QoS - Upstream Bandwidth

Just wondering if there is any more info about this setting. I really don't have a problem to fix, just seeking a better understanding regarding this setting.
I have myself and many clients on SIP based hosted VOIP (Vocalocity) and this has helped improve call quality.  We add the mac address for each phone and give it high priority.
In most cases when there is a multitude of upstream speed it seems that manually setting this number to below the actual speed really helps to keep the PCs from hogging the upload speed and thus preventing latency.

1. It helps a lot if you post the router you use. Different models have different settings.
2. Generally, it's correct what you see. The auto setting tries to use the full bandwidth available. Of course, bandwidth usually varies with most ISPs thus you will probably see more packet loss in moments when the real bandwidth is less (i.e. usually due to other customer's traffic).
Thus if you set it to a lower value it will reduce packet loss because the total upstream traffic won't hit the ceiling of what's actually possible at that moment.
Of course, on the other hand a lower value won't really let use the total available bandwidth at moments when there is more.
Example: 8 Mbit/s DSL line. Speedtests show varying 4-5 Mbit/s throughput, but never or very rarely below 4 Mbit/s.. Thus, if you manually set the upstream bandwidth to 4 Mbit/s you will prevent the connection from overloading. Little packet loss and little latency. Setting it higher will increase the chance of overloading the line.
The main problem is that the router has no way to know what bandwidth is really available at any given time. All it can do is to guess from what it saw before.

  • IP QoS Upstream Settings

    Hi everyone,
I want the internet to prioritize my computer over the other devices in my house. I have typed in my IP in the web browser and went to my router config. Then I went to IP QoS Upstream Settings and filled out the first 4 steps of 1. Check the boxes below to enable QoS and to enable QoS in Trusted Mode. Then, name the Rule. 2. Select Default Qos or Custom Qos Below. 3. Name  the custom rule below. Then, set the desired priority and reserved bandwidth for the applications. 4. Select the Protocol and TOS BIT value.  I am now stuck on the last two which is 5. Select Source IP information. AND 6. Select Destination IP information.
What is the Source IP? Is it my router's IP? Is it my extender's IP?
If It's my router's IP, where do I find this?
What is my destination IP? Is it my computer's IP?
If so, then where do I find it?
Thank you SO MUCH for reading this and hopefully answering it
PM me if you have any questions.

I have the same issue. I am able to load the tool successfully. But when I try to do the setting the web tool give a success message but it is not able to do the setting on the phone. I observed the phone behavior and I found out the phone is trying to dial 3413**#33000xx and phone says invalid number. I am not sure how to find the right string for the new phone load.

  • P2P multicast and upstream bandwidth

    Hi,
I'm in the process of developing a realtime video chat application where multiple users can send video streams simultanuously. The number of users receiving the streams can be very big, e.g. 10 broadcasters and 500 receivers, each receiver should get all streams.
I use RTMFP connections to an FMS and streams are published in P2P multicast groups by passing the groupspec to the NetStream constructor. Currently I'm having problems with audio/video synchronization and video stream 'jumps' (not continuous). From what I read on other threads, this is related to the fact that there is not enough upstream bandwidth for sending the streams. So my questions are:
How to calculate the required upstream bandwidth on every peer for the given example of 10 broadcasters and 500 receivers (is it 10*bandwidth of one stream)?
What settings (on NetStream, Camera, Microphone etc.) should be used for best results and how to adapt them based on the number of broadcasters?
I hope my questions make sense!
    Thanks,
    Haykel

