Qosmio F10 - Cannot upgrade BIOS due to illegal version?

While half of me says its not broken, so don't fix it, I am attempting to upgrade my F10 BIOS to latest version, using Windows installer method.
The file I downloaded and extracted tells me it is an illegal BIOS version for my machine, but its the (only) one the Toshiba site provides me.
Any ideas?

May I ask you what BIOS version did you try?
On the Toshiba driver page you could find the 1.20-WIN BIOS.
I have downloaded if from the Toshiba European driver page.
Please note that your original Toshiba OS should be installed to update the BIOS.
But one question; why do you want to update it?
If your notebook runs ok, you shouldnt update the BIOS. Its simply not necessary!

  • Qosmio F10: Cannot setup TV Tuner!

I can't seem to be able to receive any form of TV signal on my Qosmio F10.
I have tried both automatic and manual setup of the TV signal within Windows Media Centre, whilst connected to different aerial points and my satellite receiver, but the software never manages to actually receive any form of signal.
I have checked that each of the cables works correctly by connecting it to a TV, and there is definitely a good signal.
All I can think is there is a problem with my Toshiba TV Tuner hardware (I uninstalled it and rebooted to reinstall the TV Tuner drivers), or possibly the little adapter cable.
    Anyone else had this problem?
    Any ideas??

It would appear that the TV tuner problem I am having is due to a weak signal. Toshiba are working on a fix to improve the TV tuner cards sensitivity, but a lot of the problem seems to be with Media Centre, which is very region specific and doesnt seem very flexible to me.
So I bought a FreeView digital terrestrial TV box (a nice, small Nokia one!) and a SCART-composite adapter. I also bought a WinTV USB2 TV tuner. I have since spent many happy hours testing different setups! Here are my findings (it's been quite a project!)
Analogue Aerial to the TV Card via RF Cable & Dongle:
Qosmio mode - Picks up three of five analogue channels with varying picture quality.
Media Centre - Doesn't find anything! Manual tuning results in no picture and intermittent sound. Unable to use Media Centre without infra-red receiver and remote (which is very annoying!)
Digital Satellite to the TV Card via RF Cable & Dongle:
Qosmio mode - Needs to be told not to skip the channel for some reason, but results a fairly good.
Media Centre - Doesn't detect anything, but able to manually enter the channel number and get reasonable results (as long as the infra-red receiver and remote are set up!)
Digital Satellite to Graphics Card via SCART-Composite Cable & Adapter:
Qosmio mode - Finds nothing (obviously only looking for an aerial connection)
Media Centre - Finds signal automatically. Best results so far for video, but doesn't work with the audio... The sound is sent straight to the sound-card, then processed via Media Centre and sent out again with a slight delay. This results in the sound being constantly repeated, which is rather annoying!!!
FreeView to TV Card via RF Cable & Dongle:
Qosmio mode - Finds FreeView signal fairly easily, plus three analogue channels!
Media Centre - Will only find FreeView channel by entering channel number during manual setup.
FreeView to Graphics Card via SCART-Composite Cable & Adapter:
    Qosmio mode: Finds nothing.
    Media Centre: Also nowt (surprisingly!)
Analogue Aerial to USB Port via WinTV:
    Qosmio mode: Doesn't work!
    Media Centre: Nope!
WinTV2000: Wow! Best picture so far. Also manages all five channels (our TV can't even get Channel 5!)
Digital Satellite to USB via WinTV:
Qosmio and Media Centre are no go.
    WinTV2000: Good results.
    Freeview to USB via WinTV:
Qosmio and Media Centre are still non-runners.
WinTV2000: Very good - FreeView works, plus all five analogue channels are available.
I hope this helps in some way. I'm sure you've already drawn your own conclusions...

  • Cannot upgrade BIOS on Satellite P30-145

    Hi anyone,
just inherited a P30-145 notebook, cannot upgrade the bios. When I run the file, I get the message" bios upgrade rom wrong size!"and then the installer shuts off. How do I upgrade? I'm doing everything right according to the website.
Just one thing, the original restore disk was not available, so I installed a standard XP and upgraded drivers as necessary from the Toshiba site.

