QOS on 7609 Router

What will be the minimum QOS rate limit can be applied on 7609 router.
Can i Apply minimum 64 KB rate limit on 7609 router ?
Regards,
Moorthy Baddi.

Hi,
with a policy-map you could apply a policer like this:
7609(config-pmap-c)#police ?
WORD 8,000-10,000,000,000 Bits per second
aggregate Choose aggregate policer for current class
cir Committed information rate
flow police each flow
rate Specify police rate, PCR for hierarchical policies or SCR for
single-level ATM 4.0 policer policies
I don't think there is a platform limitation.

  • Configuring QoS for FIOS Router MI-424WR: Traffic Priority and Shaping

Please only read on if you are an experienced internet user familiar with setting the advanced QoS and Firewall settings for the MI-424WR and make use of wireless adaptors from a PC to provide connectivity.
This is my first post and my first week since I moved from Time Warner Cable over to FIOS for iNet (plus HDTV and phone).     While all my services work, the router as delivered and setup is not optimum for internet quality of service.  Instead it was probably out of the box optimized for HDTV and telephone to satisfy most customers and reduce support overhead.   The average FIOS consumer is multimedia sensitive, but that is not so in my genre of internet consumer.   Here in lies the core of my reason for seeking help from like minded and experienced users in this community.
One of the main driving forces in my switching to FIOS was to improve my multiplayer gaming experience where ultra low ping latency and high upload data rates dramatically affect the quality of connection and thus gameplay.    The cable internet service from TimeWarner was providing solid 2MB/1MB down/up data rates with no issues like what Im having now with FIOS.   Again the reason for the switch was both financial and in hope of gaining better data rates and quality of service.   Now with FIOS Im getting about 24/15 down/up data rate on the Extreme FIOS 25/25 plan when measured from my house to Los Angeles server (50 miles away) via Speedtest.net or DslReports.com/tests.     Latency wise, the ping has gone down from 150 to 50ms when measured to my friends who I connect to online that are on the East coast.   The data rate and latency has greatly improved in going from Cable to FIOS.   So far, so good.
Where the problem shows up now, is that now I get an internet "hiccup" every 5-10 minutes that lasts about 1/2 to 2 seconds.   For the average internet user that just streams multimedia or cruises on the net; this is probably undetectable or noticed.   I never had this problem over the same PCs connected wirelessly to my DLINK DGL-4500 Gaming Router when my ISP was TimeWarner's cable service.    Now, using the FIOS and MI-424WR router with everythings being the same; Im experiencing this degregation in quality of service.    Even putting the PC's IP into the DMZ doesnt make any difference, so it is not related to port forwarding.    The issue is squarely in the lap of FIOS and this router as delivered and configured.    This is where the "game" is a foot, and where I need expertise in an area Im new to.
I am not new to being hands on with inet trouble shooting asI have been setting up my own home network (I work from home over VPN to work) for decades;  I would like to leverage the skills of those who are experts in the area that I think can address this issue.   That being QoS and the other device class mechanisms of this router.   Its my guess that this periodic hiccup can be minimized and even eliminated using these advanced features of this all-in-one TV/iNet/Tele router.
With that context being laid down, this hiccup doesnt show up if:
    a.  I connect two PCs connected to the same ethernet hub of the MI-424WR (traffic just over the LAN and not WAN)
    b.  When I was on Cable with my own gaming router wirelessly DHCP connected to my PC and using port forwarding or using the DMZ.
    The hiccup does exist when:
    a.  Going from internet through the MI-424WR to the wireless DHCP connected PC with port forwarding
    b.  Even putting the wireless DHCP connected PC into the MI-424WR's DMZ has no effect
I did read the manual and tried some QoS pritority and shaping and managed to reduce how often the hiccup occured, but I was just making guesses at the settings.   I put in the IP for the PCs I use for my gaming applications (which are very ping and jitter sensitive) into the QoS priority (value 7) and shaping GUI.    Im hoping someone with experience can tell me exactly how to use it and what settings to input.   Im not clear on the device and connection types offered in the QoS menus.
Another thing, is I couldnt find settings for the turning on/off the ICMP echo.   But I assume this is on because it can be pinged by folks on the net to my WAN IP.
Here is the manual for the Verizon provided M424WR router (Current Version of firmware: 20.10.7)
    download link
Here are the QoS traffic priority and shaping values Ive been experimenting with:
Click to view QoS Traffic Priority
Click to view QoS Traffic Shaping
And why it matters to have a solid and stable inet connection for internet gaming?  The hiccup causes slewing or jitter which equates to positional errors in the 3D world that ruins the smooth gameplay that is needed for high end gaming.
Heres a snapshot of me flying the wing of another flight simmer who is on the East coast and me on the West coast.

That's not accurate.  VZ telephone service does not go through the Actiontec.  Also, there are no default settings for QOS in the Actiontec since QOS is rarely needed with FIOS upload speeds.

