Qosmio F10 Boot Screen problem

I have a 2 yr old Osmio F10 notebook that just went wrong. I used the laptop last nite and was working just fine. This morning when i turned it on i heard a rattling sound from hard disk so i turned it down and switch on again and still it was make noise. So again i shut it down and to my suprise it was not working beyond the Qosmio logo screen. Its saying some IDE #O Error. I tried to use the recovery disk but it is saying worng machine. I feel it is not regonizing my hard drive. I have lot important documents in my hard disk and dont want to lose. I really dont understand what the problem is.
Your answers are much appreciated!

Sorry to say, but it sounds like the HDD has crashed. IDE #0 error is a bad sign. It means the machine cannot initialize the HDD. The rattling means the heads could be damaged.
If the files are very important to you, you can send the HDD to a Data Recovery specialist. They can recovery the data, but it will be expensive.
Remember that a HDD should never be relied on. They have mechanical parts and can crash at any time. Its important to backup your data to CD/DVD/USBKey/SD/Tape on a regular basis.

  • Qosmio F10: Monitor screen looks like an Andy Warhol picture

I am currently having problems with my monitor screen looking like an Andy Warhol picture. I have resorted to going through the Product Recovery DVD-ROM for my Qosmio F10/G10 Laptop in the hope that reverting it back to the factory settings would solve the problem but it hasn't.
The screen breaks down after the Windows welcome screen, leaving me with my desktop all Andy Warhol like (i.e. blocks of pixilated colour at the edges of the graphics). I have tried to reset the resolution which solves the problem to an almost acceptable level but on a temporary basis, because the problem re-appears again when I re-boot the laptop.
I think that it is something to do with the Windows Multimedia Operating system that was preinstalled on my computer (so no recovery disc). The reasoning behind this assumption is that I put a DVD film into the Multimedia that is part of Windows XP and the film is a moving Andy Warhol video.
I put the same DVD into the WinDVD that came as a Toshiba additional content and the DVD is perfect! My reasoning is, that if there was something wrong with the hardware of the Laptop, then all DVD reading programs would react the same way, but as they do not, it must be a programming (or operating system problem).
Am I on the right lines? Is there a way to solve the problem via a downloadable file?

Thanks guys for your replies, sorry if my question is confusing, but I couldn't think of any other way of describing it without the use of a screen dump to show you.
At the moment I haven't got another monitor to try, even though this looks as though it would have been the easiest option. I shall start asking round to see if I can borrow one to eliminate that variable.
However I will try to reinstall and to update "Graphic Drivers" to get rid out of this display problem.
    Thanks to all.

  • HP Mini110-1192EO will not get passed F9/F10 boot screen

This problem relates to an HP MINI110-1192EO purchased in Sweden little over a year ago and is therefore out of store warranty.
    1) The HDD crashed and has been replaced.
    2) Installation by recovery from HP Partition is thuis impossible and installing Windows 7 Starter from install media fails.
    3) Windows XP Retail install fails with BSD (Blue Screean of D.)
    4) Installing Linux Ubuntu 11.04 LTS 32 bit worked, then failed on language install hanging on boot screen as described above AGAIN.
    5) Replaced and checked disk, and now I cannot select F9 to boot from CD/DVD or USB
    6) Nor can I select F10 to enter bios.
    7) Unplugged battery to CMOS / BIOS and reset the whole thing. Got the time reset and now it still hangs on boot screen showing F9/F10 all the time without the 5 sec. timer ever coming up.
Had to unplugg battery pack and run ONLY on main power cord to be able to get this far even.
Before this it only showed the HP circular logo and not even F9 / F10 option.
So is this now nothing more than a piece of gloryfied plastic sinker or is there a recovery for the machine at all in sight?

Its a hardware issue, possibly memory but may be a bad motherboard.

  • Qosmio F10;Blank screen on start up

Approx one week ago my notebook started up with the screen not working.Strange!Everything appeared to be running fine, power lights on hard drive whirring away etc but nothing visual. After much reading of the manual I pressed FN key and f5 and the screen appeared. There is now however a noticeable difference in the picture quality.( Fonts seem slightly blurred ) Each time notebook turns on I no longer get the qosmio graphic appearing and screen is black for approx 30 seconds before desktop appears.I also noted that when I ran the Qosmio presentation a white strip approx 50 cms wide appears vertically down right hand side of screen similar to a wide vertical taskbar.Notebook is only 10mths old still under warranty and with "very low mileage"Mostly used for wireless internet access. Any help would be very welcome, thanks in advance.

