Qmaster Blues

Anyone managed to set this up correctly yet ????
QMaster has seemed to go pear shape in the recent update, I know this a Qmaster Forum Question but FCS seems to 'drop' it from the preferences pane now and then, the cure is to load up FCstudio and reinstall compressor and Qmaster - update with ProApps 2008-1 and make sure compressor is at 3.0.3 and all is good for another few hours ....
using 8 Mac Pros with all the same setup

Just wanted to add my thoughts on this:
I've had Qmaster go pear shaped on my several times since I started using FCS. These failures usually occur when I change part of the cluster config while the cluster is in use (such as adding or removing processors from the cluster). I learnt this lesson the hard way - although Qmaster has also failed on my for no apparent reason, usually after a reboot.
By far the easiest and quickest way to fix Qmaster hiccups is the uninstall/reinstall option. It really doesn't take that long.
This Apple KB article details how to manually uninstall Compressor and Qmaster. Follow the instructions, but *don't bother removing Motion* - there's no need.
Once you're done, use the FCServer DVD to reinstall. You could use the FCS(tudio) DVD as the KB article suggests, but I find the FCServer install does the trick in a fraction of the time.
None of your FCServer settings or software updates are overwitten during the reinstall. Also, your Compressor presets are preserved, although you will need to reinstall any plugins (such as Episode).
You'll be back up and running within 5 minutes. Compare that to the days I've spent messing with terminal commands and editing plists ... I prefer this option every time!
Regards,
Oli.

  • Share Blu-ray Qmaster Error

Hi, I'm trying to export my first Blu-Ray today and I'm getting an error.
It says, " Share Failure: HOST (............local) Final Cut Pro generated an error or unexpectedly quit.
It has also said, "Share Failure. An Internal error occurred: Apple Qmaster File Agent not found." I've seen other similar post on using this feature but none about exporting and burning to BluRay DVD.

If you have a Quad or Octo core MacPro then here's how to set up a cluster:
    http://www.fcsoutlet.com/home/StudioOutlet/Entries/2008/9/1_Virtual_Clusters_-Compressor.html
However the weird thing is I did my Blu-ray on a new MacBook Pro and the cluster was already set up - I didn't think you could cluster with just two cores.
It worked so I didn't look too closely into it.
Make sure you send rather than share.

  • Qmaster crashes on Blu-ray burn job action?

    Hi there,
I tried mimicking the Ripple-training by Brian Gary (thanks Brian for making and sharing this ), in which a Blu-ray disc is made using the new template option in 3.5. However, after the successful transcoding to 264 of a ProRes file., the batch monitor displays that it has another 2 to 3 minutes to go, but shows this overnight... With the disc shown in the Dock ('Create Disc'). Wondering what it was doing I checked the Activitymonitor showing that Compressor is still active but Qmaster seems to have crashed. So I removed Qmaster and Compressor using FCP remover, to re-install the two applications. You guessed it, to no avail. Anyone with ideas to solve this one?
Here's the Ripple Training link I meant.

Been there!!! Have erased my BD-RE about 12 times to figure this out. Bottom line... Bit rate was the limiting factor!! 15 Mbps average was ideal. My 2 hour dance rectital now no longer does the "hanging" thing either. I used compressor and used the preset "Blu-ray" settings then changed the bit rate to 15 Mbps ave (17.x max). Works fine now.
Default 30 Mbps lots of hangs. Worked down to 25,20,18, then finally 15. Looks great and plays fine !!
Don't use the share command !! Glitchy.
In compressor set the "job action" to Make a Blu-ray and it will make a .img file which you can burn from Disk Utility or Toast as the image file to either a Blu-ray or DVD depending on the size. Good luck.

  • Disc will no longer burn - QMaster error

Yesterday (and on many other days) I burned a Blu-ray Disc out of FCP7 (using Share).
Today when I follow the exact same procedure as I always do, I get the "Share Failure. An Internal error occurred: Apple Qmaster File Agent not found." error message.
I don't want to use Compressor -- I want to use Share out of FCP7, using the same menus I'm used to. What's wrong?

