Qosmio G10-100: no powerup faulty motherboard

Hi
I am trying to remotely diagnose a powerup problem with my daughters Qosmio F20 (she is away at university).
When she powered up yesterday the most she got was the power button showing blue and variations of:
Completely black display - nothing more
Qosmio screen logo flickering with lines accross the screen, followed by black display
Qosmio screen logo flickering with lines accross the screen, followed by black display with flashing cursor.
Inserting recovery dvd and starting with f12 held down only gave blue button and black display.
Esc plus power up gives flickering Qosmio logo, followed by 0000 and flashing cursor on black screen.
Some other posts suggest a new motherboard is required.
Any suggestions?
What price to supply and install a motherboard?
This seems to be a common fault - is this common?
Thanks Colin

I had exactly the same problem and have been advised by the authorised service centre that it is a failed system board and that it will cost 500 to replace.
If you search through the forum you will find plenty of examples of the same issue which I dont believe is a coincidence. In the spirit of the forum I do not wish to start a witch hunt but it may be worth putting this fact to Toshiba.
You can get a factory refurb for about 650 but you have no guarantee it wont happen again if it is a design fault.

  • Qosmio G10-100 - failure afer HDD replacement with larger HDD

Following a HDD failure in a Qosmio G10-100, I replaced the current IDE 80GB HD with a 160GB IDE drive. After running the recovery DVD, new HDD was formatted and the software successfully installed (subsequently proved by removing the drive and treating as an exterrnal HDD on another PC).
However, on booting up, the machine recognised that this was a different hard drive and would not let me proceed beyond the screen that offered alternatives (Safe Mode, etc), neither of which would allow me access.
    Any advise greatfully received

Many thanks for looking at this issue Paulo30 and Syntax. To answer your questions:
    a) I have installed the Windows OS using the Toshia recovery disc on the new 160GB HDD
    b) I have now repeated the procedure twice following the failure of the PC to successfully start up
    c) What appears to be the correct file structure and files have been written to the drive (confirmed by removing the HDD and looking at its contents on another PC)
    d) I also repeated the procedure using the original 80 GB HDD and still no joy
    e) I get an error message that begins with the following:
' We apologise for the inconvenience but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this'
    f) The 80GB HDD was a replacement installed by Toshiba under warranty when the original drive failed and the operating system was installed on this new drive by them but not using my recovery DVDs
What I think I understand from the above is that because the hardware configutation is not exactly the same as when first installed at the factory (HDD in this case has changed) at the time my Toshiba recovery disc was created, this has caused a glitch with the recovery procedure.
I am sure that I am not the first person to be in this position and wonder if there is a simple solution
    Many thanks

  • Qosmio G10-100 - optical drive replacement and IDE01

I just replaced my DVD optical drive on my Toshiba Qosmio G10-100 with a Product Number Optiarc AD7543A drive but I get an IDE01 error message at start up.
At first the DVD optical drive worked then Toshiba did not recognize drive. Any solutions?

Joao is right. If you use non-compatible device the pin assignment is not the same and the new device is not recognized by BIOS. To avoid all those problems check users manuals document and try to obtain the compatible ODD.

  • Qosmio G10-106: No warranty but motherboard was replaced free of charge

    Hey there.
I have my toshiba QOSMIO G10 since 2005 and this year my graphic just went bad for any reason, my bad was I had my warranty already expired, so I called Toshiba to inform myself about the price of the mainboard as the graphic card is integrated with it.
It was absurd with VAT will cost me £630.00, I fell frustrated and I resolved to call Toshiba to make a complaining as a did. They returned my call telling me
They will change my mainboard FREE OF CHARGE and they did it in "48 hours" unbeliveble.
It was amazing and grateful. So if someone is having the same problem as i had just call them.
PS. this is my second Toshiba computer i can tell you after that i will love toshiba forever and i fell so happy and proud to have had purchased my computer from a respectable company as Toshiba.

