Q2: text boxes blacked out in preview

Using the Special Occasions template there are text boxes in two colours, a light blue and a light grey.
When I preview a book in pdf before buying or printing the light grey text boxes are all blacked out. Of course the easy solution is to delete them and do without them which I have done but they do add a little something to the template and I would keep them if I could.
Any ideas whether what I am seeing is normal? Does it happen for others? Is there anything that can fix it?

Surely you realize that if you are doing what I suggested,
you will need to create a text caption and position it over the
previously empty fields. You may also want to ensure there is no
transition applied to them. And in addition to that, note that the
Text Entry Box may well be pausing the slide before the caption has
had a chance to display. So check your timings.

The curser shows there are links when you move over. I have uninstalled and re-installed Firefox and restarted my computer with no luck.

in case this doesn't solve the issue or does not apply to your system, start firefox into safemode '''by pressing the shift key while the application is launching''' & disable hardware acceleration in the firefox ''menu ≡ > options > advanced > general'' (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

Why can't I resize a text box in the new Preview in Yosemite?

I just upgraded to Yosemite, and I am having trouble with the new Preview. I am a student and my notes are pdfs. I have been using Preview to take notes on the pdfs for the past two years. I have always been able to insert a text box, make it a certain size (resizing it using the text box function and dragging the corners/sides to fit the space in which I want to type), and type easily. In the new Yosemite Preview, I can insert a text box, but I can only resize it horizontally (not diagonally or vertically), and when the text reaches the right edge of my box, it moves upwards instead of continuing the text downwards (the entire box shifts up so that my typing line is in the same position as where I started and the previous text is now above). Is there any way to get around this? I really don't want to purchase software just to be able to easily add text to a pdf.

I find it annoying too. Also, when you want to add text, you always need to open the title bar and then to text box always goes in the middle of the document. The only way I found to get over that issue was to ask my friend to put Preview 7.0 on a USB key (he is still on Mavericks) and then I dragged it in my application folder. It works for some PDFs but not for all of them unfortunatelly...

Web dialoge boxes blacked out after safari update

After the last update to Safari 5.1.7 (7534.57.2) web dialoge boxes are blacked out in google Sketchup Ver. 8. The only reason (we) suspect it was Safari is a recent thread at Sketucation fourm in which many users of Sketchup that use Lion 10.7.4 seem to be the only ones effected by this maybe someone here can shed some light. There seems to be a workaroud in Sketchup by changing some css file but it's not working fo all dialoge boxes.

Muse form: scripture in text box disappears in the preview? What am I doing wrong?

i did a simple form and added a view textfields. I turned off the labeling only to see the sample content in the text boxes. In Muse the letters in the text boxes are visible. In Muse preview and the preview at the browser the text is gone!? Why?

Some safari screens with text boxes are out of sync. Any suggestions?

On some web pages that I open with Safari 6.0.5 (OSx10.8.5) the letter boxes are not synced ie they dont line up. Mid 2010, 27" Imac 3.2 i3, 4 GB. Here's a screen shot of what I see on a few sites:

I solved the mystery, or my stupidity, however you want to look at it. In Safari preferences, advanced I adjsuted the min size font to something smaller (I had it set to 18) and presto the issue has been resolved. I had adjusted the size because I use a 27" Mac. Enjoy.

When trying to edit or download a pdf document, it becomes too large or on screen or normal size with many lines of text blacked out. How do I get it to do the normal presentation of the document

For years my pdf docs downloaded for viewing or editing as normally sized documents.
Now when I pull up a pdf from file, it becomes too large or becomes normal page size but many of the lines of text are blacked out. How do I correct it to go back to the previous default page size?

Are you opening those files in Acrobat or Reader? You can set the default page size in the Page Display preferences. Choose Acrobat/Reader > Preferences in Mac OS, or Edit > Preferences in Windows to access the preference settings. Do the black lines only appear when the PDF is zoomed in? Or are they there regardless of the page magnification?

