Qosmio Laptop NOT REPAIRED!!

I was playing world of warcraft the last week of november and while I was playing - about 10 mins into the game, my Qosmio x500 just shuts off with no warning, nothing. I turned the laptop back on thinking it was just some kind of fluke or the battery died, and I loaded up World of Warcraft again and 10 mins into the game, the same thing happened again. I also tried it with Portal and Oblivion and it did the same exact thing. I had reinstalled all my games, and still the same thing happened. Computer just SHUTS OFF!
I sent my laptop off to Repair December 2nd, 2010 and it was in the depot for a MONTH. I Just got it back yesterday afternoon (1/10/11) and I turned it on and everything seemed to work fine. On the diagnosis sheet it said that they replaced BOTH heatsinks and that all tests were passed. For the first time in a month, I turned my laptop on, and loaded up WoW. 10 mins into the game, the computer completely shuts off!!!! It is ONLY when I play Video Games!!! this has to be a Motherboard issue or a GRAPHICS CARD/CPU ISSUE!
I am EXTREMELY upset here!!!!!! My laptop was in service for a month and it seems that the issues has not been repaired/fixed!!! this is a GAMING LAPTOP. THIS is a $2,000 laptop! I bought this laptop to play Video Games and it needs to be fixed. This is outrageous! I am also a college student and I need this laptop to do my homework assignments!!! this laptop needs to be sent back out and repaired CORRECTLY. I am extremely dissapointed that this has not been fixed CORRECTLY.
I have taken great care of this laptop and it has always sat on a desk! Its sad that I have had this laptop for only a year and I am having this much trouble with it!!
PLEASE this issue needs to be fixed CORRECTLY!!!!!

Toshiba doesn't have employees here advising in any official capacity, and you'd have to actually discuss this with Toshiba's tech support, @ 800-457-7777.
I also recommend you maybe settle down a wee bit and think about this more neutrally. You send in a notebook, they replace two heat sinks and then run it through some basic diagnostics and stress tests for probably 12-24 hours. If during that process it functions normally, they aren't going to have time to run random games and other programs to double check, and indeed I doubt they could log into your wow account and test using that program anyway. Both policy and not having your info would prevent it, and that is provided they didn't reimage the drive anyway to eliminate software as the cause for overheating.
Think about it like taking your car to a mechanic. You take it in for a symptom, they fix something that seems to resolve this issue. Within a week or so it is doing the exact same thing, since whatever part they replaced apparently wasn't the root cause of the issue. This happens all the time, and people don't get nearly so shook up about it. You just need to realize that sometimes the issue is not readily apparent, and the things that you would immediately associate with it as a causal agent can easily be just more symptoms of the core problem.

    Buy a charger. They are under $10 US equivalent on ebay India and you can have it in a couple days.

  • Ghosting Problem Apple not replacing the laptop, only repairing it.

    I am a student and shelled in $ 2500 in August 2012 for my costliest investment ever. and now I have bad ghosting problems with the display and its really diffcult for me to work with this machine. I went to the apple store and they understood the problem and were ready to repair it under warranty. But isn't that not fair and should they not be swapping the entire machine ? I know that Macbook Pro Retina 15 inch has zero repairability and why would would I want them to open my Macbook to a repair after investing $ 2500. I really think apple needs to take this seriously and owe up to their mistake and swap machines !     I get it and I would feel the same way, but unless you can talk the store manager into doing that or go above their head to corporate relations and complain until you get the system swapped, but written warranty standards, they are allowed to fix a problem a maximum of 3 times (for the same problem) before they'll even consider swapping out the entire unit.  Bottom line, the LCD panel in the unit is most likely a pos LG unit and they'll swap it with one that's not from LG.  When that happens, all things should be good as new, but the remaining issue is how well a job the Apple store people do in doing this replacement.  If it's factory prestine and you can't tell a different, then it's fine, and really no different than if you were to buy a refurbished model, but if they do a crappy job, then I agree with you... why should you be out the "quality" aspect of the investment of $2500 when they made a crappy decision and used inferior parts from a manufacturer who they're currently not suing. lol
    Again, if you want to raise ****, call corporate relations and voice your case.  Maybe they do what you want and keep you as a customer or they call your bluff and say that they'll fix it under warranty or you can take it or leave it.  In the end, one less customer for them isn't going to break their bank... this is how they view it really.

