Qosmio G20 : D-video pinout ?

Hi Qosmio users, I've been trying to output D1, D2, D3, D4 resolutions on a HD-ready LCD TV with no success. I can output standard PAL through the D-out plug at the back of the Qosmio, using the provided D-to-Scart cable, but when I output 480p, 720p, 1080i,... the LCD TV is out of sync.
I know the TV is able to receive 1080i signals, I have tested it with a HD camera video recorder (using component outputs).
So, I have checked the D-to-Scart cable and found that it only carries a composite video signal (plus the left and right audio signals).
Some people have suggested to buy a D-to-component cable in Japan, but I can't understand how it could work because it seems the D-out plug on the Qosmio is not the standard D4 connector as described on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D4_video_connector
(there's no audio signals on these D4 connectors).
So, I'm looking for the pinout of the Qosmio D-connector...
Also, I am wondering if the Japanese D1, D2, D3, D4 analog HD standards are supported by european HD-ready TVs ?
Thanks for any answer,
Fabrice

First of all, what cable did you use for this test?
The D-video to scart cable provided with euro Qosmios is absolutely unable to do this, so it's no big surprise it didn't work. the Component signal is just not transmitted via Scart input on european TVs.
But that's not all..
> So, I have checked the D-to-Scart cable and found that

Yeah that's right, unfortunately, read below...

> cable in Japan, but I can't understand how it could

You're absolutely right. It seems Toshiba Europe decided that we, european users, would have no use for the Component output so they made the D-Connector just a plug to output rotten composite through the "D-video to scart cable".
If you bought your Qosmio G20 in the US or in Japan, it would be able to output Component. (cables supplied with US&JP qosmios are the "D-connector to component" type.)
Even if the nVidia driver gives us the option for D1 -D4, the plug on our european units apparently just won't allow it.
Talk about misleading advertising, or worse, the marketing guys have strictly no idea what they're talking about.
I do have a Euro Qosmio, the E10, with D-connector plug and I have bought the "D-connector to Component" cable in Japan. I have no TV or HD screen to test it yet, but I strongly assume it will not work for the reason stated above.
It seems the D-connector plug output has been "adapted" for european needs (read: its original purpose has been totally destroyed).
What IS THE POINT of using this output plug for conveying a composite signal is beyond me. Especially since we already have S-VHS output which is fantastic compared to composite. No, i think Toshiba did this so that mr n00b-i-don't-care-about-quality makes it work easily on his TV by just having to plug the scart for both video + audio.
Very, extremely sad.
Our only hope would be that the 4 signals (1 ground and 1 composite for video + audio left, audio right and ground for audio (prolly shared with ground for video)) leave some of the pins free for the component signal output.
I have yet to test on HDTV but i would be extremely surprised if it worked.
I would *love* anyone to prove me wrong on that one.
Later,
Alcahest

  • Qosmio G20 = Component Video Cable and High Definition Videos With Pinnacle

    Dear Everybody
I bought my Qosmio G20-120 from Poland which came with D-video to Scart cable. This cable is only capable of transferring Video (CVBS) signals which is pretty useless because Qoismio has S-Video Output already... Which is better than simple Video Output that I can get from Scart.
According to www.toshiba-europe.com Qoismio has supposed to have Component Video output. But it comes with Scart cable instead. I am still trying to get this Component Video to D-Video cable from the distributor. If I wont succeed, does anybody know if and where I can buy this cable in Europe? Or is it possible to make a component video to D-video cable out of D-Video to Scart cable?
As last did anybody try the high definition DVB-S channels on Qoismio by using USB 2.0 DVB-S TV Card.Any opinions about Pinnacle PCTV 400e ??
    Thank You