I have done some tests to find out how much upstream bandwidth is used for different situations. The data is taken from the 'multicastInfo' property of all involved 'NetStream' objects as follows:
Multicast Data: average of 'multicastInfo.sendDataBytesPerSecond' of all streams.
Multicast Control : average of 'multicastInfo.sendControlBytesPerSecond' of all streams.
Different measurements have been done for different situations:
The user is broadcasting and not broadcasting
    Varying number of connected users
    Varying number of users broadcasting
I have limited the maximum video bandwidth to 16 KBytes with 'Camera.setQuality(1024 * 16, 0)'.
The application uses only application level multicast (passing a groupspec to the NetStream constructor). In this test all peers are on the same LAN and the FMS server is on a remote machine.
The results in Bytes/s (click to enlarge):
What I have noticed is that the outgoing multicast data volume grows by ~15 KByte with every new connected user (receiver) and goes down when the number of broadcasters grows. Is that normal? Does it mean that only the broadcasters are sharing the streams with the other peers? I thought that every peer would share the data with a number of neighbours (i.e. 3) which would share with their neighbours and so on.
During the tests I have also checked for a/v delays and noticed the following:
For every new stream, at the beginning audio and video are in sync but have a delay of ~3 seconds
After ~20 seconds the video delay becomes marginal but the audio remains delayed and so goes out of sync with video
After ~30 seconds the audio delay becomes marginal and goes in sync with video (a/v are now stable)
The delays of 20 and 30 seconds grow up to more than a minute when the number of broadcasters grows
    My questions:
    Are my measurements correct?
Why is the outgoing multicast data volume growing with every new receiver? Is the publishing stream sending the data to all peers?
Should I expect the bandwidth to grow indefinitly with the number of receivers or will it stabilize at some value?
How to decrease the time required for a/v to become stable (in-sync with a small delay)?
Is P2P multicast a good choice for this kind of applications (up to 10 broadcasters and a very big number of receivers)?
    Any advices???
    Thanks.

  • RV042 can't sum upstream bandwidth

    Hi to all,
since i've bought my RV042 CISCO (v3 hardware, firmware v4.1.1.01-sp Dec 6 2011 20:03:18) i wasn't able to let it work properly with my two DSL network llines.
    I explain.
    I got 2 DSL network:
1- PPPoE with authentication (MTU setted as auto) with upstream speed 4Mbit/S and downstream speed 5Mbit/s
2- Direct line with static IP with upstream speed 7Mbit/S and downstream speed 1Mbit/s
I was never able to SUM the two WAN using the LOAD BALANCE set.
    I tried all combinations:
DSL 1 in WAN 1 or in WAN 2
DSL 2 in WAN 2 or in WAN 1
I've setted all type of speeds in WAN SPEED in Web Management
it seems that for some kind of reason it takes the upstream speed i can set in web management as the default value on which it decides to use the other WAN.
When i set low upstream bandwidth for DSL 2 it's able to sum the downstreams of both WANs but not the upstreams.
I wasn't ever abel to sum the upstreams?
    How does it work?
Is there any workaround for this issue?
    Thank you in advance
    Frank

    Two thing
1 you "can add/sum" the bandwidth of your two wans if you use a peer to peer protocol like a torrent download. That will use connections on both wans and you can benefit from the added speed.
2 on system Managment ,bandwidth Managment , rate control, make a rule
All traffic for ip 192.xx.xx.xx to 192.xx.xx.xx upstream with speeds x y on Wan1 enabled
Should stop balancing one ip for all traffic or change the ports for specific outgoing traffic
    Best luck

  • Upstream bandwidth req to run Adobe Connect w live video

Is 3mbps enough upstream bandwidth to run Adobe Connect meetings for 6 - 12 attendees w live video?

Here is the Connect 9 Technical guide. Average bandwidth consumption numbers are listed on the 2nd to last page. http://www.realeyes.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Adobe-Connect-9-Technical-Guide.pdf
Assuming highest quality settings each user would need around a 500 kpbs upstream bandwidth. Other things to consider is if they are broadcasting VoIP audio (44 kbps) and/or sharing their screen 200+ kbps. So, I would suspect that a 3 mbps upstream connection will be sufficient for attending a Connect Meeting.
However, you may want to consider that their downstream may be saturated pretty quick with the live video. Again, assuming highest quality setting (meaning you can tune it down and make the numbers more reasonable) a meeting with 6 attendees all broadcasting their live video would require 500 kbps upstream and 2.5 mbps downstream. A meeting with 12 would require 500 kbps upstream and 5.5 mbps downstream.

  • Upstream bandwidth QoS profile 5508 WLC

    Hello,
Is it possible, through a QoS profile, to control how much bandwidth a user gets to use for upstream traffic?  I can easily set limits for downstream traffic, via the per user bandwidth contracts, but it is not obvious to me on how to control upstream traffic.
Any and all info is appreciated!
    Thanks

upstream traffic needs to be defined at L3, via your QoS settings. As you've said, the profile on the WLC is downstream only.

  • Cisco 1602e AP bandwidth limiting, qos question.

