  • Power saver turns off sound

While listening to podcasts, my iPod goes to power save mode (screen gets dark), but this turns off the sound as well.  The podcast stops playing. I think it plays for about one minute, then shuts down.

Yeah well my PSU is ok cause i just baught a new one and i hope i dont have a short.
Do you think that maybe the graphic card isnt compatable or something cause these things started happening when i changed my graphic card and this only happens while i'm playing games cause not even if i have loads of software running it still wont do it.
And does anyone know of software which i can use to check my RAM?
    Thanks.

  • Msi p45 platinum - freezes after power save turns off displays

Just put this computer together, everything is stock, no overclocking. Seems to run fine, played a few hours of modern warfare 2 with no issues.
I noticed It seems to freeze after the monitor gets turned off by the power save mode. I just tested this by setting it to turn off displays after 1 minute of inactivity, waited watched the monitor turn off, then I went to the move the mouse and the screen came back on but the cursor would not move. sometimes the screen will not even come back on.
I have turned the computer on, left the room while it was booting to eat breakfast or take a shower, came back the screen was still on but the computer was frozen. Window 7 login screen was up, but there were some graphic glitches. this has happened a couple of times.
If I manually put the computer to sleep it seems to come back properly.

I think it might be the video card or power supply. Was building two systems,

  • Power LED Turns Off and pc Hangs

    Hi,
During the last few weeks i've been having some problems with my system.
    1. While playing games at a certain time (not always the same time) my power led turns off but my system does not turn off. Instead it just runs very slow and any audio, software and the mouse pointer is constantly lagging until i restart it.
    2. After problem 1 while restarting it takes a lot of time to shutdown and hangs at the Windows is Shutting Down screen, so then i'll have to press the reset button.
    3. The system also rarely instantly turns of without going trough shutdown and even more rarely it resets while scanning the RAM at the BIOS.
Thanks in advance for all your help!

  • When the screen saver turns off my front panel does not refresh.

when the screen saver turns off my front panel does not refresh. If I use the show desktop button sometimes I can not maximize my vi by just clicking on it from the start bar.

I utilize both a screen saver and the show desktop feature but have never seen this problem in the past. You might play around with your screen saver settings to see if they have any affect. You might also try another computer just to make sure something larger scale isn't going on. Also, testing with other programs to make sure it isn't a general OS issue is always a good idea. Other possibilities include changing your Video Driver settings, updating your video driver, and uninstalling - reinstalling.

No power after turning off and plugging into a new functioning outlet

Perhaps corruption of the Energy Saver settings...
    Reset the PRAM cannot hurt.
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • How do I turn off iCloud Drive?

I don't like the idea of all my docs in the cloud.  I want to stop the syncing and just keep the docs on my computer.  However, when I try to turn off iCloud Drive it tells me that I'm going to be deleting everything from my Mac!  How do I stop iCloud Drive but keep my files secure in my Mac?

The logic is that iCloud Drive is a hub for data shared among your devices, and the assumption is that if you delete something, you want it deleted. And practically, your file is treated as if the Drive copy is the only one. The Drive system may cache a copy on your device to allow easy, quick access, but the master copy is the one in the cloud. Delete the master copy and the cached copies have no "parent" and no way of maintaining any kind of sync.
It's similar to using a corporate network drive to get access to your files from anywhere. Delete a file without making a local copy and it's no longer accessible.

  • HT1338 how do I turn off optical digital-out port?

how do I turn off optical digital-out port?

Just want to report that I too, running 10.6.5 on a MacBook Pro, had the mysterious " Audio Out Stuck On Optical Digital-Out Port" problem whereby I was unable to adjust the volume on my built-in speakers and they were permanently "muted" because the operating system was sending the audio signal to a non-existent device that it falsely thought was plugged in to my unused headphone jack hole. I thought at first the problem must necessarily be software-based because the built-in speakers worked fine when playing the start-up chimes. So I uninstalled something called "Soundflower" which does some mysterious shenanigans with commandeering the internal audio signal so that one can make audio recordings of one's computers' sound effects. But uninstalling Soundflower had no effect. So I uninstalled some other audio-related software, also to no avail. Then I zapped the PRAM, to no avail.
Then I decided to try what some people call "the toothpick trick," i.e. poking around in the headphone jack hole to see if something was stuck in there shortcircuiting it, and initiating the false signal to the OS.
    Bingo! Success!
Actually, I did a hyper-sophisticated version of the toothpick trick:
First, I own a home "otoscope," one of those doohickeys that doctors use to look into your ear. One can now buy amateur versions of otoscopes for home use, to looks for kids' ear infections, etc. (They only cost $30 or so.) Anyway, using the smallest attachment designed for babies' ears, I was able to look (with illumination) into the headphone jack hole and yessiree there was a big bunch of dust stuck way deep in there.
So then I took not a toothpick but instead a slender dental prong-pick thingie made of stainless steel, and very delicately was able to snag the clot of dust deep in the hole at the bottom on the first try. Quite a wad!
Then I took one of those rubber ear-bulbs, used for cleaning out your ears, and used it as a micro-vacuum-cleaner: Squeeze the rubber bulb til it is as empty as can be, then place the tip of the bulb at the entrance to the headphone jack hole, then suddenly release my grip: it ***** air out of the tiniest spaces! After doing this a few times, I then did the reverse and blew blasts of air into the hole.
After all this, I looked back into the hole with the otoscope, and it was sparkling clean! Not even the tiniest speck of dust in an area that just three minutes earlier was thick with dust.
I then turned my computer back on and...problem solved! The audio worked again like normal, and it was no longer detecting an imaginary "Optical Digital-Out Port" device. The internal speakers once again worked as normal, and the volume could be adjusted.
I guess the problem for me really was dust causing a short-circuit. It might very well be the same for you -- so try cleaning out the headphone jack hole as I did.
I'm writing this detailed description to help anyone else in the future with a similar problem.