Yes I do live in Europe. But who says that Component Video Cable is a standart from USA or Japan. I have been using Component Video Cables to connect my DVD Player with my video projector since 2002. Component Video Cables are wisely used in Europe. And its the ONLY analogue way of transferring HD-Video (Plus DVI and HDMI)
What disturbs me alot is that on www.toshiba-europe.com they explain that my computer has:
    Interfaces 1 x headphone
    1 x DC-in
    1 x line-in
    1 x external monitor
    1 x RJ-11
    1 x RJ-45
    1 x i.LINK (IEEE 1394)
    4 x USB 2.0
    1 x Monitor-in (line-in port)
    1 x TV-antenna
    1 x S-Video-in (Composite/Line-in)
    1 x TV-out (s-video, Component-out))
1 x 5-in-1 Bridge Media slot (supports SD Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, MultiMedia Card, xD-Picture Card)
Where is the Component-out ???Promise is a promise. Why do they say it if they dont give it?
Instruction manual also says that : D-Video port lets you transfer 525i(480i),525p(480p),1125i(1080i) or 750p(720p) data to external devices.
How can you transfer 720p with a Scart Cable?? It is impossible.... The only way that Qosmio can transfer 1280x720 picture is a Component Video cable.(Because it has no DVI port) How much does this cable cost anyway?? But the problem is NOBODY is producing it in Europe. I am writing to Toshiba-Japan. Since they are saying that my computer has Component-out so they must get me the cable....

  • Re: Qosmio G20 - multimedia video controller installation

    Hi friends
I have tried to install my Qosmio G20 Windows XP (MCE) with PCI device ..
    PCI multimedia video controller.
    USB device.
I installed it manually and mapped the driver path to "C:/ tools cd "
It gives me an reply that the no driver is found for the device and get finished..
So what I am suppose to do now and make it work...
    tanx in advance
    Raja

If you ran Toshiba Recovery, then the drivers should be in C:\TOSAPINS
But running recovery should install all the required drivers automatically.
I am guessing that its the TV Tuner, so go to the Toshiba website and install the TV Tuner Driver.
If that doesnt work, tell us the VEN and DEV numbers
For XP: Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager.
For Vista: Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager.
Right-Click on the Unknown Device, and select "Properties".
Go to the "Details" Tab, select "Device Instance ID" or "Hardware Ids" in the dropdown list.
You will see something like PCI\VEN_????
The VEN_ number is the Vendor or Manufacturer. For example:
    8086 = Intel
    10EC = Realtek
    168C = Atheros
    14E4 = Broadcom
    1022 = AMD
    1106 = VIA
    11AB = Marvell Yukon

  • Qosmio G20 - HD video playback stucks for 2-3 seconds

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba Qosmio G20 laptop installed win -7 on it and its working fine with no problem.
But when I tries to play HD videos , it is playing a little bit and then stuck for 2-3 seconds it continues and again stuck.
Can I upgrade my graphics card which is currently NVIDIA Geforce Go 6600 with 128 MB RAM.
I tried with latest NVIDIA graphics drivers but no luck.
    please advice
    ABHI

    Hi buddy,
Graphic card upgrade is not possible. Your notebook is only designed for your current card (Geforce Go 6600) so its not possible to exchange it.
Furthermore I doubt that this issue is related to the graphic card
Some more facts would be interesting Do you play videos from CD/DVD or HDD?
Have you tried different players, for example VLC media player?
Otherwise use the Maximum Performance mode as Keany wrote. Battery Optimized mode is not enough for HD playback.

  • Qosmio G20, G25: video upgrade possible?

Does qosmio g-series allows for video upgrade?

As far as I know, notebooks in fact doesn't allow for grahic upgrade in early 2005. BUT...
MXM technology for mobile systems, which was invented by Nvidia not long time ago, allows for graphic upgrade, see:
    http://www.nvidia.com/page/mxm.html
    "Upgradeable Notebook Graphics
MXM, as a consistent notebook graphics interface, provides a design specification for upgradeable graphics in a notebook." In brochure attached it's claimed that this technology applies to GeForce 6 Go series.
Toshiba officials claimed in 2004 that no Sat, Sat Pro, Tecra, Portege has upgradeable graphics. But then no laptop uses GeForce6 graphics.
May be now they use MXM-based graphic chip.
Asking any Toshiba representative to clarify this question and next one: when 256Mb videocards will be integrated in Toshiba products.

