Qosmio G10 fails to start

Hi everybody
I have a qosmio G10 since less than a year. It was simply perfect.
But now it refuse to start but I am unable to identify the source of the problem. (I have some experience with hardware problems but...)
When I push the start button I do ear the DVD reader running, the HD lights up for a second and then the laptop seems to be powered on, but HDD's don't seem to run (there's absolutly nothing on screen, no boot screen at all). I'am able to open the DVD Reader/writer so there is power even on the battery.
Will somebody be so kind to share some advice? (FN F5/F1 key's doesn't help)
Thanks

Did you hear a single beep tone?
Such short single beep tone appears if the unit has passed the POST (power-on-self-test) successfully and the hardware is ok.
The BIOS on the motherboard will always perform a POST during power up, usually this test is perform to ensure proper system function and if a
failure occurs the POST will identify the failure and emits a beeping sound to prompt the service technician to take corrective action ASAP.
In your case its possibly something wrong with the display. Try to connect the external monitor to the notebook.
Furthermore you can try to remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor for a while.
After several time try to connect the AC adaptor again and try to start the notebook.
If it doesnt help so I would really suggest contacting the Toshiba service partner in your country for checking the notebook. Usually the technicians start some diagnostic test and are able to locate the fault very fast.

  • Qosmio G10 - continuous beep on start up

    Hi,
I have a Qosmio G10. It's worked fine up until recently. Now when I start it up, I hear a continuous beep. There is also no screen image.
    Can anyone help?
    Many thanks
    Martin

I think there is a problem in the hardware configuration.
Did the laptop receive a shock recently?
The laptop beeps because the checks of the bios detected an anomaly.
What you can easily do is to check that at least the RAM is correctly inserted in its place. It happened to me once: I did not inserted correctly the additional RAM that I added, and the laptop beeped loudly!
If it does not solve the problem=> toshiba service.

  • White Screen on Qosmio G10 when starting

I have an old Qosmio G10 which I bought from a licensed dealer in Beijing about 2 years ago.
After about a year of use at home I discovered that the screen would sometimes turn white when the screen was moved or shaking.
Some days it would work perfectly fine others it wouldnt even start up without going white.
Towards the end the screen would only show a picture when the screen was put in a certain angle.
Now, the screen just goes white the second I turn it on.
Am I looking at a hardware problem here or have there been known to be software problems with some of the similar laptops?
    Thanks,
    T

    Hi buddy,
sounds like the display cable is maybe loose. I would point on a hardware problem, but before sending your machine to an authorized service partner, go to an local computer technician and let him check the cables on the display.
If realigning of the cables does not help then your display is defective and needs to be replaced by an authorized service partner. I dont know how long your warranty is, but if you want anyways send your machine to an service partner, you should visit the following link to find the nearest one in your country:

  • Qosmio G45-AV680 - Windows failed to start

My cousin have this laptop and it could not boot the system. It shows message:
"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
    1. Insert your Window installation disk and restart your computer.
    2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
    3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disk, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. Status: 0xc000000f
Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible"
I tried to enter SAFE MODE, but it cannot do it. It starts to load drivers, but it stops at one moment and wont continue ...
The problem is that she did not get any DVD with laptop. I suppose that the Vista OS, that came with it is at the special partition on hard disc, but how can I acces it? How can I reinstall the system? I dont mind if I lose data, I just wont to get this to work ...

If recovery DVD is not delivered that means recovery installation can be started from HDD. I don't know how it works exactly on US notebooks. Try to press zero button after start up to see if HDD recovery option can be started.
By the way: check Toshiba US support forum under http://laptopforums.toshiba.com/tshb/
Maybe someone there can explain to you how it works to start HDD OS installation.

  • Qosmio G10-100 - failure afer HDD replacement with larger HDD

Following a HDD failure in a Qosmio G10-100, I replaced the current IDE 80GB HD with a 160GB IDE drive. After running the recovery DVD, new HDD was formatted and the software successfully installed (subsequently proved by removing the drive and treating as an exterrnal HDD on another PC).
However, on booting up, the machine recognised that this was a different hard drive and would not let me proceed beyond the screen that offered alternatives (Safe Mode, etc), neither of which would allow me access.
    Any advise greatfully received