I have a few AIR-SAP1602E-A-K9, and I was wondering if they are able to do any type of QoS or bandwidth throttling/limiting based on destination ip address or perhaps even just limiting the speed of that wireless interface?  Essentially we'd like it so people on the "Internet only" ssid can use a certain amount of bandwidth - like 4mb or something.  If this AP simply can't do it, then are there any suggestions for what I should do instead?  Thanks in advance for any assistance!

You have an autonomous AP and its really not possible to limit the traffic. You might be able to setup am acl on the router to limit the bandwidth as long as these users are on a different subnet than your internal user. Others in the past have used a 3rd party wifi hotspot software. These software you can have users login or not, but you can control bandwidth. Some are paid versions and some are free. You would just have to look around and try them.

  • Question Regarding QoS and Firewalls Rules

Hello experts, I hope a simple question for you today. I am working to elevate our outdated H323 traffic down a VPN tunnel we are only getting 600k throughput on.
Under "Networking --> QOS --> WAN QOS" I have configured the downstream and upstream bandwidth rates using the 85% rule. I have also created a bandwidth profile called VOIP using 128-256kbps with a priority of "High"
Under "Traffic Selector" I have created the profile using the VLAN 100 for the IP phones with the VOIP bandwidth profile.
My question, is this the correct configuration and I'm done? Or do I need to go further and create the same IPv4 rules in the firewall rules giving it a QoS Priority of "Minimize Delay"
Is there a way in SA540 to see the QOS statistics to see if they are working correctly?  I appreciate your input as always experts!!

It's about the relevance of the link. Some will post a vague link to the SAP help that adds no value to anyone trying to find the answer to the question, whereas a targeted link to a - possibly difficult to find - page can be very useful.
It's a bit of a subjective thing, example:
A detailed question asks about technical info behind assigning a cost center to an organizational unit in the org chart.
    A reply such as:
    Check [this link|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/0b/dfba3692dc635ce10000009b38f839/frameset.htm].
Is just wasting everyone's time. Unfortunately we see a lot of these, people seem to think it's a quick way of getting cheap points but it just frustrates everyone else.
Asimilar answer can however be very useful if it contains a targeted link that relates directly to the question, e.g.
See the help on [account assignment infotypes|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/bb/bdb2b6575911d189240000e8323d3a/frameset.htm].
However a generic link as per my first example as part of a detailed explanation with a comment of "further info can be found over here" is a good post since the purpose of the link it more for convenience or reference info in addition to the answer in the post.
    Hope that helps,
    Mike

  • How do I limit bandwidth on a particular device?

I want to know how I can manually limit the Kbps for a particular devince in the QOS.
I DO NOT want to simply set the priority (low/med/high). I want to "physically" limit a device.
When I select to do it manually (upstream bandwidth) it limits ALL devices and I do not want this.
I want to limit the bandwidth on only one device that is connected (ie an Xbox)
    I have a Linksys E4200 V2

  • Bug in QoS?

Recently upgraded by WRT610N to an E4200. I manually entered all of the configuration parameters and it came up just fine, but afterwards, I noticed that upstream performance was terrible. I ran a speed test, and I was getting ~ 1M of upstream bandwidth now, vs ~ 11-12M on the 610. After troubleshooting for a while and chatting with 2 techs, I did a factory reset and started over with the configs, this time running a speed test in between each settings page. As soon as I turned QoS on, bandwidth was immediately capped at ~ 1.1M up. I created a MAC-based High priority entry for my PC (the only one on the network at this time so there could be no interference from other devices) but no help. I soon realized that the problem was the Auto setting. If I manually set the upstream bandwidth to 12M, then things worked fine. On Auto, though, bandwidth was always throttled around 1M. I have left this in Manual mode for now, but this seems to be a problem. I am running 1.00.03 Build 14 (latest) and have not tried earlier firmware releases.
One other odd behavior. As part of my debugging, I put the 610 back in place as the gateway (talking to the cable modem) and set up the E4200 on a 192.168.2.1 subnet underneath the 610 so I could continue to test it while letting the rest of the family back on the net. Strangely here, there was no issue with upstream bandwidth in the Auto mode with QoS. (1G Cat6 Ethernet connection from the E4200 to the 610N). So, it gets it right with Ethernet to another router (at least close enough) but not when talking to the cable modem (DOCSIS2) directly.
Has anyone else seen this behavior?
Disclaimer: I work for Cisco but not at Linksys.