    Alcahest.
Thanks for the info. You are correct I was running in clone mode but still having problems
The 3 options I have for display are single display,Clone or Dual view. The screen will not come on ,on restart, in single display with the tft selected, and will only appear in either of the other two options when I press fn + f5.I have replied to this post whilst in dual view
Incidentally the qosmio start up screen still not appearing and still get problem when I run the qosmio presentation.Am I doing something wrong ( Is there a physical switch somewhere on the laptop ? )

  • Qosmio F10: black screen at booting - No Toshiba screen

    Help,
my F10 is totally stuck and doesn't run anymore. After starting, the display stays black and the fan begins to run wildly, after a while the toshiba sound comes up but nothing else happens. No windows, nothing at all, only the wild running fan of the notebook.
Before this happened I shut down the computer normally. We have about 26 or 27 degrees celsius in our office room today, but I didn't register any overheat in my computer. Something strange: I registered since a few days, that after having started, only the toshiba sound came up but no symbols of toshiba on the screen as usual.
My question is: what can I do?

I have just had the same problem with my F10, it was still under warranty so Toshiba picked it up and said they had to replace the motherboard, it was a quick service 5 Days, but I am glad I didn't have to pay for it, i've heard it's about £500.00 to replace the motherboard.
I hope it doesn't keep happening again. When my F10 packed up, it was a hot day as well, I had it on a glass coffee table, went to make a cup of tea and when I came back it was a black screen with the fan constantly running.
Let us know what you have done with yours.

  • Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q720 Screen Problem when Tilting

    Toshiba Laptop Qosmio X505-Q720
    Please, help !
The screen goes blank at certain (more than 90deg) angles of the screen with respect to the base of my laptop.
The Web Camera is also not working.
    An external monitor works perfectly.
I assume some connecting cables are loose behind the screen.
Can I fix this issue myself ?

Good job on the diagnosis. Sounds like either a loose cable or the cable is damaged and loses the connection once you tilt the screen too far. My recommendation would be to take it into a Toshiba authorized repair center and get it serviced. A couple reasons, they have the Maintenance Manuals and know how to service the computer and two, they can order the right parts if needed. The reasons for not servicing this yourself is that the LCD screen is an expensive part to replace and these laptops with their small parts can be a problem to work on.

  • Grey boot-screen problem

For a few months now I've been having a problem when starting up my Mac. I use a late 2011, 13 inch MacBook Pro. The issue is that often, when I put the computer to sleep, instead of being able to wake it, either by opening the lid or doing something else to use it, a grey screen has appeared, with a bar at the bottom. The bar is made up of small cylinders all side-by-side, like dominoes I guess. As the bar fills up the little cylinders turn white. Once it's filled, it stops for a moment, and then a low beeping starts from my computer.
I believe there are three beeps, then a pause, then it repeats.
This happens probably 9 times our of 10 for me, and it's really inconvenient. When it happens, I have to hold down my power button to reset the computer, and when I start it back up and log in, it tells me my computer was forced to shut down due to a system error or something like that. I do miss the days I was able to put my computer to sleep and wake it up in a few seconds time.
Does anyone know why this might be happening, and would you have any advice on how to fix it?
    Thanks for the help.
    - Joel.

I believe there are three beeps, then a pause, then it repeats.
RAM problem or perhaps some other hardware issue, if you installed third party RAM, likely one or more of the modules are bad.
Make sure the computer is near or on the Internet, reboot the computer holding the D key down for like it will seem forever.
Eventually the Hardware Test will load, click on the extended test and run it, let it go overnight etc as it will take quite some time to complete, unless it finds something wrong right away.
Write down what it says, anything "MEM" is for memory.
If the RAM is third party, you need to put the factory RAM back into the machine and run another test.
Replace the third party RAM, they usually offer a refund or exchange. I recommend Crucial.com as the best source of tested RAM as they also make it, so it stands to reason they will keep the best for themselves.
If the machine has factory RAM, or the machine is showing other signs in Hardware Test, then make a appointment with Apple.
You have a one year warranty and three years with AppleCare, if out of either, then it's a out of pocket cost of course.
Check your battery status by option clicking on the battery icon in the menu, it might require replacing.

  • Qosmio F10 is always hot

    Hello,
I have Qosmio F10 and my problem is that the fan turns all the time because it is hot. I "am obliged" to put the low and fixed frequency to resolve that. But in normal mode it heats, even if I make only surf on the Web.
What do I have to make?
    Have an idea?

    Hi benlog
In my knowledge the notebooks are high tech machines and many parts in the unit produce a lot of warmness. For example: graphic chip. I dont now how you use the notebook but it is recommended to use it on the desk. On this way the cooling fan can works properly. Secondly a lot of background processes run on the unit. Therefore processor has to work with higher performance and produce more warmness.
By the way, my machine is also pretty warmly.
    Best regards

  • Qosmio F10 does not boot up system missing or corrupt

I've got a Qosmio F10, and I use all the right procedures for PROUDCT RECOVERY DVD-ROM.
I have done all the updates drives necessary as well , but when I switch on the laptop came with a message error:" \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:"
So, now my computer start with boot options, but whatever you choose the system boot again and again...
    What to do??? Please.

