Qosmio G30-162 - BIOS update problem

Hi, I have a problem with updating the BIOS on a Qosmio G30-162 which appears to be running the following version: -
Version 1.20
DMI Version 2.3
BIOS date 01/21/06
Every time I run the V3.90 update it says that it is not valid for this machine.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
Many thanks
The BIOS update I am trying to run is V3.2.9 (P0038v390.exe)
When I run the files the update says that "This computer is not supported".
Many thanks

PauPau, many thanks for your help - absolutely spot on
Still not sure how that module was uninstalled as it was a factory install of XP MCE!
However, BIOS updated successfullky after download and install of Toshiba Common Module 6.04.00
Again, many thanks

  • Qosmio G30-189 BIOS Update to support Intel Core 2 Duo ( MEROM )

    Hello !
Can you tell when Toshiba will release a BIOS Update to support the new intel core 2 duo mobile cpu.
The actual BIOS 1.4 does not recognize the new cpu type.
As Toshiba delivers a core 2 duo based qosmio in USA G35-650 a bios should be availble.
For sure I now that this makes the gurantee go away.
    Please help.
    Greetings
    Marcus Reichert

Hmm, yes sure - i work in IT and I think I repaired 5000 notebooks ... I am certainly not mad at you !
I am happy that anyone answeres me ....
So, I have here an Qosmio G30-145 and the G30-189 - they are absolutely identical.
Only the Video Ram is smaller and a different CPU is inserted.
In the US there is the G35-650 - also nearly the same - and this uses a creo 2 duo.
Be sure Toshiba will not build different units - they just change the name and include some minor changes to config ( pal and ntsc etc. )
You will be sure to see a G30 with Core 2 Duo very soon here in europe or germany and then bang - it will be the same hardware with a different bios - I BET !!!
Yes, I know the power Saving Tool and I agree with you in all points.
BUT windows XP, Linux and Vista do also habe power schemes and controll the fans - the Toshiba tolls adds only more features.
I think the actual bios accepts now the core 2 duo, but still has problems with the power scheme - Intel says the CPUs are nearly comaptible.
I have tested Core 2 Duos, Asus and other - no problem at all.
I think if we wait we get a bios which fixes all, problem is I need it know.
    Have a nice weekend

  • Qosmio X500 - NEW BIOS update - 1.90

Found a new BIOS update 1.9 on the Australian Toshiba Website. This morning it was showing version 1.40, but now it says version 1.90. I will try it on my X500 when I get home tonight, see if it fixes the Sleep-wake up issue.

  • MSI z77a GD80 PCI-e running at 8x and Bios update problem

Hi guys, first of all, sorry for my bad English, this is also my first topic, i recently bought a new PC, the spec is:
    i7 3770k @4,3ghz
    Corsair H80
    MSI z77a GD80 bios 1.2
    GTX 680 lightning
    8gb ddr3 1600mhz cas9 G.Skill
    1TB HDD WD Caviar Black
    Asus xonar DX
The problem is, since the first bios, i can't run my PCI-E at 16x, i know when my card is idle the PCI-E goes to 1.1@4x , but when it's in use, it turns to PCI-E 3.0@8x   , I'm also waiting for bios updates to check if it solves my problem, but when i try to download the new version 1.3, the download fails ( I'm trying to download with Live update 5 )m is there somebody that can help me solve this problem pls?
    I've tried until now:
Replace the card into the first PCI-E slot again
    Clear the PCI-E slot
Update to bios 1.1 and 1.2 ( 1.3 is not even downloading )
Set PCI Gen 3 from Auto to disable, and it keeps running with PCI-E 3.0@8x
    Thx for any help !

As per the manual, the VGA must be in the primary slot to run 16X. BIOS setting for graphics 3.0 should be set to Auto.
    Do not use Live Update for BIOS updates. Too many borked boards are the result. Use the forum's USB method;

Just curious. If I installed Add-on card that run at PCI-E 4X on 3rd slot (2nd slot is empty) what's configuration will apply ?

