Qosmio F55 - Freezing after 20 min idle

Hi and sorry for my English,
When I use it, everything is ok, but after 20 min idle it's hanging, ctrl, alt del no respond, only way to switch off is power button.
I changed VGA driver, disable hard disk switch off, disable screen server, run RAM check, still the same problem.
Any idea what is the problem?

It is not easy to say why this happen. We can just speculate why this happen and your answer can be yes or no.
Maybe you should install Vista again using Toshiba recovery image. Test it with clean preinstalled OS.
I am pretty sure after doing this your notebook wills works well and you will not be faced with freezing issues.
What do you think about it?

  • Turn off Display after x mins idle power setting problem

I have an HP Pavilion TouchSmart 23-f340ea.  Its an all-in-one, so I dont have a button to switch off my monitor/display and I rely on the power settings to do this.  I have it set to switch off after 1 min idle.  I do this as I tend to leave the PC on a lot of the time downloading from the web and activing as a media server for my home.  I dont want the display to be on constantly using electricity and lighting the place up at night.  This has been working fine since I bought the PC a year and a half ago. Just the other day I decided to go ahead and upgrade to Windows 10.  The upgrade process went smoothly and im generally happy with how my HP is performing on Windows 10 with one exception.  The switch off display setting no longer works!  No matter how long I leave the PC idling, the display never switches off.  I also found some apps online that can switch the display off manually when you click them.  When I try this, the display does switch off, but then just switches itself back on again after a few seconds.  Its like something the PC is doing is forcing the display on.  Literally nothing else has changed apart from the Windows 10 upgrade. I have tried a few things like updating my display driver, disabling all devices in device manager from being able to wake the PC, running powercfg.exe to try and identify the process thats causing the issue. So far havnt been able to work it out. If anyone can help me with this it would be much appreciated!  It may seem like a small issue, but it is actually making me think about going back to 8.1!

  • T400 downgraded from Vista to XP resulting in system freeze after 10 min activity

    Hi,
I just purchased a T400 and have gone through the process of (re)grading the OS from Vista Business to XP. From the moment the setup dialogue for XP started (machine name, date, users etc), the whole systems freezes after working the machine for around 10-15 min. First, I suspected it to be a mouse freeze, but I get no reponse from neither the keyboard nor mouse (not sure if it is a complete system freeze or to do with mouse/keyboard drivers). Even the clock in the bottom right corner stops running.
To get the system going I need to force the system to reboot using the power on/off button.
The XP restore disc I used came from Lenovo with the computer, and I have followed the instructions by point. Do any of you recognize this problem? And more importantly, know how to deal with it

    Hi,
I posted a message on the forum 5 days ago, and got no replies.  I agree the  problem description might be a bit vague, so here we  go again:
I recently purchased a T400 (model 2765, 21g) with the XP downgrade option (the MS Windows XP Conversion Kit containing 2 CD's: Lenovo's Rescue &  Recovery plate + XP product recovery plate with SP2). During the installation of XP (the end part where you set up your user) the computer freezes (no response from keyboard). I power the machine off and on again, and the installation continues as it were. I finish the installation and the computer is set. After additional 10 min the computer freezes again in the same style.
I imagine it to be a powermanagement disagreement between MS system and Lenovos powermanagement system, and set every parameter to be always ON and full performance ( I am running on AC). This time the freeze doesn't happen for an hour. I then begin to reinstall the powermanagement drivers and the general drivers for this particular model running XP (from Lenovos drivers Matrix), and now I am looking at two hour before each freeze. That is if I don't plug in any external hard drives (then the system can crash within 15 min or an hour), and we turn a blind eye to the occational freeze after 10 min on the first boot of the day .
At some point I suspected there to be a conflict with the existing SATA drivers that I also have reinstalled for the occation.  Still the system is NOT stable.
And the frustrating thing is that I have no clue why. The sympthom is always the same, complete screen freeze ( I do not know if the system is active behind (no hard drive running)), that can only be cured with a forced boot.
If any of you reconize this, please assist me to a solution. I have by now installed all programs to my liking including all MS updates (SP3 etc), and hope there is a way to get to the core without a complete reinstall (or worse, return to the realm of Vista)

  • Freezing after 20 min of use.