  • Qosmio G20 Vista drivers? Not needed to install Windows Vista

    Hello,
I am new at this forum. My name is Francisco and I live in Brazil. I own a Toshiba Qosmio g20_105 and it is running Windows Vista Ultimate EN RTM 6000 without problems.
To do this, you must perform a fresh install of Windows Vista. The drivers for network (Intel PRO100),for audio (Soundmax), for TV (Toshiba PCI Tuner), modem (toshiba modem), Alps pointing device are installed directly from microsoft. You must install Toshiba nvidia display driver, Toshiba Bluetooth (monitor and stack), Toshiba texas flash media driver, toshiba RAID (driver and utilities), toshiba remote control manager and ConfigFree for Windows Vista.
You must have the Toshiba RAID drivers to install from the windows Vista DVD. Otherway, Windows does not recognize Toshiba RAID 0 and RAID 1.
Below some pictures of my G20 Desktop screen:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen1.jpg
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen2.jpg
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen3.jpg
And here is an example of using deskscapes animated backgrounds with Windows Vista, called dreamscene.
    It is in paused mode
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen4.jpg
To perform a fresh install of windows Vista:
Please, download the Toshiba RAID drivers from here:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/raid.rar
    1. Copy the contents of this archive onto a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive.
    2. Insert your Microsoft Windows Vista Edition Bootable DVD.
    3. Power on your computer and press F12 to display the boot menu.
    4. Choose the option to boot from the CD/DVD drive.
    5. On the first setup screen, choose your language options then press "Next".
    6. Press "Install Now".
    7. Type in your Product Key then press "Next".
    8. Accept the license terms by checking the box then press "Next".
    9. When asked "What type of installation do you want", press "Custom (advanced)".
    10. When asked "Where do you want to install Windows", make sure your media containing the Toshiba RAID drivers is connected to the computer, then click on "Load Driver".
    11. Browse to the location you have copied the RAID drivers to then press "OK".
    12. Setup will return to the previous screen, but it will show that you have selected the TOSHIBA RAID driver.
    13. Make sure the TOSHIBA RAID driver is selected then press "Next".
    14. Continue the installation of Windows Vista as normal.
Now you will need the Toshiba drivers for your Qosmio G20:
    See the Device manager info:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiodrivers1.jpg
    Drivers:
    1. SD memory controller
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/SD_memory.rar
    2. Bluetooth monitor and stack
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/bluetooth_mon.rar
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/bluetooth_stack.rar
    3. Nvidia display driver GeForce Go 6600
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/nvidia97.52.rar
    4. Texas FlashMedia controller
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/flasmedia.rar
    And finally the Toshiba utilities:
    Toshiba Configfree
    Toshiba Assist
    RAID utilities
    Remote control manager
    Toshiba SD Memory utilities
    That's it...
So I must tell to you that Toshiba Qosmio G20 is Windows Vista Ultimate capable, indeed.
Hope this helps people who need and want to install Windows Vista Aero on their Qosmio G20 machines.

This is a step by step guide for those of you with problems to get Windows Vista functional on your G20 Qosmios
Use a Windows Vista English Version RTM Ultimate 6000 DVD for installation.
1 Backup your personal files and important data to a removable device, CD, DVD, flashmedia, pendrive, etc...
2.Check your Qosmio player installation. if nedeed, reinstall it with the latest version (multilanguage), posted on Toshibas site (download drivers section).
3.Download and copy the Toshiba RAID drivers to a removable media
Please, download the Toshiba RAID drivers from here:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/raid.rar
4.To perform a fresh install of Windows Vista, Follow the steps below
-1. Copy the contents of this archive onto a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive.
-2. Insert your Microsoft Windows Vista Edition Bootable DVD.
-3. Power on your computer and press F12 to display the boot menu.
-4. Choose the option to boot from the CD/DVD drive.
-5. On the first setup screen, choose your language options then press "Next".
    -6. Press "Install Now".
-7. Type in your Product Key then press "Next".

