Qosmio F10-124 - Pixelated screen, flicks into blank, then comes back to normal

It looks like the graphics hardware has failed on a pc bought in April 2005.
This occurred in stages, starting from around the time when I received
1) An automatic download of windows updates and
2) And Adobe upgrade.
In Sept 07. Do not know if this is at all related with the screen malfunctioning.
The screen has at best operated intermittently, with only access being possible using the external VGA port.
The latest Toshiba screen drivers for the WMD operating system did not rectify the problem.
In the last couple of days pixilation has occurred in various parts of the External monitor screen, whilst the laptop was just blank, up to that point the external screen was displaying my work just fine. Occasionally the laptop screen flicked into life and the pixilation has become more prevalent recently. The occurrences of the laptop screen working were random.
I need to have the screen settings such that the external monitor is a mirror of the Laptop screen to do anything on the laptop.
Rebooting the PC has no effect.
The latest symptoms are that the external screen shows that the OS has booted, but there is an alignment problem causing a pattern to appear across the screen, and this is "ghosted" ?? with several iterations of all screen events across the width of the screen output. The Laptop screen is not working at all at present.
Anyone have any ideas what could have caused this, and/or how to fix it??

The graphic card chip seems to malfunction. Your described issue sounds really like a chip fault
But please note that this is only my personal assumption and if you want to be 100% sure whats wrong then you will have to contact the service provider in your country for a detailed check.
In worst case the motherboard must be replaced because the GPU chip is fixed on the motherboard and cannot be removed.

  • My iPhone 4S screen has gone blank, it comes back occasionally, but not often.

    Basically,
A couple of weeks ago I sent a text then put my iPhone 4S down on my desk. When the reply came back my screen was completely blank. I could still here it working in the background, when screenshoting and pressing the screen randomly while it is locked. The first thing I tried was to reset the phone. This worked and I thought it was just a one off thing. No.
A few days ago the exact same scenario happened except this time the screen never returned. This time I tried to rest the phone many times but it still would not come back. I then booked an appointment at an Apple store where they said i would probably have to pay £146 for a new phone as it was deemed as 'accidental damage' although I have never dropped or hit my phone. This is also my second phone this year as in February the lock button failed but then Apple kindly supplied me with a new phone free of charge. After booking my apple store visit my screen somehow just came back without any reason. I couldnt make the Apple store appointment anymore and had to cancel but I thought I had got my phone back. I then proceeded to back-up my phone to parents computer, as my MacBook is also currently not working, just in case this screen thing happened again.
Well. It did. Last night, just as i was going to bed. The phone was in my hand the whole time, one minute I'm texting, next minute I just assume that the phone has locked itself but no it has just gone again. As I am now working every day for the next 11 days, I think as my calandar was on on my phone, I have no time to either visit an Apple store, closest of which is around an hour away, or visit my parents to try and restore my phone.
So any help here would be great.
    Thanks.

Since the genius bar has already confimed your phone has a hardware issue, there isn't much anyone here can suggest you do. There is no software fix for a hardware issue.

  • TV Screen goes blank, pixilates, then comes back

We have 2 sets out of 4 that will pixilate, go blank for 5-10 seconds then come back.  It is very intermittent, may work fine for hours then will do this for several hours.  All cable connections are tight, tv's are new.  Any other ideas?

Try swapping the connections at the splitter:  The 2 pixilating ones with the 2 that are OK.  See if the problem goes with the switch.  If it does then it's the splitter.  By the way this is strictly a guess.

  • Screen turns black and when I touch it, it comes back to normal

It happens all the time. My macbook's screen starts pixeling until it turns black. It comes back to normal when I touch the screen. Sometimes it happens so often that I have to touch the screen all the time. How can I solve this problem ???

By bringing it to an Apple store or an AASP.

When I close Firefox and then come back to it later a box comes up that says it's already running. It says to close Firefox first but when I hit close nothing happens and the box comes up again. I have to shut down my computer and restart to get into Firefox again. If I can't get this fixed I will start using someone else. Someone told me a way to close Firefox but I forgot what they said.

    Hello Brian.
You don't need to restart your computer to open Firefox again: you just need to close it manually through your application manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC in Processes tab). Anyway, hopefully this support article is what you need:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+hangs
What's probably happening is that you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

i googled for answer to resolve the zoom problem.  all the anwers just told you to read links but didn't tell how to fix the screem back to normal then it can be able to go to Setting to fix the zoom funciton.  HOWEVER, I accidentally found the solution myself by using a fingers or more
to draw circles clockwise on the screen....it will reset it normally.  I spent hours trying to go diagonally, compressively still didn't work.

  • Screen shuts down and stays down for about 10 seconds then comes back on , hooked to mac mini . Any idea how to repair?

What Monitor do you have and how is it connected to the Mac Mini...?