I use this Macbook Pro 2011 daily with 10.8.2 and with no real changes to speak of (ie installing software) i've started experiencing freezes after about 30 min of use.
    Programs start becoming unresponsive
    Beachball appears.
    System freezes until restart.
No crash log as it doesn't actually crash just freezes.
I checked the log and saw that a geek tool couldn't find a file so i shut that down and restarted in case it was the cause. It happened again though and i copied this as the last few messages before i had to restart.
if anyone can shed light on what's suddenly causing this it would be greatly appreciated.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
    Launch the Console application.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • G62 Freezes after 2 mins

    HP G62
    Windows 7 64 bit
G62 started freezing suddenly after having it a year. It consistently froze after 2mins of booting up several times. I log on to safe mode and went on the forum where i took the advice to do a "driver check" for errors. This fixed it temporally to the point that it does not freeze after 2mins, but it has frozen randomly twice in the last two days. What do you suggest?
I havent loaded anything new or done anything different to cause this problem.

In your situation first thing you could do would be to run a diagnostic test from F2 on the startup to make sure your hardware isn't having any issues. Since you can access safe mode it is a big chance that you have a driver or software malfunction. You can access msconfig in safe mode by going to the start menu typing in msconfig in the search field. When another box comes up select on startup tab and disable all. Attempt to reboot into normal windows. If you are able to one or more of your startup prgs are not allowing you to boot. My suggestion then would be a factory reset.
Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!
Clicking the 'Accept as Solution' button is a way to let others know which steps helped solve the problem!

  • Qosmio X775-Q7170 freezes after sleep or idle mode

    Hello,,
I have a Qosmio X775-Q7170, Part Number PSBY5U-03N01P<ES5.0>, running the factory installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Operating System (Service Pack 1).  I have run and installed all Microsoft Updates as recommended (set for automatic download and install).  I run Norton 360 Premier Edition for anti-virus, internet security, performance management/optimization, and back up.
In the last 2 months, my computer has begun freezing up when I wake it from sleep or idle mode.  When this happens, I must perform a hard reboot (by holding down the power button until the device shuts down.  I have tried uninstalling unused programs, I have tried reducing the number of programs that run at start-up.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled my internet security software as well as running Symantec's Power Eraser Root-kit Utility.  I have tried disabling my internet security suite and running other anti-virus scans and registry scans and not found any problems.  I have tried running disk clean up and disk defragmenter.  Viewing my performance monitor, I see that I am running about 43% physical memory usage (6 GB of installed RAM).  I don't typically see high CPU usage.
    Please help me.

Thank you for all the information. One of the common reasons for that sort of thing is a little corruption in the video driver. So let's replace those first. Reboot after installing each.

  • Ios 8.0.2 sync after restore freezes after ipad mini restore

Its unbelievable the kind of buggy releases apple has started releasing off late! this is worse than microsoft!
i have an ipad mini 1st gen with ios 8.0.2, the UI was extremely laggy so i transferred my purchases, backed up and restored my ipad. now the app syncing never ends! it freezes on some or the other app each time i restart the sync. its getting on my nerve. i left it to sync all afternoon and this time it froze on pages (which was the 5th app being synced).
    HELP!

    Try the following:
Try logging out of your Apple ID:
    Settings/iTunes & App Store/(tap your Apple ID)/tap Sign Out
    Next, reset your device:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.
After the reset, sign back in to your Apple ID:
Settings/iTunes & App Store, then sign back in using your credentials
If it doesn't work (I've now heard a couple of replies saying that it does NOT), you'll have to wait for a fix by Apple since this is a system notification.
The other option (which should work) is to restore the device as new (not from a backup), and move your content (data, settings, music, apps, etc) back to the device manually. You'll need a backup your content. This is a pretty big & involved task so you may just want to ignore that badge on your Settings app.

  • Freezes after few mins. + how to enable Turobo mode/Ultra-Turbo

    hello,
    here's my system spec :
    MSI 875P NEO-FIS2R
Intel PIV 2.6 C Ghz FSB800 (Ht enabled)
    2x256 MB DDR400
    Maxtor 80 GB S-ATA 150
MSI Starforce FX 5900 Ultra 256 DDR
    CD-RW 52x32x52
    i have just OC'ed my CPU from 2.6 to 2.8 the default settings were : 203 x 13.0
i have OC'ed the FSB to 215, so now it's 215 x 13.0. i've also tried 231 x 13.0 to have 3.0 Ghz, but that didn't work, i disconnected everything, took out the battery for 15 mins., replaced it and booted again, and everything was normal again. (back at 2.6 Ghz). but i also noticed that i lost all my BIOS settings... . so i just changed everything that i still could remember and turned back to 215 fsb instead off the 231... . now here's the prob : my system runs just fine with the 2.8 Ghz(OC'ed), i have ran some heavy benchmarks and it's all fine and stable, but sometimes my system just freezes, doing nothign, only the fans keep spinning and my monitor just hangs, not black, but with the last image...my question is : does this happen beacuse i OC'ed it or have i forgot to change anything in the BIOS ?? so, is it BIOS-related or OC-related ?
second question : how do i enable the Turbo mode or Ultra-Turbo ?
    greetz

