Q150 download speed via wireless

I really like this form factor of Lenovo Q150 and also its HD playback. BUT Youtube playback is really choppy on this machine. I used Internet Speed Test on the web and found it was 500kbps on this machine with 802.11n, while my other older notebook on the same network has 1.1Mbps with its old 802.11g.
I sort of expect much higher speed from Q150 because my router supports 802.11n. any tip to speed it up?

thanks for the feedback.
Upload speed to me is normal, it is same as my wired desktop's upload speed (around 300kbps) My ADSL plan is just a basic one. the signal seems to be fine.
Is that possible WEP encryption affect this box more than my other notebook via wireless or TrendNet ADSL rounter doesn't like Q150. I have mix of 4 PC plus 2 Mac in the same area. download speed issue is only slow on Q150.
When I compared the speed, all computers logged on to the same internet speed test site (http://www.speedtest.net/). I will say it is fair comparison.
any suggestion?

  • New MB-Pro...stupidly slow download speed via wifi

    Hello all
Finally bit the bullet and bought myself a Macbook Pro brand new from Apple to go with all the other Apple gadgetry which I have accumulated.
I've had it for 1 day and am stumped already!
My old lappy (PC) download speed via wifi was bloody quick and downloads took no time at all. I connected my new macbook to my existing wifi network no problems, good strong signal....and that's where the issues started.
I conducted a software update and found that I needed a newer version of itunes....136mb (approx), there was me thinking this should be no prob for a brand new machine....clicked install....9 hours estimated time....then rising to 13hours!! Needless to say I couldn't believe it and cancelled it after 45 minutes of little to non existent progress.
All my other devices using wifi, iphones, pad and old PC  still download super quick via wifi so I know that it's no issue with my network. I've connected my device to my router using ethernet and it's working equally as fast as wifi with my other devices.
Any suggestions would be grately appreciated before I pull my hair out.
    Cheers

  • WRT150N Slow Win 7 Download Speed

My new Windows 7 desktop and laptop both have slow download speed over wireless, about 1mbps, hard wired they both run about 10mbps.  Upload they go 3mbps.  My 2 yr old Vista laptop can consistently get 10mbps wireless download.
I took the windows 7 laptop to Best Buy and they were able to run 7 mbps download.
I have played with all my Wireless Router settings based on searches I have performed here without success.  I'm guessing the WRT150N can't support something going on with Windows 7.
Anybody have a solution for this?
    Thanks

I had same prob.  Found this and it worked for me.  the only thing I changed were the transmission rate speeds under the advanced setting.  Mine only had 130 Mbps for the wirless N setting not 162 mbps, but it worked for me.  I hope it works for you.  I have been messing with this prob for weeks now.  Such a relief!!
Finally I have some success to write about.
After a few months of fiddling with settings and being very frustrated, I think I finally have hit upon something that appears to be working....for me, at least.
Yesterday, I talked with Linksys Support via LiveChat. They recommended that for the WRT150N router---on the Advanced Wireless Settings Tab, that I change the DTIM to 3, and the RTS Threshold and Fragementation settings to 2304.......and also change (RTS and Frag) them on the wireless card (WPC300N).
So, I did that and didn't notice any real improvement. My wireless reception--while the card says 'Excellent'--had speeds varying from 1Mbps to 216Mpbs...seemingly at random intervals.....no rhyme or reason.
Then I came across an obscure thread in some forum while Googling this topic. It recommended that you change your 'N Transmission Rate' to 162Mbps. Mine had been on AUTO, as was the regular 'Transmission Rate' for the "G" laptops on my network.
So I promptly changed both of those settings from AUTO to 54Mbps and 162Mbps respectively......and BINGO.....since I have done that, my speed from the card hasn't dropped lower than 108Mbps. It stays around 243Mbps and often will stay at 270Mbps when I am streaming something.
Don't know how long this will last, but its been the best 12 hours since I purchased the WRT150N and the WPC300N.
Hope this helps anyone else out there!
    Sincerely,
    Stan

  • Exceptionally slow download speeds, no answers from company

We upgraded to 75/75 last week. After installing the new router, my husband, who is a network engineer working from home noticed that the download speeds were exceptionally slow, averaging about 1.5 Mbps. Upload speeds were fine. We called customer service last Saturday and were told it was an outage that would be fixed "soon". That was six days ago. Still no fix. He can't work here because the speeds are too slow. While all the customer service reps have been very nice, no one can get us an answer about when, if ever, it will be fixed. Considering calling Comcast. Thoughts? Anyone else having the same issues?