  • Qosmio G30 and vga/pcb problems

My Qosmio G30 has developed a vga/pcb problem.
Toshiba engineers tell me the vga/pcb is corrupt and needs to be replaced but since this is built-in the whole mother board must be replaced.
The cost for this is nearly half the cost of the original machine and much more than many new Toshiba notebooks.
Anyone have similar problem or experience anyone have any suggestions.
    Edited by: ADMIN

To me this clearly sounds like the problem that stroke me last weekend - obviously the NVidia GPU died and causes the trouble. Check if your machine is still under warranty - if not i would claim goodwill.
If the repair-costs are too high for you i would sell it on Ebay and get another machine as the technology level is two years (which is a century in computer-business) and you can get better performance at a lower price-point - even if it hurts to let the G30 go.

  • Qosmio F50-10Z Bios update crashed - how do I reset cmos?

I have a Qosmio F50-10Z and as prompted by toshiba I downloaded the Bios update and began to install.
My screensaver came on and the whole thing crashed.
Would not turn off (even after holding down power button for 15 secs).
Took battery out and then put it back in. Computer powers on but screen is blank and won't boot up.
Tried to take it apart to flash the bios by taking out rtc/cmos battery (whatever it's called) but can't find the battery and got to the point where I wasn't willing to take it apart any further (has no-one else ever taken one apart?
Couldn't find information or diagram or photo of where the battery was on net...manual for laptop really unhelpful)
Have found comments about crisis disks but I don't know what this means.
So, how to I reset bios?
Please help - you are my only hope.

Thanks for your comments. Do you know where I can download a Bios flasher or Bios recovery crisis disk from? There seem to be a lot floating around forums but I cannot find anything specifically for my laptop. Am I missing something on the Toshiba website? I have seen people mention downloading a bios flash utility from toshiba (specifically for the F45) but can't figure out where they are getting this from...
In response to your recommendation - I know that is what I am encouraged to do but I'm in the UK - my nearest Toshiba recommended technicians are PC world conglomerate - the sort of guys who pat me on the head when I ask for specific RAM (rather than 'some memory, please'), look blankly at you when you say the word Bios, and bang their mouse when the computer freezes! Besides, they want 50 up front whether or not they manage to fix it, and given how many of my friends computers they have failed to fix that my boyfriend then fixed in ten minutes, I might as well burn my money as send it to them.

  • Qosmio X300-13P - BIOS update

    Good afternoon,
I have installed on the laptop OS Windows 7 64-bit (before was Winodws Vista 32-bit). Also I have decided to update BIOS, but on a site I have found updating BIOS only for Windows Vista 64-bit and nothing for new OS - Windows 7.
My question: whether it is possible to establish on Windows 7 64-bit BIOS-update from Vista 64-bit and whether it is safe?
    Thanks.

    Hello
    > have found updating BIOS only for Windows Vista 64-bit and nothing for new OS - Windows 7.
This would only mean that BIOS update is pretested and designed for Vista 64bit. So this is the safe way to update the BIOS and I doubt it would be possible on Windows 7.
But as MasterG wrote, is this update necessary or just for fun? BIOS updates dont improve the performance, they only fix problems and if you dont have one, the update isnt necessary! ;)

  • KT4 Ultra-B BIOS Update problem

Well, I runned Live Update BIOS and found out that I didn't have the newest version. So i downloaded the newest (1.4), and followed the instruction for the installation. After it was installed, every thing seemed okay. Untill I started the PC, then I got an 'error' message:
    CMOS Settings Wrong
    Press F1 to Run SETUP
Press F2 to load default values and continue
I checked the CMOS Settings, nothing I could find was wrong. So everytime I start the PC I have to press F2, or else it won't start, it will just jump back to that message. This is not so much of a problem, but when I have to use the default values from now on it _IS_ a problem, because default FSB is 100MHz, and I loose alot of CPU. I now have AMD Athlon 1500+ 1,35GHz because of that BIOS update. What I really should have is AMD Athlon 2200+ 1,8GHz.
So anyone that could help me with this problem ??

