Qosmio F10: black screen at booting - No Toshiba screen

Help,
my F10 is totally stuck and doesn't run anymore. After starting, the display stays black and the fan begins to run wildly, after a while the toshiba sound comes up but nothing else happens. No windows, nothing at all, only the wild running fan of the notebook.
Before this happened I shut down the computer normally. We have about 26 or 27 degrees celsius in our office room today, but I didn't register any overheat in my computer. Something strange: I registered since a few days, that after having started, only the toshiba sound came up but no symbols of toshiba on the screen as usual.
My question is: what can I do?

I have just had the same problem with my F10, it was still under warranty so Toshiba picked it up and said they had to replace the motherboard, it was a quick service 5 Days, but I am glad I didn't have to pay for it, i've heard it's about £500.00 to replace the motherboard.
I hope it doesn't keep happening again. When my F10 packed up, it was a hot day as well, I had it on a glass coffee table, went to make a cup of tea and when I came back it was a black screen with the fan constantly running.
Let us know what you have done with yours.

  • Laptop wont boot past Toshiba screen

I have the Satellite c855-s5123. I shut it down and when I went to turn it back on it wouldn't boot past the initial startup screen. The Toshiba screen came on, it said it was repairing (i believe that was the word it used) the C: drive. It began counting up with % until 100% then went on to the blank screen (mine is pink) that always comes up when booting up. After that it turned black, then blue back and forth and never went on to boot like normal. I don't know anything about computers. The only thing I did after this was press control alt delete...when I did this a message came up that said "the instruction at 0x04fe9006 referenced memory at 0x0000001d. the memory could not be written" and an "okay" box to click. i clicked okay and it went back to switching from blue to black blank screen. I turned it off and on once again and this time it didn't have the repair C: it just went to the Toshiba screen then straight to the black and then blue once again. I have only had my laptop about 8 months and I take perfect care of it. I have no idea what is going on. And as I said earlier, I know nothing about computers. Any help would be appreciated!!

  • Satellite M40 - 129 stops booting after Toshiba Screen

    Hi,
my M40 sometimes stops booting after the Toshiba Screen. It stops and all I can see is the flashing cursor. No Error-Message or something else and normal booting from HDD. Booting from CD (eg. Knoppix) works. This problem only occurs sometimes and isnt traceable for me.
    Best Regards
    Spoony

    Hi Spoony
Unfortunately on this way it is not easy to say why this happen. Every user has individual OS configuration and we dont know how your OS is configured.
Can you start OS in safe mode? If yes check a little bit what the problem can be. If there is nothing that you can do I recommend you to save all your data and preinstall unit using recovery media. If you do this I also recommend you to create two partitions.
Dont compare WXP and Linux booting procedure. Like you know Knoppix uses just RAM and not HDD for running.

  • Gray screen after boot and blue screen with stripes

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro Mid 2011 with Mavericks (came with Snow Leopard).
    History:
One day i was working and things were too slow. I tried to restart but it was taking too long to close all the programs. So I forced shut down by holding the power button. When I turned it on again, my problems begin.
    Problem:
The Apple logo and the spinning wheel appear. After a while, both disappear and it freezes at gray screen. Some solutions I tried make the screen goes blue with black vertical stripes. In both cases, I have to force shut down.
    Solutions I tried:
    - Reset NVRAM
It does reset, but nothing change
    - Log in my Windows partition. I can't log
    - Hold option key and choose recovery. Blue screen
    - Recovery system by restart and press Command-R. Blue Screen.
    - Safe boot by pressing Shift. Blue Screen
    - Verbose by pressing Command-V. Restart and gray screen again.
    - Single-user mode by pressing Command-S
         Tried to reapair hard drive:
              /sbin/fsck –fy
Returns the message "** The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK.". I restart and nothing change.
         Tried to change startup permissions:
              mount -uw /
              chown root /
              chmod 1775 /
              exit
         Restart and nothing change.
    - Boot from a bootable USB flash drive
Holding option key, I choose my flash drive with Ubuntu installed. It gives me 3 options: Use Ubuntu without installing, Install Ubuntu, Repair Disk      Errors (something like that). The 3 options go to the blue screen
Flash drive with Mavericks. Blue screen.
-Boot from my Snow Leopard CD. Gray screen, restarting, gray screen.
I don't what else I can do. Is it a hardware problem? At first I thought it was some corrupted file. But is it a GPU or logic board problem? What else can I try?

I found this to work at least to get in and backup some files. It is VERY important to put these commands in EXACTLY as seen here, including spaces.
Boot into Single-User mode (Command-S while booting up)
    Execute the following commands:
    /sbin/fsck -fy /
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    mkdir /Disabled_System_Library_Extensions
    cd /Disabled_System_Library_Extensions
    mv /System/Library/Extensions/ATI* .
    mv /System/Library/Extensions/AMD* .
    touch /System/Library/Extensions
    exit
I guess these two graphics extensions go bad quite often on Macbook Pro 15-inch.  They are part of the logic board. The only problem I had was I still couldn't get into my computer any other way, and the graphics for Safari were messed up.  Firefox was okay.  Good Luck!

