QFE Card on Solaris 10 and Ultra 5

Hi,
I have installed a Sun qfe card on my Sun Ultra 5 running Solaris 10.
ifconfig -a shows the ports configured, running, up and with the correct IP and netmask. It's using local MAC address so each card has it's own MAC.
I cant ping or ping from the qfe interfaces, the onboard hme is fine.
I've disabled ipf, checked the ndd settings match the hme interface.
The strange thing is if I snoop the mac address of the qfe port I can see network traffic but if I snoop the IP address there is nothing.
It looks like the card is functioning properly (I've tried a know good one) but something between the MAC and IP is getting screwed?
Any ideas?

Here's a link to the OBP 3.x Reference manual at Docs.Sun.Com.
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/806-1377-10?q=openboot+command+reference
Keep it for future reference about the systemboard firmware.
Go into OBP and change the setting for "local-mac-address?" in firmware.
Change it from false to true.
See if that lets you run your system with all five interface ports as unique devices.
You can search these forums as well as do a generic Google search
on keyword local-mac-address, for an understanding of how it may help.
It's NOT discussed in that OBP manual I linked above.

  • Creator 3D UPA card problem on an Ultra 10

    Guys,
    When I first bought the Ultra 10 (440MHz,512MB and no Creator3D), I
    connected to the VGA and minimal installed Solaris 8.
    OBP version = 3.25
    Then I bought a creator 3D card + 13W3 adaptor, installed the card in
    the UPA slot and got myself into the following troubles, when I
    connected the PC monitor via 13W3 adaptor to the UPA card:
    #1. I get this message all the time: Can't find driver for console
    framebuffer
    #2. If I boot off the hard disk (solaris 8) I get to the stage when it
    is trying to launch X desktop, then hangs.
    #3. After searching the web, I realized that perhaps the necessay
    drivers were not installed in Solaris 8. So I tried to install Solaris
    10 6/06. This time I get the error:
    Fast Data Access MMU Miss. I also learnt that this is a very difficult
    error to investigate.
    Please can anyone help me to sort this issue? My goal is to install
    Solaris 10 to learn.
    I have NO idea of any of the OBP commands. Any help will be
    appreciated.
    TIA
    AS
    P.S: I would rather not update the OBP, unless I have to. I already spoilt a Linksys router.

    Hello,
    If you are refering to my posts on google groups (comp.unix.solaris etc)
    I was referring to the thread you started on August 7th:
    Ultra 10 and PCI USB cards
    Maxtor 160GB IDE HDD and SUN ULTRA 10
    Creator 3D card substitutes for SUN Ultra 10
    a direct solution would have been useful to me
    Two choices:
    1. Read the manuals, browse the net, then ask
    2. Get paid support
    If you want free support, choice 2 is out of question.
    When you install the Creator 3D card it becomes the primary video (=output is automatically directed to this card).
    This is the expected output
    ok devalias
    screen /SUNW,ffb@1e,0
    if this is your output (=Creator not the primary video)
    ok devalias
    screen /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/SUNW,m64B@2
    Either the Creator 3D is bad or not properly seated (unlikely because Solaris 8 reported the lack of the console drivers).
    Use the following commands
    ok show-displays
    a) /SUNW,ffb@1e,0
    b) /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/SUNW,m64B@2
    q) NO SELECTION
    Enter Selection, q to quit: a
    /SUNW,ffb@1e,0 has been selected.
    Type ^Y ( Control-Y ) to insert it in the command line.
    e.g. ok nvalias mydev ^Y
    for creating devalias mydev for
    /SUNW,ffb@1e,0
    ok nvalias myscreen /SUNW,ffb@1e,0
    ok setenv output-device myscreen

  • Problem detecting: add-on Maxtor IDE card on Solaris 10.

