Qmasterd process doesn't run as root
I've just installed Compressor 4.0.2 on three of my laptops. On my main working computer Compressor refuses to work as the master. On my two other computers it works just fine with identical settings. I found out that on these two Macs the process qmasterd runs as root permanently (also when Compressor is not running) whereas on the "problem" Mac it runs with my user previleges. The process disappears when I quit Compressor on this machine. Activity Monitor tells me that qmasterd was started by launchd (on the two other Macs) and by Compressor itself (on the "problem" Mac).
I reinstalled Compressor and ran "Compressor Repair" with no success. I reinstalled MacOS 10.7.3, disabled the firewall, repaired permissions, used ethernet and WIFI connections, nothing. I read so many forum posts which don't give any solution for my problem.
When I try to form a cluster on the "problem" Mac an error comes up: "SwampDaemon::NFSPublisher: authorization has expired". Sometimes there is no error message at all.
Remember: With identical settings Compressor works as expected on two other Macs.
Ever get any resolution on this? I am having the same issue.

I have Macromedia Fireworks 3.0 and the install process doesn´t run! After the installation the message is: fireworks cannot run. the resource files are missing or damaged. I use Windows 8.1. Antworten auf Deutsch wären super!
As far as I know there is no download resource for older Macromedia programs and it is highly unlikely that one as old as version 3 of Fireworks will be able to work on a Windows 8.1 system. I was unable to get a Studio 8 version installation on a Vista system, and likely even an XP system (cannot remember that far back).

Attribute change run process doesn't run in the chain
Hello everyone,
I have implemented a process chain with multiple parallel processes (12, like the batch processes in the application server) and I have put for each stream a loading of master data followed by the attribute change run process. When I run my chain then I find that one o two Attribute change run process doesn't run (the InfoObject chosen seem to be random!). The chain remain in yellow color. Can you help me anyone about this question?
Regards,
FrancescoCouple of thing you should keep in mind while loading master data.
if two loads are targeted to the same infoobject they will collide and as a result the later load will fail.
it is a good practice to use only one Attribute change run in the end before you load master data. but if there are dependecies you can use several in series
Also when you set up Attribute change run make sure that Attribute change run will pickup only the particualr infoobject not all the objects in the Attribute change run list. -
Page rendering process doesn't run after validation error
I have a page rendering process (On Load - After Regions) that needs to be run for my page to be rendered properly; however, it doesn't run when the page is rendered after a validation error. In debug mode, I see the following line:
"0.05: ......do not perform process because inline validation condition found."
Is this a bug? Validations are meant to prevent execution of On Submit processes, but is there a reason to also not run rendering processes?
I need to dynamically construct some javascript and insert it somewhere after a certain item on the page. Is there a workaround?
Thanks.
RodneyRodney,
Let me see if I understand your question:
1. A page is rendered
2. The page is submitted
3. A validation fires and fails
4. The page is re-rendered displaying the validation error message
5. Your on-load after regions process did not fire
You want to run a process in all cases; in the standard page load case (1) and in the re-load case (4).
You can do this by creating a region of type PL/SQL. You can give the region a null template so that it will not display any values. The region can be the last one displayed on the page; so that it will be run last.
You also asked if it is a bug that the on-load after regions process did not fire; as the debug message indicates this is proper. Here is an example that illustrates why you typically don't want to perform processes when rendering a page after it was posted causing a validation to fire.
Lets take the following example:
1. create a form on the emp table; assume a salary column called "SAL"
2. create a validation that says the salary must be numeric
3. edit a row of the EMP table
4. change the employee job from clerk to manager; and enter a "X" in the salary item
5. submit the page
6. the validation will fire; page processing will stop; and the page will be re-displayed
7. the process which fetches the rows will not fire; and the page will be re-displayed; the job item will display the change from "clerk" to "manager" and salary will still contain the invalid "X" value. If the process had fired it would have replaced the values in the form.
My recommendation is that you use regions for any processing that is UI releated. I hope this helps.

Firefox3-systemcairo doesn't run.
Firefox3 with system cairo doesn't run on my system (well, as my user). This is the offending package.
Here's the path it's installed to, and the error I'm getting. I can't find any info on the error on google nor this forum.

I don't know if this is relevant or enough, but hopefully the first error will be enough.
Update: I'm running zsh, and my root account is running bash, I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
I read through the strace's again and found a permission error. I changed it on the file and I get an error on a ".", I can't get it to output what line it fails on though.

