Q5 unlocked update to 10.2.1 OS

Hi, I have a BlackBerry q5 unlocked phone. It is running on OS 10.2.0. I have tried to update, but it says the device is running on the latest version. I am desperate for 10.2.1 update as I want to install apk androids apps. For how long will I have to wait until this update is available for unlocked phones in UK? I do not want to install any illegal OS as it makes the device unstable.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Most carriers in the UK have released the 10.2.1 upgrade.
But you don't say who your carrier is...
Whether the device is unlocked or not has no regard in upgrading, it is still carrier dependent.
You can place a SIM card in the device from a mobile provider who HAS released and pushed the upgrade, that's one way.
You can also try removing the SIM card and connecting to the PC to the BlackBerry upgrade website or checking for the upgrade via Link.
You can manually upgrade with a full autoloader First, download the Q10 OS file located in this link Then, follow the directions in this link to install it. Read all of the directions in the initial post. Upgrading OS10 devices using Autoloader

I updated my iphone 4s factory unlocked to ios 6.. everything works fine on 5.1.1 however after install ios 6 my iphone doenst allow me use my movistar sim card... Message :
"To activate the iphone can only use the SIM card of a support operator. insert the SIM card of a support operator...."
I bougth it on january, since september i`m in ecuador using local operators.
Info:
iPhone 4s white 16gb
Factory unlocked
Firmware: 3.0.04

Sorry, that message means your phone is not officially unlocked, but rather was hacked to unlock it. That's what happens to hacked iPhones when updating or restoring software: they are relocked to the carrier they were originally locked to. That's what has happened to you.
Only the carrier an iPhone is locked to can authorize the phone's official unlocking. You will have to determine what carrier this is & contact them. There is no other solution & Apple cannot help you.

• IPhone unlocked, update to 4.0?

Hi,
I have the 3gs on 3.1.3. I have the phone officially unlocked via o2 Ire & Apple, so its not jailbroken etc etc its all above board.
If I updated to 4.0, will the phone still be unlocked?

Yes. Mine is.

• HT4623 Can i update my iphone 4s was already unlocked and now i am in egypt ?

Can i update my iphone 4s to 5.1.1 was already unlocked by verizon and now i am in egypt

Verizon would not have unlocked the GSM capabilties of an iPhone if the phone wasn't already active on their network and the customer in good standing with them. So assuming that the iPhone was indeed officially unlocked by Verizon, it should work with any carrier who provides compatible GSM cell technology and appropriate service plans.
And in response to the original question, if the iPhone is officially unlocked, updating iOS should not be a problem, though pvonk's advice is worth considering.
Regards.

• Problem with unlocking and locking the Materials in MARA using idocs.

We are sending a inbound idoc from one cluster to the other to update the materials
If the material is locked ( MARA-MATFI=x ) before it needs to be unlock it ,update it and lock again .
If its not locked ,we just need to update it and lock the material .
When we are trying to implement this the materials are not getting locked at all times .
the update inbound idoc is being sent to 5 clusters at a time .
The same material is getting locked in some clusters and some it is not . (But the data is being updated in all the clusters )
Can you please suggest me a solution or give me an idea where the problem would be lying.

The client has a Keystone Server where alll the Master data is kept and there are 5 Production Servers .
When ever there are any updates to the Materials they are first updated in the Keystone server .
And with the help of a Batch Job they send inbound idocs to the 5 Production Servers.
On the Production servers if the material in MARA that needs to be updated is locked ,it needs to be unlocked updated and locked again .
Hope i have given u the clear idea of the scenario

• My 3GS unlocked ATT iphone wont active-help!

Greetings, our family has been ont he ATT Family plan for years. Ive got the new iPhone5, wife has 4S and mom has 3GS. My OLD iphone 3GS, which was unlocked via ATT was given to my little girl to play apps and music on and was working great until a week ago. I did update it to iOS6 and she had been using it with my OLD/Dead sim card-again NOT using it as a phone but like a ipod. All of a sudden, its not stating its needs to be activated but will not. Ive tried updateing over the air AND via connected to iTunes. The phone itself says that the activation server is temporarily unavailable. I have tried for over a week and I get the same message on the phone. How can I get this working??
To re-state: it WAS my old phone, its now unlocked, updated to IOS6, old/dead sim card sim card. Had been working great for access to apps & music but now need activation but wont activate.

Not sure this is the right fix for you, because for me the iPod app would stay open, but not play music when selected. I read in another thread a solution that worked for me.
Basically, you need to delete the music from the phone and re-copy from iTunes with 2 syncs. In the music tab, uncheck the boxes in the playlist, artist and genre option, removing all music from the phone, then sync. Then, re-check the desired music to copy back to the phone and sync. Music should play now from the phone.
I echo the sentiment of another poster that iOS4 really is a disaster. Problem like this should have been solved before release.