Hmmm usually after the usage of the Toshiba recovery CD everything should run ok.
I read on some computer expert websites that this issue could be related to the hardware fault. Maybe the HDD or the memory module is corrupt.
I would firstly recommend formatting the whole HDD (delete also all partitions).
    Then install the OS again.
If it will not solve this issue you could check if its possible to install XP from the original Microsoft CD.
Additional you could check the memory modules. Try to remove one and use only one or replace it with a new one.
But please note that these are only my suggestions and Im not 100% sure if these proposals will solve you problems. Anyway its worth a try

  • Qosmio F10: vertical lines on screen

I am using a Qosmio F10 with a nVIDIA 128MB graphics card. Recently while i was running a graphics based application, my display started showing me wired colours on the screen. I was able to start the game once more but found the same problem to exist.
On restarting, the system was showing vertical white lines on the qosmio startup display, '*' on the bios password screen and green lines on the Windows XP loading screen. I was not able to start-up Windows. Thinking that it would be a S/W problem, I formatted it.
The problem still persists, and I still cannot load Windows XP.
Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my Laptop???

    Hi
This sound like a hardware malfunction and I suppose it could be something wrong with the graphic card or motherboard :(
But do the vertical lines appear on the external monitor? If yes, so it must be a board issue.
In such cases you have got not many possibilities. In my opinion you have to ask the service guys for the notebook check. The technicians from the service partner in your country could run some diagnostic tests and will give you more details about the malfunction.
    Good luck

  • Screen Problem/Will not boot?

My black macbook purchased in 2008 running OS X (10.5.8 I believe) would appear to not be starting up. When I turn it on, the screen flashes and I hear the chime and then it goes black. I'm not sure if this is a screen problem or something else. I can hear something running despite the screen being black. When this first occurred I was watching a video on youtube and I could hear the video still playing and the computer still function but the screen went black. I tried to boot it in safe mode and that did not work. I tried taking out the battery and yet again, that did not work. Is there anything I can do? Has anyone else had this problem?

  • Qosmio F10: USB-Boot needed.

    Hi all
I have an Toshiba Qosmio F10 series.
I need the ability to boot from usb stick.
As toshiba-BIOS doesn't offer a USB-boot option, I want to ask if someone knows a
way how it will be possible.
    Thanks in advance to all!

    @r2d2
    thanks for your answer.
One possibility is to use the usb-boot-fdd to redirect to the stick
(means to create a boot-disk which has usb-drivers and checks the devices (stick or hdd/DVD ) for a bootable syste)
do you know how to create such a floppy-disk?

  • Elitebook 8540w windows 10 ati firepro 5800 drivers problem BLACK BOOT SCREEN

after installing windows 10 most drivers for my laptop works perfectly. however, the video drivers (doesn't matter if it's from auto windows driver update or the latest windows 7 update from HP) the result is the same namely:  I keep getting a black boot screen when I start the PC or reboot the PC. It even happens when the driver installation is complete it for some reason turns black. the only solution is to close the laptop lit , turning it to standby and turn it back on.  Please can anyone help?

I decided to test some more things tonight before rolling back to Windows 7. I seem to have found the same thing as you: Go to Device Manager - Display Adapters - Right click and select Update Driver Software - Browse my computer for driver software - Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer - under Show compatible hardware select Microsoft Basic Display Adapter and click Next. At this point my screen went black for several minutes (5+ minutes) and I couldn't get it to come back on. I then held down the power button to power off laptop. Booted PC back up and it loaded ok. Shut down, rebooted, and hibernated several times and the PC booted back up ok each time WITHOUT getting stuck at the black screen.  Went back and checked in Device Manager and it is using the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter instead of the Intel HD Graphics driver. This appears to have resolved the issue but I'll test some more.

  • Qosmio F10 doesn't run after recovery procedure

Hi, I have just purchased the toshiba recovery dvd for my qosmio f10 laptop, i put the dvd in and it goes through the recovery process and completes 100% it then tells me to remove the dvd and then press CTRL ALT DELETE to restart the computer.
Upon doing so it gets to the screen were it tells me windows is starting then the screen goes blank and flickers a couple of times, then the laptop re-boots and keeps on doing this, I press the F8 key when it restarts to go into save mode, but when it goes into save mode it tells me that windows is not fully set and won't go any further and tells me that I need to run set up again.
I do not have a windows cd only the dvd from toshiba which should put my laptop back to factory settings.
Can aynone help me before I ring toshiba?
    thank you.

    Hi
Its not easy to say why it happens. Usually the Toshiba recovery CD should works properly and after whole recovering procedure the notebook should run without any problems.
You have suggested that you have ordered this recovery CD from the ASP.
Did you get the right recovery CD? Check the CD description.
The other possibility is that the unit has a hardware fault. In this case you should contact the Toshiba service. Sorry but this is all what I can suggest.