There were some service issues in the northeast today but they were resolved around noonish.   Are you still having the problem? This may all be very basic, especially to your network engineer husband, but.... If you're still having the problem,  are you getting the slow download speeds via wifi or with a hardwired (Ethernet) connection to your router? What results do you get using the Verizon speedtest:  http://my.verizon.com/services/speedtest/ And what results at www.speedtest.net? That additional info may help a fellow user here on the forum suggest where the problem lies and what you might do about it.

  • 13 download speed at modem and 5-8 speed in wireless network

Can anyone tell me why our iMacs and MacBook Pros that are connected via ethernet have download speeds of about 13, yet our wireless network (new airport extreme+2 expresses) have speeds of anywhere from 5 to 8?  This makes our Apple TV work inconsistently!

  • I recently upgraded my internet service with Comcast for faster internet.  When I user ethernet connection I get 50 MB download speed....when I use the wireless connection I get 10-20 MB speed.  I have an airport extreme...3-4 years old.  Why?

I recently upgraded my internet service with Comcast for faster internet.  When I use an ethernet connection I get 50 MB download speed....when I use the wireless connection I get 10-20 MB speed.  I have an airport extreme...3-4 years old.  Why is the speed so different and are there settings I can change to increase the wireless speed?

If your supposed to be getting 20 Mb/s down via your ISP and both Mac's are not getting that on the SpeedTest, then obviously your router appears to be the cause.
Connect one Mac directly to the ISP's modem, power off/wait 30 seconds/then power on, then power on the Mac. The ISP will connect directly to the Mac, then run a SpeedTest.
Then repeat the same for the other Mac. If both Mac's have a problem then it's possibly the ISP, the modem, your lines to them or on your property, or both Mac's are messed up.
You'll have to keep searching for the cause. Call your ISP and ask then to run a test to see if your getting your 20 Mb/s to your modem, that should clear part of the problem.

  • Why is the download speed so different to the wireless router?

Apologies if this is not the correct location - newbie, so be gentle with me please!
My question relates to a wireless connection I have established with a Belkin 802.11g 54g wireless router. Airport configured incredibly easily BTW. Anyway, when I look at the router settings by entering the IP addess of the router, it tells me there is a DL data rate of about 3800, which i take to be 3.8gig. Upload is about 450. I am signed up to an "up to 8meg" ISP, so I know 3.8 is probably not that bad.
However, when I run a speed test on the DSL, it gives a performance around half that indicated on the router. Is that normal? The attenuation figure was 51 for DL and 29 for UL if that helps. I wondered if the 802.11g installed was the issue and whether 802.111n would improve this?
The same figures apply even when the router is connected to the main socket in the house rather than 3 floors up.

I'm using gigabit wired internet, with an appropriate network card and router, my firewall is completely disabled (both on my router and my pc) and I don't see why anti-virus should interfere with the download,
What is the general download speed normally received? Would you recommend using the browser download or the download manager?
I'm happy if this is just a "slow day" for adobe server or something, but my internet seems to be 100% fine as several other downloads I have tried have managed to get full speed even while the Adobe download is left running. (I obviously have had these other downloads off the majority of the time the adobe download has been running)
    Cheers for the response,

  • Download speeds, 600kb/s via speedtester, but only...