Your uplink speed throttling looks pretty similar to mine.
I suspect the reason this was not reproduced in the lab is the type of connection between the devices. I saw pretty much the same bandwidth in Auto or Manual when the E4200 was talking to the 610N (25-30Mbps down, 11-13Mbps up). Unplug it and plug it into the cable modem, and instant throttling.
I also recently bought a new DOCSIS3 modem for another location and I'll try switching to that and see if it makes a difference. It's a Moto SB6120 with a GE port. If that works my first guess would be the GE vs 10/100 ( what  the current cable model has).
I will post the results in a week or so. Too busy next week to debug this any more ...

  • QoS settings questions

What if I enable QoS and not add any applications to it?
Is that the same as if the setting were disabled?  Please see attached screen shot.  Should upstream stay on auto?

From what I know Auto is recommended since it is the router that will allocate the bandwidth needed for a certain application as was already mentioned by hillary681. The only time you need to enter a specific value is when it is specified for that particular application. The router as well detects the maximum upstream bandwidth of your Internet Connection, so keep it at default of which is Auto.

  • Qos - giving wired connections priority over wireless connections

I have a WRT54G with revised firmware.  I have one wireless connection and one wired connection.  I'd like to set it up so that the wired connection uses the majority of the bandwidth.  This way the resource intensive programs I use for work (CAD, GIS, etc accessing files remotely) will be guaranteed to have available more bandwith than my daughter on her laptop using IM, web cam and WOW-type game play.  I don't mind her using these programs, but I have to make my work a priority.
It seems that I can shape traffic if each were a WIRED connection and also that the single QoS option for wireless will enhance WiFi MultiMedia.  How can I assign a preference to the WIRED connection and provide a smaller but usable portion of bandwith to the wireless connection?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the input, although I still am a bit lost.  I apologize if my questions appear repetitive.

  • WRT54GS V6 Bug - QoS Bug Firmware v1.50.9

In the QoS section i tried to setup a Entry for my VoIP Packet 8 Phone and when i Enable Qos and under "Device Priority" i enter the MAC address of my VoIP Phone adapter and set the priority to high. I have the Upstream Bandwidth set to Auto and when i click save setting it tells me that the Bandwidth is out of range must be 64-100000. But it is set on AUTO and the Bandwidth box is Grayed out so you cant type in the box.  So it is a Bug for sure.
I can set the Upstream Bandwidth to Manual and type in a number between the 64-100000 and then set it back to Auto and it retains the number even though it grays it out then it will let me save it.
So i guess the AUTO is not AUTO.
    I have firmware 1.50.9

can your wireless pc still see your ssid after the upgrade? after the upgrade you may had reseted the router. what error message are your getting?
Make sure that the wireless settings are all configured correctly.

  • QoS on e4200 - High priority though my speed has halved! :(

    Hi there,
I have a 100mbps connection at home and i've set up QoS to ensure my main PC gets the run of the bandwidth.
However with my main PC set to high priority, I'm only getting just over 50mbps.
Any ideas as to why this is?
    Thank you!

Hi, Pizzimperfect. Try theMedia Prioritization Settings andmanually change the Downstream and Upstream Bandwidth to "0".

  • QoS on WRT54GS w/ Speedbooster

I'm using a WRT54GS ver. 6 w/ Speedbooster and the latest firmware, and am experiencing lag when I try to play online XBOX 360 games. Browsing the internet, downloading files, etc. all work fine, and despite the fact that my console is wired directly to the router, I still experience lag. I have no problems with this when it is wired directly to the cable modem.
I'd like to know if I can use the QoS feature to fix this problem. I have already tried, but I didn't know what to set the "upstream bandwidth" to. If anyone has any information on QoS that can help me solve this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
Sorry for the inarticulate post, if you need any clarification just ask.

I have the exact same set-up. I have actually quit playing on-line because the lag is so bad. I have just tried the QoS and will try again. I used to have Verizon DSL. The connection was fine. I never lagged. I recently moved and now have Mediacom Cable. I thought with the cable connection I would be better off. I'm really missing DSL at this point. I recently bought Saints Row. Never played it with the DSL so I just assumed their server was horrible. Let's hope this helps. And is there anyway to boost the cable connection. I bought the Speedbooster under the wrong impression of what it does. It only makes your own network faster, but my network is only my pc and 360.
