Qosmio G40-11D not booting on battery

Hi,
I buyed recently a Qosmio G40-11D. Everything looks ok but today when I tried to boot the PC without main power connected ... surprise ... NO BOOT. Anybody has an ideea on how to fix this please. Thank you for any hint.
Andrei

Hi again,
I finally made up my mind and called the Toshiba support technicians and the problem has been solved.
Switch the laptop on and press ESC and then F1 to get into the BIOS.
On the right hand side of the screen go to AUTO POWER ON = ENABLED.
An OPTIONS box will appear.
On the 3rd line see WAKE-UP ON BATTERY = DISABLED, you should set this to ENABLE.
As i understood it is disabled as a default factory setting.
My thanks to the support people in UK. They have been very helpful.
If anyone still has problems booting on battery please contact your country support team.
Take Care,
CR

  • Macbook Air mid-2013 suddenly not booting - showed battery icon then died

    Hi all,
This morning, I used my Macbook Air (mid-2013) to send an email and check up on my usual stuff, nothing I've not done hundreds of times. I then closed the lid and went to work. Again, nothing I've never done before.
When I got home though, I opened the Macbook and it didn't wake up, which I thought was odd. So I pressed the power button. For a few seconds, it showed an icon in the middle of a black screen that was related to the battery - sorry I can't recall exactly what it looked like, its the first time I've seen it, but it showed an empty battery with a small red part of it left - obviously understood as meaning the battery was flat.
I was puzzled at this; it should have been asleep since I'd closed the lid, how could it have run out? I was only gone for about 8 hours as well, I usually get more battery life than that out of it when I'm actually using it, never mind when its sleeping.
But I thought whatever, and plugged it in for a few minutes to charge it up enough to turn on and maybe see why it had done this. The orange light came on the Magsafe end, but after a few minutes, still nothing.
Cue much panicking and looking around at things, and this is what I've discovered/tried:
    - The battery appears to be charging, the light eventually went green.
    - When I press the power button, the Mac does power on; I can hear the fan inside if I put my ear to it (note that this means its really quiet, its not blowing at full power or anything), and the Mac is getting hot on the left hand side where the power adapter plugs in. It turns on both when plugged in and when its not. So the battery has power and the machine is turning on, it just isn't booting or doing anything. I can turn it off if I hold the power button down for about 3 seconds, the fan stops. But everything else is completely unresponsive. Also, it gets quite hot pretty quick, hotter than it normally does when in use.
    - I've reset the SMC, several times. When I do this, the light on the Magsafe goes green for a second, then back to orange, as though I've just plugged it in. I guess this means it is responding to the SMC reset, but it does nothing in terms of getting the thing started. This is the first thing people suggest with this problem, but I've already done it and while it seems to be doing its thing, it doesn't fix the problem.
    - I've tried resetting the PRAM/NVRAM. This has no noticeable affect on anything.
    - I've tried holding a bunch of different keys when starting up (cmd+R etc.) but again, nothing.
    - I've tried something crazy suggested in another thread; leaving the Macbook partially opening and shaking it, which supposedly does something to the "sudden motion sensor". I wouldn't have tried this but a whole bunch of people said it worked for them, but it does nothing for me. The fact this step didn't work is why I made a new thread; because the issue with those people seemed to be that their Macs wouldn't wake up from sleep/hibernation and shaking it somehow did that, or they just magically woke up on their own.
And at this stage I seem to have run out of thing to try.
I've made an appointment at the Genius bar but the earliest they could do is Saturday, which is pretty crappy and I'm going travelling in less than 2 weeks, so I really need my Macbook to sort out the details since a lot of info about it is on there exclusively.
Does anyone know any reason why this might have happened?
Why would the battery drain so fast when it was supposed to be sleeping?
Why will it now not boot at all, even though it's powering up in some way? Could it not booting be related to the fact the battery seemed to run completely flat, and this has done something to the software or hardware?
Any suggestions beyond what I've tried already?
If I can't get it working before my Genius appointment, I'll post what happens here just in case any one else has this issue so people will have an idea of what might have happened to them.
    Thanks in advance!

You could try booting the MBP using the OPTION+COMMAND+R keys and see if it will connect to the Apple servers.  This would allow you to install the original OSX .  I have my doubts though.

The Sudden Motion Sensor is applicable for conventional Hard Drives, not the SSD that is in a MBA.  Doing that will serve no useful purpose.
You have exhausted all reasonable options and will just have to have the MBA evaluated at the genius bar.
    Ciao.