CF8 DirectoryWatcher Gateway Doesn't Run When I Overwrite a File
I've set up a Coldfusion Directory Event Gateway on my site (Win2K3 server, CF8 Ent). The DW monitors an FTP directory where my users upload a batch of 5 PDF files each week. The files are named file1.pdf, file2.pdf and so on. When my DW gateway sees an addition or a file change, it copies the file to a new location, reads the PDF's meta data and uses that to rename the file and then add an entry to a database table for that file (the table entry gets used to populate a PDF archive list on a different page). In general this all works with a few exceptions.
ISSUE 1: If I add a new file, the gateway sees it and calls my onAdd function (which actually just calls my onChange function). If I rename a file in that directory, the onChange event fires and my code runs. However, if I upload a new file1.pdf file which overwrites the old file1.pdf, nothing happens. The new file is truly different and has a new modification date. I read through the Java class and mod date is how the gateway determines a change. Now, so far am not actually FTPing a new file in, but rather just coping it in from my local machine to the server directory via a mapping.
I saw a solution for a similar issue which talked about setting up the onDelete event b/c the FTP will actually delete then add the file. Does this sound like a solution?
ISSUE 2: I had a lot of CFM files that needed to be put into the archive, so I converted those to PDFs. I then put all of them in my watch directory so my script would process them. To my surprise, the script would only load 11 files at a time. So after some tests to confirm the issue and the correct number of files, I then loaded my batch, 11 files at a time. Any ideas why this would happen?
My Specs again:
Windows 2003 Server
Coldfusion 8 Enterprise
In my config file:
checking my directory every minute (60000 milliseconds)
only checking for .pdf extension
Set an onAdd and onChange function call, but no onDelete
my onAdd function simply calls my onChange function, passing
in the CFEvent argument that it receivedWe had the same problem here, and I agree that it is disappointing that the DW doesn't consider that a new file. As far as a workaround, what I did was change the way our process dealt with incoming files entirely. I used to handle the files as they came in, relying on Dave Ferguson's tricks for getting around files that were still being written to or otherwise locked (thanks, Dave!). Now, instead of that, I only do one thing when a file is received: I rename it with a datestamp and write this to our db as the received filename so that the additional processes can be run on it. That way, when that same filename is used by our client again, which is every time, the DW picks it up again as a new file. I don't know if that helps or not, because it still means you lose the functionality that used to be inside the DW instead of a scheduled task, but at least you know when an actual new file is received, regardless of its name. You may even be able to put your functions inside the onChange or onDelete if you keep the reference to the original filename, then have those do your work after the file is renamed and/or moved. In our case, the DW also kept hanging every couple of days so we were missing very important files. I ended up just restarting the gateway through code as the last piece of the scheduled task that runs every 30 mins to process the files.

R3 job completion trigger a process chain to run on BW
Hello,
I was wondering how I can trigger a process chain to run on BW 3.5 after a SM37 job completes on R3?
I have been searching the forums and the web, but I haven't found what I am looking for.
Thanks,
NickHello Pramod,
I would need a more detailed suggestion to implement, but thanks for starting the discussion.
I thought it would be as easy as this
1. Create an event in BW
2. Have a process chain that starts when that event is raised.
Having implemented and successfully tested steps 1 and 2, the rest should be simple (I was able to raise the event on BW locally and the chain did run as expected)
3. On R3, create a small ABAP program that calls the BP_EVENT_RAISED Function Module on R3.
4. Pass that Function Module the following parameters
A. My BW system name, and
B. The event name that I created on my BW system
5. Add that ABAP program to the end of the job on R3.
It doesn't work though! The event i created on BW, doesn't seem to exist from R3's perspective. I was hoping it was as easy as that. Hopefully I am missing something simple, but so far R3 does not want to cause the event on BW to be raised.
Thanks,
Nick

