Qosmio G20-156 - no sound
Hi,
i'm having a bit of trouble with my g20-156.
It had stopped locating wireless networks, so as it was in need of a bit of a clean up anyway, i restored it back to factory default settings.
The good news is that the wireless problem is now resolved - the bad news is that i no have no sound!
I have checked all of the settings in the sound and audio menus and cannot see anything obvious.
There is a 'mute' light next to the volume wheel that is permanently on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as it's driving me crazy!
thanks
There is no manual mute button.
If the mute is unchecked in control panel -> sound then the sound should not be muted.
You said you have set the Qosmio back to factory settings using recovery disk and this didnt help?
Hmm strange for me this would mean that this might be a hardware issue.
The sound driver is from Sigma its very unusual sound driver
Check this HowTO about how to find right drivers maybe you will need some 3rd party drivers

Integrated digital TV on Qosmio G20-156
My husband has a Qosmio G20-156.
Can anyone tell me if there is digital TV reception available on this model. I am hoping to get him a DVB-T USB for fathers day, however on looking at the product specification it states that it has digital capability integrated.
I am certain however if his machine did then we would already be hooked up !
Can anyone clarify for me, as I would love this to be a surprise.Hi
According to the Qosmio specification site the unit was delivered with DVB+T Analog Hybrid TV Tuner and DVB-T Antenna.
I dont know where do you live but the fact is that you cannot receive the digital signals everywhere. The signal must be strong enough to receive the digital channels. -
Qosmio G20-156 running slowly after system restore
please help since my son crashed my pc and i restored it with the cd that came with the machine im having problems with screensaver running slowly and some programs running slowly like nero vision which was fine before. i tried all the usual stuff like lowering graphics acceleration but no joy please help
e-mail me at [email protected]
my machine is a qosmio g20-156 pqg21eHi
The screensaver is running slowly??? I dont know what you mean but possibly some pictures or anything moves slowly. So I dont think that this has something to do with the hardware but more with the screensaver settings as suggested above.
The Qosmio is a very powerful notebook and a application such screensaver cannot be a problem.
But Silas gives you a very nice advice. Check the background processes and disable not necessary applications which starts at the beginning -
Qosmio G20-156: clean install??
Hello,
I am new to the notebook arena and am a proud owner of the fantastic Qosmio G20-156.
I was just wondering what would people recommend to do first thing when you recieve it.. with regards to sofware & operating system; Is it a good idea to run a clean install of Windows and format the HDD? The reason I ask is because some laptops come with a lot of junkware? If so, is it a straightforward process using the recovery disks or would I just be opening Pandora's box of possible complications?
I am fairly competent with installing drivers etc!
Any advice much appreciated!!Hi
Well, its nice that you are competent with driver installation but that is not all what you have to know.
This unit uses a RAID technology and you have to install also the RAID drivers, etc
I dont recommend to format anything or to install the new OS. Many Toshiba programs and applications are installed on the new Qosmio because its a high-end notebook with many features. The newest features need these applications.
But of course its your unit and you decided what and how is running on your notebook.
I this case you can use the Toshiba image and you can remove some programs from the notebook in Add and remove programs
This is a easiest way. -
Connecting to Surround Sound (Qosmio G20)
I am trying to connect my Qosmio G20 to my external surround sound sysytem via an amp.
As far as I know I have connected everything correctly, but I am only getting sound from my left speakers front and rear, no where else.
I have checked the speakers and all the settings I can think of on the laptop, is there something I am not doing in order to send the signal to all the speakers??
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Many ThanksHello

