Qosmio G20: Can't read Roco brand DVD+RW disc

I have Roco brand 8x DVR+R and the Q G20 wont recognize the disc. I think it may be due to the Brand Roco since the Sony DVD+RW works fine except I cant save the video from the Sony to my HD.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I have solved this problem using Sonic Record Now!
I was able to copy my DVD using the Sonic Record Now that came with my Qosmio G20 to a Roco Brand DVD +RW. Once I made a copy of the orignal DVD, it did not work until I closed the Record Now and opened my media player. I could open using Real, Windows Media Player and WinDVD. None of these programs could read the DVD prior to recording and they could not format the disc.
Thanks

DMA driver error. CRC error. Burn failled.
    Solved !
I change the IDE cable with one of 80 wires.
    This is MAGIC !!!
The 80-conductor cable was first defined with the original Ultra DMA modes 0, 1 and 2, covering transfer speeds up to 33.3 MB/s.
The cable is considered "optional" for those modes.
However, for any Ultra DMA modes above mode 2, the 80-conductor cable is mandatory.

  • Qosmio G20: Questions about MCE Recovery CD/DVD

I bought this Qosmio G20 laptop few months back. Its cool. I live in Asia where media centre edition is not launched with this series. I have a Windows XP home edition with this laptop. Can anyone tell me whether its possible for me to format this OS and install MCE on this laptop? And where could I get media centre edition's recovery cd/dvd ? What is the procedure to install Media Centre Edition from recovery cd if I get one? And anyone would like to share their media centre edition recovery cd with me would be great.
pls contact me on this email address [email protected]
    Thank you very much (:

    Hi
In my opinion the only solution is to install Microsoft WMCE (full version). I dont believe that you will be able to get original recovery DVD because the hardware is bundled with software and you can just order the same if you lose one.
Like I said you can try to install full version but you must be careful because this unit support RAID and you must install RAID driver at the beginning. The Qosmio player should also be installed before you start to install MCE. Please check Qosmio area on this forum and you will find a lot of useful topics about Qosmio G20 installation.
    Use also option Advanced search.
    Good luck!

  • Pioneer Superdrive no longer reads Apple Brand DVDs!

Just recently i have noticed my G5 has stopped accepting Apple Branded dvds. All others work fine. I think it started after I upgraded to 10.4.4.
Since I upgraded I have noticed the drive makes a lot more 'clicks and *****' as well as the fan underneath the drive spins alot faster and makes more noise than before. Now when I put a pre-burnt Apple brand DVD into the drive, its sort of grunts, waits a few seconds then spits it out.
Curiously the dvds mount in my ibook with 10.4.4.
I think 10.4.4 has shafted the optical drive firmware is there any way I can reload the firmware?

Before this all happened, I could burn to dvd no problem.
BUT I totally know what you mean about having a problem ejecting any disk!
The grinding noise and the attempts by the iMac to spit them out on it's own and then trying everything I could think of to get it to eject... frustrating and a bit scary knowing something is definitely wrong.
It probably should have clued me in that things were only going to get worse.
I've got the extended care, my hard drive has already been replaced (that after only a few months) and now I've got to pack this baby up again and wait for the optical drive to be replaced.. oh no...
I agree, you should get a replacement without charge even if you don't have extended care as it is obviously defective, just like mine.
Hey thanks for replying, I was beginning to think this post was in complete vain.