I saw you have already posted you issue here in this thread:

Hey Marcelo thanks for sharing this info with us! I think the Toshiba support is really NOT bad and you message confirms this fact!
    Thanks for feedback

  • Qosmio G10-100 - Need sound driver for Windows 7

Please please please can anyone help I have spend hours and hours installing loads of difference drivers and none work. I even tried installing DriveRobot and that installed a RealTec 97 but does not work.
I need a window 7 sounds driver for a G10 100 I am sure there is someone out there that has the same issues. Please note that when I go to the sound device it shows up and no sound drivers installed even if I install the Realtex ones.
I am pretty sure that the sound card build into the lappy is a SoundMax

    Hello
First of all you should check the specifications of your notebook and what sound card is built in. I have done this and the Toshiba page shows a built in AnalogDevices AD1981B sound card. That means a Realtek driver will not work.
On the Toshiba website I can only find Windows XP drivers that means Windows 7 or Vista is not supported :(
You can search on external websites and with Google to find a driver. Maybe you have a little bit luck. ;)

  • Qosmio G10-100: Installing second HDD & obtaining mounting bracket

I'd like to install a second hard drive. Any instructions or general tips on how to do so would be greatly appreciated.
I'm looking at purchasing a HITACHI T7K500 Desktar 2.5" - 320 GB Interface: SATA 3.0 GB/s serial & ATA Ultra 133 parallel. Is this compatible??
I need help obtaining a mounting bracket for this upgrade or even information relating to the compatible brackets?
    Thx in advance,

Thx again the site i was purchasing the drive from (pixmania) had incorrectly labled the Desckstar as 2.5". The travelstar is the one i need, i notice that there is a new 160GTB ATA (parralle) travelstar coming out:
    Hitachi-HGST, Travelstar 5K160 HTS541616J9AT00 0A28419
    Type ATA IDE-Ultra/100
    Capacity 160gb
    Would this be compatible???

  • Qosmio G10-100: HDD has failed - what HDD size do I need to buy?

My hard drive has failed after 4 reliable years. What size HD do I need to buy? (2.5" or 3.5")
Any other compatibility things to consider when purchasing an internal notebook HD?
    Thanks!
    Ben.

It seems the largest 2.5" Toshiba IDE drive available 120Gb (based on http://sdd.toshiba.com).
    Thanks again,

  • Qosmio G10-133: Where to find NVIDIA GeForce FX Go6600 Vista drivers

I have a Qosmio G10-133 with the upgraded motherboard which I believe has the Nvidia GeForce FX Go6600 graphics chip, not the older motherboard which had the 5900 chip.
I am trying to find a recommended driver for this chip when using Vista as an operating system.
I know Toshiba no longer support this discontued model and certainly do not have the drivers on their website.
Anybody got any ideas where I can obtain a suitable driver, or even if there is one.
Nvidia's website just states that invidiual laptop manufacturers adapt drivers for their chips and don't provide a driver.
    Any ideas?

From my understanding the Toshiba doesnt support any Vista drivers for the Qosmio G10 The Vista seems to be supported since Qosmio G30 series
I have read several threads about the compatible graphic drivers for Vista OS and the _www.laptopvideo2go.com_ website provides some nVidia drivers.
But note; these drivers are not tested and therefore you can install and use it only at your own risk
    Best regards

  • Qosmio G10 Graphics and Sound driver installation

    Hi
I have recently tried to reinstall my Toshiba Qosmio G10 after downloading all the latest drivers of the Toshiba site.
Unfortunately I have had my motherboard and display replaced over the last 3 years (under Warranty) , which means all the hardware has changed from the original laptop I bought (now has Graphics card ,NVIDIA GeForce go 6600, new chipset, etc, as far as i remember).
Does anyone have a system recovery cd or a place I can download the correct drivers for this laptop.
I am a sys admin, and technical and have spent about 5 hours pulling out my hair trying to get the video and sound drivers working.

    Hi!
It is pretty easy to get drivers for a Toshiba notebook.
Did you search on Toshiba website?
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
Search for Qosmio G10 and then you will find it.
    Bye

  • Qosmio G10 fails to start

    Hi everybody
I have a qosmio G10 since less than a year. It was simply perfect.
But now it refuse to start but I am unable to identify the source of the problem. (I have some experience with hardware problems but...)
When I push the start button I do ear the DVD reader running, the HD lights up for a second and then the laptop seems to be powered on, but HDD's don't seem to run (there's absolutly nothing on screen, no boot screen at all). I'am able to open the DVD Reader/writer so there is power even on the battery.
Will somebody be so kind to share some advice? (FN F5/F1 key's doesn't help)
    Thanks

Did you hear a single beep tone?
Such short single beep tone appears if the unit has passed the POST (power-on-self-test) successfully and the hardware is ok.
The BIOS on the motherboard will always perform a POST during power up, usually this test is perform to ensure proper system function and if a
failure occurs the POST will identify the failure and emits a beeping sound to prompt the service technician to take corrective action ASAP.
In your case its possibly something wrong with the display. Try to connect the external monitor to the notebook.
Furthermore you can try to remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor for a while.
After several time try to connect the AC adaptor again and try to start the notebook.
If it doesnt help so I would really suggest contacting the Toshiba service partner in your country for checking the notebook. Usually the technicians start some diagnostic test and are able to locate the fault very fast.

