Qosmio G20 boot problem

I have Qosmio G20 notebook, I got error message that my WinXP lost some system file and didn't boot. I tried to boot from new WinXP (I lost rescue disk), but my installation program hunged up after 1 minute.
I tried several other bootable disks including Linux but failed. I suspect that problem in BIOS, I downloaded BIOS from Toshiba site, but I didn't find any PDF files with instruction how to create bootable CD for BIOS updating mentioned on Toshiba site.
Maybe problem is in CD/DVD recoder.
What is alternative way to boot my Qosmio G20, I have no USB floppy?

To be honest I cannot imagine the BIOS can be responsible for described issue. It can really be HDD problem. Maybe some bad sectors? It is pretty suspect that Linux installation failed too.

  • TV-out problem with a Qosmio G20 - Scart option disappeared

I have a problem with my video board and its driver.
    I have got a Qosmio G20 with a Nvidia GeForce Go 6600.
Yesterday when I boot my notebook i have seen that some setting were disappeared.
I have tried to connect the pc with the TV in the way described here: http://support.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB4A00TK000MR01.htm
but the option scart in the tv format menu was disappeared and it was disappeared in bios setting too.
I have tried to reinstall the display driver but I haven't solved my problem.
Now i can't connect the pc with tv and this is a very big problem for me.
Please help me if you can.
thanks. (and sorry for my very bad english)

    Hi
Maybe the scart cable malfunctions or is wrong?
Some cables have a wrong PIN assignment and therefore the TV connection not functions
In my opinion the cable should be checked
The other reason for the missing PAL scart option in the BIOS could be a wrong DMI setting. But this can be checked only by a ASP.
So try to contact the technician guys and talk to them about the problem of missing PAL scart option in BIOS.

  • Qosmio G20-106 cooling system problem

I bought Qosmio G20-106 with XP Media Center and other cool stuff in Vienna a few days ago, and brought it home (Sarajevo, Bosnia&Herzegovina) yesterday and turned it on for the first time. It worked perfectly for first ten hours. After that I constantly get the message about "Cooling system problem" and to repair my notebook, and click OK.
My CPU temperature is 57C most of the time, and it raises up to 70-80C max. I also hear cooling fans running from time to time.
The system sometime slows down, but most of the time it works fine and fast.
Please give me some advice what should i do, cause I cannot take it back to Vienna just for this!
    Thank you!

    Hello Dario
I am very often on this forum but I have never heard about this problem on Qosmio notebook. I really dont know why this happen. Please check this page http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_gaspLocator.jsp?pf=true .
There you can find an Authorized service partner in Sarajevo. Try to contact them and explain this issue with your Qosmio. I hope that they can help you. If not you must exchange it someday by dealer where you bought it.
If you find out more about this problem please let me know why this happen. I am very interested about that.
    Good luck!

  • Qosmio G20 error message: problem with cooling system has been detected

I am attempting to fix a Qosmio G20 (which is about 3 years old, so no longer in warranty).
The error message is: Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected.
I have managed to remove the outer case and observe the machine working, and basically one of the fans is not operating at all. The fan which is nearest to the power connector seems to be working fine (it seems to spin quite a lot, dont know if this is normal), it is the other fan which does not seem to move at all.
When I reattached the case and switched the machine on I noticed after a few minutes that the heatsink vent of the working fan got quite warm, whereas the vent of the non-working fan stayed cool.
I have cleaned the fan of dust and have also altered the BIOS to battery mode from high performance mode, but still the problem exists.
I would be grateful if someone could advise whether the problem is the fan or something else.
If the fan is the problem, where can I buy one from (I live in the UK)?

    Hi
In my opinion there could be something wrong with the cooling module and the replacement would be necessary.
Usually this should be done by an authorized service provider (ASP) in your country.
The technicians could replace it with a new part and also could renew the thermal grease which is placed between the cooling module and CPU.
Therefore contact the ASP in your country and ask for the further handling!!!
By the way; you can purchase the cooling module also from the ASP!!!
    Good luck

  • Qosmio G20-102: RAID problem when installing windows xp media center

First I didn't find the raid driver for my qosmio. I tried another Qosmio G20's RAID driver but when it reachs the stage when I ask windows to format the C driver it shows me an error. It says that it finds an error in the file KR10N and it ends there.
please help me and thank you.