    Hi
Try the BIOS 1.40 from the Toshiba US driver page:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/downloadDetail.jsp?soid=1236378&pf=true
The BIOS is for Satellite P30 PSP30U. It the same series like the European notebook series PSP30E.
Download the exe file and save it on desktop. Then create an folder and unzip the sp35v14.exe file to this new created folder.
Now go to this folder and inside this folder you will find some files.
Read the readme.txt file to get full instruction how to update the BIOS.

  • Qosmio G30 (PQG32E) - upgrade BIOS problem

I try to use this bios-20080424160754.zip downloand from notebook support but when start tell me " this compute is not support " .... same help to upgrade firmware.

You will have to execute the BIOS setup with administrator rights. This can be easily done by right-click on the setup and choosing "Run as...". There you can chose whether you execute the file as the registered user or as another (like administrator). If you set an password during the installation then you will have to type it in the following screen, if not then the setup will continue and the BIOS will be updated.
    Thats everything..

  • Cannot upgrade pacman due to conflict with package-query [SOLVED]

Package query 0.9 requires pacman <4, package-query 1 requires pacman >=4, therefore I am totally unable to upgrade, even using pacman -f
I'm aware that package-query is unsupported software, but this seems a bit stupid to me! Am I to uninstall package-query and therefore yaourt, only to reinstall them by hand, or is there a safe workaround?

    Or, realistically, 5 minutes.
But if that is too much for you to spare, rather than bemoaning the fact that the developers have spent a significant amount of time and effort on this upgrade that will cause you such inconvenience, you could just install another distro - that would probably eat a day.
Every other distro I've tried is inferior and eats up far more frustration time than Arch, which is why it's now on all my machines. I'm still putting off upgrading my 4 machines, though - because painful recent experience tells me that the chances of all 4 getting through this without day-eating breakage is about 6% (If you want a laugh at my expense, see this woeful example of breakage https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/27385). And yes, I'm aware that the longer I put it off, the worse my chances get.
    Edit:
    machine one (netbook).
Time taken so far: 44 minutes (inc reading up on a few errors, plus line-by-line comparison of rc.conf.pacnew, reboot plus check of basic system workiness, plus waiting unsuccessfully for package-query source to download).
Status: yaourt uninstallable (package-query git server appears to be down), openjdk6 broken due to bug, system otherwise appears healthy.
Prognosis: Total 90 minutes for 4 machines seems a reasonable (optimistic) estimate, but I'll further put the other machines off until package-query git server is back up and running.
And many apologies, this has veered somewhat off-topic and off-forum. I will probably make this my last post and let it die.
Further edit: How do I mark a thread as SOLVED? I can't see an option anywhere, or any way to edit the thread title!
edit: Nevermind, the trick is to edit the first post in the thread, it would seem.

  • Qosmio F10 - cannot install WXP with new HDD

My F10 doesn`t start from hard disk anymore and because of the obvious sound from the hard disk it is certainly broken. I have changed the build in Toshiba hard disk with 80GB for a Toshiba hard disk with 60GB.
I put a Windows XP Installation disc into the drive and pressed C at the start for booting from the CD. It doesn`t start the installation but instead it says that I have to remove the hard disc.
Why? Is it only possible ti install an identical hard disc because there is no bios?
    PLZ HELP!!!

    Hi
Is your new HDD recognized in BIOS properly?
    Check this!!
Furthermore when you get exactly the message from Windows installation and what will be displayed exactly?
Can you try it with Toshiba recovery disk, please?

  • Cannot upgrade BIOS on dv9287cl

I have tried to upgrade the BIOS on my 9287 and it fails to upgrade.  The Winflash program loads and when it puts up the status window to show the progress it proceeds to the Flashing part, the fan revs up and then the machine shuts off completely.  I have to turn on the machine manually.  It comes up after showing the safe mode startup options and works fine, but the BIOS still remains at F.13.  I have tried the latest "F.2D" and tried the oldest "F.15".  Both do the same thing I described.
    Thanks

  • Cannot upgrade itunes due to error " c:program files|quicktime h264"?????