  • [Solved] No boot bc changed file(Old:not booting after battery runout)

    x86_64
    kernel 3.7.9-1
    Cinnamon DE
I was copying files from an external USB HDD and I didn't notice the battery was running out, and so it did run out.
Therefore it shut down, and now I can't access Linux. (Also tried fallback mode)
Also I'm dual-booting arch and w7, and w7 does boot, it's weird that arch just won't.
So Grub menu does load, but after selecting Arch , it just hangs with one text line and prompt, also can't input anything; it shows like this:
    /dev/sda4: clean, 250964/1638400 files, 2039871/6553600 blocks
That's shown when I don't have the USB HDD connected (the one I copied files from)
And when I do have it connected, it's the same just some more lines:
    /dev/sda4: clean, 250969/1638400 files, 2040885/6553600 blocks

Without the 'quiet' kernel parameter, it says that dhcpcd service failed and it stucks at [OK] Graphical User Interface.
Also managed to get the logs (dmesg,journalctl,xorg.0.log). And with all of your input I realized that I recently modified several files to have another keyboard layouts, which I still haven't managed to achieve. I remember I did reboot after the changes to those files, but other layouts never showed up, so I left those files modified (mistake)
Now the thing is that I thought that I had fixed one of them '10-keyboard.conf' in the above posts, as frank604 suggested commenting out the whole section inputclass. For some reason I Interpreted that as 'coment out only ''inputclass' line'' and never checked the log (xorg.0.log) after the change...
Well now after checking the new log, it says 'error on line 7' so after commenting out the whole section, like this:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "Keyboard Defaults"
    MatchIsKeyboard "ye"
    Option "XbkLayout" "us"
    #Section "InputClass"
    # Identifier "Keyboard-layout"
    # MatchIsKeyboard "on"
    # Option "XkbLayout" "us,es"
    # Option "XkbOption" "grp:caps_toggle"
    EndSection
I typed startx ,it didn't mark another error but it still wouldn't start,so I decided to reboot.
After that... arch does enter now !
All of this just because I wanted to change the keyboard layouts.
Having said that.. the problem was that file I modified and after removing my changes and rebooting, now it boots!. Seems like the 'battery run out while copying files' was not related to arch not booting, or so I think.
    Thanks for all your attention

  • T61 Not Booting From Battery

Hello I just got this thinkpad and it will not boot from the battery alone. it will just go to the thinkpad slpash screen then shut off. I can also enter bios with just the battery in. The battery does have a charge and it is holding it. The AC adapter is new and working. Any help is appreciated i just got the battery for it too.

find a different battery to test in your system.   assuming your battery is good and motherboard is bad is a costly assumption to make, especially without actually having tested either one.
btw, did you buy a genuine lenovo battery or a generic?

  • I1300 1171-9XU will not boot off battery

I'm having a weird problem with my usually reliable i1300. It will not run off any battery at all. I have 2 fairly new replacement batteries that have worked really well in this laptop. Here are the symptoms.
Seems to draw juice while the unit is off, battery discharge level is down after it's been off a couple of days
Will charge the batteries back up to 100%
Laptop immediately shut off when power is pulled.
Will not boot off the battery at all.
The IBM notebook utility will not refresh the batteries
When the power cable is pulled and you try to start it you hear this faint pulsating clicking noise. The batteries work in another i1300 laptop normally and the notebook utility works fine.
I have some spare parts for the I1300 but I'm not sure what to replace at this moment.
    Thanks for any help,

    Thanks for the reply,
I started with the easy fixes first, changed the sata cables, and tried different power supply connectors. Both tests had same results, still boots up on 2nd try. I did not know how soon the problem would re-occur after it has been shut down, my shortest time so far is 25 minutes.

Why only one RAID channel is enabled? Array can't be detected in that way...
Well right now, it is not even set up that way, in my #6 problem solving, it was suggested that I turn the Raid Mode off and try [IDE] to see if that made a difference,"because I don't need Raid enabled for the hardware raid". It did not, it only booted to the "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" window about 60 seconds faster. It is currently set up in this way.
This is how it looks in my On-Chip ATA Devices
    How do I check this?