  • Qosmio G10-105: screen is black

I have been asked to look at a Qosmio G10-105 by a friend who claims it was working fine until one day "The screen went black"
It appears to start fine but there is absolutely no image on the screen at all, no backlight and no "Dim" image. The problem is that when I connect an external screen there is also no image at all however the external screen does become backlit but that is all.
Can I assume that it is neither the inverter, backlight or screen as I am getting no picture on an external screen?
Is it likely to be the graphics card? If so is it replaceable or is it part of the motherboard?
I have tried 2 external screens
Any help / ideas would be most welcome...
    Thanks
    Rob

    > Is it likely to be the graphics card? If so is it replaceable or is it part of the motherboard?
Hmm. It seems really like a graphic card issue
It was a great idea to connect the external monitor to check if the same issue would appear on the second display this is a easiest way to find out if this issue could be related to the TFT display or the graphic card.
The GPU chip is fixed on the motherboard and in most cases (in your case too) the whole motherboard must be replaced :(
Unfortunately but it looks like a costly affair :(

  • Faulty Motherboard HPG62-a04SA

    Hello all,
I have done all the test and have found my laptop has a faulty motherboard. I will like to replace this Motherboard but there are not many second-hand HPG62-a04SA motherboards for sale.
Can sdomeone tell me what other Motherbaords will fit this laptop? Are the Other HP G62 Motherbaord the same shape and size?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Any of these boards will fit in the chassis:
HD 5470/512 MB discrete system board with card reader 597673–001
    HD UMA system board 597674–001
HD 5430/1 GB discrete system board with card reader 610160-001
HD 545v/512 MB discrete system board with card reader (for model 1.0 only) 610161-001
Your model has a card reader so I believe your board is 597673–001.

All the ones I found are shipping from China or Japan. The part number is stenciled on your motherboard somewhere, likely inside the memory compartment and I would remove and match the old board before ordering new. You are going to have to remove it anyway. The Service Manual is not always 100% correct.
This is a link to the Manual:

  • Qosmio G10 graphics fault

    Hi guys,
I have one problem with my Qosmio G10 with graphics. Image on the screen is completely incorrect. Pictures on the screen are divided to different squares that displayed in different points of screen. This bug starts just after power on the laptop.
For example the logotype QOSMIO is showed in different points of screen in next view:
In left side of screen are part of M, I and part of O, then OS and another part of M, then in right side of screen are Q that is cut to two parts and left part of O.
All things are displayed in the same way.
Pleas help me with it, if it is possible?
    Thank in advance
    IVAN

    Hi
Its very sad to say it but it sounds like a graphic card problem!
In such case you have to contact the ASP in your country for a help. I presume the motherboard must be replaced because the GPU chip is fixed on the board and cannot be removed as single part .
Hopefully youve bought an additional extended warranty because the motherboard replacement could be a little bit expensive :(
Contact the technicians and ask for more details!
    Good luck

  • How can I erase the data on my 2009 macbook pro that won't turn on because of a faulty motherboard? Do I just remove the hard drive, install it in a working mac, and erase it that way?

How can I erase the data on my 2009 macbook pro that won't turn on because of a faulty motherboard? Do I just remove the hard drive, install it in a working mac, and erase it that way? Thanks.

You put the internal drive in an enclosure. If you choose to keep the drive, you don't need to erase it.

  • What is this update about? (Qosmio G10)

I received the mail below from Toshiba. I hate the fact that they -in most cases- do not explain what an update is about and I also hate installing something I have no idea what it is about.
Anybody done this and can tell be what this is? Is this crucial somehow or just an additional utility. My WLAN is working properly so I do not have any issue on this.
    Thanks.

    Hello
In my opinion you dont need any explanation because type of the update is clear indicated. It is just Wireless Lan Client Manager and if you know what it is there should not be any problem.