I just got myself a brand spanking new ipod, my husband has an older nano and uses itunes our computer. Itunes did not recognize my new ipod and said i had to upgrade to version 9. but when i try to download the upgrade i get an error message saying ERROR WRITING TO FILE: C:PROGRAM FILES\QUICKTIME\QTSYSTEM\QUICKTIMEH264.RESOURCES\NL.LPROJ\QUICKTIMEH264LOCALIZE DQTR.VERIFY THAT YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THAT DIRECTORY.
what the **** does that mean??? ive been on the computer all day dying to use my new ipod, have uninstalled itunes and quicktime but still it gives me the same error message. can someone please help, im going crazy, im desperate!!!!!

Yeah, there's anothe workaround we can try ... it doesn't fix the damaged files/folders, but it convinces the installer to ignore them and create new ones (instead of getting hung up trying to remove and replace the damaged ones).
In My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Program files" folder.
    Open the "QuickTime" folder.
    Open the "QTSystem" folder.
    Open the "QuickTimeH264.Resources" folder.
    Rename the "nl.lproj" folder nl.lprojOLD.
Now try another install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Cannot install update due to old version. what to do?

Can't install new quicktime version needed for IPOD touch App, due to inability to uninstall older version on PC.  Can't even find older version... There is Apple update software, however. Could this be fouling things up? Should I jettison that and try new install?

Okay. Just in case it's installation configuration trouble, we should try the Windows Installer CleanUp utility.
Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Cannot install quicktime due to newer version already installed

I'm in desperate need of help. I've been trying to install Itunes for the last 4 nights but QUICKTIME is messing it up. I keep getting the error that a newer version of QUICKTIME is already installed and the installation can't continue.
I've been scouring the internet for hours over several nights to find a solution without luck.
There is no entry in the Programs uninstaller for Quicktime.
I've scoured all my HDs for quicktime and removed all entries
I've run several reg cleaners and regedit to clean out any reference to Quicktime
I've used the 'how to uninstall quicktime' support page and used the MS install cleanup utility, cleaned out temp files, used JV Powertools to clean out Quicktime.
I've used both the standalone installer and the Itunes installer
I've tried using safemode to install but the installer doesn't work in safe mode
I've tried uninstalling several codecs in the chance that they are somehow effecting this
I'm at the end of my rope and both me and the internet appear to be out of ideas. Of course, I need to get Quicktime on to use Itunes and my Itouch.
I'm running a fully updated Vista install. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am having the same problem. I am using Windows XP on an HP Media Center PC m7167c. I have tried everything to fix the issue. Nothing works. HEY APPLE, Can you please fix your QuickTime installer to override the "Newer Version Already Installed" message when there is no QuickTime installed. This problem has been going on for over a year. Please provide an easy alternative way to FORCE INSTALL QUICKTIME. Thanks

  • Have iWork 09 DVD. Cannot upgrade for free to new versions

App Store does not acknowledge that I have the DVD version of iWork. It doesn't even have any serial numbers printed on the DVD or in the sleeve. Is there a way to "tell" the app store app that I have this Apple software? I thought that iWork '09 customers get iWork '13 for free? Apple support wants $19 to answer this question :-( The system recognized other software that were also originally in DVD form (Aperture, iLife '11). Whats with iWork?

I'm using Mac OSX Mavericks in German language - in one of the forums there was a quick solution to my problem: if you change language setting in Mac OSX to English (primary language), then reboot, and then running software update will show you all the updates to your iLife and iWork apps - for free. Nice workaround for those who can't wait.

  • Qosmio F10 - How to reset the BIOS?

i have Toshiba Qosmio F10, I forget password.
Please help me by reset the BIOS.

You cannot reset BIOS on your own and it must be done by authorized personal only.
BIOS password is very important security feature and you cannot expect that BIOS password deletion procedure will be described in public forum.
Contact nearest Toshiba service and they will do this for you.

  • My Qosmio F10 is dead after Bios Update

My Qosmio F10 is dead after BIOS update ... it doesn't work anymore .. i update the bios from 1.10 to 1.20
the switch Led is always orange...
what can i do to make it work again ? or return the 1.10 version?

    Hi
You can check many postings in this forum about the BIOS upgrade procedure.
Mostly the users damage the notebook because of wrong BIOS or wrong BIOS procedure.
If the notebook is dead after this procedure so it could be a damage motherboard.
In this case only the Toshiba service partner can solve this issue. ;(