    Hi everyone,
    I am trying to install Solaris 10 -01/06- in a P3-700Mhz system.
    The motherboard is kind of old, it doesn't recognize my 20GB primary HD.
    So, I put a Maxtor IDE disk E-IDE controller card. It uses Promise Technology chip, full model name - Ultra 100 Tx2, chip model-PDC20268.
    The card is good, and it detects 20GB driver in bios.
    However, Solaris 10 doesn't seem to detect it. It keeps telling me "no disk found". so took me back to concole/dos screen.
    I read on some there post, saying there is jumper for the Maxtor RAID disk controller. I have to adjust it order to make detection to work. However, it is not a RAID card, just a normal IDE expansion card.
    I would like to ask for your help to see if Solaris 10 support thise type of add-on card.
    Thanks

    Hello Jason,
    there is no need to "low-level" format the drive. The manufacturer did the low-level format (and management of bad spots) for you.
    Have you tried to run analyze (either non-destructive or read-write) ?
    Probabably you just want to create a filesystem on the new drive (this is what Microsoft format does in the last step), use the command <b>newfs</b> instead.

  • Support for AVM ISDN PCMCIA Card in Solaris 10 ?

    Hi all,
    I would like to install Solaris 10 on my Toshiba Tecra S1 notebook. Today I use an ISDN-Card (AVM FritzCard, PCMCIA) for dial-up connections under Windows XP. Are there any drivers for ISDN and/or PCMCIA-Cards in Solaris10? Does anyone have any experiences with this issue?
    Every hint would be appreciated.
    Thanks a lot.
    Kindly Regard,
    Holger

    Hello.
    There only very poor support for ISDN cards in Solaris. As far as I know only the on-board ISDN card of one of the SparcStation computers is supported (this card is available as S-Bus card for other SparcStation computers).
    I think there is no support for any ISDN card that can be attached to an x86 computer.
    I wrote a driver for USB based ISDN modems that are based on the Winbond 6694 chip myself due to this lack of ISDN support. I tested it under Solaris 9/Sparc.

  • Install network card on solaris 8 x86 10/1

    Hi
    how can I install my netwoek card on solaris 8 x86
    Thank a lot

    In the same way you install any other card. Plug the card in
    the slot., and install the appropriate solaris driver for that
    network card. May be you want to detail the problem, if this
    is not you are looking for.

  • Network cards for Solaris 8 x86

    Which network cards are supported by Solaris 8 x86 ?
    Thank you !
    dorin.

    Are you considering any particular cards ?
    I have had good luck with DEC21040 (10baseT) and DEC21140 (100baseT) cards
    in Solaris 7 through Solaris 10 on x86.
    The same can be said for 3Com 3C905C-TX cards.
    Solaris 8x86 will recognize many chipsets natively,
    and a number of third party developers have created working driver packages.
    Most of their driver packages are free, but a few are not free.
    Solaris 9 works with a few more, and Solaris 10 works with yet more adapters.
    The Solaris 8x86 HCL list has the native cards.
    This other Sun web page can direct you toward 3rd party sites.

  • Best PCI-X / PCI video card for Solaris 10?

    I don't mean "best" in the "latest, greatest, fastest" sense, I mean best to denote visual properties and rendering, support, basically. My current machine (Compaq SR5250NX) has a PCI bus ATI Radeon 9250 (256MB RAM) that XSun detects and uses as an ATI 9200 Pro AGP. There are all sorts of performance/visual issues...when I minimize a window, it takes a second or two (literally) to minimize and you can watch it "draw down." Or sometimes when I minimize a window, it minimizes from the top down, and the desktop is redrawn vertically, very slowly. (So you can watch the window disappear top down.) This is *extremely frustrating and makes the entire desktop experience unpleasant.  This is unfortunate because I really like JDS.
    So, which card has the best Solaris 10 (XSun) support? It can be either PCI or PCI-X. All I do is write text documents, program, and other general tasks. No graphics work or anything of that sort. I don't care if it's old and I have to get it used...it just has to have awesome support and enough power to handle JDS and normal apps (Sun Studio, SO 8, FF3, etc). I'm on a bit of a budget, so if it's possible to get this card for around $100..that'd be great.
    *Yes, I've read the HCL, and I know which cards are on there as supported, but it doesn't say anything about which card has the best support.
    Thanks,

    Although I prefer ATI for personal use on other OSes, my last two Solaris workstations have had Nvidia Quadro video cards in them, and they've both worked very well. My previous workstation (A Sun w2100z that died a couple months ago) had a Quadro NVS 280, my new workstation has a Quadro Fx 1700, which performs extremely well even at 1920 x 1280. The Fx 1700 isn't what you would
    call cheap, though.
    You might want to try pick up a used Quadro NVS (at least something in the 2xx series), or one of the lower models in the Quadro Fx series.