Many thanks for looking at this issue Paulo30 and Syntax. To answer your questions:
    a) I have installed the Windows OS using the Toshia recovery disc on the new 160GB HDD
    b) I have now repeated the procedure twice following the failure of the PC to successfully start up
    c) What appears to be the correct file structure and files have been written to the drive (confirmed by removing the HDD and looking at its contents on another PC)
    d) I also repeated the procedure using the original 80 GB HDD and still no joy
    e) I get an error message that begins with the following:
' We apologise for the inconvenience but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this'
    f) The 80GB HDD was a replacement installed by Toshiba under warranty when the original drive failed and the operating system was installed on this new drive by them but not using my recovery DVDs
What I think I understand from the above is that because the hardware configutation is not exactly the same as when first installed at the factory (HDD in this case has changed) at the time my Toshiba recovery disc was created, this has caused a glitch with the recovery procedure.
I am sure that I am not the first person to be in this position and wonder if there is a simple solution
    Many thanks

  • Qosmio G10: How to get Toshiba Virtual Sound in Taskbar

System: Qosmio G10 running Windows XP.
When I bought the system, it came loaded with Toshiba's 'Virtual Sound' app, which replaced the standard Microsoft Volume Control app in the XP Taskbar (bottom right of screen). Now, the standard 'Volume Control' app appears in the Taskbar.
How do I get the 'Virtual Sound' app back? It enables me to easily switch between setting the sound for the laptop's internal speakers and using larger external speakers.
    Thanks!
    Ben.
    PS. Love Qosmio's!

    Hello Ben
First of all check if this application is preinstalled on your notebook. When application is preinstalled properly in task manager under running processes you can find TvsTray.exe listed there.
If the application is correctly installed you can also find an entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Run when you start REGEDIT in RUN option.
Check all this. If there is something wrong I recommend you to install it again.

  • Qosmio G10 with new graphic card and pcb - Tools CD Update doesn't work

    Hi everybody
I hope you can help me. Before a few weeks I received my Toshiba Qosmio G10 back from the support, because the notebook didn't work anymore. So I get it back with a new Grafic card and a new PCB. With my Notebook I get a CD which is called update Tool CD-Rom and an instruction sheet, where it says that you have to boot with this update Tool CD-Rom after you had installed the Windows with the reovery CD.
So I made it, but when I know put the update Tool CD-Rom in and I boot with it, the computer installs something but after a short while there comes a message that it is a different model and that I have to put a button to shut down the Notebook. So i made it but the Windows doesn't start.
Why is that so? I had everything done which was said on the instruction sheet.
    Please help me

    Hello
It will be interesting to find out more about this update Tool CD-Rom. Is there Toshiba label? Can you please write what is described there?

  • Qosmio G10-100 - optical drive replacement and IDE01

I just replaced my DVD optical drive on my Toshiba Qosmio G10-100 with a Product Number Optiarc AD7543A drive but I get an IDE01 error message at start up.
At first the DVD optical drive worked then Toshiba did not recognize drive. Any solutions?

Joao is right. If you use non-compatible device the pin assignment is not the same and the new device is not recognized by BIOS. To avoid all those problems check users manuals document and try to obtain the compatible ODD.

  • Qosmio G10: analog video signal capturing from Camcorder

    Please help
I am from Canada and new to this forum. I bought a Qosmio G10 early this year but only had a chance to try to use it to capture and convert my V8 home video tapes recently with no success.
I have tried the Toshiba Tech support with no hope. I have tried the registery patch for VinDVD creator 2, but still it is not seeing my video input stream from the camcorder. I tried both S-Video and Composite inputs with no result. Anybody with similar experience?
    I appreciate your help.
    Moe

    Help please?
    It's me again!
So far I've got the analog video stream captured only when using DVD Creator 2. But, I still have two more problems to solve. 1) When I stop recording onto DVD creator, always error message:"WinDVD Creator has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." is displayed, and restarting the program it cannot open the recorded clip saying "either the file is corrupt or a non-compatible file format" while Windows Media player can play it back. I cannot edit the recorded video clip as a result. 2) The second problem is that the video stream from S-Video of analog camcorder is played back OK, but once click the record on DVD creator, the video capturing starts to lag and looses smooth flow.
Any hint or comment is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Moe

  • Qosmio G10-105: screen is black

I have been asked to look at a Qosmio G10-105 by a friend who claims it was working fine until one day "The screen went black"
It appears to start fine but there is absolutely no image on the screen at all, no backlight and no "Dim" image. The problem is that when I connect an external screen there is also no image at all however the external screen does become backlit but that is all.
Can I assume that it is neither the inverter, backlight or screen as I am getting no picture on an external screen?
Is it likely to be the graphics card? If so is it replaceable or is it part of the motherboard?
I have tried 2 external screens
Any help / ideas would be most welcome...
    Thanks
    Rob