    Hi
It seems that the Qosmio G20-102 belongs to the PQG20E series.
Searching on the Toshiba European driver page I found the RAID driver v1.03.0008 for Windows XP MCE (can be used also with XP Pro).
You will need an external USB FDD to include this driver into the OS.
But note; after the RAID driver installation you shouldnt format the HDD or create a new partition because this will delete the RAID driver from the HDD and the OS installation fails!
I hope I could help you would also appreciate a feedback ;)

  • Qosmio G20 Vista drivers? Not needed to install Windows Vista

    Hello,
I am new at this forum. My name is Francisco and I live in Brazil. I own a Toshiba Qosmio g20_105 and it is running Windows Vista Ultimate EN RTM 6000 without problems.
To do this, you must perform a fresh install of Windows Vista. The drivers for network (Intel PRO100),for audio (Soundmax), for TV (Toshiba PCI Tuner), modem (toshiba modem), Alps pointing device are installed directly from microsoft. You must install Toshiba nvidia display driver, Toshiba Bluetooth (monitor and stack), Toshiba texas flash media driver, toshiba RAID (driver and utilities), toshiba remote control manager and ConfigFree for Windows Vista.
You must have the Toshiba RAID drivers to install from the windows Vista DVD. Otherway, Windows does not recognize Toshiba RAID 0 and RAID 1.
Below some pictures of my G20 Desktop screen:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen1.jpg
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen2.jpg
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen3.jpg
And here is an example of using deskscapes animated backgrounds with Windows Vista, called dreamscene.
    It is in paused mode
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen4.jpg
To perform a fresh install of windows Vista:
Please, download the Toshiba RAID drivers from here:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/raid.rar
    1. Copy the contents of this archive onto a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive.
    2. Insert your Microsoft Windows Vista Edition Bootable DVD.
    3. Power on your computer and press F12 to display the boot menu.
    4. Choose the option to boot from the CD/DVD drive.
    5. On the first setup screen, choose your language options then press "Next".
    6. Press "Install Now".
    7. Type in your Product Key then press "Next".
    8. Accept the license terms by checking the box then press "Next".
    9. When asked "What type of installation do you want", press "Custom (advanced)".
    10. When asked "Where do you want to install Windows", make sure your media containing the Toshiba RAID drivers is connected to the computer, then click on "Load Driver".
    11. Browse to the location you have copied the RAID drivers to then press "OK".
    12. Setup will return to the previous screen, but it will show that you have selected the TOSHIBA RAID driver.
    13. Make sure the TOSHIBA RAID driver is selected then press "Next".
    14. Continue the installation of Windows Vista as normal.
Now you will need the Toshiba drivers for your Qosmio G20:
    See the Device manager info:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiodrivers1.jpg
    Drivers:
    1. SD memory controller
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/SD_memory.rar
    2. Bluetooth monitor and stack
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/bluetooth_mon.rar

    3. Nvidia display driver GeForce Go 6600
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/nvidia97.52.rar
    4. Texas FlashMedia controller

    And finally the Toshiba utilities:
    Toshiba Configfree
    Toshiba Assist
    RAID utilities
    Remote control manager
    Toshiba SD Memory utilities
    That's it...
So I must tell to you that Toshiba Qosmio G20 is Windows Vista Ultimate capable, indeed.
Hope this helps people who need and want to install Windows Vista Aero on their Qosmio G20 machines.

    open the Device manager
look for the Video adapter/nvidia Gforce go6600
    Driver update options
Look for a driver in computer
Choose a list of device drivers in computer
    With disc...
Lool for the place you've extracted the nvidia 97.52.rar
Find the nvts.inf and open it
You will come to the following screen:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmionvidiainstall.jpg
From a list choose your video card (go6600) and install it.
If you think it is difficult, please see the VIDEO Nvidiainstall.avi:

5.SoundMAX integrated digital audio. Driver 5.12.1.5410
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/soundmax5.12.1.5410.rar
run the setup.exe and at first remove the driver you have installed on your Qosmio G20.
    reboot the computer
Run the setup.exe again and install the new driver. At some install point, Windows Vista will need a confirmation, if you trust Analog devices incorporated to goes on..

