Q6301A Wireless G Print Server Won't Install

Have a 802.11g network on Linksys WRT54G running WPA2-PSK/AES with 3 Windows XP Pro SP2 PCs connected just fine. Have a HP L7680 AIO that was connected via ethernet cable.  Worked just fine.  Now, owners have moved to a new house and need the L7680 to connect via WiFi.  Problem is, the 2101nw will not successfully install.  It gets configured by the PC and then starts to "Verify" the connection and fails with "Wireless Connection Failed" (or very close facsimile of that message).  The installation is being conducted ten (10) feet from the router with open line-of-sight.  There is no firewall software save the one in Windows.  That firewall has a bunch of Exceptions for HP modules installed.  I'm giving the 2101nw an entirely new static IP address (DHCP doesn't work either) because I haven't a clue what else to do.  (The instructions -- what few there are -- SUCK!)  I've spent literally hours on this.  I called HP for support and after being transferred several times, I got hung up on.  So much for support.
Does anyone have a clue how to resolve this issue?
Thanks,
Wye

Today, I tried to install after disabling both the Windows Firewall and the AntiVirus software.
Same results.
My customer watched this and is convinced it's the wrong product for him and he refuses it.
I have sent an email to customer support requesting an RMA for credit.
I can't keep promoting products that either don't work or are not supported.
I give up on this thing.
I strongly recommend that nobody ever buy one.

  • HP 2101nw Wireless G Print Server & Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6)

    Hi everyone,
Before I start, I must point out that I have a Win 7 laptop connected to the HP Photosmart C5280 with the HP 2101nw Wireless G Print Server perfectly.
Appears that Snow Leopard is not compatible with ths device. The Hp Connection Manager 'sees' the printer, but I am not able to connect to it.
The drivers on the CD and online mention that it will work woth 10.4 and 10.5, but no mention of 10.6 (I am on 10.6.5). However, installing it from the .dmg file on the drivers page, I get The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/HPVUSBFamily.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update.
Just wondering if anyone from HP can confirm this is a driver being worked on, or is this device 'obsolete'?
    Regards,
    Stephen

Same problem here. New imac with Snow Leopard (10.6.6). Previously working with 10.5 on MacBook Pro.
As for 'Shogan' above - The Hp Connection Manager 'sees' the printer, but I am not able to connect to it.
I reinstalled software/drivers from the .dmg file on the HP support page, I get The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/HPVUSBFamily.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used.
I can select the printer from the Connection manager list but the printer remains 'offline' and the 'Status: Idle'
Come on customer support.....give these customers some....well, support.

  • What's the difference between HP Wireless G Print Server and HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit?

    Hello!!
What’s the difference between HP Wireless G Print Server and HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit?
I found two things as follows.
    1. MAC support
    2. USB dongle
    Is there anything else?

    Now I’m clear!!
But there are descriptions for each on your home page over view tab. Due to this forum restriction; I cannot put the URL here.
They say for each as follows.
HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit --- Retain full all-in-one wireless functionality: print, fax from your PC, scan, and access photo memory cards access and PC status
HP Wireless G Print Server --- Get the same functionality with your all-in-one: printing, scanning, photo memory card access, PC faxing, and printer statusSo I got confusion, that’s why I did not get the difference for them.
And I found wrong description on your HP support document page. I recommend that you correct it, because it put consumer into confusion and break to buy this product.
The title is “HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit - Setting up the HP Printer with the HP Wireless Printing Upgrade Kit in Windows .”
The wrong description is “NOTE:  You must turn on the computer with the computer adapter in order to print to the wireless product” at last line of “Step two: Configure other computers to use the printer. “
    You can erase this line!!

  • HT200189 Why the VPN update for OS X server won't install?

    Hello
Why the VPN update for OS X server won't install. It says "VPN update for OS X server can't be installed on the disk. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update" Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Is OS X Server setup on your MBP as an actual Server running the Services or are you just using it so you can remotely manage another Mac running OS X Server services?

Note: the update will only install if you have already launched Server app and used it to set up services.

  • HP Wireless G Print Server not detected during installation.

I follow the instructions, insert install disk, click install, agree to all the terms, then the software searches for wireless devices, then it prompts me to connect the print server to the computer by connecting the install usb cable provided and then connect the power. I do this and software does not recognize the print server, so I can't click next. What do I need to do?

