QMaster and Compressor unavailable after update

Question

Just updated to FCS 5.1, which installs Compressor 2.1 and QMaster 2.01.
Since update, I cannot start QMaster services here on the Quad (still fine elsewhere on the network). When I try to start services in Sys Prefs, I get the following error message:
Unable to start services because qmasterd is not running. Please consult your user's manual
Needless to say, there are a total of zero mentions of qmasterd in the docs.
qmasterd is indeed not running according to Activity Monitor
Also, "This Computer" option not available in Compressor
Reinstalled the entire suite twice, repaired privleges and cleared caches each time.
The first time I reinstalled, qmasterd did start up, but everything in Sys Prefs panel was greyed out, including Start Services button. The "This Computer" option was available, but the cluster (controlled by a G5 2.0DP) was not
After the second re-install, I was back to the same problem as before -- qmasterd would not startup.
If I manually start up qmasterd (i.e., double clicking the script file from usr/sbin) I can get it rumbling

If you have Compressor 2.1, you need Qmaster 2.1 as
well. Compressor and Qmaster should always have the
same version number.
Sorry, typo there. It is 2.1
Typically, the qmasterd error is because there was a
problem starting up. You can open a terminal, and
type "sudo SystemStarter start Qmaster\ services",
then look in console.log and see what the error was
if it didnt start up.
I will try this after I get my current job out. Once I manually start qmasterd, everything works as before, which is to say, sub-optimally, but it works