  • Re: Qosmio G20 blocked on JBOD in the BIOS

    Hi,
I have a problem with the Toshiba Qosmio G20-109 .
The system does not start, the two hard drives in JBOD (unable to start Windows).
    HDD1 - 120GB
    HDD2 - 250GB
So I wanted to put the first HDD 1 1RAID-0 using the method described in the manual : I entered the code 1 2 3 4 and I pressed Enter.
The problem is that once entered the BIOS code remained frozen and blocked.
I tried everything , I 'm not despairing by reaching install an OS.
I hope there is a solution.

    It's simple.
    1RAID-0: HDD 1
    JBOD: HDD 2
DVD Drive does not boot a modified Windows. I had an official version that starts but does not have the driver.
I created a CD with the driver using nLite but he did not recognize.
I found on the internet a CD Win XP SP3 Toshiba OEM.
Miraculously, he possessed the RAID drivers and recognized the hard drives that allowed me to install Windows.
I installed Windows on the HDD 1 and I just formatted the HDD 2.
Thereafter, I installed Windows 7 with the driver.
    Toshiba RAID: 1.11.17
    Toshiba RAID Virtual Device: 1.1.0.0
I updated the firmware of the DVD drive : D100> D101> D102 it allowed me to start the CD created with nLite.
All drivers are up to date for Windows 7.
Only the buttons to the TV does not work (touch keys) !!

  • Qosmio G20 - Unable to initialize 320GB drive - JBOD to 1RAID-0

    Hello, fellow Toshiba users,
at first I apologize if this question has already been answered, but I failed to find existing answers to my problem.
A colleague of mine has a Toshiba Qosmio G20 with two 80 GB disk drives. Large 17 inch "surf-board-sized" laptops aren't my cup of tea, but the Qosmio served him pretty well.
We tried to upgrade both aging hard drives in his laptop. Having considerable experience in replacing the laptop drives I didn't expect any particular surprises, but I was wrong.
We tried to replace the original drives
bay 1: 80 GB Fujitsu drive, system
bay 2: 80 GB Fujitsu drive, data, RAID off
    with the new ones
bay 1: 320 GB WD Scorpio drive
bay 2: 320 GB WD Scorpio drive.
The G20 BIOS is v1.30, the latest version. It recognizes the new drives' - but marking one of the new drives as 1RAID-0 fails. After trying to "initialize" the 320GB drive in bay 1 as 1RAID-0, on the third page of G20's BIOS, there is some disk activity, however the drive remains in JBOD mode.
Being unable to mark the 320 GB drive as 1RAID-0, I am unable to use the 320GB drive as a system drive.
If the original system drive is cloned to a new 320GB drive it fails to boot. Booting XP *starts* but subsequently fails with STOP 0x7B - in other words, the infamous INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE blue screen when Toshiba RAID driver is loaded during Windows bootup.
Installing windows from plain-vanilla CD, of course with slipstreamed Toshiba driver, remains impossible. The Windows setup only "sees" the drive in bay 2.
When the system drive is put in secondary bay and G20 is booted from it, Windows XP starts successfully. However, the drive in bay 1 is inaccesible from Windows, it remains offline in Toshiba's RAID console. So booting from drive in bay 2 isn't an option, too.
A similar problem where the owner failed to install a 200GB system drive is described here
    Link: http://tinyurl.com/38wokw
That owner, however succeeded in installing a 100GB drive and we resorted to 80GB drive as a system drive, and upgrading only the drive in bay 2 to 320 GB.
I understand what happens when the drive is "initialized" in BIOS. Toshiba's BIOS only marks the drive as 1RAID-0 and it fails on 320GB drive. I'll refrain from stating my opinion on such practice.
My question is - if it is possible, how to *manually* mark the 320 GB drive as 1RAID-0?
Using a hex editor, dd or something similar is no problem. A partial answer would also be to know the largest drive size that *can* be successfully marked as 1RAID-0 in G20's BIOS.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
Im not 100% sure what could be wrong by I presume the 320GB HDD size could be too large!
How about the 100GB or 120GB HDDs?
I think you should test it because usually the most of the BIOS supports an HDD size limitation and therefore not all sizes are supported.
But note; using the 1RAID-0 (striping) configuration, the size seen by the OS is twice that if the smaller of the two HDD units in the RAID configuration. Using the RAID-0 all data on both disks will be lost, even if only one of the two disks drive fails.