  • "If you turn off iCloud Drive, all documents stored on iCloud will be deleted from this Mac.

My wife changed her iCloud password on her iPhone, and when she went to her iMac she changed her iCloud password there to match the iPhone. Then she got the following message:
"if you turn off iCloud Drive, all documents stored on iCloud will be deleted from this Mac. This appears under her iCloud account. She has Yosemite on her iMac.
    So she's stuck. Any ideas?

The documents remain in iCloud, but are removed from your mac.  So if she turns it off, they will be removed.  If she turns it back on, the documents would again be available.

  • Can you turn off iCloud Drive without losing data?

I enabled iCloud drive but then discovered through some articles that one should not enable iCloud Drive until Yosemite comes out and all of one's devices are running iOS8 and Yosemite on their computes.  Since enabling iCloud Drive I am missing Photostream and Pages docs that I had on my phone and god knows what else. When I went to try and turn off iCloud Drive (so I can then wait until Yosemite comes out before I re-enable iCloud Drive), I get the following message:
"Are you sure you want to turn off iCloud Drive? Some changes have not been uploaded to iCloud. If you turn off iCloud Drive, these changes will be lost." Immediately below that message is a red message that says "Delete from iPhone."
What exactly would be deleted from my phone if I turn off iCloud Drive?  What changes does the message refer to?  Why can't I just return my phone from iCloud Drive to the regular Cloud so I can access my Photostream and my Pages data?  And why on earth did Apple not alert us to the issues we would face with iOS8 if we install BEFORE Yosemite comes out?  This is so frustrating!
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Teresa

I would love to hear that Apple has remedied this problem. From other discussion strings that I am following related to this issue, it seems thus far we remain out of luck. I did discover that if I log onto iCloud.com I can access my files that way.  Still, what a pain.
When I got the message re iCloud Drive as I was setting up my phone after the update to iOS8, it said I wouldn't be able to access my files unless all of my devices were running iOS8 OR Yosemite. That message was misleading as it really should have said all devices need to be running iOS8 AND your mac needs to be running Yosemite, as it was not an "either or" situation.  So frustrating...

  • ITunes disables Power Options- Turn Off Monitor

If I just run iTunes on my Windows XP PC my monitor no longer turns off after the "Control Panel->Power Options->Power Schemes->Turn off monitor" time period has expired. The monitor stays on contiuously. This issue exists even if I exit iTunes. I need to manually go into control panel and reset the "Turn off monitor" setting.
I suppose there might be a reason iTunes wants to disable this when it's executing but how about putting this energy saving setting back they way it found it when I exit iTunes.
Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks,
    J

  • DANGER: Turning off iCould Drive DELETES documents on your local drive and terminates access to those documents on iCloud Drive

So, I wanted to move about 40 GB of my documents to iCloud Drive. I do so. The upload is very slow -- 3 days 24/7 with no end in sight. There's no status report available to know what the progress is. Internet service at work and home slows to a crawl. In frustration, I turn off iCloud Drive in Sys Prefs. HUGE mistake. In addition to losing access to the documents on iCloud Drive, which I expected, turning off iCloud Drive either deleted the original documents I'd moved to iCloud Drive, or deleted the map which, through iCloud Drive, I could view them in my /Library folder.
I think I can regain access to them on my "original" device (the device I used to move the documents to iCloud Drive in the first place), but I also think that requires the same glacial, bandwidth-hogging sync that moved them to iCloud Drive in the first place.
I had current Time Machine backups but, having lost access to the documents on iCloud Drive, those TM backups are now accessible only back to the files before I moved them to Cloud Drive and, of course, include none of the files I've created in those folders since moving them to iCloud Drive.
Has Apple really turned over software engineering for these sorts of new features to its most hateful competitors? iCloud Drive is a joke.

First, to access documents you must use an app designed for that specific Document type. So Pages will not be able to open PDFs. The Documents app by Readdle can handle PDFs though. In the latter case, you'd open the app, click the menu icon at its top left, and click Open to go to your iCloud Drive. With Pages, if you had files outside the main Pages folder, click + then iCloud and navigate to the file's location.
