Qosmio G50-13R - Add second HDD

Hello,
I want to upgrade my computer.
Here are the numbers:
Product Name: Qosmio G50-13R
Product Version: PQG55E-05C04RFR
Product Serial Number: 89063721H
I have the space for a second hard drive, but it is empty.
No caddy, no connector.
But the Intel Rapid Storage detects an internal port 4 empty.
How to check what is is that port?
I did some research and I found a document on the material content of my computer. It is indicated that a connector on the motherboard exists for a second hard drive, here are some reference contained in the document:
CN1920 2nd HDD SATA interface connector (20-pin)
Is the motherboard of my computer (see reference above) does have the CN1920 connector?
How checked?
Greetings.

There is a 2nd HDD bay because in the past the Qosmio G50 was released with different hardware parts and supported different hardware specifications and obviously the 2nd HDD bay does not contain the HDD connectors/cable.
The Intel ICH9M South Bridge supports 4 integrated serial ATA Host controllers, so the chipset should be able to handle 4 SATA devices (2x HDDs, 1x ODD, 1x eSATA).
I searched in the internet a little bit and found out that the motherboard supports two controllers/connectors.
The first HDD should be connected to the CN1900 (23pin) SATA connector and the 2nd HDD should be connected to CN1920 (20pin). The ODD is connected to CN1910 (13pin)
However, I think it will not be very easy to upgrade this unit with an 2nd HDD the whole unit must be disassembled and of course you would need compatible parts for such upgrade.

  • Add second HDD(SSD HDD). Which model?

I am going to buy HP Pavilion g7-2225sr (C0X05EA) Sparkling Black.
Is there place for second 2,5' HDD?
If no, what other modern model has the space for extra internal HDD?
    Thanks.

Unfortunately this model doesn't have an extra HDD bay.
The HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 is the only one that I could find on HP's website in the Pavilion line that includes an extra hard drive bay.
Here is a link to that model:

  • SECOND hdd

    Hi,
is a possible to have two HDD in notebook HP350 g1 F7Y79EA#BCM. I want to add second hdd SSD  to make more faster my ntb.
    Thank you
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi:
I just bought a 350 g1 and opened the drive bay.
You cannot add a second notebook hard drive but you could add an mSata drive in the empty mSata slot and use it as storage or a cache.
You will not be able to boot from the mSata drive.
I would just remove the primary drive and replace it with a SSD.

  • Second HDD and HDAPM

Hi all. Help me please to solve the problem with HDAPM. Mac mini late 2011.
The first upgrade - replacing the hard drive. I`m installed WD 750Gb, 7200 rpm and HDAPM (http://mckinlay.net.nz/hdapm/)
utility has been installed. Everything was working correctly - the hard drive heads are not parked in idle time. No "marble drop" sound.
I was happy until the next upgrade.
The second upgrade - add second hdd WD 1Tb 5400 rpm. Now WD 750Gb is work place and WD 1Tb is store place.
But, hdapm utility working only with one HDD.
    Question:
How to correct edit hdapm.plist to work when system start for two internal HDD, and HDAPM do two drives for maximum apm performance?
Sory, but I do not know very well the syntax of XML.

    Hi
You should be able to do it with a second plist-file.

  • Qosmio G50 - HDD light flashes every second

    Okay, So here it is,
    I have a Qosmio G50. I have installed WindowXP Pro 64-bit.
I have noticed that the hard drive light flashes every second. I have spent a bit of time looking on the net for a soultion. This led me to download a utility called 'process explorer' from microsoft.
This utility show me that the active process is services.exe. The properties of this service suggest that it handles 'eventlog' and 'plugplay'
I realise that I cannot switch of the event log, nor would I want to.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
The HDD led flashes always if there any data would be read from or written on the HDD.
The service.exe (Service Control Manager) belongs to the Windows OS and its Microsoft background process which is needed and from my knowledge it cannot be disabled.
    Bye

  • Qosmio G50-11R - Can I use two HDDs?

    About Qosmio G50-11R
Does anyone know if it is possible to fit two hard drives in this laptop?