    > Is it likely to be the graphics card? If so is it replaceable or is it part of the motherboard?
Hmm. It seems really like a graphic card issue
It was a great idea to connect the external monitor to check if the same issue would appear on the second display this is a easiest way to find out if this issue could be related to the TFT display or the graphic card.
The GPU chip is fixed on the motherboard and in most cases (in your case too) the whole motherboard must be replaced :(
Unfortunately but it looks like a costly affair :(

  • Qosmio G10 graphics fault

    Hi guys,
I have one problem with my Qosmio G10 with graphics. Image on the screen is completely incorrect. Pictures on the screen are divided to different squares that displayed in different points of screen. This bug starts just after power on the laptop.
For example the logotype QOSMIO is showed in different points of screen in next view:
In left side of screen are part of M, I and part of O, then OS and another part of M, then in right side of screen are Q that is cut to two parts and left part of O.
All things are displayed in the same way.
Pleas help me with it, if it is possible?
    Thank in advance
    IVAN

    Hi
Its very sad to say it but it sounds like a graphic card problem!
In such case you have to contact the ASP in your country for a help. I presume the motherboard must be replaced because the GPU chip is fixed on the board and cannot be removed as single part .
Hopefully youve bought an additional extended warranty because the motherboard replacement could be a little bit expensive :(
Contact the technicians and ask for more details!
    Good luck

  • Qosmio G10 - new hard drive

There are two hard drives in this Toshiba Qosmio G10 machine, a 56 GB & a 40 GB - looks as if the 40 has failed.
Is this simply a metter of popping in a replacement drive? Here is the link to the drive I speak of....
    http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=StorageSolutions/2.5-inchHardDiskDrives/MK4026GAX
What needs to be done? Time to put in a bigger drive? Use a an external housing for this drive with a USB connection, providing that this drive works outside of the machine? Probably the "C" drive will fail next. Can the two drives be replaced with one larger drive or what?

Replacing the hard drive is relatively simple since you are going with the same GB model as original.
I could not find this model to rview its configuation specs, but it has to be assumed it was setup this way due to processor ability to handle. Best option would be to call Toshiba customer service/tech support and let authorize a replacement so that you feel competent the unit will function as you desire.  You can even use the ASK IRIS option for immediate chat aspect.  Good luck,

  • Qosmio G10: Without infrared

I recently got Qosmio G10. Although the manual says it has an infrared device (not the remote control sensor), I cannot see the device in "Device Manager". Consequently, the "Wireless Link" icon is not available in Control Panel either. I inspected the BIOS for some infrared enable/disable option but no luck there. I start suspecting that it might have no infrared device installed (than why say so in the manual). Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Dimi

    Hello
I have found info that IrDA is not available for your unit. If there is no entry in device manager the unit has no IrDA. I have checked the Users manuals and I have no found info that there should be infrared on this machine.

  • Running workbook from .bat fails to start application missing CORE40 dll

I have been running several workbook via windows task scheduler / vbscript &/or bat files.
I now have a new box which I access thru Remote Desktop Connection, so I can run all these automated updates without having my screen blinking everytime a shedule workbook starts.
If I click on the actual Discoverer icon, or the discoverer workbook shortuct, all works well.
If I click on the .bat file, or try to run the workbook via the cmd , it gives me the following error:
DIS4USR.EXE – Unable To Locate Component
“this application has failed to start because CORE40.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”
The dll is under c/orant/bin/core40.dll, which is where I've read it should be, and it works fine in my regular box...
    Please help! URGENT :)
    Thanks!

    Hello
Check the PATH environment variables for the machine you are on and the one you are connecting to.
You might not have Discoverer's objects in the PATH.
Another possibility is that you have more than one piece of ORACLE software on the machine and you may need to also set the ORACLE_HOME within the BAT file.
    Best wishes

Itunes wont open and when re-installed received this msg: Service Apple mob device failed to start.  You have insufficent privileges to start system svc.  Help?

Download Itunes from Apple.com, not from within Itunes.
Redo the install, following the below procedure.   However, when you re-install Itunes,  right click and run the install as administrator.   For Win 7, you have to hold down the cntrl and shift keys when you right click and then "run as administrator" will be an option.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Vista, Win 7 & later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.