Open Compressor 3.5 after you have exported a self contained, current settings QT out of FCP.
Under File, choose "New Batch from Template" and choose Create Blu ray.
Drag the self contained movie file into the image well where the down arrow is represented.
In the Inspector, choose Job Action, and select the menu you want.
Enter a title, encode and burn.

  • FCP- compressor to blu-ray- I end up with a ton of extra chapters!

I have a 2 hour (1:55) 1080p29.97 pro-res timeline (and media) that I have exported to self contained movie with Chapter Markers selected. I imported to Compressor and the correct amount of chapter markers showed up. I then used the presets (although lowered bit-rate to 26 average and set for multi-pass) for blu-ray and used the end action to create a blu-ray. All looks great except I ended up with about 10 extra chapters about 2/3 the way in the movie, they are unnamed on the menu screen. Plus, I have one that has a time at about 3-hours (which is of course far outside of the movie length).
This all after a 48-hour encode in compressor. I checked my sequece in Final Cut and it only has the chapter markers I intended, and they all are named. Any ideas on where to look for what might be causing this? I wish I could just edit the .img file to remove the unwanted chapters, but am not finding a solution for that either.
I am using the latest Leopard (not Snow Leopard) and the latest version of FCS.

OK. Up until C4.0, Qmaster was a stand-alone application and accessible through the Preference Pane in Systems Preferences. In C4.0, and until 4.0.7, it became an embedded app – found within the Compressor.app file. That's why you don't ordinarily encounter the Qmaster file…you have to go digging to find it. (And it's altogether different in 4.1)

  • FCStudio 7 - Burning to Blu Ray problems

I edit with FCS 7 and trying to burn to Blu Ray, however i keep getting a message 'internal file error, Qmaster file not found'?? Should be simple as 'file' then 'share' but not happening!! Its recognising the blu ray burner but wont let me 'share'. Any one know what the settings have to be????

I remember one thing , if you use Share with a QuickCluster you will receive a message like Video file from QMaster cant be found.
This is a bug from day one with Final Cut Studio 3, so if you need fast compression for Blu-Ray and dont have Matrox Compress HD you must export a Self Contain QuickTime file and bring-it in Compressor with a Blu-Ray Template and Job Action to burn a Blu-Ray.
Be carefull about Matrox Compress HD since for now this card remove the Chapters Markers with the actual drivers but it is a real time option best used with Toast 10 to bring back Chapters Markers even if it is at specific fix intervals.

  • Increasing Processor allocation / speed for encoding / burning Blu Rays

I have several large HDV QT movie files that I have exported from FCP 6.06 and I am burning to BD-R discs using Toast 10.2 and my Lacie external Blu Ray burner. Since Toast uses H.264 it takes quite a while for my PowerBook G4 running Leopard 10.5.8 to encode, then burn the discs. Is there someway to increase the amount of processing power and speed by devoting more than one parallel processor to help with the task? thru Q-Master or something? I don't need to be doing ANYTHING else with my Mac during this time consuming process!

Of course a single movie would be broken up to compress in smaller parts. It's called segmented processing. It's what Qmaster does when you set up a distributed processing network. But you need more than one computer to make it worth while, and they have to be networked on, minimum, a gigabit network, but preferably on a faster Fibre network.
The problem that comes with job segmenting is if you use a variable bit rate, because the bit rate information isn't shared between/amongst the nodes. If you use a CBR, you're all set, but like I said, it won't matter unless you have more than one computer, and you're limited by the slowest computer in the chain, as well as the network.
If you use less than a gigabit connection, the time it takes to transfer the information to and from the cluster controller, and then reconstitute the final video is more than the time it would take to just do it on a single computer.

  • CS4 for burning Blu-rays?

I'm thinking about upgrading from CS3 to CS4 and was wondering if the Encore CS4 was more reliable for burning blu-rays than CS3. I have been receiving all sorts of errors that have been driving me nuts.
I'm using a Matrox Axio LE with windows XP.