    >...but there is no connector. Is it possible to add such a feature?
As far as I know something like this is not possible.
The cover is the same for all Qosmio G50 models but some of them are delivered with one HDD only. In this case the mainborad is not the same as in G50 with two HDDs. There is no connector for second HDD and it cannot be soldered additionally.

  • Satellite Pro A300 - Can I add a second HDD?

    Hi Forums,
I have a A300 PSAGDA-02000R and was wondering if is possible to add a second HDD to it. after I removed the panel to inspect where the second HDD goes I discovered that there was no connectors, so I was wondering if you can purchased or have Toshiba install a second set of connectors?
    any answer would be great
    thanks F1R3F1GHT

    > after I removed the panel to inspect where the second HDD goes I discovered that there was no connectors, so I was wondering if you can purchased or have Toshiba install a second set of connectors?
There are no connectors and this means that there is no second HDD controller on the motherboard and this means that second HDD is not possible.
This means also that its not possible to add any connectors or any controllers to the motherboard

  • Qosmio X300-13R - After few seconds the image darkens on webcam

We have laptop Toshiba Qosmio-X300-13R with the chamber built in webcamera. But there is a question.
I start the native utility or Skype, the first seconds all is visible, and then the image darkens and looks narrowly in the monitor that like it is visible my silhouette. If I apply different options, it does not occur. It is necessary to press the button to apply, the chamber again for 5-10 seconds shows brightly and is light. And then again on 95 % darkness... Deleted native driver, Windows Vista puts built in, and in Skype that does not vary. And with native drivers, in the utility (Camera Assistant Software for Toshiba) and in Skype.
What is such and how it to win?
P.S. On how many I have understood, the built in chamber of firm Chicony.

    I had the same problem. . . fortunately I have a solution =)
After you've opened your webcam application like yahoo webcam and the screen goes black, what I do is I open the Toshiba camera assistant software utility and click properties
From there click backlit compensation and night mode. The screen would black out again after an hour or so, when that happens repeat the process, if the night mode is already checked, uncheck, and then check again then click ok when the screen comes to.
    Hope this helps.

  • Qosmio G50 - Repairing windows from the HDD

    Hello all
My laptop - QOSMIO G50 - needs a bit of cleaning up and I was thinking of reinstalling from scratch.
I know I can use the "repair" function which is "hidden" on the HDD which will reset the pc to it's initial installation.
But i still do have a few questions.
    1. I upgraded to Windows 7 quite a while ago. But if the built-in repair function reinstalls the pc to it's initial installation, I presume I'll be back on VISTA and will have to do the upgrade to WIN7 manually ?
    2. More important : when I got the laptop the vendor didn't have anything installed, so when I booted, the installation began. I then got the choice to install either the 32bit or 64bit version.
I didn't think of ever needing 64bit on the laptop so I chose 32bit - which now I hugely regret.
Now, if doing this clean reinstall from the HDD, will it give me the choice between 64bit or 32bit again or will it simply go on with the 32bit version I chose the first time ? Or can I do something else to make sure that I get the 64bit installed this time around ?
    Thanks.
    Lio

    Hi
Before you call tech support I will try to offer some explanation. Maybe this will help you to understand all this.
    So lets go:
    >...when I got the laptop the vendor didn't have anything installed, so when I booted, the installation began.
Of course vendor has installed something. ;) As you can see vendor has prepared two recovery images. After first start you had a choice to choose between two images (32 or 64bit version). If you didnt get any installations DVDs that means your notebook was delivered with HDD recovery image and it was recommended to create these discs. Have you created them?
If yes, how many DVD disc were created.
As far as I know if 4 discs will be created then you will have 32 and 64bit versions. When you start boot-up with disc 1 you should be asked which version should be installed. The same I got with my old Qosmio x300. You can also start HDD installation to see if you will be asked to choose OS version (32/64bit). If not then you can use one version only (already installed).
When you install Vista recovery image it is already activated. After upgrade kit installation you should still have activated Win7 version.
    > I upgraded to Windows 7 quite a while ago. But if the built-in repair function reinstalls the pc to it's initial installation, I presume I'll be back on VISTA and will have to do the upgrade to WIN7 manually?
I dont know which repair option do you mean. If you start HDD recovery option it will install Vista again. After Win7 upgrade the HDD image will not be changed.
If you prefer Win7 I recommend you to obtain Microsoft Win7 installation disc. Check if Toshiba offers all drivers, tools and utilities. So you can install own OS version and be happy.
Using Acronis or some other image tool you can then create own Win7 recovery image.