• Using unlocked 3g on cdma/hspa network

I purchased an unlocked refurbished iphone with the intention of using it on the koodo network in Canada. It is primarily a cdma network, but uses its parent company's hspa network.
I realize that cdma isn't supported on the Iphone 3g, but thought hspa would work. And it did at first, but soon after started losing service and failing calls at every turn. The sim card isn't at fault, as I've since installed it in an Inq phone which works fine.
Here's my question: is there any way of knowing if the phone or the network is at fault? I would hate to switch to a gsm provider only to find the problem remains. The long distance rates on koodo are the lowest anywhere...

mmcva wrote:

I didn't realize that there were "refurbished" iPhones available from Apple. That's beside the point however.

As for the rest of your question, Koodo says on their website that they do not support MicroSIM cards or the iPhone 4 & iPad. Not sure if that is because they don't offer microSIMs or if there is some sort of incompatibility. Koodo's network is just Telus who do offer the iPhone (4 & 3GS), using 3G only and on the compatibility website for koodo they do say that the iPhone 3g is supported.
http://koodomobile.com/en/ab/phonecompatibility.shtml
You could always borrow a microSIM card from a somebody with an iPhone 4 or other phone with a MicroSIM and see if that works in your unlocked iPhone. If the iPhone was purchased from Apple a refurbished unit should carry the same warranty as a new unit, so you could always book a genius appointment to have it troubleshooted.
You could also try updating to iOS 4.2 to see if that helps. If the iPhone was not officially unlocked updating will restore it to factory settings and the unofficial unlock will be lost potentially forever.

• IPhone unlocked by carrier, will Apple replace with an unlocked phone in the event of a warranty replacement?

Hi there.
I use an iPhone with the Canadian provider, Fido. I purchased the phone from Fido and signed up for a 3 year contract in order to recieve the phone at the reduced price. I understand that Fido performs a carrier lock on the phone when you sign up in this way so that the phone can only be used on the Fido network.
At the moment I am in the process of cancelling my contract with Fido and switching over to another provider in Canada. After doing some research, I found out that Fido offers a service where they will unlock your phone from their network when you finish your contract, for a fee. Since I am cancelling my contract and paying the early cancellation penalty, my contract will be satisfied and I will be eligible for the unlock service. My plan is to have my iPhone unlocked by Fido so that I can use the phone with my new provider.
My question is this: If I have my phone legitimately unlocked by my provider, will Apple send me an unlocked phone in the event that their is a hardware failure covered under warranty, and I need a replacement iPhone? All my previous replacement iPhones have been, to my knowledge, locked by Apple back onto my provider before they are sent to me. But, it would be awfully annoying if a replacement phone came to me locked onto an old network that I no longer use.
Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Are you sure about this? I thought so too, but when I received my replacement iPhone 6, it was locked again.
I bought a carrier locked iPhone. Then it was replaced with another carrier iPhone. This second phone (first replacement) was then unlocked. Later the unlocked iPhone was replaced with a third phone (second replacement). To my disappointment the second iPhone replacement is locked.
The Authorized Service center said that Apple made a mistake and should unlock it remotely ASAP. Apple Support however, says that iPhones are replaced with specifications of the originally initially purchased iPhone. If the original was unlocked, they would replace it with unlocked, but if it was locked then replaced with a locked and then unlocked by carrier. The carrier should be contacted again to unlock future replacements. I know it sounds ridiculous and illogical.
If an iPhone has been unlocked (obviously by a carrier), why would you replace it with a locked iPhone and ask the customer to contact his carrier and request another unlock for the replacement iPhone? So inefficient and could be a problem if the carrier allows only one unlock per year per line like most do, or if you are no longer a customer of that carrier.
Interestingly I found the following on Apple's "Hardware Warranty". Retrieved from: https://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/ios-warranty-document-us.html):
"Following warranty service your Apple Product or a replacement device will be returned to you as your Apple Product was configured when originally purchased, subject to applicable updates.”
What I understand from this is that replacements will be configured exactly as the originally purchased including any updates made to it. I believe unlock is considered an update.
Apple Support argues that the second device was unlocked (updated), but the original (initial / first) device was not unlocked. Therefore, I should deal with my old carrier to unlock this one.
How insanely ridiculous is that???

• Is it factory unlocked????

i-Phone 3GS (3.1.3)
I believe I do own a factory unlocked i-phone 3gs(gift), but I don't know how to verify it. Phone was purchased in UAE (Dubai) and I am using it in India. Is there any way to find out whether it is originally factory unlocked or not? Is it safe to update my phone to the new firmware update ver4.2? Will it cause any trouble?
Thanks for any help!!

All iPhones purchased from official sources in the UAE are sold as officially unlocked. So, if you obtained your phone from an officially source your phone should be officially unlocked & updating software or restoring your phone will have no affect on the unlock.