  • HP C4480 Windows 7 wireless finds printer but won't print to it

I have a 3 PC network with a Cisco wireless router. My C4480 is connected to a wired desktop running Windows 7 64 bit with updated HP drivers for the printer. I have shared the printer, both directly and using the Homegroup. I can connect to the printer with a wired XP desktop.
However, I cannot connect to it with my Windows 7 32 bit laptop. The laptop finds it when I set up the homegroup, and I can see it in the device display. However, nothing prints. I also followed a suggestion on the Microsoft site, and set up a local port for the printer, mapping it directly to the desktop PC and printer. Again, the printer is found, and displays (and yes, I've turned off the homegroup printer sharing on both the desktop and the laptop).
    But it still doesn't print.
    Any suggestions are appreciated!

I'm a bit confused about why you are using a print server with a printer that has built-in ethernet?
(Built-in ethernet means it has a built-in print server. The major problem you are having is that the HP/OS X driver for this printer uses Bonjour (Bonjour Only) to communicate with the built-in print server. Since you've added an extra layer with the print server, I doubt that the HP driver will work.)
Just figured it out - you need the printer in a location that isn't convenient for ethernet, right.
Some choices - There is an open source driver, foo2hp, plus ESP ghostscript plus Foomatic-rip:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/showprinter.cgi?recnum=HP-Color_LaserJet2600n
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/foomatic/
Or, try some kind of wireless to ethernet bridge (so you can use the built-in print server and driver).
    Or, get a different printer.

  • Wireless router/Print Server w/ Ethernet Xbox 360

    Hey yall,
So I'm on day 2 of my new life as a "Mac guy". Threw down on a G5 and am pretty stoked. Still stock - I'm going to get another GB of RAM and AppleCare soon - and I'm also looking to get everything running wirelessly, including my HP PSC 1510 printer. I currently have Qwest DSL (1.5MB down), which I have configured wirelessly but don't have the router to print wirelessly. I have a 1-bdrm cabin w/ a loft, so I'd like to have the router/printer upstairs and just this pimp machine downstairs for all to see. I also have a Xbox 360 upstairs that I'd like to be able to connect via Ethernet to the router. The Airport Extreme BS would work - but it's 2 bills. Would this US Robotics Router w/ Print Server work?
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?TabPage=overview&sku=A0474 840&c=us&l=en&cs=19
I'd want to be able to return my rented router to Qwest - would this be one-stop shopping for me? Run internet/print service to the G5 downstairs and hardwire in my 360 upstairs? If so, that would be sweet. Also, the router says any USB printer would work - is that true? The HP PSC 1510 ain't exactly high-end - but I've also not opened it yet and would return it to get something that would work. Thanks a lot for any help, this fruity computer is pretty sweet!!

    iMac G5 2.1 GHz w/ iSight

    Hello,
Congratulations on your new Mac! My setup is similar to your own. I have my computer (iMac G5) hooked up wirelessly and I provide internet to my PS2 from the LAN hookup on the router.
I'm sorry that I can't give you an answer to the usefulness of the US Robotics router but, I can give you my experience with an Airport Express Base Station. I was fortunate enough to get one as a gift for Christmas and have been up and running ever since. ^^
First and foremost the Airport Express Base Station or AEX is Apple made and quite frankly works the best with your computer. You can plug your printer into it and also share your internet with your XBox 360 through the Ethernet port.
Though not as expensive as the Airport Extreme Base Station it is still about twice as expensive as the US Robotics one you labeled in your post. That is my setup in a nutshell except I don't have the XBox 360. ;p (jealous)
I just wanted to provide you a tested and tried solution that works. Good luck and wish you the best with your new setup. I know you are going to enjoy it and I agree about showing off your iMac, they are sweet looking.
    Best Regards,
    Jason

  • Windows 7 recognizes my HP Printer but won't install the driver for it

I just bought a brand new computer with Windows 7 64bit installed on it.
After hooking it up, I connected my HP psc 2175 All In One Printer to it.
Windows 7 recognized that I had an HP psc 2100 series printer and said that it would go online to look for the driver to install.
After 10 minutes of searching, it tells me that I need "troubleshooting" which means "go look for it yourself."
I went to the HP website and the only help I found was a page telling me how to get my Windows 7 to recognize my printer.
My Windows 7 already recognizes it.
What I need is an explanation about to make Windows 7 download the proper Printer Driver to allow my printer to work.
    Any help?
Does this driver not exist for Windows 7 and HP PSC 2175 All In One Printer?