  • Best way to burn Blu-ray if transcoding is already done? Toast 10?

I've seen the answer to this question in the past, but just spent some time searching the forums and couldn't find the answer.
I currently choose the route of FCP > Share to burn Blu-rays.  No problem, everything's good (except limited menu options).  However, once I close out of the program after the very long transcoding time, what is the best way to make another copy of the blu-ray without transcoding again, and without the first blu-ray I made (for example if the client already has the disc and wants another copy)?
I believe Toast 10 is one answer, but before I go and update my current Toast to 10 I wanted to see if this was the preferred method, or, if there is a way to do it in Compressor.
    Thank you!
    Eric

In the ~Library, Application Support>Apple Qmaster you'll find Create Disk. Open it.  If your project is on the recently opened list, you can burn additional copies that way.
Or consider saving your file as a disk image; choose Hard Drive as Output Device. Pretty sure Toast will take an img file. Or use Disk Utilities.
    Good luck.

  • Unable to reburn blu ray after successful initial burn

I was able to burn several blu ray discs sucessfully. When I went back several weeks later, no luck. I select my prroject, click on share, choose blu ray, click burn and then I get a window which says processing. The progress bar is almost complete, but it is greyed out. When I select the Share Monitor button, the info say processing, finishing or successful depending on which triangle is selected. Even after 24 hours, nothing changes.

I've been burning BD successfully using FCS3.
However I have not attempted to "Burn" directly from compressor. What I do is encode as a disc image to my drive and then "Burn" with Disc Utility or Toast.
I got into this workflow years ago for authoring DVD because it just made more sense to me.
The other variable between our situations is the 422HQ. I use standard PR. Not sure if that's a factor or not but HQ is a very heavy codec and IMHO is overkill for the footage from a 7D. I don't know if it has anything to do with your encode problem but I would experiment with a regular PR file and see what you get.
You mentioned that you're not using a virtual cluster in Qmaster. So the Qmaster stitching can't be the problem.
You mentioned that you saw the encoded files on your drive. Just under 6 gig should be just under 30 minutes of content. If that's the case then you may have a good encode.
Try dragging them into Toast 10.
If you drag the h264 into Toast the audio will automatically be included.
In the Toast Prefs, make sure re-encode assets is set to automatic or Never.
Chapter markers will not be included but you should be able to author a disc.
    Hope that helps.

  • Windows Blue Screen Error Message Appears As Soon As IPod Connected

Everytime I connect my IPod to my computer, I get the Windows Blue Screen error message. Thought it was the cable, so plugged cable in by itself. No problem. Uninstalled IPod and ITunes software and then plugged in IPod, still got the Blue Screen. The Blue Screen says something about "recent plugged in device problem". It is not the cable, it must be the IPod. Did not have this problem when I bought it. Tried it on labtop and get the same error message. I can't do updater or anything that requires me to plug the IPod into a computer because the Blue Screen appears immediately. When I unplug, the Blue Screen remains and locks up the computer so I have to restart each time. I have tried everything I can think of. Please help.

Hi Mike thank you for replying,
I am not able to start the computer in safe mode, safe mode with networking, last good known configuration etc, Each time it quickly blue screens and restarts about two secs into the process.
I was unable to try a clean OS install from the disk as it gave the blue screen error shown in the original post. The same thing happened when I tried to use the repair option on the XP home disc. So i can't get into the computer at all to start diagnosing the fault, the only clue I have is the error message, and after searching the internet I haven't found much enlightenment from that yet.
If you can help me out or suggest where to search it would be much appreciated.
    Thx