You should not be experiencing periodic "hiccups".  Something is clearly amiss.

Lets see.  The issue shows up on a wireless connection, but not a wired connection.  You think this is a QOS issue and not a wireless issue why?  Have you tried changing the wireless channel?  It very possible you have neighbors on the same channel.  Is the DGL-4500 wireless still on?  Could that be interfering?TMAS wrote:

The settting to enable/disable ICMP echo is on the Firewall/Remote Administration page.

The traffic proirity settings you linked are applied only to your wireless connections.  QOS between the router and your wireless PC will only serve to prioritize traffic between the router and that PC and have no affect on your internet traffic.  Assuming you are not running browsers, VOIP and other traffic from that PC while you're gaming, then that will not accomplish anything.  i.e.  You're giving your only traffic highest priority, but that traffic is not competing with anything (except other nearby wireless connections on the same channel).
On the traffic shaping screenshot, you have broadband ethernet checked, but according to your other thread, your WAN connection is Broadband Coax, not Broadband ethernet.

  • Cisco 7609 router received higher traffic than upstream provider router is sending

    Hi all,
I have a Cisco 7609 router that connects to our upstream provider router using 3rd party DWDM Fiber backhaul provider.
The upstream provider router is a Juniper router that had capped our port speed to 1.1Gbps, the backhaul provider didn't capped our port speed and the maximum speed is 2Gbps since it's a 2x1Gbps port channel interface.
I have noticed that our 7609 router able to receive traffic that exceeds 1.1Gbps, and the highest traffic able to received is 1.3Gbps and more.
I have crossed checked the MRTG graph provided by our upstream provider as well as our PRTG graph and indeed we are receiving higher bandwidth than our upstream provider is sending.
I'd like to know if anyone know how it is possible to receive traffic that is higher than what the neighbor router is sending?

    Hi at all,
We found a solution for this Problem !!
We always and always got this error:
%PQUICC-1-LOSTCARR: Unit 0, lost carrier. Transceiver problem?
The problem was the cable! The following pin-out is required:
                                            1 ----- 1
                                            2 ----- 2
                                            3 ----- 6
                                            4 ----- 5
                                            5 ----- 4
                                            6 ----- 3
                                            7 ----- 7
                                            8 ----- 8
We used this and the fault has disappeared!!
The only problem that still exists:
After the first connection the router must be rebooted because otherwise no more additional session is established.
    Thanks for all answers.

  • Need help setting up QOS on N900 router with PS4

Hello all, I am looking to use the QOS settings on the N900 to secure my connection for gaming on PS4. I followed the indications in the link below, but instead of doing port forwarding, i enabled the QOS settings on all the ports used by the PS4. Is that how its supposed to work? Should i only do port forwarding to get my desired results?  Here are the instructions i followed: http://portforward.com/networking/static-ip-ps4/ Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hello mr Trancer, Thanks for taking the time to reply to my query, but i would dare say that this does not answer it however. I very well understand that port forwarding and QOS are different things. My question is: why is it that connection still fluctuates when i create a static IP on my PS4, then apply the QOS parameters to all the ports that the PS4 uses on that IP adress. I am not a wizz when it comes to that sort of thing, but those instructions are pretty clear, and the N900 router should be good enough to do it, so why doesnt it work? My internet connection speed is 30mbps and i have done the speed tests on those websites and they confirm im getting what i pay for, so this should work yet it doesnt. Any thoughts?

  • NMH405 and QOS setting on Router to optimize network traffic

Are there settings to optimize the NMH405 on a Network.  I'm using a Westell DSL Wireless 4 port Modem/Router with QOS options.
It seems that there is a lot of lag time now when I try to move and read files to or on the NMH405.  If adjusting my router to work well with the NMH405 will help through basic or advanced funtions I'm willing to do that.  This could also help when using the SONY Playstation 3 to access music and photos.

  • QOS on 6500 routed interface

All of the QOS configuration guidance I've seen in the documentation on this website refers to 6500 switched interfaces (switchport mode access/trunk).
Is the QOS configuration different on a 6500 routed interface. For instance on an interface between two core switches in a routed (Layer 3) core?
I have already reviewed all of the IOS-related 6500 Cisco documents I could find, and the latest QOS SRND with no luck finding info on this issue.
    Thanks

If you're going to use only two queues, and if you want to guarantee the one queue 35% of your egress bandwidth, you need to assign your two queues the ratio of 65:35; you'll need to adjust the four queue percentages to provide those two queues the same ratio.  Ideally you'll want something like share 0 65 35 0, but if you cannot assign zero, something like 40 13 7 40, 20 39 21 20, 10 52 28 10 should do.