Batch Processing doesn't update files in Premiere Pro CS5.5
Hi,
I'm not sure if this question should be under 'Audition' or 'Premiere Pro', but I'm selecting a large range of audio clips (from a wedding ceremony) and sending to Audition from Premiere (selecting 'Edit in Adobe Audition')
When the clips appear in the files section of Audition I select 'Batch Process', drop them in and make the batch process start. When everything is finished and the files are automatically saved, I head over to Premiere to see if the wav's have updated - but nothing. Everything is exactly the same.
Any help would be great?
I'm not adding any prefix's etc to the filename, and I'm selecting 'overwrite existing files' and 'same location as original files'.
Cheers,
ThomasHi Durin,
Sorry for the delay, had a couple of deadlines to meet and ended up doing the hundred-or-so clips one-by-one in audition to get it done.
That's the issue exactly, I go back to Premiere after doing the batch process (and they all auto-save) but Premiere doesn't update the waveform or in fact the audio doesn't show the changes I've just made. The strange thing is that if I do them one by one, then Premiere recognizes the changes and I can get on with it.
The steps I take are: 1) Drop the clip in the timeline, do a bunch of editing (occasionally nesting and multi-cam editing a sequence). 2) Right click and Edit in Audition 3) Open Batch Process in Audition 4) Drag drop all the files just sent to Audition from Premiere, into the Batch Process section 5) Run batch process 6) Go back to Premiere and see if it's updated in the timeline. I wait, and wait, but nothing. Everytime.
I'm thinking it's something simple I've clicked, but have no idea what. Either that or it's some sort of bug issue.
I will be upgrading to CS6 creative cloud soon, hopefully that'll fix it.
If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Otherwise, thanks for trying. -
I am running Win. 8.1 and had no issues with FF 24. Since upgrading to FF 25, firefox will appear closed when i close the window but the process doesn't shutdown. I have to go into Task Manager to end the process. I can then launch it again.
SOLUTION (possible).
Hi all. I had this problem as well. I currently run FF26. A week or so ago, out of nowhere FF wouldn't exit - the window would close but firefox.exe process would keep running in the background using about 50% of CPU. Not sure if it's connected, but just prior to that I clicked on a link on Facebook that looked like spam website, nothing happened, site loaded (sort of, all I saw was a msg - Please Wait...) but nothing happened, I have Eset antivirus and it monitors network traffic and files for viruses, so maybe it prevented my PC getting infected...
So, I had this problem for a few days, was searching the net for solutions, but nothing seem to help. Then, just out of luck I did something that WORKED!
Here's what I did. I noticed that svchost.exe was using a lot of CPU alongside with FF. I ran ProcessExplorer to see what might be connected to this process, the list was long and I didn't have any idea where to start, so what I did was - Right click on svchost process, choose Debug and dismiss the warning. In a few seconds svchost process quit and after that FF started closing properly.
I had to re-enable all my plugins and themes I disabled prior, I also lost my history and preferences which I trashed in the process of searching for solution. But heck, it worked, hopefully for good. Now if someone could point out the real cause of this and fix it for everyone - that would be great. Cheers! -
Getting root's crontab to run with root's privs
I am trying to schedule a cron job to run some serveradmin scripts. If I edit /etc/crontab, the script runs as scheduled, but while it appears to run as user root, it doesn't appear to run with root's privileges.
Here is /etc/crontab and a simplified script:
headquarters:~ admin$ cat /etc/crontab
# The periodic and atrun jobs have moved to launchd jobs
# See /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
# mi hr md mo wd who command
0-59/15 * * * * root /Users/admin/log_afs >> /Users/admin/afs.log
headquarters:~ admin$ cat log_afs
echo ----
echo 'Timestamp: ' `date`
CONNS=`serveradmin command afp:command = getConnectedUsers | grep ipAddress | wc -l`
echo 'Number of Connections: ' $CONNS
Once I install this crontab, I get an afs.log created in the correct location with a hh:15 timestamp, owned by root. To me, this should mean two things
a) The job is running as scheduled
b) The job ran as root
Yet I'm getting output identical to that I would get if I'd run the script as admin (without the sudo prefix). Below is an interactive session:
headquarters:~ admin$ ./log_afs
Timestamp: Wed Nov 14 19:33:05 MST 2007
serveradmin must be run as root
Number of Connections: 0
headquarters:~ admin$ sudo ./log_afs
Timestamp: Wed Nov 14 19:33:29 MST 2007
Number of Connections: 10
headquarters:~ admin$
And below is the output from the cron job:
headquarters:~ admin$ ls -al afs.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 root staff 287 Nov 14 19:30 afs.log
headquarters:~ admin$ cat afs.log
Timestamp: Wed Nov 14 19:30:00 MST 2007
Number of Connections: 0
The script I want to run does a lot more than just count connections; I've simplified it here for discussion. My main question now is "How do I schedule jobs that require root access?" ... not "How do I report X about afs?"I don't understand ... if the script is running as root (as evidenced by root owning the output file, and /etc/crontab sets root as the scripts owner) ... then why doesn't root have privs? Essentially, this is my original question.
Besides, my original solution was sudo crontab -u root -e with the same results. Editing /etc/crontab and setting the user to root was an alternate approach.
headquarters:~ admin$ sudo crontab -u root -l
Password:
# mi hr md mo wd command
0-59/15 * * * * /Users/admin/log_afs >> /Users/admin/afs.log
headquarters:~ admin$ cat afs.log
Timestamp: Thu Nov 15 08:45:00 MST 2007
Number of Connections: 0
headquarters:~ admin$ sudo ./log_afs
Timestamp: Thu Nov 15 08:48:40 MST 2007
Number of Connections: 10 -