Qosmio G20 - sound and tv tuner drivers (digital)
Hello all,
I recently purchased a Qosmio G20 (490ls) in Japan and have had nothing but problems thus far.
The original OS that came bundled with the computer was Windows XP Home (Japanese). I can not read Japanese but I have an English version of Windows XP MCE so I didn't think this would be an issue.
I could not install it correctly so I handed it over to a tech and he accidently wiped everything (the OS, drivers etc) and I do not have a recovery disk from the original.
Anyways I gave it to a new tech to install and they are almost finished except they are missing 2 drivers --- the sound driver and the tv tuner driver. The European drivers are analog and do not work on the Japanese version, however, it needs digital drivers.
I am in desperate need of a "digital sound driver" and a "digital tv tuner driver", if anyone could help me out or point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated =)
Thank youHello Michael
I am very happy that you are there. Maybe you can give us very useful information. I have heard that just TV tuner from Japan can be used in whole world without any standard restriction.
Do you know something about that?
Maybe it is the reason why you can not configure it properly. I am pretty sure that the driver for your unit is designed just for Japanese market and it is possible that our European driver doesnt work properly. Check the driver from US download site

Qosmio G20: watching movies - no sound from TV
Hi
I want to watch movies playing in my qosmio G20 but displaying it on my TV
I connected it using S-Video cable and its getting displayed but no sounds, the sound is still coming from the laptop.
Is there a way I can make the sound come from the TV or my surround sound system?
CheersHi
As far as I know S-video is just for video signal and on this way you can see just picture displayed on the TV. If you want to have sound you must connect headphone jack to the TV.
The best solution is if you use delivered SCART cable. On this way the picture and sound will be send to the TV.