• My iphone 3gs wont activate after updating to ios 5

ive updated my iphone 3gs to ios 5 but now itunes wont activate my phone and comes up with a messege saying my phone has no sim inserted when it has one (original orange UK sim), what can i do to sort this out

I had the same problem with mine and found out because i bought it second hand and had it unlocked updating it causes it to go back to being locked again. If you've bought it in the same situation then maybe that's the problem, i got it unlocked really cheap too and now its back to normal and all my messges, apps and pics are back.
hope this helps

• Thread safe RMI

Thread safe RMI.
My RMI server provides clients with the ability to CRUD data but in order to manage concurrency I did the following.
1stly I would like to understand correctly the issues of RMI server objects....
It is my understanding that RMI server can cater for eg 100 clients by spawning 100 threads at random for each client. This process is not managed (thread wise) and the result is that 20 clients wishing to update record A can do so at will? Various steps can be taken from what I gather...
a) Synchronise (expensive)
b) implement a lock manager.
The step I have taken is include a lock manager and I have ensured that all locking an unlocking occur in a singleton server object that manages all sensitive data CRUD operations. Now I use a lock manager but I would like to know what happens if for eg the 1st RMI client dies and has its thread blocking
all other threads from locking the same record? Does the thread die with the client or is there a counter measure for this? The obvious answer that comes to mind is Object.wait() inside the lock manager?
The reason I ask was that because all of the locking occurs in a single method call in the Network
Server's JVM, so is there a need to worry about the RMI connection dying during the middle the locking operation.

It is my understanding that RMI server can cater for eg 100 clients by spawning 100 threads at random for each client.No. It spawns a new thread for every new connection. At the client end, RMI makes a new connection for every call unless it can find an idle connection to the same host that is less than 15 seconds old. So if the client is doing concurrent calls there will be concurrent threads at the server for that client.
This process is not managed (thread wise)'Managed' meaning what?
the result is that 20 clients wishing to update record A can do so at will? The result is that an RMI server is not thread safe unless you make it so.
a) Synchronise (expensive)Compared to a database update the cost of synchronization is trivial.
b) implement a lock manager. The database should already have one of those, and so does java.util.concurrent. Don't write your own. Personally I would just syncrhonize around the database calls.
what happens if for eg the 1st RMI client dies and has its thread(a) the client doesn't have a thread, see above. The call has a thread.
(b) at the server, the call will execute, regardless of the state of the client, until it is time to write the result back to the client, at which point the write will encounter an IOException of some description and the thread will exit.
blocking all other threads from locking the same record? That can't happen unless you foul up your concurrency management.
Does the thread die with the clientIt dies with the call.
is there a need to worry about the RMI connection dying during the middle the locking operation. The server JVM won't notice until it is time to write the call result back, see above.

• Invalid SIM - none of the usual solutions work

We got AT&T to unlock an iphone 4 that we had used in the States and then taken abroad. Spoke with them several times to confirm the phone is unlocked.
Then downloaded latest OS, did a backup and restore over iTunes, reset it to factory settings. We have now tried 3 different SIM cards to activate the phone with, but always get the "SIM not valid" message ("only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate phone..."etc). These SIM cards all work just fine in our other iphones 4 and 4s. So - its not a SIM card issue, and the phone is on the latest OS. Trouble is, AT&T say its no longer their problem, and we live in a country where there are no Apple stores (Lebanon).
Any ideas anyone? We really need to use this phone :(. Thanks.

Yeah, but if officially unlocked, updating will not lock it back again.
Anyway as said before, nothing can be done here in this forum. You have to call AT&T.

• Help me, I blocked iphone!

Hi, good afternoon. I am Andres from Ecuador.
I have a question, I bought an iphone 4 by ebay with ios 4.3 and It was working normally. Just 2 weeks ago I decided to update the software into ios 5.0.1but my iphone doesnt work any more. It is blocked and working just as an ipod.
Please, I need to know if it has solution?? What I should I do??
I am going to travel to Miami at the end of this month, if I carry my iphone to an Apple store, can somebody help me there??
thanks a lot.
Regards,
Andres

Was the phone locked? If there was some sort of modification to the phone or unauthorized unlock, updating the phone would re-lock it.
Check Settings > General > About > Carrier, and see what carrier is displayed. You may need a new SIM from that carrier.

• IPhone 3G stuck on apple screen

My iPhone 3G has been stuck on the screen that has the lit up apple for 2 days now. Now my computer or iTunes will not recognize the phone and I'm unable to use it.
This happened 2 days after I updated to the latest OS. I didn't reboot my phone (pressing both keys at the same time) until 2 days later when the phone started to freeze while updating the apps in the app store. When the phone went to the apple screen it never fully loaded and hasnt sincce... Any ideas?

Recovery mode
1. Disable all firewall and antivirus/spyware apps running on your PC
2. Start iTunes. Be sure you have the latest version 9.1.1 (11)
3. Connect phone to a USB port on the computer, not an external hub or keyboard port.
4. Press both the home and sleep/wake buttons until the Apple logo reappears, then continue pressing the home button alone until iTunes sees the phone in recovery mode.
5. Follow the prompts to restore.
Note that if your iPhone was jailbroken or hacked in any way (i.e. illegally unlocked), updating and this method may not work and may leave the phone permanently bricked.