Word blacks out text; possibly related to Track Changes feature

(also posted to Microsoft Answers forum, but I suspect that this is going to need Pro assistance!)
I was editing a 150+ page document in Word 2007 (on Windows 7 PC with all updates applied). I'd already been working with the document for several hours when suddenly large chunks of the document were blacked out. Paging up or down eliminated the problem
momentarily, but further edits caused it to happen over and over again. Some squiggly underlines show through the black, but little else. We realized that it was happening when I had Track Changes on and displayed the changes in balloons rather than inline;
when I moved the mouse into the area where the balloons were displayed, that's when the text was blacked out.
We figured that the document was corrupted. However, this is also happening now with another document that's much shorter and far cleaner than the first one. The problem also occurs on PCs other than mine. I opened a clean template, pasted the
unformatted text from the source document into the clean template, and the problem persists in the new doc, so I don't think it's a problem with the documents -- or at least not solely.
We tried this on a newer PC with a ramped-up video card and got the same results. It has not happened (near as we can tell) with Track Changes turned off, but I must track the changes I make so working with TC off isn't an option.
Before anyone asks, I cannot provide a copy of any of the documents because they are strictly confidential.

I have tried in my Word 2007 with Track Changes and I cannot reproduce the issue.
Since you also tried in other files and PCs, so try to open the file in safe mode to check the issue.

Why is my text not visible in text boxes?

I have a set of text boxes that I have used throughout my book as little sidebars providing tips to the reader. These text boxes lay out beautifully within iBook Author. When I preview on my iPad, the text within these boxes becomes invisible. The text is still there — if I double tap on the iPad to use the search function, the text can be selected and shows up in the search box, but is still invisible.
I am hoping this is some kind of user error on my part that can be easilly corrected. It appears to affect all two dozen tips I have inserted into the doccument. However, when I create a new text box it seems to function fine, even when following all the same steps to lay it out. You will see this in the green box in I stuck in example for the purposes of obtaining your help. (Please help! )
All the affected text boxes were cut and pasted from the original, so perhaps I set something wrong? It's odd that the preview does not match the iPad layout.

It may also be noteworthy that as the preview loads into the iPad, the text is visible, then vanishes as soon as the upload is complete. The small page previews on the ipad when 'zoomed out' to the overview also show the text, though when you go to the page it is still blank. Here is what the small page view looks like:

Did you confirm the text/box is 'to the front'...on the top of everything in that same location? Should work if so.

Yes. Font, style and color (black, white, grey, green purple) do not appear to have any effect.
Are the boxes anchored graphics...
No, they are free floating but the problem persists if I anchor them.
and is the text in a box on top of the graphic?
No, the text is integrated. The box was made by creating a text box.
Even with different answers, this problem should not occur — if the text were hidden behind something, it should show that way within the program and the small preview, no?

Using Underscore In OIDDAS Group Search Text Box

Hi Everyone,
I am using the 'Directory' tab within the Oracle Self Service Console to search for user Groups.
Most of my groups are of the form : PORT_xx_xxxx
I am trying to search for all groups beginning PORT_ but if I enter that as a search query the underscore is treated as a single character wildcard. In my case this means the search results display PORT_xx_xxxx groups as well as a load of PORTAL_xxxx groups
Is there a way to escape the underscore so that it is treated as a character and not a wildcard?
If this was SQL then there is plenty of info out there about escaping underscores but nothing in relation to normal search text boxes.

I tried PORT\_ but it still returns PORT_xx and PORTAL_xx results.
I've got a feeling the text box filters out the usual escape characters making escaping the underscore impossible. It a bit annoying because it isn't as if the underscore is an unusual character to have in a group name!

Apple Preview: While moving/editing text boxes created by others in a PDF, font color of that text changes for some reason and I don't want it to!!

I have a project where I've given about 10 people 50 PDF files each to mark up in red text, and send back to me. When they send them back, I in turn need to move or edit some of the text boxes they have created in Apple Preview. For about 8 of these 10 people, when I edit their text boxes and/or move them, Apple Preview immediately changes the text color of the red text to black, or to white. How do I get it to stop doing this? Is this a setting I need to have them change on their end? Or can I fix this on my end (preferable)?

It doesn't go anywhere in that: that isn't a feed, it's a web page. A feed is a text file in XML format.

My picture blacks out when adding text or selecting an area.

When I try to add text the picture blacks out. I can't see anything and have to type blind. When I am done, everything comes back and the words are there, but every time I click in the word box to change anything the picture will black out.
I also have a problem when doing a large selection area - as I outline the item I want to select the picture will blink in and out.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
Any error messages?
Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I can't use all the annotate actions in Preview. It's web screen shot saved as a PDF. No highlight, underline, or strikethough text but I can insert text, boxes, notes. On other forums this problem was solved by saving as a PDF which I have done. Any other solutions?

I don't think PDF is the way to do it, but if it was you'd need something like Adobe Acrobat Professional.

As far as Text changes, I thing the actual Source would maybe be the way to go, but you could always turn the PDF into a jpg or such, then use a Graphics program to poit out things...