  • Screen switches to blue and then fades back to normal repeatedly

My Mac Pro's screens have started switching to blue and then fading back to show the normal screen contents. Each cycle takes a couple seconds and looks like my Mac thinks it's waking up from sleep. It starts off happening a few times a minute and gets faster until it's happening once every 5 seconds or so. The mouse goes unresponsive just before it switches to blue and then comes back to life when the blue fades out. Interestingly this has been occurring every morning since I started using Snow Leopard; once I shutdown and start back up again it's fine (until the next morning). No messages in the console to indicate what's going on.
Has anybody seen this or do you by chance know what's happening? I power off the monitors at night but leave the system on (not sleeping), so it's interesting that it seems to happen every morning, about 15-30 minutes after I start using it.
    Thanks,
    Adam

Nah, I'm on latest Snow Leopard version. I think the issue is actually RAM as I installed 8gb worth on top of the 4gb I already have in the Mac Pro at teh weekend. Rise B was not seated right at first so I had to open it up and re-seat it - it then showed all 12gb
I've just had a look and it's showing Riser B as empty for some reason again!! I know it's not the memory itself but for some reason this whole board does not want to go back in properly - grr!!
Will try again in a mo and see if it makes a difference
As it happens while i get the same result as you do with the blue blinking I have a few minutes in between each fade to blue and back again! AND it closes all applications at same time too!

    Hi, beth.lau.gr.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand you have been experiencing issues with your iPhone restarting and showing you a blue screen.  I wont be able to give you an exact answer as to why this is happening.  However, this is the most relevant troubleshooting article for this issue.  This article also provides options to reach out to us via phone for additional assistance.

    Hi
    What I'm saying is:
Make a new MONO audio track (use the + button). Assign it to input 1
Make a second new MONO track, assign it to input 2
Name both tracks, record-enable both tracks, and record.
You could, of course, make both tracks in one go via the new track dialog box, and hav ethem automatically assigned to ascending inputs.

  • MB screen goes blk then comes back. A1181 model - inverter? LCD?

    hello
I have got a late 2006 A1181 black MB. It works fine..until recently over these past few months the screen goes black...then it comes to life again.
If I turn it on....it could sometimes be black...then I leave it and after a few mins it comes back to life.
Yet other times, I can power on and its fine.....
Then the other day it flickered so much on/of/on/off....
I have done the resets as suggested online....to no avail.
-you can still see the desktop if you shine a light on the screen when it goes black.
-The screen doesnt flicker if I open and close the laptop lid up and back ....
How do I know if its the inverter or the actual whole entire LCD screen thats failing?
Im in no position to pay  £75 to have it looked at by someone at my local apple retailer.
And yes its still a really good little machine. ...and Im not looking to change it. Just now confused...shall I buy a new LCD or inverter? Ive seen the tutorials online and I think I could do those fixes myself...
Any help and advice would be great, thanks.
    Caroline

So I did a clean install of 10.7.5 and for a day the machine had no issues. Then I used Migration Assistant to import the owner's user account. I logged into their account, deleted the temporary account I made, then rebooted. After that I tested it, and the screen DID go black on wake again.
Based on all this, I'm thinking the problem has to be some random corrupt file. Something possibly sleep related, or possibly display related. I'm going to have to investiage that avenue next. Any ideas what software issues might cause this kind of problem? In other words, what preferences files may be causing it?

  • Logon screen / wake up problems have come back

Hi, I've got a first generation macbook.
Originally, I had a lot of problems when waking up my macbook.
    1) I'd use it
    2) I'd close the lid for some time (hours) which sends it to sleep
    3) I'd open the lid and either nothing would happen, or I'd enter my login credentials then the screen would just go blank.
    4) The only cure would be to close the lid again for 20 or 30 seconds then repeat steps 3) and 4) until I logged in and the macbook was usable again. Sometimes I even had to hold down the power button to force a reset.
These problems disapeared but now they've come back.
Does anyone have any ideas please? (and re-installing the OS doesn't count)
    Thanks,
    Tom

What do you have against reinstalling the OS?
You can Archive and Install without losing any data whatsoever. I see that you have only updated to 10.4.8 unless maybe you have just not updated that info in you Apple Discussions info.
This may not be for everybody but what I do with every computer I own is two things:
    1) I have an external backup hard drive that I make a periodic clone of the computer's hard drive.
    2) I partition my computer's hard drive into more than one drive and use one of them as a clone of the main drive.
This way I always have the ability to do an update of any kind to my drive but without taking any risk of messing up it's pre-update state of affairs. I can always clone it back to where it was using one of its clones.
The idea is to put yourself in a position such that you cannot get screwed by doing a re-install or an update, or experimenting with risky software or ideas for fixing problems by deleting certain programs or any number of other things of this nature. Having only one copy of your computer's hard drive is a very risky way to operate, but it seems to be the norm by a large margin.