  • Mini DVI to Video: blue screen after disconnect

    Hi,
can't find a solution: after disconnecting the mini dvi to video-adapter I always get a blue screen and I need to restart my brandnew 20" iMac.
I use it to connect my (old) television via s-video. It is clear that I bought the right Mini-DVI-Adapter.
Can anyone help or has the same problem?
    iMac 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks for the help. I'd figured out that shutting it off would keep it from happening and was probably a "best practice," but since 90% of my television watching is from my eyeTV, I'd be turning it on and off a lot.
The only problem with leaving the setup plugged in, is that as soon as the mini DVI cable is plugged in, the resolution on the iMac resets itself to super-large fit for television mode and becomes virtually unusable as a computer, thus when I want to use my computer, the cable has to be unplugged....unless of course you know something I don't
    Thanks,
    Shaun

  • My iPhone would just randomly give me a blue screen and then restart--did that a bunch of times between Tuesday and last night. As of last night, it WILL NOT come back on. iTunes says it's in recovery mode....what does all of this mean???

Tuesday night I was texting a friend and when I went to open her message, my screen went blue and restarted. I just wrote it off as weird and went on about my business. Later that night, I tried to turn on my phone and it would not turn on. I plugged it up, held down the power button, and pressed the home button all numerous times. I looked online and it said to do a "hard reset" by holding down the power and home button at the same time--my phone then came on. Throughout Wednesday, it would give me a blue screen and restart--nothing major just really annoying. I took it to the local Verizon store where I bought the phone from and he said that it was some type of hardware defect and I was still under my year warranty so I could get a new one for free--the free phone won't be here until tomorrow, Saturday. I took it home and it didn't give me any trouble for a couple of hours. The next day it was cooperating and then I left town for a little while and it acted up (blue screen and then restarting) a few times. When I got home, it acted up again and so I restarted the phone and it was working fine. A few minutes later, I tried to check my messages and the phone was off again. No matter what I do, my phone will not come back to life. It had at least 45% battery last time I looked at it. I decided to plug the phone up to my computer and see what it did--my computer recognizes that there is a phone hooked to it and it says that it's in "recovery mode". It also said that if I'm having issues with my phone, that I need to reset the phone via iTunes. I guess the questions that arise are
    1. Why is my phone doing this?
    2. If I reset my phone, will it go back to working again? I ask that because I don't want Verizon to charge me $300 when they send me the replacement phone and I won't need it (assuming that the phone decides to work once it's been reset).
    3. What type of hardware defect is this that is causing this issue, not only with my iPhone 5S but others as well?
    4. Shouldn't people be notifying Apple and letting them know that they need to fix this issue?
    5. Should I report this issue to Apple even though I didn't buy the phone directly from them, but through Verizon?
Any help that anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated! This whole situation has me stressed out and seriously confused.

  • Blu-ray DVD no longer recognized by HP MediaSmart or Windows Media Player

I have the HP Pavilion Elite HPE 250-f desktop computer. This computer includes a CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive. I bought this computer in 2010, and all these years I have successfully played CDs and DVDs on the computer. Until now, I have not attempted to play a Blu-ray DVD.
A few days ago, I rented the "Divergent" Blu-ray DVD from my public library. The "Divergent" regular DVD was included in the package.
I put the Blu-ray into the CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive. The HP MediaSmart software recognized the Blu-ray, but the software got into an endless "update" loop and did not play the Blu-ray. Microsoft's Windows Media Player also recognized the Blu-ray, but did not play the Blu-ray.
One solution I heard about was to plug an HDMI patch cord into the back of my computer box, with the other end of the HDMI patch cord not plugged into anything. Supposedly, the HP MediaSmart software would play a Blu-ray if the software sensed an HDMI cord. Unfortunately, that did not work.
I then downloaded the Media Player Codec Pack, http://download.cnet.com/Media-Player-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-10749065.html    Supposedly, this Codec Pack would allow the Windows Media Player to play the Blu-ray. The Codec Pack included the Classic Media Player.
I tried to play the Blu-ray on the current Windows Media Player and the Classic version, with the new codecs installed. But nothing worked. I then used System Restore to get rid of the  Media Player Codec Pack. I found out that, in addition to the codecs, I was supposed to use the Slysoft AnyDVD HD software. However, I did not make any more attempts to use the codecs, and I did not download the Slysoft software.
Now, here's where things get weird. Now, the HP MediaSmart software and the current Windows Media Player do not even *recognize* the Blu-ray DVD. They play the regular "Divergent" DVD very well. But they do not even *see* the Blu-ray DVD.
I uninstalled the BDDVDRW CH20L driver, version 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255). I restarted the computer, and a new driver was installed. The new driver's version is 6.1.7601.17514. But the Blu-ray DVD is *still* not being recognized.
Now, I'm hearing that a Blu-ray lens cleaner may be required.
So, what's going on here? Did the codecs in the Codec Pack damage the Blu-ray lens? Please advise.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Hi, BH. Thanks for your response.
sp60287.exe seems to be for Windows 8. I have Windows 7.
But even if I got a PowerDVD version for Windows 7, I still have the issue of the Blu-ray disc not even being detected. The Blu-ray disc is in the drive, but the software (HP MediaSmart, Windows Media Player) says that there is no disc in the drive. This "no detection" issue began after I installed the codecs in the Codec Pack and tried to make Windows Media Player work with the codecs. Is there an issue with the Blu-ray lens? Or is there an issue with the Blu-ray disc itself?
I notice that the regular "Divergent" DVD has no fingerprints on it, even after I touch it. But the Blu-ray DVD has lots of fingerprints. Does the Blu-ray have some kind of weird surface? Is there some problem with the Blu-ray's surface that is causing the Blu-ray to not even be detected?
    Thanks.

