Qosmio F60-14U - audio makes cracking sounds
Hi guys, I've just bought a toshiba qosmio f 60-14u with a preinstalled Win7 and I have had some trouble with it.
When I play any audio (music is worse than movies) the sound is permeated with cracking sounds like static, appearing erratically during the play. This happens both with speakers and headphones on. It seems that the problem is internal, but I have no idea if I can do something about it myself. Can you help, please?
Thanks,
engoute
Have you tried to remove the drivers for the sound and reinstall?
I did call Toshiba support prior and was told to do this, but in the mean time the issue had been resolved with the WiFi channel. Has the issue persisted since you purchased the unit or is it a recent thing?
I know I've had issues with Drivers not being installed correctly when setting up new notebooks, this is with all brands as well, people shut the lids or the power goes out are the two main "excuses" I get, I normally do a recovery and it normally fixes the problem.
But first of all I would try the reinstalling the drivers, if you are unsure Toshiba Tech support is really very good, I have never had a bad experience with them here in Australia.

Hallo!
My laptop is HP pavilion G6 1077sr.
it is about 3 weeks old and already it was in warranty and whole mother board was changed, I got it back only yesterday and now I noticed wierd cracking sound in rhythm of HDD indicator flickering.
Please help - I dont know what it means.Usually HDD with a bad/failing heads would make a clicking/cracking sound as you are noticing it on the Notebook. My immediate advice is "BACKUP YOUR HARD DRIVE!" as soon as possible.

Why does Motion 5 audio makes "ticks" sound?
While editing (preview) and also in exported files, it seems like the audio is having trouble synching with the video I hear small ticks sounds randomly. I tried using different FPS when creating a new Project but the ticks sound remains, what is the cause and how can I avoid those ticks sounds?

My Macbook Pro makes cracking sounds
HI! (sorry for my bad english)
When my Macbook pro is warm (normal operating temperture), it begins to crack, but not everytime, only most of the time. That appears when I´m touching/normally using/scrolling the Touch Pad or touch the surface right beside the Touch Pad. (Alway with only little pressure) Also it appears when I touch the small surface between Touch Pad and keyboard. I think it sounds not healthy. What do you think, is this normal? Should I contact Apple???
Would appreciate any help.Call Apple. They are nice people. They will at least confirm that it is with normal operational parameters or it isn't. It never hurts to ask.

ISight makes croaking sounds and produces audio dropouts in recordings
Hi!
This is weird and hopefully not normal?!?
My new iSight made these short cracking sounds (kind of like scratching over sheet of paper) from the beginning.
Once when starting up the Mac and all along during video recording or conferencing.
That alone wouldn't be such a big problem but audio is very weak too, since it produces drop-outs and other weird noise especially during conferencing or even just during skype phoning (no video).
While trying to record that sound (iMic) I found out that its not possible because other Audio In dropped out too, while iSight is croaking :-S
Of course I tried out everything I could and the problem is still there even when the iSight is the only peripheral (USB and FW) on my G5.
ISight is the perfect webcam and makes awesome picture and sound quality besides the mentioned issues. Hopefully I don't have to send it back.
Thanks for your help buddies! How to test your iSight to ensure it is functional should help you find out whether you need to have your new iSight repaired or exchanged under warranty.
If your G5 is otherwise reliable and stable, because you are having the same problem with your iSight when driven by different apps, your iSight, iSight's connecting cable, or your G5s firewire or connections would seem to be the most likely suspects. -

>Have you noticed this behaviour on all games you want to play or just by newest games?
I talking about (Starcraft 2) it was working perfectly before but new the sound lag badly that i disable the music and scape the cinematic part to play it.
>While gaming, do you use your notebook with high performance power plan?
Yes I use it.
By the way: sending DX info is OK but Im 100% sure nobody here will read this. I hope someone read it.
@ Xardas,
I try all the things you just say, and sadly it doesn't work. I have the last display and sound driver and last DirectX, I use the high performance power plan while gaming.
I try Disable AntiVirus/Firewall while gaming but it the same it doesn't work.
thanks. -
Re: Qosmio F60 - sound disappear sometimes
Sometimes without being my laptop in silent mode the sound cannot be heard.
Then I go to the windows bar and after that pressing on mute button to be in silent mode and pressing the same button again then the sound appear.
Does any one have an idea to end this think and to make it works directly.
t
hank you.> and about the system restore can any body give a clear link about how to do it on qosmio f60 win 7
That simple:
Either you will use the HDD recovery or you will use the Recovery disk this disk should be created using the preinstalled software Toshiba recover disk creator.

Thats a problem from my knowledge the ASP would test the notebook with factory settings and if the issue would not appear using factory settings then this would mean that the hardware is ok -
External Usb Audio Card Popping and Cracking sound with Satellite L500
Greetings,
My name is Boyan and I am from Bulgaria and about an year ago I've bought a satellite laptop from the l500 series ( i can not state which exactly is the model at the moment because my computer is not currently with me and on my user manual the only thing which is stated is that it is for L500/L505/ L500D / L505D . But by memory I think it was the Satellite L500D-ST5506 which is currently not at my dispossal because I gave it for repair for the same problem which I will state down below)
The problem with my laptop is that when I plug a Usb Audio card in my laptop I have a cracking sound when live sound is played trough the speakers/headphones from the external card. I've tried numerous audio cards and speakers/headpohnes which work perfectly fine with other computer, including laptops but the same problem keeps on showing up in the headphones/speakers of my laptop when I am using an external audio card to connect them to the laptop.
The problem is prominent only when the sound signal passes trough an external audio card and it is very annyoing since I use my laptop to create music and i've bought an expenssive audio card and speakers which can not be used with the laptop. I've tried 3 models of audio cards:
M-Audio Fast Track Pro
Behringer uca 222
and a simple external 3d sound usb audio card and the problem still appears.
At first I thought that the problem should be software and I should install new drivers although windows 7 automaticaly recognizes and intalls the drivers for the devices and I have sound in them (but with cracks and popps) so i tried using the official drivers sold to me with the audio cards but with no luck: The problem was still there. I tried finding new drivers of the audio cards on the official distributors websited and i've downloaded them but the problem was still there. Then i tried to delete every audio driver on my computer and just use the external audio card for sound but this dint help eighter. I've updated my drivers for my build-in audio card as well but again - no luck.
After that.the frist thing I did when (2 weeks after i bought the laptop) was to contact the store from which i bought my audio card and they stated that the problem may be eighter latency or high voltage from the laptop so they adviced me to try to lower the latency from the settings or to try and see if the problem remains if my laptop is only running on battery. I've tried both things and they didn't help. The audio cards worked without a problem on every other computer I've tried them on except mine. So they said to me that the problem couldnt possibly be from the audio cards .
What I did next was I gave my laptop to the official distributor of toshiba in my country so they can fix my problem. What they said to me was that the problem is caused from the version of windows which was pre-installed on my laptop and that it wasnt compitable with the audio cards (which was bizzar sounding because I've tried them on the same windows and they've worked, just on other computers). So I got back my laptop and changed my operating sistem from Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit to Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64bit to Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 32bit and on all of those versions the problem was there: whenever I activate a Usb Audio Card and audio signal passes trough it I heard cracks and popps. I even tried isntalling Windows XP but the laptop wants spesific SATA drivers for the installation of Windows XP which although i did find - they didnt help me install XP and I didn't want to go in to the BIOS of the computer to try to put a new one and so on because I am not so sure about that and I could lose my warranty so I said to the official repair store for Toshiba in my town to put XP on my computer to fix the problem but they can't because they are not liscened to operate with software which doesn't have a recipt for its purchase ( which i didnt because i bought my windows xp long ago and i've lost the recipt)
I gave it for repair for the second time telling them that the change of my operating system did not solve my problem and what they did was they changed the whole motherboard on my computer, stating that the build in realtek audio device on my computer is not good enough to support an usb audio card or it maybe broken and they have to change the whole motherboard because the build in card is glued to it, so they did that but my problem wasn't solved. They told me that although I am using and external usb audio card the signal still passes trough my internal one and I have to disable it so i tried disabling it trough the control panel but this did not solve the problem and i do not have an option from BIOS to disable my build-in audio card. Another thing which I thought maybe causing the problem is that the two audio cards aren't working on the same bit rate and Hertz so I set both cards to 16 bit 48000hz DVD Quality (Also tried other options on the 3 cards i have) but...the same thing happend.
They told me that this is just my luck and that the build in audio card doesn't support this external audio cards and I should had been more careful when choosing my laptop at first.
I couldn't accept this awnser for several reasons:
1) This audio cards work on lower version of windows and are supported by much older models of Realtek and much older computers (one of them was bought 2000!!!!! and my laptop is from 2010!!)
2) The guys who were fixing the problem apperantley didn't go in so deep in to my problem because they didn't know what actually the problem was they just knew that there is a problem with the audio card and the computer interacting with eachother, they didnt know that there is cracking during live play from the external audio card.
3) I can not accept the fact that Toshiba is manufacturing models with chipset audio cards which can not support a simple external Usb Audio Card. This is totally unacceptable for me and I truly hope this is not the case!
4)They didn't try my audiocards on an other laptop from the same series stating that they do not have one at their dispossal at the moment so I will go tomorrow to a local store and try the audio cards by my self on the same computer in the store.
What I did now was I gave back my laptop for repair asking for a statement of the problem in wrtting with all details of the problem so I can go to court or ask for a new laptop but I will be charged with some money because according to them there is no problem in the laptop and the problem is that my external audio cards arent compitable with the build in internal chipset audio card. If I give my laptop for repair and there is no hardware problem I will have to pay some money. I will do this but I am now mad, since this will not solve my problem and I am loosing time and money.
What I am asking here is, if you can not help me solve my problem and advice me what to do to fix it, please provide me the details of the chipset build in audiocard on my motherboard, so i can investigate if it is compitable with my external audio cards and contact the audio card dealers to ask them for their opinion. Or if you can tell me with what it is compitable with and with what not, it would be great. I personally think that this laptop should have no problems at all with running a simple external usb audio card but I am asking you, if you know something more about that.
If the problem is from the build in chipset then Toshiba is manufacturing (or at least selling) audiocards which aren't at a normal standart but sadly I cant do nothing about it except complain to Toshiba and never deal whith such productgs anymore. In the other case if this is not true, then my laptop has a problem which is different and I will have to go to court with the repair mans for not fixing my laptop or not giving a new one when I have warranty which will not be Toshiba's fault and It will in a way solve my problem.
I hope you understand how Important this is for me and I hope I resolve the problem as soon as possible.
P.S
I would like to state that I am well aware of the grammar mistakes I have made in the text below and I would like to ask for your apologies as I am not a native English language speaker.hi i just like to say i had a similar fault though i would be surprised if it causing yours, but you never know,my fault was my laptop lid, [9 months old] it contains the mic ,and when the lid was in a certain angle crackles could be heard worse when i had my external sound card in, it was a faulty membrane [ lid to body] easily missed by engineer because it was the same angle all the time it happened, good luck, PS you English is very good

Does Qosmio F60-00Y have an Optical Audio Output (toslink\spdif)?
Does the Toshiba Qosmio F60 Australian model have an optical audio output?
Hi
I found this Toshiba page about Qosmio F60-00Y:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums//thread.jspa?messageID=194743
Unfortunately, there is nothing about SPDIF and digital output.
I found some details about European F60 series and didnt find any info about SPDIF
For me it looks like the SPDIF is not available but this is just an assumption -
Whining (bleep sound) Qosmio F60
Hey !
My Qosmio F60 making a very annoying bleep sound. The source of this bleep is approximately the left side of the keyboard under the Q,W,A,S buttons. It's only if the notebook don't have to work hard. If i am playing games or watching TV the sound is gone.
Anybody have the same problem ?
Maybe you can help me out to solve this problem.
Thanks
_specifications:_
Intel Core i5-430M (2,26 / 2,53 Turbo GHz | Front Side Bus : 1.066 MHz | 2nd level cache : 3 MB)
6 GB Ram
NVIDIA | NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with CUDA Technologie>It's only if the notebook don't have to work hard.
Start your notebook, enter BIOS settings and leave it for a while. Can you hear this sound again?
To be honest it is not easy to say for sure what it can be but if you can hear it again and again I think you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. You have new notebook with valid warranty so the repair will be for free.
Some software related issue can be fixed easily but I presume described issue is hardware related issue, so best option is to contact service and ask for help. -
MBP started making a cracking sound
My MacBook Pro 2010 started making a "crack" sound every 10 seconds or so... Like when you connect an audio device, it stops when the volume is off or when the speakers are being used.
In my opinion something is failing on the motherboard, such as a solded connection which is weared out or something...
If anyone has had this problem, please leave a comment ^^ Ill take my Mac to the Apple Store next Monday.
Thank you!Hi,
Please check if the External works fine ? if no this is not really a speaker issue. if yes, it could be faulty speaker or the loose cable etc...
if you wish to open the PC, you may follow steps to download manual and follow removal and rexifing procedure.
Please visit www.hp.com/in and select suport & drivers>Product support and Troubleshooting> type the the complete model of your PC such as dv6-6102tx dv6-3145tx etc... select your computer model (if listed), or select the CTO(such as dv6-6100 CTO) model(which works for whole series) now select the manuals. you have the list of manuals for your PC. download maintenance and service guide.
hope it helps, Good Luck !!!

Qosmio F60 Win 7 clean install plus drivers
Hi
I would like to clean install win 7 64 bit on my F60. I've already worked out how to change my boot sequence, [ with the help of this forum], so I'm ready to format & reinstall. However my concerns relate to reinstalling drivers specific for the F60.... Any advice on this process would be appreciated. Is it a matter of just downloading from [http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/notebooks/qosmio/f60/pqf65a-00y002/download?os=25] & installing as I need. Can this be tricky?
Any thoughts & guidance appreciated
Regards Lantana
Also would like to update bios...is there a step by step process for that too?I have a Qosmio F60 & have done a clean install. I'll run you through the steps.
1. Make recovery disks before doing anything else. It's a good backup should there be any problems & will allow you to return the laptop to "out of the box " state if you want. Once the Recovery disks have been made (about 3 or 4 DVD'S), you can delete the recovery partition, but if you're unsure I would leave it as is.
2. There is a folder containing all your drivers and programs on the C drive. Back it up to DVD or a USB drive.
3. Back up your activation information. I used Token Restore (Google it). Back up your data.
4. Install WIN7, use the advanced option, reformat your C drive. Make sure you install the same Win7 version that came with your laptop (ie Home Premium, Pro ect). Don't enter your activation details at this time, but use Token Restore to do this after installing your drivers. After you install Win7, you'll have basic functionality, ie your mouse touchpad will work, cd drive will work ect. Display will be at a lower resolution.
5. Install drivers & utilities. I installed the following in this order.
Intel chipset driver
Intel turbo boost driver
Intel management engine interface
Intel rapid storage driver
NVIDIA display driver
Realtek audio driver
NVIDIA HD audio driver
Dolby Control Centre
HDMI Control Manager
Realtek LAN driver
Realtech Wireless LAN driver
Bluetooth Monitor
Toshiba Value added package (custom install... I didn't install Zooming Utility)
Ricoh card reader
Synaptics Touch Pad driver
Winbond CIR driver
Yuan DVB Tuner driver
Toshiba Eco Utility (optional)
Toshiba HDD Protection
Toshiba Disc Creator (optional if you have other CD/DVD burning software)
Toshiba DVD Player (optional, it upscales DVD's, but not much improvement over WMP for playing DVD'S)
Toshiba Remote Control Manager
WinDVD BD (for playing blu-ray) & the update downloaded from Toshiba website.
6. Install your own software, antivirus, data, restore your activation information then run Windows Update. Also worth running a good defrag program like MyDefrag or Puran Defrag (both free).
I would install the recently released BIOS update prior all this.
It is possible to trim the installation back even further, but I find this gives me full functionality while removing most of the bloat. I do find this better than simply uninstalling unwanted programs, as some like Norton AntiVirus are almost impossible to fully uninstall.
Hope this helps.

A tiny little cry for help: mic in bootcamp makes me sound like a mouse!
I posted this on the InsanelyMac forum, and I thought I'd post it here too because I'm just that desperate for help... thanks in advance for reading.
I run a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo. When Snow Leopard came out I installed it and partitioned my drive to allow me to run Windows via bootcamp for the purpose of playing Aion with my husband.
The game works fine, although it only works correctly when I'm hooked to my large Dell monitor. The built-in display makes the mouse/cursor not function correctly in-game.
But that's relatively minor... the biggest problem is that the built-in mic, as well as any mic I plug into the Line In, makes me sound like a mouse when I speak. I SO don't want to be known as the squeaky mouse over ventrilo. (The problem occurs in a regular sound recorder too, so it is NOT ventrilo specific).
The audio device is listed as Intel High Definition Audio: Device ID 0x83847680, Audio ID 30 - whatever that means.
When I dive into the Control Panel audio preferences when booted into Windows, the driver is listed as IDT audio.
Audio output seems to function perfectly.
I would sure appreciate help if anyone has expertise or experience with this sort of thing. I'm at a little bit of a loss.
TIA,
JenHey, I had a thought, I don't know if it'll work and won't get the chance to find out until later tonight if I'm not too tired or until later tomorrow.
I think that if the IDT drivers aren't installed in the first place, perhaps the issue can be averted entirely. However, it's going to take a bit of knowledge to do and some patience. The partition will need to be remade entirely so that one may end up with a fresh operating system. When the SL disk is put into the computer, instead of running the full driver setup, pick the drivers directly off the disk by exploring its folders and only install the ones you need. Instead of using the IDT drivers, I believe the SL disk also has Realtek HD audio drivers (if I remember correctly from the last time I looked). My thought is that this manual method can prevent having to deal with the IDT drivers which I believe are part of the issue.
I understand that reinstalling XP is a process in itself, but this is the only solution I can think of. If manually installing doesnt work, my next move would be to use the drivers that come off the Leopard disk instead of the SL disk.
Like I said, this is just a thought I have so when I get to it later I'll let you know how it goes unless you decide to give it a try before me. -
ALSA is not detecting my M-Audio Delta 1010 sound card (x86-64)
Hi
I've been searching Arch forums and googling for my problem but I can't find a suitable answer.
I installed my M-Audio Delta 1010 sound card on this PC but ALSA doesn't get it to work.
Chipset envy24 / ice1712
On dmesg I find:
$ dmesg | grep -i ice1712

However, it is listed on lsmod:

So, what might be causing the probe error -5?
I really need to get this card working! :S
I have Arch up to date!
Hardware specs:
CPU: AMD FX6100
Board: Gigabyte (can't recall the model) with NVidia chipset
Thank you,I have an m-audio delta 1010lt as well, it's a great card but it sits in my closet now because I "upgraded" to a motherboard that doesn't have legacy PCI slots. However, I'm pretty sure I remember the card working for me and being "plug and play" under arch with kernel 3.3 or newer. So some things I would consider:
Try checking IRQs, make sure nothing is overlapping.
Try using the LTS kernel, to see if it is kernel related, since ice1712 module should ship with almost any kernel => 2.6.26.
How many watts is the power supply? Sometimes insufficient wattage can result in drivers failing to load.
What other sound cards do you have installed? Have you tried blacklisting all of the other cards in your system using alsa-base.conf? This is a bit extreme, but might be a useful troubleshooting measure, as some people have had issues in the past with alsa indexing mutiple cards to the same slot number