So the HP page says there is no driver at all for my Printer with Windows 7 ( Lucky Me) and that I need to configure my Windows 7 to use the automatic  Windows Update to find a driver to install.
As I mentioned in my original post, it already did this.
It recognized my printer and then starting searching for a driver with no luck.
Anyway, next on the HP page it tells me to connect my printer to my computer with a USB cable and then Windows 7 will look for the most appropriate driver to make my printer work.
So I connect the USB cable and it dings once and that's it.
    No message.
    No downloading.
    No status bar.
    Nothing.
It just dinged to recognize that I plugged in the USB cable.
According to the HP page, I should get a window telling me that My Automatic Windows Update is complete.
    Mine apparently didn't even start.
So now what should I do?
How can I make it download the generic printer driver without just expecting it to do so simply because a USB cable was inserted?

  • Hp deskjet 3520 print driver won't install

I bought an HP Deskjet 3520 printer today which was advertised as compatible with OSX 10.7, however when I go to add the printer I get the error "The software for this printer is currently unavailable. Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software."
I have the latest driver from HP, I just downloaded it today.
I deleted my old HP printer from Print & Scan in the System Preferences and uinstalled the old HP printer using the HP uninstall software.
When adding the printer it said there was an update available from Apple, which it downloaded but then gave the same software unavailable error.
I can scan with the printer but not print.
I also have a wireless HP Laser printer on my home network which is a couple of years old.

Have you tried selecting the software yourself rather than letting it add it for you? This usually helps.
    1) Go to Select Printer Software in the drop down menu.
    2) Type in the name and model of your printer: HP Deskjet 3520.

  • ZCM 11.2 reporting server won't install

    Hello,
A couple months ago I upgraded to ZCM 11.2 (from 11.0) on SLES 11 SP1. Now I am attempting to upgrade the reporting server. I initially ran the install (setup.sh) and it told me ZRS was alrady installed. So I ran zrsuninstall.sh and that took quite a while (several hours) but said it completed successfully. Then I reran the 11.1 reporting server install and it says begins to install but goes very quickly and then tells me it needs to restarte services. after that it says it has failed to install. If I check /opt/novell/zenworks/share/boe the folder is empty except for a reportinguninstall.sh file. so it looks like files are not being copied correctly.
I wonder if the uninstall didn't come off clean and thats causing problems? is there a way to cleanup this mess and start from scratch? This is my primary and only ZCM server.
    Thanks,
    Aaron

  • Print drivers won't install

I just put 10.4.3 on my computer and immediately upgraded to 10.4.4. I then tried to print a document only to discover that there were no longer any print drivers installed on my computer. I did find the installers for all the makes of printers but when I tried to install the driver software, I got error messages telling me that it was unable to extract the files.
My printer is an HP deskjet 970Cse, but the same thing happpens when I try to install driver software for every make of printer. I went to the HP website, and the driver for 10.4 is not available for download.
So now no printer will work on my computer, and as my four-year-old daughter would say, that's not good.

On the DVD, there's an installer package Optional Installs. Did you use that?

  • Wireless Print Server Installation Issue - HP 2101nw

I have been using the 2101nw for the past year with my HP printer and Qwest DSL (Actiontec Wireless modem / router) without any issues. Well I made the switch over to Comcast so I needed to use a new wireless router (the Linksys WRT54G). For some reason I wasn't able to get the 2101nw to work, it just wouldn't connect to my computer. So I decided to uninstall the software and reinstall it. Well that isn't working very well. Everything loads up fine while the print server is connected to my computer. The instructions then tell me to discount the cable from my computer and plug in the printer, nothing happens at all after that. No connection and the software therefore won't complete the installation. I've spent two days trying to figure out what to do, since the guide really doesn't offer any help.  Any suggestions or recommendations?

  • HP Photosmart 1315 won't print through print server

I had this working for the longest time though I forgot which settings I used I am pretty sure I got it right, IP printer, using gimp photosmart 1100 and what not and it worked. recently i had to change the ip address range so i deleted the printer and reinstalled it (since i couldnt find where i change the ip its connected to).
anyways, it won't work. it says it is busy or if it eventually does print, prints garbage.
i even tried the HP drivers, though it won't find the printer when i specify the IP address.
i have a linksys wireless g router a linksys wireless g print server though i connect via cable and the mac is connected through cable. this works fine on my winbox and i cant get it to work again on the mac. any suggestions would be most helpful!

HP's drivers are written to use USB only - won't help.
Queue name is part of the address for the LPD and IPP protocols. If you don't remember using it, maybe there is another protocol that works on that print server and I just didn't see it in my quick review of the manual. For example, the HP Jetdirect protocol doesn't need a queue name (called raw port 9100/socket printing in most manuals).