  • Satellite M50D-A-10W does not boot after battery is fully empty

    I have a Toshiba Satellite Notebook latop Satellite M50d-A-10W AMD A, 15.6.
I have problem when the battery is fully discharged I need use the needle to peform hard reset using switch behind the laptop.... then I can get into boot mode with f2
How can I solve the problem?
    thank you

I guess you are talking about the force shutdown procedure as described in this document:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB3C03JR0000R01.htm
Such issue may appear in case the PC is freezing, not booting or has a power failure.
I think the notebook goes off in case the battery would be fully empty. In such case the system does not shut down properly.
As default state, the system does not shut down the notebook but usually the unit performs an hybrid shutdown. This procedure allows the notebook to boot much faster but this might affect system boot in case something would go wrong while shut down procedure.
You can disable this hybrid mode and in my opinion this is also recommended.
    Details:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB2B03EY0002R01.htm
However, to avoid such issues its very important to perform the shut down procedure properly.

  • IPad Mini will not boot after battery drained after IOS8.0.2 Update

I upgraded to IOS 8.0.2 having skipped 8.0.1 two days ago. I did not notice any unusual problems, but with hindsight a few apps did crash out on occasions, but not consistently.
Yesterday night I let the battery completely drain and I plugged it in to recharge overnight.
This morning I find that logo is still on screen and it doesn't look as if the iPad has recharged. I have tried re-booting a number of times, but it will not progress beyond the Apple Logo. I have tried connecting to iTunes on my Macbook Pro, but no device is recognised.
Having left the iPad sitting next to me while still connected to a charger, I have noticed on a couple of occasions a flash of blue screen followed by black and then the Apple Logo appearing again.
My iPad Mini Retina 128Gb appears very dead at the moment. Any suggestions on revival?
    Tony Self

Try to put your iPad into DFU mode and do a full restore this way. To do so, follow the steps below:
    1. Open iTunes on your computer
    2. Connect your iPad via USB.
    3. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for about 10 seconds.
    4. Release the Sleep/Week button but keep pressing the Home button until iTunes shows that it has detected and iPad in DFU mode.
    5. Try restoring your iPad.
If this won't solve your problem, and you are not able to do a restore via iTunes at all, then take your iPad to an Apple Retail Store because then it is possibly a hardware failure. Here you can find the service options: https://getsupport.apple.com/ProductSelector.action

  • Qosmio F10 does not boot up system missing or corrupt

I've got a Qosmio F10, and I use all the right procedures for PROUDCT RECOVERY DVD-ROM.
I have done all the updates drives necessary as well , but when I switch on the laptop came with a message error:" \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:"
So, now my computer start with boot options, but whatever you choose the system boot again and again...
    What to do??? Please.

Hmmm usually after the usage of the Toshiba recovery CD everything should run ok.
I read on some computer expert websites that this issue could be related to the hardware fault. Maybe the HDD or the memory module is corrupt.
I would firstly recommend formatting the whole HDD (delete also all partitions).
    Then install the OS again.
If it will not solve this issue you could check if its possible to install XP from the original Microsoft CD.
Additional you could check the memory modules. Try to remove one and use only one or replace it with a new one.
But please note that these are only my suggestions and Im not 100% sure if these proposals will solve you problems. Anyway its worth a try

  • MacBook pro will not boot.  Battery shows full charge.

I usually just keep my MacBook pro sleep.  The lasting I try to use it, it won't come unswept.  I tried force quitting.  The battery is fully charged as per the lights on  the backs of the battery.  Nwhen I push the power button, the sleep light comes Alan briefly, but machine Willa not about.  I have Mountain Lion, and ahead no difficulties after it was a installed.  My amacbook pro is ablate 2008 vintage.

I have this same problem.  Went over all of the self help that was recommended then after researching a bit more I have found out that our model and year MacBook Pro has a faulty logic board.  Talked to an Apple rep and he told me to take it to my nearest Apple store (which thank goodness) I have one here.  And hopefully they should be able to do a claim for me.

  • SONY XPERIA Z1C NOT BOOTING SONY/BATTERY LOGO WHEN CHARGED - THATS ALL.

