Qosmio G30-162 in permanent hibernate/suspend mode

I've managed to set my laptop to suspend (via Ubuntu). When I turn on the laptop via the power button I now just get a black screen.
I know linux isn't officially supported but how can I reset the laptop? I've tried running the battery down but I guess that's the point of the feature. Please let me know if there is some way.
Thanks!

The most common issue with a laptop not returning from hibernation is the graphics card, whether it is AMD/ATI or NVidia (Intel graphics card have long corporate open-source support and there are no issues).
The Qosmio appears to have NVidia graphics card, so you should try a recent Linux distribution (such as Ubuntu 10.04) which includes the independent open-source NVidia drivers.
With these drivers, suspend and hibernation have higher chances of working.
(Toshiba engineers are not contributing on Linux support so it's up to the customers to report Linux problems so that they get fixed).

  • Qosmio G30-162 - BIOS update problem

Hi, I have a problem with updating the BIOS on a Qosmio G30-162 which appears to be running the following version: -
    Version 1.20
    DMI Version 2.3
    BIOS date 01/21/06
Every time I run the V3.90 update it says that it is not valid for this machine.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
    Many thanks
The BIOS update I am trying to run is V3.2.9 (P0038v390.exe)
When I run the files the update says that "This computer is not supported".
    Many thanks

PauPau, many thanks for your help - absolutely spot on
Still not sure how that module was uninstalled as it was a factory install of XP MCE!
However, BIOS updated successfullky after download and install of Toshiba Common Module 6.04.00
    Again, many thanks

  • Qosmio G30-162 - How to handle dead battery?

I only use my Qosmio G30 connected to the mains. The battery is now exhausted and thus I have lost use of the computer. Do I have to replace the battery or is there any method of converting the PC for mains-only use? Any advice appreciated.. Elderly user.

    Hi,
No, in such case you cant repair the battery and you need a replacement battery because battery is not repairable.
    >or is there any method of converting the PC for mains-only use?
Hmm I dont know what you mean but you dont need a battery. You can also use the notebook with AC/DC adapter only. Thats no problem. :)

  • Qosmio G30 freezes upon Norton Internet Security 2008 startup

Norton Internet Security 2008 will freeze my computer as soon it tries to load and the only way to go on is to restart the system by pressing the on/off-button.
My notebook is a Toshiba Qosmio G30-177 (Model No. PQG32E-02G022GR) with Vista Ultimate and NIS2007 pre-installed. I have no problems with this NIS2008 version on my other notebook (Qosmio F10 - PQF10E-02300JGR, WinXP MCE).
NIS2007 runs fine on my G30 and I do not have any problems at all, but newer versions of NIS seem to get in conflict with my system:
    1. I am able to install and run the new version, download all updates and adjust the settings. Maybe one or two days later my computer will freeze after start exactly when the tray icon of NIS appears. For a couple of seconds there is just no response of the system at all and the LED's of my notebook show that all HD activity has stopped. After being idle for these couple of seconds, the cooling fan will start to operate at maximum power, creating a tremendous noise I never experienced before, not even while the CPU was running at 100% for some time due to other programs. Forcing a restart is all I can do.
    2. Now this time, I successfully restarted my notebook again (took some attempts) and it suddenly did not freeze. Then I disabled firewall and auto-protect permanently, so there was no freezing upon startup and I just had to manually activate both firewall and auto-protect after start. In order to prevent freezing again after reboot, I always disabled NIS before shutdown. For the next one or two days this workaround was quite successful.
    3. All of a sudden, after one or two days, this workaround is going to become useless, because the system starts to freeze again at the very moment the tray icon appears. In this case, restarting has no effect at all, and NIS will continue to freeze at startup. I also tried to prevent NIS form starting by no longer allowing ccApp.exe to automatically run upon start (administrative tools > system configuration > "startup" tab). This is successful and my notebook is able to start normally, but if I later try to start NIS manually, it will freeze again.
I had this problem since NIS2008 was just released, so I thought that meanwhile a Windows or Norton update might have fixed the issue, but this weekend I gave NIS2008 another try without success. I am almost sure that the problem is not caused by any other software than Windows and/or Norton, because I also tried to install NIS after a full system recovery, thus having only pre-installed NIS2007 and Vista on my notebook. I did use the Norton removal tool and followed the deinstall instructions before trying to install the newer version of course.
My last hope was that the NIS2009beta version somehow would not freeze my system, but it does. It does not matter if I try to run 2008 or 2009beta version, the problem is exactly the same.
What really drives me almost crazy is the fact that NIS runs perfectly for some time, then needs a rather small workaround, and then after some time totally refuses to work. In these couple of days I did not change any system settings, install or deinstall any programs or did anything that I felt could conflict with NIS...
So far, I have no idea of a solution and have to use NIS2007 again.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem?