    PS: I'm going to be asking nearly an indentical question to this one in a minute, except about audio cards rather than video. :-|

  • How to install lan card in solaris 11

    Hi,
    can some one please tell me how to install lan card in solaris nevada snv_55b X86, 5.11
    When i do ifconfig -a it only displays loop back driver only
    lo0: flags=2001000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4,VIRTUAL> mtu 8232 index 1
    inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000
    The other driver was missing can please some one tell me how to install that?

    Well, the lan card has to be one that is supported by Solaris and you need to have the proper driver installed before you'll be able to get it running. A good starting point would be to look at the Solaris Hardware Compatability List (HCL) at:
    http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/hcl/index.html
    There is a blue box which says "Check out the X86 device list" which may be a good place to start. You won't be able to pick out Solaris version you're running for the OS type menu but if you can find the device anywhere you should at least be able to determine which driver it uses so you can check that against your system. If you don't have the driver package installed, you'll have to install it before you can see the device. If course, if the device isn't supported you're stuck. At least the HCL can help you select a new interface card which should work.

  • Turbo (MAT) and Ultra Turbo (MAT)

    What exactly are they doing at the board level to increase performance?  Since its a memory bandwidth optimization, what are they doing to increase the bandwidth with these features?

    SPD uses info programmed into the ram sticks to decide what settings to use for particular speeds. You can use a utility like Sisoft Sandra to see what is programmed.
    Normal, Fast, Turbo and Ultra-Turbo are the performance mode settings. Fast and higher enable the PAT mode (see  P4 Neo Unofficial Guide ). However, at FSB settings higher than 218, PAT becomes disabled. At settings higher than approximately 225, the 'lost' performance is regained. The settings themselves allow the bios to set progressively more agressive memory settings.
    When you set the RAM speed to 400 instead of Auto, and set the CPU FSB at 225 or higher, a lot of ram that won't run in Ultra-Turbo at other settings is able to run.
    As for the ram speed rating, it isn't the speed the ram runs at. It is the maximum speed it is supposed to be able to run at. When you set the ram speed in the bios, you are setting the speed it runs at when the cpu FSB is at 200. Increase the cpu FSB by 10% and the ram runs 10% faster.
    Any time you increase the FSB setting, make sure you go to the AGP/PCI setting. It will be greyed out, but you can hit the enter key anyways. Then select the closest setting to 66/33 you can find. This will keep the AGP card stable and prevent data corruption problems with SATA drives.

  • Forcing 100MBs on ethernet card on Solaris 8

    How can you force 100 MBs on an ethernet card on Solaris 8? How can you check whether your changes were made? Thank you in advance.

    Add the following line to /kernel/drv/iprb.conf. If it does not exists create one.
    ForceSpeedDuplex=4,4,4;
    # This will force speed and duplex for a typical NIC instance. It
    # is an array so the first value sets instance #0, the second
    # instance #1 etc...
    # 1 will set it to 10 Mbps half duplex.
    # 2 will set it to 10 Mbps full duplex.
    # 3 will set it to 100 Mbps half duplex.
    # 4 will set it to 100 Mbps full duplex.
    # 5 will be the default value for Autonegotiation. If not provided, 5 will be used.

  • One card for OSX and one for windows...

    OK, I've been following the ongoing debate regarding the choice of graphics cards for the Mac Pro. I think saying that it's limited would be putting it mildly.
    Now, I really wish for a few more horsepower for when I'm playing Warcraft in Bootcamp but I really don't want to fork out £270 for the 1900XT just for apple to come along and update the range in x months and as I only really need the extra oomph in windows I wouldnt really see any benefit in OSX from the new card. Some people have touched on the idea of perhaps using a seperate card for when using windows. This would be great as I can get a better card for use in windows for a fraction of the price of a new apple card. What are the pro's and con's of doing this? Would the non-apple card confuse OSX and vica-versa would windows see both cards? Would I need to specify in windows which card I want to use? Would I have to remove a card each time I booted in the 'other' OS?
    Educate me a little please :O)