  • Cisco3945 router QOS

    Hi,
We want to enable qos on Cisco router and the requirement what i have is,
We have to give first priority to data always, Second priority to audio and Third priority to video
    Or
Simple way Total bandwidth should be allocated Data 60% Audio 20% and Video 20%. Whenever the data is usage is not there, it should allow the audio and video for full usage.
Is it possible to achieve in this router? if yes, can you please share sample configuration.
    Regards

Match is the statement used within a class-map to "match" traffic you're want to include in that class.  Classes can be defined with match-any, which means any match statement will match the traffic for the class, or match-all, which means all match statements much be true to match the traffic for the class.
There's always a class-default, but when you define it, you can adjust its default values.  It's useful for "none of the above" (it's always listed last).
In your case, you'll likely need to explicitly match your video and audio traffic, but I assume your "data" would be everything else.  If so, a case where class default can be used.
The bandwidth statements sets minimum guarantees of bandwidth but does not preclude that class from using otherwise unused bandwidth, including all the bandwidth (again if not being used by other classes).

  • Router Interface (7304 NSE100) QoS Input Scheduling

    Guys,
I had great feedback on the Switch input scheduling question last week. Many thx to all online (and my colleagues at work) :)
If you can apply input scheduling on a switch port, ie the SP or default queues, can you apply input scheduling on a router interface?
    switch
    input-q----------PFC----------output-q
    router
    input-int---------cef-or-rp----------output-int
At the moment, most QoS for a router is done (in my expreience) on outbound scheduling, ie setting a CBWFQ bandwidth or priority and setting this policy-map outbound on the router egress interface
Should we be doing it inbound for traffic coming into a router interface before the packet gets cef switched (or sent to the RP for process or fast switching)?
So if two packets come into the router interface at the same time, based on a DSCP value, we should schedule a voice packet to be processed by CEF switching (or the RP) before an email packet?
I am just applying the switch methodology that I learned about last week to a router device. I know all routers have different archetectures, so will probably be spefific to a platform. I am using NSE100s (PXF based) on a 7304 platform.
    Kindest regards,
    Ken

  • WRT54G router / VOIP / QoS

I have a WRT54G (hardware version 5) router, Comcast Cable Business Internet (22 MB download, 5 MB upload), three Macintosh computers, and an ESI IP phone.  Often my voice is distorted to those I am speaking to on the phone.  I have set up the QoS on the router to give priority to the phone (using the MAC number), but it does not seem to make a difference.  Is there a trick to it, or do I need more up-to-date hardware (a new router?  a different kind of router?)  Thanks.

Firmware Version: v1.01.1.    The latest firmware for Hardware version 5 is firmware Ver.1.02.7.  The release notes do not indicate anything regarding QoS was fixed since my firmware version, but I guess it's worth a try.  Thanks.

  • More Options in QOS please?

Is there any way to re-configure the flash bios to allow more options in in QOS for more computers of the Linksys WRT54GL? I have two areas where I can add a computer and select weather it should have lowest-highest priorities, but two computers are not enough. I would like an extended ability to add more computers to this list, can anyone tell me if there is a bios out there with this abilitiy? I would be willing to look into third party bios as well if they are the only ones which support this. I like Linksys and their products, however, I believe they should have added extended features to the bios in this case. I understand the WRT54GL code is under GPL and that I could be able to edit it myself had I known programming, alas I do not and I could very easily brick my router.. and that would not be fun

I think only 3-4 computer can be added under QoS on the router ....
Even you upgrade the firmware of the router ... still the basic features remains the same .....

  • Qos in CME

I have a cme express in my router and now I have PC's and Ip phones in the same subnet.
Which is the better option for having voice and data in the same subnet?
Is it better to create 2 different Vlan's ?
How can I prioritize 1 Vlan over the other
Is there any example of this configuration?
    Best regards

It is a best practice to separate voice and data traffic into different vlans/subnets. You will want to congigure VLANS and QoS on your switch and create a trunk between the switch and the router. Take a look at the following link for the procedure.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps4625/products_installation_guide_chapter09186a0080527151.html
You can then use the "auto qos voip cisco-phone" at the interface level to configure the ports on your switch. If you are running voice across the WAN from this location you will want to configure QoS on the router. The QoS SRND is a good resource for sample configs. There is a good example of prioritizing traffic based on DSCP and VLAN in the Campus QoS Design -> Catalyst 3550 -> Conditionally Trusted IP Phone section.

  • Setting uplink/downlink speed for QoS on WRT300N

I've setup QoS on this router to give my 2 voip box's high priority, http/email/video traffic medium priority, and bittorrent low priority. The problem is, there is no place to tell the router how fast my connection is.. uplink/downlink speed isn't an option. And right now the QoS isn't being effective, and low priority data is blocking high priority. How do i configure this router to manage bandwith?
    Firmware Version is 0.93.9

Hi… Make sure you have setup correct port no under QOS. Especially check the ports used by bit torrent. Assign a Particular port to bittorrent if needed and set low priority to it. Also limit the no of peer connection per download and no of simultaneous downlaods. Also make sure that you have setup port triggers and not forwarding for your VOIP boxes