  • Qosmio G20: Can't read Roco brand DVD+RW disc

I have Roco brand 8x DVR+R and the Q G20 wont recognize the disc. I think it may be due to the Brand Roco since the Sony DVD+RW works fine except I cant save the video from the Sony to my HD.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

I have solved this problem using Sonic Record Now!
I was able to copy my DVD using the Sonic Record Now that came with my Qosmio G20 to a Roco Brand DVD +RW. Once I made a copy of the orignal DVD, it did not work until I closed the Record Now and opened my media player. I could open using Real, Windows Media Player and WinDVD. None of these programs could read the DVD prior to recording and they could not format the disc.
    Thanks

  • Qosmio G20 VGA in for connecting to XBox 360

How can i connect a Xbox 360 to the qosmio using a VGA HD cable like this?
    http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360vgahdcable/
Is it possible to use the fantastic monitor of the Qosmio to play?
    Any help apreciated

Mores is right, there is no VGA input on the Qosmio G20 (I wish there was though), you have to use an S-Video connection from your Xbox. Using the Qosmio player works perfectly well, there's no delay at all, the only problem I had was the video quality was utterly terrible. S-Video out from my 360 to a TV was fine, but input into the laptop looked awful, oh well!
    Cheers,
    Steve

  • Is it possible to connect satellite dish directly to Qosmio G20?

    Hy everyone,
I have a Qosmio G20-PQG21. The receiver is 60 meters away from laptop position. In this case the channel cannot be changed. The problem this person want to change the channels. The problem is quite simple... can i connect the coaxial cable from dish directly to tv tunner and setup the program guide? or do you have another solution for my situation?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
In my opinion its not possible to connect the satellite cable directly to the Qosmio.
You cannot also connect the TV directly with the satellite dish. Its the same case on the notebook. You need a sat receiver between the notebook and sat dish.
    There are two possibilities:
1.) You will buy a longer cable from the sat dish to the receiver and place the receiver nearer notebook.
2.) You will place the notebook nearer the sat receiver ;)

  • AV cable from Qosmio G20 to Mini HiFI Stereo System Speaker

    Hi
When I connect my Qosmio G20 to my stereo using that AV cable (with red, yellow and white jack) and my Qosmio includes a cable that joins this 3 cable to the laptop's line for headphones.
The problem is, it only sends the sound to one speaker if I swap the cable then the just other speaker works and the previous not.
I've already tried the speaker/sound setup to all of the options there and no one made both speakers work.
I tried another set of AV cable and it was the same issue.
This setup works properly if I connect it to the TV but not on my stereo system.
Do I need a different cable?
    Cheers

    Hi
Are you sure you have connected the right connectors to the HiFI???
For stereo sound receiving you will need to connect only two plugs: RED and WHITE.
Ive also connected my notebook to the HiFI via cable 1-2: one plug to headphone jack and 2 plugs (left, right) to the HiFI.
    Everything works great.
Ohh I remember my HiFi supports a controller at the back side to assign the sound to left or right speaker.
I have set it to middle level for both speakers.
Maybe it's teh same on yours HiFI

  • Qosmio G20: Merge partitions

Hello, I have a Qosmio G20 with two 60 GB hard drives. The first drive has two equal partitions, C: and E:. I would like to delete E: and only have C:.
I have tried with Partition Magic, and deleting E: is no problem, but I cannot extend C:
Does anybody know how to solve this?

    Hi
In my knowledge if there are some errors on the HDD the partition cannot be extended or its not possible to make some changes.
I would recommend to defragment the HDD and additional you can run the chkdsk.
The try again to extend the C