There is a reason why it did not work.
When you buy a board and put a CPU in it, the board may not detect the CPU correctly,
So if your cpu was a 1470Mhz Athlon and the board detected it as 2.2Ghz what would happen?
The CPU would try to run at 2200Mhz and blow up
So manufacturers such as MSI set the CPU FSB to 100Mhz, must modern CPUs run at 166Mhz so by having it at 100Mhz you prevent the board from overclocking the CPU.
Do you see how that is a safety feature?
Now when you flash a BIOS you clear all your settings and the board gets reset to the safety defaults (100Mhz). This also happens when you clear the CMOS using the jumper, thats why it did not work
I assume someone else originally setup the motherboard and CPU settings for you?

Hi, I did a BIOS update  on my desktop last night , now it does not boot up  and the motherboard send 8 long beeps with no video output. It seems that 8 beeps correspond to motherboard  BIOS problem I was pressing ESC and F10 keys to enter Bios settings but no luck...always 8 beeps and no video. Need to access BIOS setting on the screen or do BIOS reset but don't know how to do it on this case. Any help ?...Thanks! HP ENVY H8-1414M3970CM MotherboardAMD FX-6120 , 8 GB RAMAMD RADEON HD7450 VIDEO

    Hi buddy,
You should check the forum content or with other words, use the forum search firstly before you ask something. Failed BIOS update is not unusual and can happen always. The forum contains already a lot threads about this and the only solution is contacting an ASP. The guys have professional tools to recover it.

The Battery of the F50 wont charge, maybe a problem of the BIOS (like U400)?
Question: Where can I find a BIOS Change Log File for the BIOS version released 6.11.08?

    Hi
As far as I know there are not any details on the Toshiba European page about BIOS changes. I searched but I didnt find anything
However, if there is a newer BIOS update for you notebook model then you could update it. Lets see what happens
But there is still a big chance that your battery could malfunctions

  • Thinkpad Yoga BIOS Update Problem after installing Windows 10

Hi all, I've been reading tonnes of threads here trying to solve my problems (which seem to keep getting worse) to no avail. I'm reaching out to anyone that can suggest some help before I end up bricking my yoga by accident or running it over on purpose. I'll give you a timeline of the events. The machine in question is a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 12.5" 20CD-0032USIntel Core i5 4200U 1.60GHz Processor4GB Ram128GB SSDWindows 8.1 64 Bit preloaded (recently upgraded to Windows 10) So the saga begun just a short two days ago. I had some spare time at home and decided to download and install my free upgrade to Windows 10. I backed up all of my important documents etc to OneDrive as I intended on performing a clean install. Said clean install went flawlessly with Windows 10 installing the first time with no issues or errors. Since I had performed a clean install, all my previous apps, including the stock Lenovo apps, had been deleted. I had anticipated this and only really desired to reinstall the app that automatically adjusts the screen orientation when folding the cover back. So in an effort to find this app and any Windows 10 related updates that may be available I went to support.lenovo.com and used the handy Lenovo Bridge app to automatically detect my hardware and suggest relevant updates. While combing through the suggested software I noticed a BIOS update that noted added support for Windows 10. How great, I thought, that Lenovo would have a BIOS update ready so quickly once 10 became ready for mass consumption. I went ahead and downloaded the exe version (not the bootable CD due to the lack of CD drive on the Yoga) and ran the BIOS update. As I ran the update the laptop was plugged in, and no errors were presented, a success message appeared and indicated a reboot was necessary, after a couple seconds the system rebooted itself. Enter nightmare level 1. As soon as the system rebooted, I fired up IE about to look for more updates and......BSOD stating that there was and issue with a driver, after another reboot BSOD again with a completely different file name stating driver file missing or corrupt. Sorry I didn't write any of the file names or errors down. At this point I'm thinking that something is not jiving here between the BIOS and OS. So I tried running repair, and recovery and each time I would end up with a BSOD of some design. It was at this point I made a USB with the Windows 10 x64 ISO from Microsoft in an attempt to run the repair utilities from the USB. Again to no avail. Enter nightmare level 2 After attempting multiple tries at recovering Windows 10 and getting multiple BSOD's through the process I decided to use my Windows 10 USB to simply reformat my hard drive to eliminate any traces of my now apparently corrupt OS and do a fresh install of Windows 10. This appears to have been a significant error on my part. Now I have no OS (BIOS is still intact so at least I think I have a not-bricked motherboard) and everytime I try to boot Windows 10, or 8.1 for that matter, from a brand new USB stick I get constant BSOD's.Sometimes I get as far as the Preparing installation files 22% but am interrupted by a BSOD error at some point. So I am pleading for some help here. To me it seems like the BIOS update was the issue. I was not smart enough to have checked the BIOS version before updating so that I would know what to roll back to safely. What would you all recommend for a rollback and how do I go about doing one with no OS on the machine. I know I'm asking for a tl;dr here but appreciate any advice offered. I really dont want to get to nightmare level 3, which I guess would be a bricked laptop and a bill for a new motherboard or laptop. The BIOS I currently have is GQET45WW (1.25) -Garrett