AV cable from Qosmio G20 to Mini HiFI Stereo System Speaker
Hi
When I connect my Qosmio G20 to my stereo using that AV cable (with red, yellow and white jack) and my Qosmio includes a cable that joins this 3 cable to the laptop's line for headphones.
The problem is, it only sends the sound to one speaker if I swap the cable then the just other speaker works and the previous not.
I've already tried the speaker/sound setup to all of the options there and no one made both speakers work.
I tried another set of AV cable and it was the same issue.
This setup works properly if I connect it to the TV but not on my stereo system.
Do I need a different cable?
CheersHi
Are you sure you have connected the right connectors to the HiFI???
For stereo sound receiving you will need to connect only two plugs: RED and WHITE.
Ive also connected my notebook to the HiFI via cable 1-2: one plug to headphone jack and 2 plugs (left, right) to the HiFI.
Everything works great.
Ohh I remember my HiFi supports a controller at the back side to assign the sound to left or right speaker.
I have set it to middle level for both speakers.
Maybe it's teh same on yours HiFI -
Qosmio G20: How to disable/workaround SCMS-T for adiosyn with bluetooth headphones?
Greetings All,
I've recently purchased a set of bluetooth stereo headphones (Creative CB2350) and found that due to the inclusion of SCMS-T copyright protection I cannot audiosync directly to my laptops bluetooth stack (Qosmio G20). The headphones come with an audio jack adapter (bluetooth transmitter), however it runs on a single AAA battery and cannot last more than about an hour; so I need to connect without this.
Is there any way to disable or workaround the requirement for SCMS-T copyright-protection in the latest toshiba bluetooth stack? and if not why not?! I've paid good money for both my Qosmio and my Headphones and I'm quit infuriated at the deliberate inclusion of software/firmware designed specifically to prevent me from using my hardware for legitimate purposes (i.e. what they were designed to do).
Please Help Me,
Lee ([email protected])
PS: Frankly I didn't have much of a problem with DRM technology before this, but now I can see just how irritating and pointless DRM is; compare the number of people who actually use bluetooth devices for pirating (negligable) to the number of bluetooth headphones that do not support SCMS-T (alot if all my google searchs are anything to go by) and you see just how stupid the whole idea of DRM over bluetooth really is.
In my not so humble opinion big corporations like toshiba should railroaded over converluted pap such as SCMS-T as a matter of recourse; the end user doesn't want to spend several years downloading licenses and scouring the web only to find out his/her hardware is utterly useless. (sorry for the rant but that is how I feel).Hy there deepblue,
Thanks for responding again.
Initially I had thought that the adapter/transmitter failed due to a dead battery, although I have since confirmed that the battery is not dead, in fact the adapter works fine (at least for a time). It would seem that the adapter simply shuts down at random intervals (it has happened a few times now) and I can't figure out for the life of me why; the adapter is designed to switch-off after 2 minutes of inactivity although each time it (randomly) switches off I have been recieving audio so perhaps there is something wrong with the auto switch-off function? or perhaps the batteries are in the process of dying?
I have can't recall seeing an estimate of battery lifetime for the adapter on the creative product website (that is not to say there isn't one) but the headset has an estimated continuous runtime of up to 8 hours (on its 2xAAA batteries) so I would assume that the adapter can last at least as long (on its 1xAAA battery); if not this amounts to a major design flaw in my opinion. Sadly the adapter doesn't come with an AC adapter, it is only little itself and I assume it would require one heck of a transformer. ;)
Bah, I'll try and get the blasted thing to work reliably over the next week or so and if I have no luck creative can sort it out. It would still be nice to use my headset without the aid of the audio jack, seeing that headset logo on my bluetooth 'radar' screen is a bit of a tease. ;)
Incidentally I have been probing furiously to find a set of bluetooth headphones which support SCMS-T and it would seem there is only one set on the market (by bluetake) and what's more it would seem that the SCMS-T is specifically designed to degrade sound quality (don't know to what extent but regardless this seems like 1 step forward followed by 5 steps back to me) which would seem incompatible with any bluetooth consumer audio products - Toshiba me thinks it is time to lock the proponents of SCMS-T in a cupboard somewhere and get to work on bluetooth stack v5.0. ;) -
Qosmio G20: Logitech quickcam driver doubles all media speed
When I install the Quickcam Fusion driver on my Qosmio G20, the weirdest thing happens...
All the sounds/video on the computer (music, mic, video, etc.) seems to get doubled in playing speed, how in the world is this possible??
Is the Quickcam Fusion driver not compatible with the G20?? Something must have gone completely wrong.
It all fixes itself when I remove the cam driver again...
I really need help with this one!It looks like the quickcam driver cased this very strange behavior
Why you dont contact the cam manufacture and ask for the support.
Maybe the guys know more about this problem and offers any driver updates or quickfixes. -
Qosmio G20-127: Screen blackout after closing the lid on Vista
Hi,
I have Qosmio G20-127 and I've recently installed Vista Ultimate Edition (32-bit). I managed to bring everything to its place (except the magic buttons, but the drivers are not out yet), but I have a problem that is seriously making me reconsider going back to XP MCE.
When I close the lid of my computer the display naturally goes off, but when I open it up again it does not turn on, but it stays black. And I can't make it turn on again no matter what. I have to turn off the entire computer and that is quite impractical.
Funny thing is that after restart for about 20-30 minutes I can open and close the lid normally, but after a little longer work on the computer the same problem occurs.
The problem persists even after I turned off every action remotely connected to closing the lid.
Does anyone have any solution?Hi J,
thanks for your help but my BIOS update won't install. I get the message "[Error] BIOS Update is not supported OS. Unsupported OS or service pack is installed."
About the powersaver, I didn't install additional powersaver program as I was told it would conflict with Vista's Mobility Center (FranciscoJr's Guide to installing Vista), but all the options regarding closing lid are turned off (Do nothing option).
There are two more new things I observed and might be indicative of the problem, but I don't know what to make of it.
1. When I close the lid I hear 'disconnected device sound'
2. And the screen sometimes comes back if the s-video cable (leading to my tv) is plugged out (usually it was always in coz I use Q20 as a media center as well)
Of course that made me think that it might be a problem in Graphic Card, but I've installed the most recent driver.
So now I'm pretty much clueless as what to do. -
Qosmio G20 AC Adapter damge - need IC chip part number