  • Blue Screen, kernel_data_inpage_error, disk drives missing on reboot

I just bought a new laptop, ASUS ROG G750JW, and installed a Mushkin Chronos 240GB SSD. I clean installed Windows 8.1 Pro on the SSD, and kept the original 750GB HDD, as well as a 500GB HDD, as secondary drives. I have been having rather random blue screens.
I had to disable auto-restart to see the error message: kernel_data_inpage_error.
The fun part is that when I soft restart after the blue screen, my hard drives are missing from the BIOS. I have to completely power down and then restart it for the HDDs to be detected. Since all 3 drives go missing, I can be rather confident that the problem
is not caused by any one of the drives (i.e. my SSD is not defective).
The problem originally occurred when I was installing Office 365 - the laptop would blue screen every time I tried starting the installation. However, each attempt would proceed a little further and eventually Office installed, so I can't use that as a reliable
test. Other occurrences have been, as far as I can tell, completely random. I was noticing that the BSOD occurred often enough during Windows Update installs, but I could not find any significant correlation when I compared my event log to my update
log. I was able to install the most recent Windows 8.1 Update released this Tuesday with no problems.
I have run diagnostics on all of my drives, which come back completely green. I have run chkdsk and sfc /scannow, none of which reported any errors. I have also run Driver Verifier according to the instructions
in this article which did catch several "0x000000c4" bug checks, which I was able to narrow down to the miniport driver.
My last action was to disable checking this driver in Driver Verifier, and I have not since experienced any problems. I have just finished running a 2+ hour long stability test using AIDA64 portable trial version, which caused no problems.
Since my drives go missing when this happens (whether as a cause or effect, I do not know), I have no memory dumps or event logs to share. I have since configured Windows to save memory dumps to my laptop, but with no reliable way to cause the blue screen,
I've been unable to capture a dump yet.
Soooo who wants to help me fix this? I've been offered warranty RMAs by both ASUS and Mushkin, but until I can reliably reproduce the error and confirm the cause, I'm not sending anything back (cause I don't know
    what to send!).

If you don't have dmps lets take a look at your event viewer logs
Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:
    Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
    Expand Custom Views
    Click Administrative Events
    Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file to Onedrive or a file sharing service and put a link to it in your next post
If you have updated to win 8.1 and you get the error message "the system cannot find the file specified" it is a known problem.  The
work around is to edit the registry.  If you are not comfortable doing this DONT.  If you are, backup the key before you do
    Press Win+"R" and input regedit
    Navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WINEVT\Channels. Delete "Microsoft-Windows-DxpTaskRingtone/Analytic"