  • Black Screen on boot- Toshiba Satellite M70

    Dear all,
I have Toshiba Satellite M70, I need help and i will describe my problem:
    - Few days ago my screen went black suddenly, i don't know how cause i was away from the laptop.
    - Until yesterday, when i boot my laptop, it gives me black screen all the time but when i put him in standby mode by closing the notebook for few seconds and then i click the on button, my screen starts displaying fine until my next reboot and i start all over again ( i usually keep my notebook working almost 18 hours which means there's a lot of time to my next reboot)
    - But Today, I booted too many times , it gives me black screen and the standby mode doesn't work anymore. But few times today when i was trying to boot, the screen displayed the Toshiba screen for only 1 second then gone black again.
P.S. You can see hardly threw the black screen everything if there is a sunlight facing the laptop.
    Thank you in advance,
    Best regards,
    Mr. Mher Krikorian

    > You can see hardly threw the black screen everything if there is a sunlight facing the laptop
    This is very useful info
I think the issue is related to the FL inverter
The FL-inverter is a small part which controls the display backlight.
If this part starts to malfunction then you would see everything like behind a thick fog
In my opinion the FL inverter should be checked and replaced if necessary
For that you have to get in contact with an local service technician
    Greets & happy new year!

  • Qosmio F10: Monitor screen looks like an Andy Warhol picture

I am currently having problems with my monitor screen looking like an Andy Warhol picture. I have resorted to going through the Product Recovery DVD-ROM for my Qosmio F10/G10 Laptop in the hope that reverting it back to the factory settings would solve the problem but it hasn't.
The screen breaks down after the Windows welcome screen, leaving me with my desktop all Andy Warhol like (i.e. blocks of pixilated colour at the edges of the graphics). I have tried to reset the resolution which solves the problem to an almost acceptable level but on a temporary basis, because the problem re-appears again when I re-boot the laptop.
I think that it is something to do with the Windows Multimedia Operating system that was preinstalled on my computer (so no recovery disc). The reasoning behind this assumption is that I put a DVD film into the Multimedia that is part of Windows XP and the film is a moving Andy Warhol video.
I put the same DVD into the WinDVD that came as a Toshiba additional content and the DVD is perfect! My reasoning is, that if there was something wrong with the hardware of the Laptop, then all DVD reading programs would react the same way, but as they do not, it must be a programming (or operating system problem).
Am I on the right lines? Is there a way to solve the problem via a downloadable file?

Thanks guys for your replies, sorry if my question is confusing, but I couldn't think of any other way of describing it without the use of a screen dump to show you.
At the moment I haven't got another monitor to try, even though this looks as though it would have been the easiest option. I shall start asking round to see if I can borrow one to eliminate that variable.
However I will try to reinstall and to update "Graphic Drivers" to get rid out of this display problem.
    Thanks to all.

  • Laptop will not boot, stops at Toshiba screen then an error message. Can't access BIOS

I receive the following error message:
For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v2.2.7(11/02/10)
    Check cable connection!
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
Before it first shut down, there was some blue screen with a message I was unable to read in time. I turned it back on and got the above message. I have done some research and it sounds like some kind of hard drive problem. I've checked the hard drive connection and it's fine, the same message appears. I also saw that you can access BIOS(not sure what this is exactly, I've never used it) and then somehow recover, reset or change a boot setting that may have changed by itself. I can't access it though. I have tried F8, I have tried pressing escape as soon as the red Toshiba screen comes on, and also tried holding it and releasing when the tone sounds, then pressing F1 but all I get is a tone and no screen.
It's about to be finals week and I really need some help getting this fixed...preferrebly without having to by a new hard drive because all kinds of homework, papers and study info is on this computer. I haven't even had it for two years yet. I can attach a picture of the screen if needed but it's just a black screen with the above message.
    Thanks for any help!
EDIT: Satellite L655-S5150 and Windows 7
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It does sound like a hard drive related issue, be it a virus, or physical failure.  If you have fast boot enabled, you will need to hold down F8 while you power up, as just tapping F8 at the BIOS splash screen will not work.  If you are unable to recover that way, hopefully you created recovery media when you first got the laptop(it would have prompted you in the action center).
If that was not done, you could always swap in a new hdd to get the system up and running, and get a eSATA to USB cable to get all of your info off your old drive.

  • Qosmio F10: USB-Boot needed.

    Hi all
I have an Toshiba Qosmio F10 series.
I need the ability to boot from usb stick.
As toshiba-BIOS doesn't offer a USB-boot option, I want to ask if someone knows a
way how it will be possible.
    Thanks in advance to all!