[gert@flyktig ~]$The point of this thread was that you don't need to enter the root password at all. Not the first time, not ever.
As far as I understand, it is supposed to work like this: When you first use shaman too install anything, it asks for the root password You can tick a "Do not ask me again"-box, so you don't have to enter the password again. If you tick the box and enter the password, shaman add the lines
[auth]
askforpwd=false
to the users shaman.conf-file (~./config/shaman/shaman.conf) The next time shaman is run, it checks the config file, and if the askforpwd value is set to false, it grants itself root privileges (with some nifty setuuid root-thingy, I imagine) This is not the problem - this is the feature.
The bug is this:
the fact that any user can add the lines
[auth]
askforpwd=false
to his own shaman.conf file, without ever entering the root password in shaman. The next time shaman is run, it checks the config file, and if the askforpwd value is set to false, it grants itself root privileges - even though the user has never entered the root password.
This works for any unprivileged user on the system.
If that is indeed a feature intended by any sane person, then I'm Mother Mary. And that can't be, seeing as I don't have breasts. -
Vivado hardware server "hw_server" process doesn't close when server is closed
Vivado hardware server "hw_server" process doesn't close when server is closed.
Also, the connecting to the server hangs if a device is physically disconnected and reconnected (usually).
The "hw_server" process continually has to be killed via Task Manager, Vivado has to be closed and reopened sometimes as well.
Using Vivado 2014.1
Please fix this.
I'm on 2014.1 as well (Win7-64). I have a similar problem with 2 different PCs running the same setup. The Hardware Manager hangs while attempting some activity (usually reconfig). I click "Cancel" to dismiss the activity, which causes all of Vivado to hang. Seeing no other option, I kill Vivado in the Task Manager. However, this has the unfortunate side effect of leaving an orphaned hw_server process that can't be killed by any means, thus requiring a reboot of the PC.
This is monumentally annoying.
Can someone comment on whether this is due to a known issue, and if it's fixed in 2014.2?

What is this Wine that takes over 100 MB of memory running under root on my computer?
The only apps I have installed since purchasing are Mac Keeper and the most recent version of Caffeine.
Also, wine is running by itself, and it is there going when I first turn the computer on. I can shut it down through activity monitor, though.
When I look at the process heirarchically, though, it shows up.
The process heirarchy looks like this: launchd -> AntiVirus -> wine and nothing is running under wine. -

Hi everybody,
I currently use TI SmartView (Interactiv Emulator for TI Calcs) with my pupils. Since the last update of Mac OS X (my macbook runs with 10.6.5 version), TI SmartView doesn't run and I have the following message which appears:
+Process: JavaApplicationStub [1208]+
+Path: /Applications/TI-SmartView83Plus.fr84Plus.App/Contents/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub+
+Identifier: com.apple.javajdk16.TI-SmartView pour TI-83 Plus.fr / TI-84 Plus+
+Version: 1.0 (1.0)+
+Code Type: X86 (Native)+
+Parent Process: launchd [172]+
Do you know what is this problem ? Is it a problem with Java ?
Many thanks for your answers !
Friendly yours,
David- I also tried to reinstall this software, without any success.
- TI contacted me and gave me a web link to download TI SmartView 1.1 ... I've done this, installed it ... and the same problem is always here ! :-((
I think that this problem probably comes from Java.
Here is the beggining of the error report:
