My F60 Qosmio HDD has failed due to owner abuse.....it has the following info and looking for guidance for a Toshiba replacement HDD:

Need to know what variants on the HDD2H81 B & UL02 B numbers can be used....??
There seems to be S, T etc etc of each number which I know nothing...

HDD replacement is not big deal. What you need is compatible SATA HDD that you can get in every computer store.
How to replace HDD on Qosmio F60 you can see here .
One more thing: you can use new SSD. I have upgraded my P500 and it is simply amazing how fast my notebook is.

  • My HDD has failed.  How do you re-install OS X to a new drive?

When trying to install Mountian Lion, I discovered that my HDD has failed.  I can boot into my Windows partion but not into OS X.  I am fine with installing a new HDD myself but how do I get OS X back onto it?

Well, you have no choice but to find your original Disks, there are two: An Install Disk & an Applications Disk. If you can't find them, you'll have to call AppleCare to get replacements.
If you had a clone of your system, this would be easy, so next time keep a bootable clone handy. When you get your original disks, you can then use disk utility to format the drive, then reinstall SL, update to 10.6.8, then redownload Lion. Once you download Lion, make a USB install stick BEFORE you upgrade to Lion. That way, you're covered if something like this happens again.

My hard drive has failed after 4 reliable years. What size HD do I need to buy? (2.5" or 3.5")
Any other compatibility things to consider when purchasing an internal notebook HD?

  • Bad sectors Qosmio F60 HDD

    Qosmio F60 PQF65A-00Y002 Windows 7 Home Premium  SP1
After installing Windows SP1 I had a number of problems. I can't see how they were directly related but maybe some indirect effect. One of them is that suddenly I have a few very agreessively bad sectors on my HDD. A surprise as before SP1 the computer was all fantastic and reliable. However, after the fateful SP1 install I had immediately difficulties with the computer slowing down, the index corrupting etc. Chkdsk /R hangs up in the 4th part. I bought Spinrite and it found two locations on the disk which it cannot recover even after running it for several days and then repeating. The problem for me is that I had no good system image - my last backup failed and I did not get around to repeating it and now Windows backup system image fails and also third party backup stuff like EASEUS Todo Backup fails. I want to get a system image and then be able to replace the HDD. Is there any Toshiba tool for this model to help mark those sectors as bad so that the computer ignores them when doing a system image backup?

  • HDD has failed on my Satellite laptop

Hi there please help! I have a satellite laptop which was purchased in September 2013 with windows 8 OS the hard drive has failed what can I do to fix this?
    Any help is appreciated

    Hi,
My Toshiba was also new - an L5od-b-13p, a gift on Christmas day. Just tried to switch it back on from Hibernation mode and discovered that the power light is on, Capslock and NumberLock on and no screen switching on. It doesn't sound like the HDD is engaging. I can't take the battery out in order to reset it - with only three lights showing it's going to take a very long time to fully discharge the battery.
Can any users offer any help here please?
    thanks

  • Can I format HDD and reinstall Windows 7 on Qosmio F60 without CD

I think my hard drive is failing on my Quosmio F60 so I want to reformat the hard drive to see if that will fix it. But I don't have the original packaging and information with me at the moment so I'm not sure if it came with a windows 7 CD or not. Either way, I don't have the CD.
I found on the net that most manufacturer's who deliver without a CD include a "recovery partition" or "factory image partition" that you can access during boot up. Does anyone know if the Quosmio F60 came with a CD or if it has this recovery partition or factory image partition? Or do you know if there's a way I can check if my computer has it?
If you have any other information on formatting the hard drive and reinstalling windows 7 without the CD please let me know.
    Thanks.

The notebook did not come with an Windows disk because there is an tool called Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator which create the recovery disk.
The recovery partition was available and it allows you to recover the notebook without the usage of recovery disk but this does not work if the HDD has failed.
Here a nice HowTo about HDD recovery
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm
So if you dont have a recovery disk and cannot recovery the notebook using HDD recovery then you have two options:
    - You will order a new recovery disk
    - You would install Windows OS using an Microsoft disk

  • Qosmio F60-111 - HDD is dead

I have a Qosmio F60-111 6-months ago and i have a problem with the hard drive.
The computer expert say my computer has a sensitive hard drive, even just a weak vibration may destroy or damage my hard drive.
My hard drive now is damage because of that sensitivity.
Is it true that the hard drive of toshiba qosmio is easy to be damage?
If it is true, can i able to ship it from one place to another with out damaging my hard drive?

    Hi mate
I dont know if the HDD of the Qosmio can be damage easily
As far as I know the notebook was equipped with a common 640GB (5400RPM) SATA HDD and such HDD is used in many different notebooks from different notebook manufacturers.
But the notebook supports the new Toshiba future called TOSHIBA HDD Protection (3D sensor) and this sensor stops the HDD head moving if the notebook would be moved or shacked so this future protect the HDD and helps to save the HDD life
But you should know that HDD is a part which will die, sooner or later this has nothing to do with the notebook or notebook manufacturer but with the HDD usage
I had many computers and notebooks in the past and three of my HDD died after some time of usage
So if the warranty is still valid, then you can replace the HDD free of charge but if the warranty is not valid anymore then you have to pay for the replacement

Hello I hope somebody can help. I have an ipod classic 6th generation which has a 160gb MK1626GCB HDD in it. This drive has failed so I bought a new one. I don't know how I've managed it but I've ended up with a 160gb MK1634GAL. The connectors on the hdds are different on the hdd end but look the same on the mb end. Can I just get a different ribbon so it fits? Ive looked for one and have found a couple of different ones and the seem to be specific to the ipod although I cannot find one specific for the 160g. Can anyone shed some light onto this?

    Hi
Did you try to reinstall the webcam application?
Do that! Firstly uninstall the webcam software. Reboot the notebook and install the webcam software again.
You dont know where to find this software?
Well, you can find this package either on Toshiba European driver page or on the Toshiba Australian page.
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
    http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/
Both pages should provide the same webcam software.
I think new installation shoudl help you to sortout this issue.

  • Re: Qosmio F60/05M - PXE-E61 media test failure and harddisk failure

    Hi
    My problem is the computer freezes often and has issues with windows explorer. Also it will freeze when in games. I don't know if the issues are related but after freezing when it starts to reboot it will come up with a black screen reading;
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
When I press anything it just comes up with the same message. If I turn the notebook off by the power button and give it some time before turning it on it gives me the option to start windows in safemode or normal if I choose safemode it doesn't start. Also when I run the toshiba PC diagnostic tool the harddisk fails the test. It doesn't give me any explanation.
This problem has occurred a number of times over the last couple of weeks.
    The model is:
    Qosmio F60/05M PQF65A-05M02W
Any help would be much appreciated
    Thanks
    Mick

    Hi mick,
    > Also when I run the toshiba PC diagnostic tool the harddisk fails the test.
This would be also my personal opinion that something is wrong with HDD itself I mean if the computer try to boot it access the internal HDD and start Windows but if the computer cant find the internal HDD it tries to boot from LAN
I think you should contact an authorized service provider in your country. The guys should check your HDD and replace it if it necessary.
Furthermore backup all your data if you didnt do this as yet. Therefore you can use an external USB HDD.

  • Qosmio F60-00Y slow/laggish

    Hello,
I've got a Qosmio F60-00Y notebook which is generally very fast but yesterday night at around 10:30-11:00 PM (16th September Australian Eastern Standard Time) I noticed that it was lagging - scrolling on Firefox was 'delayed' rather than smooth, so I'd scroll down and Firefox would sort of freeze for a few seconds and then I'd be down the page accordingly.
I've done a number of things:
-taken the battery out and put it back in
    -updated BIOS
    -vacuumed the outside vents
    -restarted numerous times
    -malware/spyware/virus checks
    -uninstalled Firefox
All of this has seemed to improve it slightly but it's still not as fast as it was before. I uninstalled Firefox because I remembered that it had updated yesterday - I'm not sure the exact time and installed Google Chrome which is quicker, but the other applications such as Windows Media Centre are still quite slow. Even minesweeper lags slightly.
    Processor: Intel i7 2.67GHz
    RAM: 4 GB (2.98 usable)
    OS: Windows 7 32-bit
Fan speed is a constant 60-70% according to Health Monitor, I don't know if that's normal.
It takes longer to shut down and boot up than it used to, about a minute to boot up and then considerably longer than usual to log in and load all the things I have on start up, which isn't a lot.
Applications take longer to load up and lag, even when I right click on some things it lags which I've never had.
I've got no clue whether it's hardware or software. I tried the vents because I hadn't done that in a while and it gets a bit dusty as I don't move it much. The manual recommends cleaning the cooling system every few months, should I try that?
    Thanks.

    Hi buddy,
Of course you can use this complete backup file as well but its only useful if you didnt have this problem at the time you created complete backup file because this could be a software issue.
In worst case you must do a recovery installation (factory settings). This would wipe the whole HDD but so you can make sure if its a hardware issue or not.
    Check this!!!

Can you see the HDD details in the BIOS?
Check this access the BIOS (press F2 while booting) and the HDD details should be mentioned on the first page.
If the HDD is not listed...well then the HDD is faulty

  • Qosmio F60-10J - Standby mode function

    Hello all,
most computers can be set to standby mode and switch back to wortking state after some time automatically.
There is a feature in the windows operating system which manages it and it is for example used by the task manager. When you create a task in the windows task manager, you can request it to wake up the computer from the standby mode at the moment when the task has to be executed. And it is what happens on most computers. Some other applications use the same feature and are able to wake up a computer for executing tasks at a given time.
None of these applications seem to work on my Toshiba Qosmio F60-10j and this means probably that the BIOS and the electronics of the computer do not take in account the necessary features. This is the first computer I see failing in this kind of use. It's a pity because it's a way to save power. For executing a task with this computer at a given moment, it seems necessary to keep it completely working and waiting for the moment when the task has to be executed. On most other computers, it's possible to turn them in standby mode, they restart when it's time working.
May be it's a bug in the BIOS and a fix is available?
    Best regards.
    D.F.

    Hello,
    I'll try to be clearer.
When you set your computer in standby mode, usually, you restart it by pressing on the power switch or on the keyboard.
    But there is another way.
Before the computer is set to standby mode, a program can request windows to restart automatically the computer at a given moment wiithout any action of the user. I use this a lot for example for capturing videos on TV. The computer stays in standby while waiting for the broadcast, and retarts at the moment when it has to record it.
If you want to be more technical, the windows API which does that is named SetWaitableTimer, and the parameter to start this function is a boolean named fResume.
So for example; if your program requested to resume the computer at 9 AM and if you set it to standby at 8:30 AM (or if it went in standby mode by itself ar 8:30) the computer will restart without any new action at 9 AM.
I use it for a long time on several computers, 2 Compaq, one Acer, and one IBM, with Windows XP and Vista.
A standard program shipped with windows uses this feature, it's the task manager (the windows scheduler) which is able to resume a computer in standby mode at the moment when a task is scheduled if it requests it.
What happens on the Qosmio ? simply nothing. Even if a program or the task manager requested it to resume at a given time, it stays in stanby mode. Of course, once the power switch is pressed, the computer restarts normally. But it seems that this computer has not the ability to restart automatically after a given time.
The O.S. is Windows 7 64, the one that was shipped with the computer.
I have no way to see if this comes from windows or from the computer. I never tested this on another windows 64 configuration. Anyway, it's a kernel function of windows and it's used by an important and standard windows tool, so that I don't think that there is a bug in the windows part. But of course, when the computer is on standby, windows is stopped and the restarting process relies completely on the electronics and BIOS of the computer, and in my opinion, the failure is probably there.
For now, the consequence for me is that i let the Qosmio running for example when waiting for recording a video, but I don't like it because it wastes power and makes the computer, its fan and disk run for nothing.
    Best regards.
    D.F.

  • How can I cleanly re-install win 7 and drivers for Qosmio F60?

Guys I really need help here.. My *Qosmio F60* has been infected with annoying google re-direct virus..
I am thinking of re-formatting my laptop. But I don't have the any CD. I really forgot if my Qosmio came with the CD or not.

    Hi
New notebooks are offered without recovery discs but with HDD recovery option. How to install OS again using HDD recovery option you can find on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm
After finishing clean OS please create recovery discs using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator. These discs can be used if HDD recovery option will not work for some reason.

  • My External HDD has disappeared and won't mount

Hi Folks, I wonder if anyone can help me.
I have an Iomega external HD that Super duper backs up to, however I have had failed backup attempts and now it won't appear on the desktop. Before this happened I had to force eject it, so that I could reboot and plug back in to USB 2 to see if I could make the backup work but what has happened now is that it will not appear on my desktop, or in Finder. It has caused my iMac to keep re-starting, so I have disconnected it now.
This is the report that I got as to why it has caused the iMac to keep re-starting but I am unsure of what it means. I wonder if anyone could enlighten me. Do you think this HDD has gone bad??