    @r2d2
    thanks for your answer.
One possibility is to use the usb-boot-fdd to redirect to the stick
(means to create a boot-disk which has usb-drivers and checks the devices (stick or hdd/DVD ) for a bootable syste)
do you know how to create such a floppy-disk?

Win 7/Z580: Black screen on boot up, before login screen?
    =======================================
I find some interesting posting in this forum. Thanks for keeping this forum to help windows/Lenovo community. I like to pick up the brain of this forum to resolve the black screen issue. I am not sure, whether it caused by virus. I use Microsoft Security Essentials. I am not able to run this in command prompt.
I started my laptop this morning & login screen showed up. Once I entered my login credentials, I heard the sound that usually plays once a login is successful, but I ended up with a black screen. After this occurred, I had to hold down the power button to manually shut down the computer. Once I started it up again, I was prompted to do a system repair, which eventually ended up with all successful outcomes, but I now have a black screen with a cursor before the login screen now. I have no idea what caused this to happen. My laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad Model Z580 (500 GB HD, 6GB RAM).
I am not able to get into safe mode or any other mode, which all leads to a black screen described above. I am able to use the "Repair Your computer" tools after pressing F8 during booting only . All other options leads to Black screen with cursor in the middle
Last Known Good Configuration leads to same
Enable Low Resolution Video (640x480) leads to same My Z580 is not responding to CTRL+ALT+DEL Windows Logo keys as well.
**** I tried SAFE Mode. It loaded couple of drivers and paused at CLASSPNP.SYS load. It went to Black screen with cursor at center.
I am able to invoke control pannel from Command prompt of working PC by typing control.
Z580 PC is not responding to control from command prompt (under Repair Your computer)  either.
Z580 is able to use the "Repair Your computer" tools after pressing F8 during booting .
Under local user login it provided Start Repair option. As I pick this option, I got the following. Problem signature

    2 -

Under Admin user login, it provided system recovery options. It is not picking up the recovery point created a while ago.
Windows Memory Diagnostics is not launching and shows a black screen without cursor.

  • Qosmio F10 does not boot up system missing or corrupt

I've got a Qosmio F10, and I use all the right procedures for PROUDCT RECOVERY DVD-ROM.
I have done all the updates drives necessary as well , but when I switch on the laptop came with a message error:" \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:"
So, now my computer start with boot options, but whatever you choose the system boot again and again...
    What to do??? Please.

Hmmm usually after the usage of the Toshiba recovery CD everything should run ok.
I read on some computer expert websites that this issue could be related to the hardware fault. Maybe the HDD or the memory module is corrupt.
I would firstly recommend formatting the whole HDD (delete also all partitions).
    Then install the OS again.
If it will not solve this issue you could check if its possible to install XP from the original Microsoft CD.
Additional you could check the memory modules. Try to remove one and use only one or replace it with a new one.
But please note that these are only my suggestions and Im not 100% sure if these proposals will solve you problems. Anyway its worth a try

  • Qosmio F10-124 - Pixelated screen, flicks into blank, then comes back to normal

It looks like the graphics hardware has failed on a pc bought in April 2005.
This occurred in stages, starting from around the time when I received
    1) An automatic download of windows updates and
    2) And Adobe upgrade.
In Sept 07. Do not know if this is at all related with the screen malfunctioning.
The screen has at best operated intermittently, with only access being possible using the external VGA port.
The latest Toshiba screen drivers for the WMD operating system did not rectify the problem.
In the last couple of days pixilation has occurred in various parts of the External monitor screen, whilst the laptop was just blank, up to that point the external screen was displaying my work just fine. Occasionally the laptop screen flicked into life and the pixilation has become more prevalent recently. The occurrences of the laptop screen working were random.
I need to have the screen settings such that the external monitor is a mirror of the Laptop screen to do anything on the laptop.
Rebooting the PC has no effect.
The latest symptoms are that the external screen shows that the OS has booted, but there is an alignment problem causing a pattern to appear across the screen, and this is "ghosted" ?? with several iterations of all screen events across the width of the screen output. The Laptop screen is not working at all at present.
Anyone have any ideas what could have caused this, and/or how to fix it??

The graphic card chip seems to malfunction. Your described issue sounds really like a chip fault
But please note that this is only my personal assumption and if you want to be 100% sure whats wrong then you will have to contact the service provider in your country for a detailed check.
In worst case the motherboard must be replaced because the GPU chip is fixed on the motherboard and cannot be removed.

In what DIMM slots did you insert your memory?  I just got and at this moment building a new computer with a 970.
A horrible experience I had with my last build reminded me of it.  My board was am MSI A88XM-E45.  DIMM1 is blue, DIMM2 is black, DIMM3 is blue, & DIMM4 is black.  When using two sticks of RAM, it says to install one on DIMM1 & the other in DIMM3 (Makes sense... After all, it's color colored that way).
Well it would not boot.  I reseated every component and for HOURS tried almost everything.  Finally I decided to place my two sticks of RAM in the first two DIMMS and viola!
I think I will begin this build the same way.