-11. Browse to the location you have copied the RAID drivers to then press "OK".
-12. Setup will return to the previous screen, but it will show that you have selected the TOSHIBA RAID driver.
-13. Make sure the TOSHIBA RAID driver is selected then press "Next".
-14. Continue the installation of Windows Vista as normal.
    5. Go to Microsoft update and download all important updates available. If you wish you can install your native language, if other than English, from the Microsoft site.
let Windows install all the drivers found for your Qosmio G20.
    6. Reboot your machine and follow with the steps below.
    DRIVERS YOU MUST INSTALL:
    1. Alps pointing device driver (This is from Alps and working fine with your Qosmio G20)
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/alpsdriver.rar
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmioalps.jpg
During the installation, Windows will complain that you are installing an early device driver. Do not attempt to this, Install it anyway.
This is because the Windows driver for this device is originally installed with a more recent date and version from that you are trying to install.
But the driver posting here is the correct from the Alps for your Qosmio g20.
    2. Bluetooth monitor and stack
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/bluetooth_mon.rar
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/bluetooth_stack.rar
    3. Nvidia display driver GeForce Go 6600
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/nvidia97.52.rar
To install the nvidia 97.52, you must do it manually:
    open the Device manager
look for the Video adapter/nvidia Gforce go6600
    Driver update options
Look for a driver in computer
Choose a list of device drivers in computer
    With disc...
Lool for the place you've extracted the nvidia 97.52.rar
Find the nvts.inf and open it
You will come to the following screen:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmionvidiainstall.jpg
From a list choose your video card (go6600) and install it.
If you think it is difficult, please see the VIDEO Nvidiainstall.avi:
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/nvidiainstall.rar
After the extraction, play it with Windows media Player
    4. Texas FlashMedia controller
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/flasmedia.rar
5.SoundMAX integrated digital audio. Driver 5.12.1.5410
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/soundmax5.12.1.5410.rar
run the setup.exe and at first remove the driver you have installed on your Qosmio G20.
    reboot the computer
Run the setup.exe again and install the new driver. At some install point, Windows Vista will need a confirmation, if you trust Analog devices incorporated to goes on..
    http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiosoundmaxinstall.jpg
Continue with the installation and after finishing the process, test the functionallity of the new driver
    OR
If your G20 model is using the Sigmatel HD audio chipset, so you must install other driver than the Soundmax integrated digital audio
It is the SigmaTel HD Audio Driver for Windows Vista Version: 6.10.0.5324

    Hello Pattayamad,
    About your question:
Hi...I'm so confused!!!!....please can someone advise me......Been reading all the posts on this.....What is the best way to Connect G20-139 running Vista Home to a HD Plasma?????........
Right now you will not be able to connect your Qosmio g20 to a high definition TV. Not because the Qosmio, but because you are running Windows Vista on it. The actual nvidia drivers are not working properly to enable the Scan progressive output to your Plasma TV. You can use only the Svideo output, which is not so good. Lets wait for the new graphic drivers for the geforce go6600.
Can i buy a D-video to HDMI cable (searched the net but not sure on what i'm looking for in a cable...LOL).....any help please....i'm no expert!!!!
No, there is not a D-video to HDMI available. You can use the D-video to component cable (red, green and blue RCAs) or you can buy the SCART adapter to component, and use the cable supplied with your notebook (D-video to SCART) with this adapter.
but , if you want to output Scan progressive resolutions with the video component cable, you must use the windows media Center 2005 OS. Not working with Vista.