    Hi all,
Does anyone know why Im getting download speeds of around 600kb/s via speedtesters and the Binary newsgroups, but via hotfile, megaupload and rapidshare (have premium accounts for all) i'm only getting 30kb/s ???
    Im baffled completely !!
Are BT throttling these sites ??
    Thanks
    Dave

    Dave,
The BT speedtester runs completly different to file sharing sites. When you test with the BT Speedtester, your connection isn't going out to the internet. From what I gather, It goes from your Computer, through the exchange and then straight to the BT Speedtester servers (without going out to the internet). By doing this it bypasses any of the traffic going out to the internet and doesn't get affected by the national contention ratios which is important for an accurate test. This is probably why you are only getting 30kb/s on external file sharing sites. I suggest you try and use the Thinkbroadband speedtest here: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html to see if it is a problem with either the contention or something else.
    Good luck

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Netflix recommend a minimum connection speed of 0.5 Mbps, however at that speed many of the other features of the Apple TV will be painfully slow.

  • E900 wireless router- slow download speeds

So I have xfinity internet with download speeds up to 25mbps. But according to the online test I'm getting speeds up to 10. I googled online and found that I could disable the WMM but when I tried that it actually made it worse, which i couldn't find anyone else that said that happened to. I'm using a mac computer, and motorola docsis 3.0 sb6121 modem. I've been trying to do my online work and it's really annoying that my websites are freezing up and taking forever to load. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The 25mbps download speed, is it the actual speed that you are getting wired directly to the modem using the online test? If not, then you need to clear it out from your internet provider.
Is the 10 mbps the speed that you're getting wired or wirelessly connected to the router? If wireless, try connecting your computer directly to the router using an ethernet cable. If both wired and wireless connections are slow,  then you may need to upgrade your router's firmware or adjust MTU settings. Use the links below as your guide.
Determining and setting up the correct MTU size
    How to change MTU size
    Downloading the router's firmware
    Upgrading router's firmware
If the slow internet connection is evident only to wireless devices and not on the wired connection, then you need to adjust your router's wireless settings or do the following: change the wireless security to WPA2 personal, adjust wireless channel to lessen interference (usetrial and error to test which channel works for your network environment), place router in an open space, bring electronic devices away from the router, and check the wireless adapter on your computer -make sure that drivers are also up to date. Also remember that if multiple devices are connected to your router and browsing/downloading from the internet at the same time, it will surely lower the speed on every computer.

  • Improve Download Speed with Mobile Wireless Card

I just purchased a GT MAX 3.6 Express LaptopConnect Card from AT&T to allow mobile internet access. While I can connect to the internet, the speed is very slow (I'm getting 3 of 7 bars). I understand there might be a Mac "booster" I can purchase. Has anyone heard of such a thing? Or, do you know how I can improve my download speeds with a wireless card? Thanks kindly for your help on this...

I received M Q today. To my surprise, there is no way to connect M Q to PB or any computer. I called Verizon and talked with their data connect department. They confirmed that M Q cannot be used as a modem The only device that will is Treo 700p. I am returning the unit by FedEx today. Treo is xpensive. So I will downgrade from MBP to PB G4 15" and use Verizon's Broadband Wireless PCMCIA card

  • Wireless Router Dropping download speeds

I have a WRT310N router. Ever since upgrading to Snow Leopard, my wireless download speeds decrease the further I get away from the machine. While my signal indicator is full strength, my speed drops from 16mbps download to just around 1-2mbps. I've upgraded to the latest firmware, turned off any potentially conflicting wireless devices (baby monitor, Wii, etc) and nothing seems to effect. Interestingly, my upload speeds remain uneffected.
    Any ideas?

Did you reset the router after upgrading the router's firmware..If not then, reset the router and reconfigure it from the scratch.

  • Wireless Download speed much slower than it should be

Wireless Download speed on Belkin N300 is only 1.5 mps and hard wired speed is 50 mps.  Firmware is up to date, what else can I do??  What is the Wireless Router that Comcast recomends??

A Verizon Tech support employee helped solve the issue. Apparrently we still had the same plan when we started and were only getting 768 kbps download and were paying like $21 dollar for it. So we are going to upgrade and get the starter plan and pay $20 a month and get 1 MB download. I might even get the 3 MB download plan.