  • Help, I can't read or write DVDs

I bought a Mac Pro 2.66 2 weeks ago and I just tried burning a DVD. It turns out my Sony D150A can't recognize any of my (ironically) blank Sony DVD-R discs. Not only doesn't it recognize blank media, but it also doesn't recognize any DVDs burned with my MDD G4. DVDs burned with my MDD G4 work fine in both it and my Powerbook G4 titanium.
I've read several posts about people having trouble with their SONY D150's. I tried setting the finder preference to open DVDs in the finder as someone suggested. Well, when I do that it shows up as a blank CDR - not a DVD! I also tried another person's suggestion and zapped the PRAM. It didn't work.
Has anyone come up with a solution for this problem yet?
    Mac Pro 2.66Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   3GB RAM, ATI x1900

Hey All, just an update and a fix for my problem.
I took my MacPro to an Apple Store, and he tried some of the DVD's I was having trouble with on some of the Mac Pros in the store. All the Mac Pros with Sony DVD drives had the same problem I was experiencing. One of the Mac Pros in the store had the Pioneer DVR-111D drive and the discs read just fine! They also read fine on one of the store's macbooks.
The Macgenius there suggested I contact Apple Care and specifically request a Pioneer DVD drive to replace my Sony. I did that, and Apple sent me another Sony drive! So I called Apple Care back and explained my problem yet again. They claimed they can't request a replacement part by a certain manufacturer, only the part itself.
Given the Pioneer DVD drive worked for me at the Apple Store, I went to newegg.com and purchased the same drive (Pioneer DVR-111D) from them and everything works perfectly. And as the previous poster said, burning is fully supported with this drive.
So, if you are having trouble with your Sony DVD drive, this is a reasonable solution. The drive only cost $33.00 and it came in three days.
I hope this is useful to someone!
    Cheers!

  • Can iMac read Dual Layer DVD+R???

If I use Toast to backup my G5 tower data onto a Dual Layer DVD+R disc, will my iMac Flat Panel be able to read it? I've heard that some older drives can't recognize the Dual Layer DVD+Rs.
Anyone tried a home made dual layer disc on this model iMac yet?

These are the formats supported in the iMac G4.

  • Mac OS 10.3.9 can't read new Fantom Drive external disc.

I have a Fantom Drive with Firewire & USB 2.0 capabilities. I use it to back up my MacBook Pro (OS 10.5.8). My MacBook Pro reads the drive without any problem when I hook them up. My wife’s MacBook (OS 10.5.2) also reads it. The problem I have is with my older PowerBook G4 (OS 10.3.9) — it can't read ("mount") the drive. When I connect the PowerBook G4 with the drive I get the following message: “You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OS X can read. To continue with the disk inserted, click ignore.” I click “ignore” and nothing happens. The other two options are “initialize” and “eject.” Obviously, I don’t want to initialize the disk because that would erase the contents. The Fantom Drive is supposedly compatible with Mac OS 10.2.x and higher.
When I queried Fantom Drives tech support I received this reply:
The drive is working fine. Your OS on the 10.3 machine simply cannot read the file system on the drive. Most likely you’re using a file system that is supported on 10.5.x, but not 10.3.x. Apple or Apple enthusiasts may have some software that would enable you to circumvent this limitation, but we cannot offer any guidance here.
Are there any "Apple enthusiasts" out there who can advise me on this?