  • TV-out problem with a Qosmio G20 - Scart option disappeared

I have a problem with my video board and its driver.
    I have got a Qosmio G20 with a Nvidia GeForce Go 6600.
Yesterday when I boot my notebook i have seen that some setting were disappeared.
I have tried to connect the pc with the TV in the way described here: http://support.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB4A00TK000MR01.htm
but the option scart in the tv format menu was disappeared and it was disappeared in bios setting too.
I have tried to reinstall the display driver but I haven't solved my problem.
Now i can't connect the pc with tv and this is a very big problem for me.
Please help me if you can.
thanks. (and sorry for my very bad english)

    Hi
Maybe the scart cable malfunctions or is wrong?
Some cables have a wrong PIN assignment and therefore the TV connection not functions
In my opinion the cable should be checked
The other reason for the missing PAL scart option in the BIOS could be a wrong DMI setting. But this can be checked only by a ASP.
So try to contact the technician guys and talk to them about the problem of missing PAL scart option in BIOS.
    bye

  • Qosmio G20 - Connecting to a VCR

    Hi,
I have a G20 and I want to connect it to my VCR.
I though all I had to was to connect the computer and the VCR using the Scart to D-connector cable and I would be able to use the computer as a TV. I did just that but I can't get any image. Do I need to install any other software to capture the image?
Could you guys give some help on this matter? Thanks!
    Esm

1.Install the win dvd creator from the supplied toshiba cd rom.
2.You must connect your VCR Scart to composite connection or SCART/composite converter or SCART composite/Svideo converter. This should connect to the VCR OUT on your VCR
3.Connect the above leads to the composite IN on your Qosmoio or Svideo IN(If you use S video ,the video signal is BETTER and leave the TWO audio (white and red) leads into the qosmio.
S video alone will only give you VIDEO signal,For audio use the RED and WHITE for you sudio or if you want audio dubbing disconnect one and dub any soundiput through white or red leads from any music output source if your prefer

  • Qosmio G20: Can't read Roco brand DVD+RW disc

I have Roco brand 8x DVR+R and the Q G20 wont recognize the disc. I think it may be due to the Brand Roco since the Sony DVD+RW works fine except I cant save the video from the Sony to my HD.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

I have solved this problem using Sonic Record Now!
I was able to copy my DVD using the Sonic Record Now that came with my Qosmio G20 to a Roco Brand DVD +RW. Once I made a copy of the orignal DVD, it did not work until I closed the Record Now and opened my media player. I could open using Real, Windows Media Player and WinDVD. None of these programs could read the DVD prior to recording and they could not format the disc.
    Thanks

  • Qosmio G20 VGA in for connecting to XBox 360

How can i connect a Xbox 360 to the qosmio using a VGA HD cable like this?
    http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360vgahdcable/
Is it possible to use the fantastic monitor of the Qosmio to play?
    Any help apreciated

Mores is right, there is no VGA input on the Qosmio G20 (I wish there was though), you have to use an S-Video connection from your Xbox. Using the Qosmio player works perfectly well, there's no delay at all, the only problem I had was the video quality was utterly terrible. S-Video out from my 360 to a TV was fine, but input into the laptop looked awful, oh well!
    Cheers,
    Steve

  • Qosmio G20: Logitech quickcam driver doubles all media speed

When I install the Quickcam Fusion driver on my Qosmio G20, the weirdest thing happens...
All the sounds/video on the computer (music, mic, video, etc.) seems to get doubled in playing speed, how in the world is this possible??
Is the Quickcam Fusion driver not compatible with the G20?? Something must have gone completely wrong.
It all fixes itself when I remove the cam driver again...
I really need help with this one!

It looks like the quickcam driver cased this very strange behavior
Why you dont contact the cam manufacture and ask for the support.
Maybe the guys know more about this problem and offers any driver updates or quickfixes.