    Hi !
I use NIS since 2001 and never had any serious trouble with this software.
There could be some compatibility problem, but I don't think that Vista is causing it, because otherwise a lot more people should have the same problem. Even the installation of all current Windows, NIS and Qosmio updates did not solve it. Of course I tried to get help using Symantec's Support and their user forums, but without success. This problem seems to be a rare one (unfortunately for me). I tested the NIS2009beta and even though it's a new version, the PC freezes again when this program starts. And this made me think that maybe a service or setup by Toshiba causes the problem and other Vista users are not affected. It's a strange thing that the pre-installed NIS2007 version is running fine...
    Cheers,
    Mario

  • Qosmio G30 - black screen on external monitor

Qosmio G30 (PQG32E) running Vista Home Premium, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 driver, 7.15.10.9813
I cannot get a picture on an external monitor (tried two different monitors). Specifically:
'Windows Mobility Center' will recognise that a monitor is connected
'NVIDIA Control Panel - Change Display Configuration' will recognise the external monitor ('Select the displays you would like to use' shows 'Laptop Display + Sony SDM-HS73', which is the plugged-in ext monitor)
but no matter what configuration I try, using Fn+F5 or Change Display Configuration, I cannot get anything but a (backlit) black screen on the external monitor.
The monitor is receiving a video signal correctly: when turned off under a laptop-only Fn+F5 setting, it shows a 'no signal' warning, but when turned on again I just get black.
I have tried changing resolution settings for the external monitor. They exactly match the monitor's native resolution. Still nothing.
Tried 'Clone' mode and 'Dual View' mode.
Tried various different orders of switching the laptop and monitor on, plugging and unplugging, etc.
Have installed latest driver from this Toshiba site (as above). Have NOT tried installing any other driver from the NVIDIA site, since it warns to use Toshiba's - but is that worth a try?
The laptop's own screen and all other aspects of video are fine.
It has worked ok in the past (I think before I did the upgrade to Vista, when it was still on XP).
Do I just wait for another driver update from Toshiba, and perhaps Vista SP1?
I'm really hoping this is not a hardware issue, since the monitor is recognised etc....
    Jonathan

    What port did you use?
The external monitor (analog) port or the D-video out port?
As far as I know if you have used the external monitor (analog) port then you should choose the Analog display in the nVidia -> current display
Then you could use the button FN+F5 to switch between the both displays.

  • Qosmio G30 - Media center remote control doesn't work in windows

    Dear All,
    I have Qosmio G30-194,
first i had a problem with the VGA , i send it for repair, when it comes back i noticed that the remote control is not working on windows Media Center, while in A/V mode it work perfectly.
I tried to do full system restore from the recovery DVD, but nothing changed, even i installed Windows Vista with all of its drivers.
Nothing changed also, I borrowed a USB IR received for another remote control it worked perfectly with my remote on windows.
Please advise me what to do, do i send it back to the service center , or there is an easier solution.
    Mazen Habbal
N.B, : My laptop info are:
    Model Number PQG32E-01P018AR
    Thank you in advance

don't expect toshiba to fix problems like this.
they replaced motherboard on my laptop and ever since the remote was not working.. it would turn the laptop on but was unresponsive thereafter. thing's we have tried:
    - install software and drivers for remote again
    - reinstall windows
    - replace reciever
    - change motherboard
    - change remote
    - terminate and restart relevant processes
    - downgrade bios
    - update bios
    - combinations of the above
on several occassions Toshiba told me they were able to replicate and solve the problem but after trying it on my laptop they remembered that actually their one was slightly different.
almost a year later, i still have a non-working remote
my theory is the laptop leaves factory with certain software which Toshiba fail to include in recovery partition and\or bios that is available through them... so once you lose the factory components (i.e.the original motherboard) you also lose some necessary files with them.

  • Can I put Blu-ray drive on Qosmio G30?