Yes you have to first make sure that you take it nice and easy when you OC, Go up in small steps and stay there for a while, play a game run a benchmark, whatever....You just want to make sure that your PC remains stable and Most important runs COOL ......The one thing that you must change in your BIOS is the DRAM(VDIMM) voltage to 2.7 Volts...That will Most likely stop your Freez-ups....And in order to enable Turbo or Ultra-Turbo....It is on the Frequency and voltage Page at the Top.....These settings are going to tighten up your Memory Timings, so you should start with a Non-Overclocked FSB, And try to enable Fast, or Turbo.....You should do a search on these Subjects in the Forum, as there are Quite a Few......Just remember to go slow and not get greedy, or you might harm your System ...............Sean REILLY875

  • Blank screen after 10 min idling - need to reboot [SOLVED]

I've installed Arch on a Thinkpad Z61M. Everything seemed to go off OK. I have not yet installed X.
After about 12 minutes of inactivity  the screen goes black and I cannot revive it. It is not a total lockup because it still responds to the keys (reboot),
I've tried every key press I can think of and have unplugged and plugged hack the power lead.
I fiddled with entries in logind.conf but no difference. By googling I found some recent references to a kernel bug. Is this a possibility?

As I said originally, I have not installed X yet so there is no xset command.
See https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=157579 - Not exactly relevant but in the same territory.
The 3,8 kernel seems to be buggy; I tried it on my Debian Sid system and various problems occurred, although not this one. There is quite a lot about it on the Debian users' list.
Is it possible to try a different kernel in Arch?

  • Mac Pro freezes after sleep, wont shut down, and 5870 issue

    Hi,
I just got my new Mac Pro 3.33Ghz hexacore a couple of days ago and I've been having some issues with it.
    1) When waking up the comp from sleep and its been cold for a while, the Mac Pro freezes. I can still move the mouse but that's about it. So, I have to do a hard restart. But...
    2) Since last night I'm not able to turn the MP off. When I try to shut it down from the menu it closes all the apps and nothing but the background and dock shows and it gets stuck there. So I have to do a hard restart, but when pressing down the power button it just goes to sleep rather then shutting down, so only way to turn it off is to pull out the cord.
    3) And the last problem I'm having is in bootcamp. When I play games (Battlefield Bad Company 2 or Crysis) the computer freezes after 3 min or so. The screen either turns blue or black and I have to shut it down. I am able to do the hard restart in Windows 7, in fact I just have to press the power button ones and it shuts off correctly.
I'm really frustrated since in the last 2 months I've had 3 iMacs and this MP and all have had problems. My old 20in iMac has been running for a couple of years now and has never had any problem...
Also, if I have to take it to the Apple store, is there anyway a tech can come to my house? I'm tired of going to the Apple store all the time, its a big hassle taking the comp there, plus I don't feel like they're really helping me.
    Thanks for your help!

just wanted to update you guys on what the official stance of OWC is on this situation. I had the same problem like you guys. I have the 240GB OWC extreme pro SSD in my Mac Pro 3,1. When it goes to sleep, and i leave it sleeping for a day -- upon returning, it will freeze up with the spinning wheel of death.
This is what they had to say about it:
"While Sleep will work with our SSDs, there have been reports of system hangs in relation to hibernation mode which is the deep state of Sleep. We suggest not using ANY program that puts your computer into hibernation mode when using an SSD. SandForce is working on this issue and it will be addressed in a future firmware update.
Normal, automatic sleep mode functions perfectly with no issues. But if you need to try and fix the hibernation issue with your Mac revision, please Open up Terminal (Applications>Utilities>Terminal) and go through the following steps:
    Type: sudo pmset hibernatemode 0
    Press: return/enter.
Type: your password when it prompts you to, then press return/enter again.
You have successfully disabled hibernation! Go ahead and exit Terminal.
Also, some have chose to use the application SmartSleep, which is free online. http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/26979/smartsleep
SmartSleep is an application that you can use to set the hibernation mode on your computer.
I apologize for the inconvenience. I sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter and hope you will continue to bear with us as our extreme SSD product line transitions through these evolutions and unforeseen road bumps. Please let us know if there's anything else we may do to help."
--I would like to add that the OWC SSD is great. And since Downloading smart sleep and disabling deep sleep aka hibernate, the issue has been totally resolved. Im pretty sure the terminal entry works just as well. But I liked the added convenience of the other features of smartsleep. So there you go guys.