Thanks,
ABHII have a continuing problem with the power adapter socket into the laptop. It has always been loose and has caused charging difficulties. Eventually the adapter broke and I purchased another and the same thing happened! I am on my 4th adapter which has now stopped working! Is there any way the socket can be changed for something a little more robust?
I know I sound like a clumsy klutz but there are three other laptops in the house which have never given me any problems.
Can anyone out there advise or help? -
How to find Vista drivers for Qosmio G20?
Hi All...
Has anyone managed to get qosmio g20 working correctly with vista drivers yet??? (or even have you managed to find any vista drivers!!!).
Video and sound running in slow-mo... do i need to install monitor drivers ??? (if so where are they??)
Please., please., please., someone help...
LeighsterWell... finally had some joy worth writing about. The 1st version of Vista i installed was an 'Upgrade' from my MCE 2005... the results were that the video and audio played slow (among other problems)... anyway, after much frustration i decided to try a clean install of vista instead of the upgrade. ... ... ... ... ... ... WOW... it worked...video drivers installed, everything works fine (except the Qosmio buttons above the keyboard. NO SLOW_MO AUDIO OR VIDEO :)
Hope this is of some use for others...
(now to find the Vista compatible Qosmio player drivers!!!)

Need advice on buying a Qosmio G20-126
Hi everybody,
I was just passing by a local electronics shop in a mall when I found a Toshiba Qosmio G20-126 on sell for $ 1361.47. And those are the specifications for the laptop:
Processor: Intel Pentium Centrino M770 / 2.13 GHz Data Bus Speed: 533 MHz, 2MB Cache memory
Ram: 2 x 512 MB DDR II SDRAM - 533 MHz
Storage: 2X Hard Drive: 100 GB - Serial ATA-150 - 5400 rpm
CD-ROM: DVD±RW (+R double layer) / DVD-RAM
Card Reader Type: 5 in 1 card reader, Blue Tooth, IR, Remote Control
Display Screen: 17" TFT active matrix, Max Resolution: 1440 x 900 ( WXGA+), Colour support: 24-bit (16.7 million colours), TruBrite
Video card: 128 MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 - PCI Express x16
I have a LG-P1 laptop and That??s is specifications:
Processor: Intel Core Duo L2400 1.83 GHz ( Dual-Core ), 2MB Cache Memory
Ram: 512 MB DDR II SDRAM - 667 MHz - PC2-5300
Stroge: 80 GB - 4200 rpm
CD-ROM: Double Layer DVD-Writer
Display Screen: 15.4" TFT active matrix 1280 x 800 ( WXGA )
Card Reader 5 in 1, Bluesoul, A Fingerprint Reader, 5.1 CH sound, SRS sound.
Video Card: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (256 MB)
Now, the sell??s man told me that all the parts in the G20 are dedicated and exactly similar to desktop parts. Meaning, that I can upgrade the laptop normally as if I am upgrading a Desktop (Processor, Sound Card, Video Card, Ram). Is that True? And If so, Can I Replace my CD-ROM with a H-DVD one as well? Finally Do you recommend me to buy the G20 or stick with my P1 and why?
Please help, I waiting for your replays.
Regards,Oh man, wasnt I clear enough? Its a little bit annoying, two people already told you:
You cannot upgrade ANYTHING on that machine. NOTHING!
You can just put more RAM into it. But thats the end of line. No VGA, no CPU etc...
And if the vga card is REALLY dedicated, then where would you try to get another if no one excepting toshiba provides just 1 model of that vga especially for that machine.
You have to dig it that a notebook is ABSOLUTELY NO DESKTOP and is NOT UPGRADEBLE.
That means no replacing of parts like in a desktop.
Sorry for my rough words, but I thought it was clear and I am not writing in chinese. :)

It is not easy to give you some precise information about units from Japan. I am not familiar with units produced in Asia and it will be interesting to know which components are built in.
The only thing that I can recommend you is to check Installations instructions http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/qosmio/g20/xp/install-qog20-xp-na.zip and install all stuff listed there and be careful about installations order.