You would have to do a little research to see if reformatting the
external drive with the older OS X's disk utility could provide a
format scheme that both the newer Intel-based Mac & its kind
of format, as well as the older PPC Mac which uses a diffferent
kind; could both use. Actually, depending on use, the partition
mapping may be the root of the problem. Or something else.
Or if the drive is used only for storage and not sharing between
the computers, some users would use a mapping scheme that
would not allow an otherwise bootable external drive (such as
some use with a clone and a boot copy of the OS X) feature to
    exist in that drive.
Depending on the purpose and intent of both computer types
with the external drive, there are variable choices in format.
Even a Fat-32 windows format can support storage; just like
a USB Flash drive ships with by default.
So, when you decide what format and future use the new
drive may see between those two computers, then choose
to reformat the drive so either one or both can use it. But,
if the external drive does support bootable OS X clones,
and you decide to use it that way, the new Intel Mac needs
a different mapping scheme than the older. GUID for new,
APM for the old; and HFS+ formatting for Mac OS, default.
Of course, I would do further research into this matter and
decide what future use the device may have, and with what
    computer (and how.)
The older G4 Macs generally can't boot from a USB drive,
and so they'd prefer a FireWire enclosure for their HDD.
The USB speeds are sometimes too slow for best use in
the older Power PC Mac. That is a matter of consideration.
If the Mac uses USB1.1 data storage could be slow if an
external drive was used to save large files to, & retrieve.
The external, if the Apple Partition Map were used, and
the drive reformatted to HFS+ this could be used for
both kinds of Mac computer for storage. Since the drive
is in a USB enclosure, it can't be used for PPC booting
even though that format (APM) supports it otherwise.
Sometimes, an older disk utility may not give the same
options in disk tool availability than a newer one; so
when choosing to change the external drive's format &
other schemes, check into what the newest OS X's
Disk Utility offers; the older 10.3.9 one may be OK for
the basic APM kind of partition map & reformat HFS+
for storage uses. System booting for Intel-Macs in
USB2.0 may be possible; booting Macs in FireWire
may be problematic if the chipset does not support it.
And a self-powered external hard drive enclosure with
its own AC Adapter is better for use with boot volumes.
    {Generally, Disk Utility in Mac OS X can do the main job.}
    Good luck & happy computing!
PS: while there may be a way to partition free space in a
drive, without erasing content, the partition mapping may
be something so root-level as to not be possible to change
it without losing the existing content on that drive, to do it.

  • Qosmio G20: Can not burn CD's but only DVD's - power calibration error

    Hi
I'm having some trouble and i think it's very strange.
    I can't record audio or data cd's!
i've used sonic reducer, as nero, as windows media player..tried 3 different brands of cd'r and i can't burn audio or data files in any of those..BUT...on the other hand i can burn DVD'S...this is very strange right?
Ps: when i record with nero i keep having this message on the relatory of the burning process : "power calibration error" but only i when i try to burn cd´s.. dvd's recording doesn't have this problem
do i need to update some drivers?
please any help would be super or i will have to make a big trip to solve the problem on the laptop shop.
    regards

"Power calibration" - When burning a CD the drive tries to write a test signal to the disk to set the calibration of the laser. If it cannot write a readable signal, this is called a "power calibration error". The error message usually means that there is something wrong with the media.
Please try to use few different empty CDs (Verbatim, TDK, Maxell and others).
    Check also this page http://www.cd-burner-help.com/power-calibration.htm
    Maybe helps.
    Good luck!!!

  • Can't read and play DVD

I have got a DVD with Quick Time files (MPG) but it can't be played using the QuikTime Player. What can be wrong ??

VLC is good, but mplayer osx extended also works too; if you need another option. It's the unofficial mplayer, but works better imo.

  • Satellite A60: Can't read self-created DVDs

    All,
    I have a Satellite A60 with UJDA760 CDRW/DVD drive.
The drive won't read DVDs (DVD+R not at all, DVD-R sometimes (if the drive is cold(?!?))).
Can this be a firmware problem? And if so, does anyone know, where I can find a firmware update for this drive? (I tried the firmware-na.zip pack from the Toshiba web site, but an update for the drive is not available)
The drive reads CDs without problems.
    Thanks for any comments!
    Wutz

    Hello,
Here is the Firmware update for your A60. I hope this helps to resolve any issues you have. A tip is to make sure that you do not create multisession DVD's. This can render them non-readable. It is a good idea to close all DVD's after you burn them so this does not occur. I hope this fixes any problems you happen to have.

  • G5 can't read burnt Apple DVD's

My G5 seems to be having trouble reading burnt DVD's, made by Apple. I tried them on my TiBook, and they load fine, but on the G5, the computer seems to try, and then just spits them out.
Any Help would be greatly appriciated.
    -Kabren

I think the fastest method to get the data off the DVDs is to mount them in your TiBook and set up a network between it and the G5.
At this time, I'm not sure of what to suggest next. I'll keep thinking, though.