Hello. I got problem with my "new-used" Z1Compact. I get it 2 days ago.
Phone is not starting, only bootlooping with sony and battery logo when charger is plugged.
There is no reaction for power button.
When i turned phone ON(plugged to power) i can "make a move" but i can only restart it, with power+vol, im getting 3 vibrations, and phone is restarted. (after restart when im trying vol+ or vol- i dont get nothing)
At first i thought it was matter of crashed ROM when somone updated, so i get STOCK for EU, and i plug phone to USB( same screen with sony + battery logo) with flashtool, he detects phone in flashboot and flash mode, so ive flashed my phone with D5503_14.4.A.0.108_Central Europe (1280-7864), but with no efect(i wasnt abble to WIPE in flashtool..).
Pc companion does not detects him, there is a Windows pip, but program dont recognize Z1C, but if i turn phone in flash mode( with vol-down) he is abble to detect device, like a Sony/Sony Ericsson.
For Windows i'm SONY ADB Interface Device.(ive installed Flashtool Drivers for all Z phones).
So i dont know what i can do to fix my sony. Any advise?
I'm not a pro in tel-service. Can someone can tell me do why system is not loading ?
No bootloader? Something wrong with flashing ? No drivers in PC ? When ive briked my sony Z1, i was in same situation, but phone was reacting for power, and i was ablle repir him with PC Companion.

If it's not switching on without power been connected then you have a battery issue or the connection between battery and board is faulty so you would need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care and have your device inspected http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

  • Qosmio F10 does not boot

    Hi,
I was playing battlefield 1942 the other day on my F10-100, and it just turned itself off. When i went to boot it up again, the power button turns blue, and you can hear the fan and the cd drive going round, but the screen doesnt display anything, and you cant hear the usual noise that it makes before it loads windows.
I have tried using the function button and the F keys to toggle the display device, and that didnt bring anything up either. I then connected it to an old analouge monitor and tried it again, and the screen remained blank.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? It is only a week out of its one year warranty, and it was bought as a present and given at a later date so it hasnt even been in use for a year.
If anyone could help me with this I would be very grateful.
    Best Regards
    Chris Grant

    Hi
Usually if the unit shuts down on itself so its mostly a overheating issue.
If the temperature goes up to the critical limit the OS shuts down to protect the notebook.
Well, normally the unit should boot up after this procedure without any problems.
But it could be also a different hardware malfunction. Its not easy to say what is wrong.
Did you try to boot the unit from the CD? Did you see anything on the screen?

  • Qosmio F10 does not boot up

    Hi,
my partner has a qosmio laptop which seems to have died. He was using it and apparently pink lines appeared across the screen and it went dead. He has tested the power supply which seems fine. He gets lights coming on but they don't do anything and the computer doesn't show anything.
He's been told it's a motherboard /bios failure and will cost 600.00 to repair. Does this sound like the MB/Bios or could it be something less dramatic and expensive?
    thank you

For me it sounds also like a graphic card hardware malfunction.
In such case only a device replacement will help you.
I dont know if its possible to remove only the graphic card or the whole motherboard must be replaced but in my opinion a technician with some experience should know about such procedures.
I dont the detailed costs but the motherboard and the LCD screen are the most expensive parts on the notebook. Therefore the 600 are not unrealistic.

  • Qosmio X505 Q850 will not boot.

As the title implies I have a Qosmio that will not boot. When I turn it on the power button and power light go on for a second and then off for ten. it repeats this in perpetuity. I've swapped the ram i had in it, put the original ram back in and i still have this issue. the only way to stop it is to pull the plug and battery. the HDDs are fine; I've pulled them and checked them from another computer.
i don't think it's an over heat issue; the computer wasn't running very hot and when i looked at the top of the mother board nothing looked melted and i couldn't smell anything. a couple hours before it refused to boot i suffered a hard shut down, as if i had accidentally rested my hand on the badly located power button, and i had another one when it refused to boot.
i figured i'd ask about that but my real question is whether or not i'm going to be charged $150 to tell them no if i send the computer in without the HDDs, which i wasn't going to do even before i saw that they may or may not reformat the drives and/or put different ones in depending on how they were feeling that day. the issue has nothing to do windows and they don't need the drives to fix it, assuming they even can...
i really don't want to call tech support, I've had a bad experience with them in the past, but i may end up having to... such a **bleep**ty job...

when the computer is off and unplugged none of the lights are on. when i plug the computer in the plug light turns on as red and the battery light turns on as orange for 30 seconds and then goes red. red is the normal color and I've never paid enough attention to it before to know if it has gone orange in the past. when i turn it on, regardless of whether it's plugged in or not, the power button and the "computer is on" light go red and the reading light (i assume that's what the piece of paper means) goes on for a tenth of a second. then it proceeds to loop. if the computer is plugged in and has the battery in than both those lights stay on, regardless of what happens.
i don't have a meter to test the voltage of the cord but it is supposed to be 19v.

You won't lose any data unless you erase your hard drive.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c"key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it.When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've selected the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