  • Could I use a second HDD in my Qosmio F50-108

Could I set a second HDD in my Qosmio F50-108...
What should I be careful of?
    What HDD should I buy?
    Thanks...........
    Message was edited by: dpasinis

    I doubt this is possible.
As Im not mistaken the F50-108 belongs to the PQF55E series and checking this model series I found and info that this notebook supports a 320GB (5400rpm) SATA HDD but it doesnt support the second HDD.
However, I would recommend checking the bottom of the unit. If there is an possibility for an HDD upgrade then you should find a second HDD bay with an HDD SATA connector.

  • Second HDD in Qosmio F30

How to install second HDD to Qosmio F30-141? Need some adaptor?

I dont think you will need a select bay adaptor.
I found one HDD PA3439U-2HA0 which could be compatible with the F30.
Its an S-ATA 5400rpm HDD and was designed to operate as a primary HDD or a second removable HDD in the Slim Select Bay drive of your notebook.
The second HDD bay should be placed at the bottom of the unit and should be secured only with one screw.

  • Qosmio G50 - Second clone partition for Windows 7 upgrade

I have a Qosmio G50 with Vista Ultimate installed & I have the 2 upgrade discs for Windows 7.
Is there a way to clone C: (with Vista) onto another partition & use this 2nd cloned partition as the basis for upgrading to Windows 7? This way there would still be Vista to use for programs / drivers that are incompatible with Windows 7 & there would be a dual boot option with Windows 7.
    Has anybody worked this out?
    All help appreciated

Hmm I dont think that would work since you would need a license for both OS's simultaneously. The Win7 upgrade license replaces the Vista License

  • Problem installing XP on Qosmio G50 with preinstalled vista

Hello everyone, just joined, and after some browsing I believe 'll like this place.
I just bought a Qosmio G50 10 with preinstalled Vista and I would like to install XP on the second hard drive to have double-boot. It starts well but after it finishes loading drivers etc it says "starting windows" and then I get a blue screen.
I know the installation CD is good. This portable is new on the market and there isn't much info about it.
Even Toshiba does not seem to have drivers for it to download.
Reading here and elsewhere shows that a driver problem might be the cause, but I need help.
    Thanks.

The BSOD is because XP doesn't have a driver for your hard disk, so it panics because it can't find the hard drive.
I also had this problem, following the steps at http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t124213.html solved it.
Basically, here is what you have to do:
    1. Get a copy of Win XP with SP2 to get the SATA support. Note that it _does not_ have drivers for your HD, so this by itself is not enough!
    2. Get the Intel Matrix Manager "F6" drivers from Intel website ( http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Filter_Results.aspx?strOSs=All&strTypes=All&Produc tID=2101&OSFullName=All%20Operating%20Systems&lang =eng - be sure to pick the F6 Floppy Driver package that matches your 32- or 64-bit XP ).
    3. Download a copy of nLite to use to make a custom Windows XP Install CD
    4. Copy your WinXP CD (all the files) to some folder on your HD.
    5. Unzip the Intel Drivers.
    6. Run nLite, pointing it at the folder you created in step 4. Choose only the options to add drivers and to create an ISO image. For the add drivers, use the multi-driver folder option and point it at your unzipped Intel drivers folder from step 5. You want the "text mode" driver - pick the one that matches your controller (ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI).
    7. When you get to the disk image page, DON'T try to use nLite to burn the CD. Have it create an image (.iso). nLite always locked up for me if I tried to use it to burn CD.
    8. Find your .iso in explorer, right click and do Send To menu to bring up the TOSHIBA burn image to CD. Use that to burn it.
This will get you an XP SP2 CD that will successfully install on your G50. At least, it did for me, using the Vista 64 environment that came loaded with the laptop. You will also need to go into BIOS (er, Hardware Setup) by holding down ESC when you power on the laptop. On the first page, on the right hand side, change the boot order to one of the options that list CD-ROM first. Otherwise the laptop will happily ignore your shiny new install CD.
    Hope that helps!