    Hi all,
I have a Qosmio G30-163 with an HD DVD Drive (MATSU****A G8CC00031720) and I am currently in the process of upgrading it.
I recently bought a 4GB RAM upgrade kit from Crucial (CT2KIT25664AC667) and am looking into further upgrades.
Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the HD DVD Drive with a Blu-ray drive?
My research has led me to the Sony Optiarc BC-5500A which I have found has the same height dimension (12.7mm) and also the same interface connector at the rear (E-IDE).
I have read in the forums that someone has managed to use a similar drive on a Qosmio and that the drive may need to be configured to slave mode as opposed to master.
If anyone knows if this would work or has any further information I would greatly appreciate it!
    Regards,
    Luke{color}

Well, I sent the same question to Toshiba Support, and they got back to me the next day - How's that for support!
    What they said was:
"we think it is likely that the Blu-ray drive would work so long as it physically fits and it has the same adapter. Older systems will require enough graphics processing power to cope with Blu-ray. This system has the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 which should cope with it.
We cant guarantee that this drive would work but we think it likely that it will but you install it at your own risk.
Prior to installing more modern hardware it might be wise to check that you have the latest BIOS version."
This sounds very promising to me, so I am seriosusly considering buying the Blu-ray drive!
Does anyone have any experience of using Sony Optiarc products?
    Regards,
    Luke

  • Qosmio G30 - system problem after recovery procedure

I have Qosmio G30 - 148 which have Windows XP MCE, when trying to download some programs system crashed and make automatic restart.
I then used a RECOVERY CD to recover my all system and followed the instructions on the CD but when finished and rebooting the system a famous blue screen displayed tell me there's a problem in my system and windows must be restarted.
When reboot in safe mode there is a message tell me that the system is not fully installed. Please run setup again.
Could any body help me in that problem because it's a strange problem?
Note: I tried to install Windows XP from external CD but system did not know the hard disk.

    Hi Ahmed
    I would try to provide some useful hints;
First of all you can install the XP Pro on the Qosmio G30 this is no problem.
I assume you couldnt install the XP on the G30 because your have not installed the RAID driver firstly. As far as I know the XP would not recognize the HDD without the RAID driver.
The RAID driver installation is not very difficult. During the XP Setup procedure you have to press the F6 to include the driver from the external USB FDD drive.
If you dont have a USB diskette drive, then you could use a nLite to create a new XP CD with the RAID driver.
However despite everything Im not sure if this will help.
There could be really a hardware issue with your G30.

  • Qosmio G30-E10: Display resolution switches from 1920x1200 to 1024x768

    Hello,
Qosmio G30-E10 Display resolution switches sometimes from 1920x1200 (my default) to 1024x768 after returning from Standby or Hibernation
i run Vista Ultimate, newest Display Driver from Toshiba Download Area.
This doesn't happened any time, but sometimes!
Any solution for this nerved situation.
    Kind regards
    Uwe Meyer, Germany

    Hi Uwe
A friend of mine has tested the G30 PQG32 series and he has never noticed such issues.
He has set the G30 to standby mode and hibernation mode on different ways and everything looks ok! The display resolution stays on 1920x1200.
By the way; only the Qosmio G30 with HD-DVD drive supports this high resolution.
    Now I would like to clarify the zooming utility questions;
The FN + Space combination does not enable the zooming utility but it changes between the display resolutions!!!
I have used the FN + Space and it changed to 1024x768 or 800 x 600. It depends how often you will use this combination.
The Toshiba zooming utility which can be enabled using the FN + 1 or 2 zoom in or zoom out the images of internet explorer, word, etc
So finally the FN + Space and FN + 1 or 2 are completely different functions!!! Please don't mix it!
    > think, it has something to do with the Toshiba Zoom-Utility, because it is possible to switch back to 1920x1200 with the Zoom-Utility
I think you have used the FN+Space and this has changed the display resolution. This is ok!

  • Virus or technical problem with Qosmio G30?

My notebook is Qosmio G30-149. When I turm in ON, I see that screen is not 100% black, but it has some small white unclear dots. When Windows logo coming up, the whole screen has 10 white vertical lines (each line made with with something similar to the sign !), then compute get frozen and screeb becomes dark. Id I run Windows in SAFE mode, then it is OK. What is it: Virus or technical problem? My Norman antivirus software does not report any problems with viruses. Please help!!!

    Hi,
that sound rather then a technical problem than a virus. A virus is operating more on a operating system level and not before.
After rading your description I would suggest you to bring your machine immediately to a authorized service partner because I assume a serious hardware malfunction.
If you really can see some unclear dots from the startup of the machine till windows with lines appearing after a while then maybe something with your graphics subsystem is not OK.
Grab this link and find a authorized service partner in your country to let do a hardware checkup on your machine:

    Good luck buddy.