Thanks for the reply ColonelONeill, It turns out that Lenovo uses an obscure PERL disk image called "eltorito". As such the directions in the link you provided did not work as most common tools (WinZip, 7zip, and WinRAR) cannot extract the image file from an eltorito iso file.  I instead just bucked up for a $50.00 Asus USB CD drive and burned the iso for version 1.25 and 1.24 onto discs. I then disabled the setting in the BIOS that prevents rolling back to a previous version and flashed to 1.24 from the disc. While this appeared to go successfully, as soon as I tried to boot from my Windows 8.1 CD I start receiving BSOD's again during installation. I then used the CD with 1.25 to go back to where I was in case it was simply a bad BIOS update at the time. Most of the BSOD's are driver related (qlfcoei.sys) which I don't understand since there is no OS other than what is on the bootable CD (or USB I've tried both) Is there anyone with a stable install of Win 8.1 x64 or 10 x64 running on a 20CD0032US that can tell me what version of BIOS they are running? My next step is to go back to a version that someone else can verify is working. Thanks again for any help.

  • BIOS Update problem, T15-j1000

Hi, i have a problem when i tried to upgrade mi BIOS with the sp6500.exe, but it crash, and my laptop doesnt start anymore. i Tried with a usb and the HP TOOLS and my laptop still dead....
I have a Chipmax 2 of EETOOLS, so i can reflash the w25q64fvsig chip whit the bios file (*.bin or *.fd) but the files i got from HP.com doesnt work (01961.bin and 01966.bin) , i think it must be encripted, decripted or assemble with some algorithm, because i have 2 pairs of files, (01961.bin & 01961.s12) and (01966.bin & 01966.s12)
The question is: how i get the *.bin for reflash the chip w25q64fvsig through these combination of files? Can any one solve this little problem?
I need just the instrucctions for assemble this file, and the problem is solved!
    Thanks, and best regards!

  • Qosmio G30-162 - How to handle dead battery?

I only use my Qosmio G30 connected to the mains. The battery is now exhausted and thus I have lost use of the computer. Do I have to replace the battery or is there any method of converting the PC for mains-only use? Any advice appreciated.. Elderly user.

    Hi,
No, in such case you cant repair the battery and you need a replacement battery because battery is not repairable.
    >or is there any method of converting the PC for mains-only use?
Hmm I dont know what you mean but you dont need a battery. You can also use the notebook with AC/DC adapter only. Thats no problem. :)