    I left WoW with over 200 days played and moved from a G4 to a Mac Pro with a 1900 during that time. I also ended up having my x1900 card replaced by Apple. According to many sources there is now a Rev2 card being shipped. I can't confirm it but I can confirm that fewer people seem to be having problems, and if you use SMC FanControl while playing WoW it will keep things cool and you'll be assured of no over heating issues. Personally I would not be concerned if I used SMC Fan Control, and in fact after getting the new card and beginning to use SMC Fan Control I had no further issues of any kind. The issue was with overheating. WoW runs just fine in OSX using the x1900 card. FPS over 100 is not uncommon and even in the Suppression room in BWL (still the most intense graphic area I can recall...nothing like it in Kara or anywhere else I've seen in the new content) I'd get 40-80fps. It's no SLI super high end, but very, very playable with a Mac Pro.

  • Why is my payment method declined. I ask the bank and they told that's no any problems with my card also i used my card on booking and amazon and everywhere and it's ok

    Last night I attempted to purchase an app from the App Store on my iPhone 5s The previous day I had purchased an app with no issues, and this time was told that my payment method was invalid. When I clicked 'Continue' to fix my information, everything was correct so I re-inputted my credit card security code and tapped done. No, fail, declined.
    I called my bank as I am currently vacationing in Libya  and if my debit card (the card my iTunes account uses) starts getting declined I will have issues. No, no problems, they had a note in my account that I was traveling, and there are no holds or flags on my spending. She also noted that the iTunes store had requested a verification of $0.99 but had not charged the card for the amount.

    OOnce the $ .99 charge goes through to verify your payment method, you should be able to make your purchase.
    wait 24-48 hours and try again.

    Hi,
    The following program is giving results diferently
    when I am executing using g++ compiler in Solaris
    and Linux.
    Why it is so.
    here is the code:
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <string.h>
    #include <malloc.h>
    #include <stdlib.h>
    int main( void )
    size_t size;
    char *buf;
    if ( ( buf = (char *)malloc(10 *sizeof(char))) == NULL)
    exit (1);
    size = sizeof( buf );The size you get here is the size of buf, which is the size of a pointer, not the size of what buf points to. sizeof(*buf) would give you size of a char, the type (not the object) that buf points to.
    There is no portable way to find out the number of bytes allocated on the heap if you are give only a pointer to the memory. You have to remember the size some other way..
    strcpy(buf, "HelloWorld");A literal string consists of the characters in the string plus a terminating null, all of which are copied by strcpy. You allocated 10 chars for buf, but are writing 11 chars into it. At this point, the program has undefined behavior. Literally anything at all could happen, because you can't predict the effect of writing outside the bounds of allocated memory.
    printf("\n Address is : %u String is : %s size :
    e : %d ", buf, buf,size);
    if (( buf = (char *) realloc(buf, sizeof(20))) == NULL)The "sizeof" operator in this case is returning the size of the type of a literal 20, which is an int. If you want to allocate 20 bytes, you write 20, not sizeof(20).
    exit ( 1);
    *(buf+10) = 'A'; *(buf+11) = 'B'; *(buf+12) == '\0';SInce you can't count on buf having more than 4 bytes at this time, you are writing into unallocated memory, with undefined results.
    printf("\n Address is : %u String is : %s\n", buf, buf);
    free( buf);
    exit( 0 );
    Instead of asking why you get different results on different platforms, you should be asking why the program doesn't crash on all platforms. :-)
    You can avoid these problems with keeping track of allocating memory by using the C++ standard library instead of trying to manage low-level details yourself as in C code.
    The standard string class, for example, extends itself as needed, and ensures that heap memory is freed when the string object is deleted or goes out of scope. You don't need pointers, malloc, free, or sizeof to use C++ strings.

    If it's an account that you've just created then unless the instructions on this page are followed when creating an account : Create an iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store account without a credit card or other payment method
    then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store. You should be able to remove the card after entering its details.
    If you are getting a prompt to review the account then you could see if this post by mountaingoatgirl lets you do so without needing to enter credit card details : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24303054#24303054