  • Qosmio G30: Sony MV cam doesn't work with IEEE 1394 port

Qosmio G30-117 doesn't support my Sony DCR-IP5E (a micro video cam) through ieee 1394 port. I have tried to use pinnaccle studio 9 and ulead video studio 10, but I couldn't see my cam through these programs.
There is no problem if I install a new win xp media center edition (retail pack) and the drivers from CDTOOLS. But I want to use my factory setup of Qosmio,I don't want to buy a new win xp media center edition.
How can I resolve this problem?
    Thanks everybody.

    Hi,
I had the same problem with my Sony-Handycam. It is not a problem of the Qosmio but of XP SP2 and the new driver for msdv.sys.
Workaround to bring this driver back to SP1 (please follow instructions strictly):
You need msdv.sys from a SP1. It may be on your computer, if it was installed with SP 1 before.
Otherwise, you have to get it from someone else.
Remove Camera from Device Manager, if it has been shown anytime (look also for hidden devices)
Reboot in secure mode (F8 while starting) and login as admin.
Navigate to \Windows\Driver Cache\i386. Find the file "driver.cab" and open it.
In the cab find "msdv.sys" and expand it to your desktop. The version must be less than 5.3.2600.2180.
(If you installed native XP with SP2, you have to use the file, you got from someone else instead)
Copy the files in this folders, if available:
    Windows\system32\drivers
    Windows\system32\dllcache
    Windows\LastGood\System32\Drivers
(Maybe you want to rename the original files before)
Change to Windows\Driver Cache\i386 an search for sp2.cab.
Rename it to sp2.old and reboot.
    Your camera should work now.
If not, change the file avc.sys in the same way. You will find it in sp1.cab or have to get it from someone else.
I solved the problem this way on my last notebook and on my qosmio.
    greetings

  • Problems with NVIDIA Geforce Go 7600 display driver for Qosmio G30

A few days ago my Qosmio G30 ( Windows XP) didnot start properly. First the srceen become white and after a few reboots the screen shows a lot figures and after that I get the a lot of vertical stripes over the screen. I only can start in protected mode of windows but the vertical stripes stay. After consultating the Toshiba help desk I find on the Toshiba website a driver for the Nividia Geforce Go 7600.
But I cannot installed it because Microsoft Windows XP reported that the software  have no digital signiture. When I ignore that message the installtion goes on but without result. The computer gives the message that the Nvidia 7600 is not installed properly.
Please have someone a solution of my problem. (Johnnyboy have reported the same problem )

I sounds like a dying video chip, or at least my p100 had simmilar issues when it needed the video replaced.  Odd characters on the screen at random, plus locking up occasionally.  Mine failed from excessive heat.

  • Suspend mode ?? different modes ?? how to ??

    Hi,
I would like to better understand how suspend modes are defined. The goal would be able to do stand by, from windows2k and leave the room quite, but being able to start up at a key stroke.
I have a key that would do a standby.... but all fans ( 9 BTW ) remain working.
Another option would be hibernate, which I am ok also, however it is slower. Can I return from hibernate from a key stroke ??.
The BIOS in the MSI K7D Master seem to have at least two or three different modes for stand by....
    Any hints appreciated.
    Thanks.
    JCG
K7D Master L, 1GB ram, firewire, usb, fx 5200 VTD128 etc etc.. keyboard is a logitech with an special sleep mode key, like a laptop....

    Hi rachel,
Mode transport is saved to the R/3 table TVTR and I don't see any standard middleware object that bring this table into CRM. You might need to create a custom object to map the tables across the systems. Moreover in CRM side this value is maintained as part of a structure and not to a direct transparent table.
    Thanks,

  • Qosmio G30 PQG31E - No XP 32 drivers? Can't update BIOS?

As usual, got a laptop but no recovery CD's :(
Got XP 32 installed (my Microsoft contract doesn't provide MCE) but lots of drivers missing. Toshiba driver page only has all drivers for XP MCE, XP 32 only has BIOS update, Bluetooth, HD-DVD firmwares, virtual sound and WI-FI drivers!
So I tought "Vista on it", but as I checked compatibility within XP with Vista DVD I got a "need to update BIOS" (still has 1.40 - 2006/03/10)!
My problem is that BIOS update always returns "This computer is not supported"! Laptop only has one account, so it's not permissions issue, maybe because lots of drivers are missing? Should I update BIOS in safe mode?
What now? Am I stuck with a Qosmio brick? Without LAN controllers to say the least I can't get nothing done! Will XP MCE drivers work on XP 32?
    Any thoughts?

Friend of mine has Qosmio g30-189 (PQG31E) and WLAn card is Intel.
THIS must be the right driver.
Have you tried to install it in the past?