    Of course, but note that, when Apple considers a Mac as "vintage" (if it was released 5 or more years ago), they haven't got more parts to repair them and your Mac won't be repaired. If it has got less than 5 years, it can be repaired without any problem

  • TM suddenly reporting "volume not repairable"

    I've got 2 months of backups nicely stocked on my Time Capsule. Yesterday I had to restart my TC because the internet had gotten slow (this happens occasionally). I happened to switch the speed from 802.11b/g compatible to 802.11n/5ghz while I was at it, hoping to improve speeds (which it did). However, Time Machine is now reporting that my backup volume is "not repairable by this computer" and I must "back up data and reformat as soon as possible." HUH??
    First of all, I have no other disk big enough to back up the backup. And would it even do any good, since the volume is somehow broken? But more importantly, how can I avoid losing 2 months of backups? This kind of thing should not happen. Ever.

    Well, the first time I tried it, it failed immediately saying it could not be repaired.
    After scouring the Internet for more information on this BUG, I found suggestions on how to get repair to work.
    Now when I try repair it starts the process but then appears to enter an infinite loop. One time it ran until there was "6 minutes" left. After 24 hours it just kept spewing out the same stuff (continuing to say 6 minutes left).
    I stopped it and started again. This time it ran until it said "41 minutes left". It is still running and has been at the "41 minutes" mark for over 12 hours.
    The thing that ir really annoying about Apple is their arrogant attitude. They think they are perfect, they don't give people any information. When they do get around to fixing bugs many times they don't tell us what they fixed.
    I still think this was a bug that was introduced in one of the latest OS updates and I think it has to do with halting a backup while it is in progress (e.g., closing the lid on a laptop while a backup is running).

    I ran the utility disk and this is what it said.

    Yes, and, I try to restore. I have the T-Mobile sim card in it just to clarify. It will not let me get passed that, it does not accept the t-mobile sim card. i tried restoring it using wifi, cellular, and i cant get i tunes. I am scared that if i take the tmobile sim card out and put the at&t one in just to complete the restoration process that the iphone will lock again and not read the tmobile sim card, then all my hard work has gone for nothing. ( this whole process was caused by me trying wanting to empty my pictures onto my computer because i did not have any storage space left). <--- that may not be as important, but i included it just because.

    From your statements above, it sounds like you never tried to burn a CD for at least the first year that you owned the laptop, as it had a one year warranty on it. While you might have used it frequently to install software,  play DVDs, Blu-Ray disks, etc, that's unclear from your statements. Nonetheless, it might just be dirty-dusty. So, before deleting-uninstalling any software, and given they're cheap, try a CD-DVD Cleaner Disk first and see if that resolves your problems.

    My laptop was stolen that had my itunes installed and was synced with my ipod classic. I now have a new laptop. Is there any way I can transfer ALL the music from my ipod to itunes on the new laptop, not just the purchases? I don't have access to all the CD's etc that I originally downloaded onto my ipod.

    I am using Mac OS X 10.5 on a MacBook Pro intel 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, Intel and Boot Camp / Win XP installed.
    To check my user rights and repair the main HD I have installed 10.5 on my external 500 GB USB 2.0 HD. Started from it and started the disk utility trying to check and repair the Macintosh HD Partition (not win xp). I got following error messages:

    Because it can not repair the errors I have started "repair disk". It says "can not unmount Macintosh HD". Even if I have started from the external disk?
    So I get my install CD (Mac OS X 10.5) and started from that. I got the same errors with that disk utility.
    Can someone tell me, if this are "right" errors or do I have to try more to repair this errors? My computer is running fine.
    I am a bit irritated now.

    Way back in Jaguar Disk Utility would pop up dozens of "advisory" messages of no interest nor meaning to anyone except possibly some programmers. This needlessly alarmed regular users. The same thing is happening again in Leopard. The SUID messages are not meaningful nor are they errors, in effect they are announcements that some list being consulted by the utility says one thing, the actual files say something else, Disk Utility is going to assume there is a reason for actual setting and not going to change it, but you (it's kind of assuming you are the programmer) should know this. If the "Die Zugriffssteuerungsliste" is German for ACL (Access Control List) it is the same deal: an ACL was found, but no one told Disk Utility there was suppose to be one.
    If the messages bother you download the whole 110MB 10.5.1 update and run it. It quiets down the output for all the SUID statements save one. Might even shut down the ACL advisories--don't know because I haven't bothered to download 110MBs of updater, I just ran the patch update.

    Boot your computer into Safe Mode usually by tapping the F8 key at boot.  Select Safe Mode with Command Prompt.
    From there type  rstrui.exe and select a Restore Point prior to the time the problem started.
    If unable, you will have to perform a Factory Restore.
    Please mark my post as SOLVED if it has resolved your problem. It helps others with similar situations.

  • Disk repair not repairing

    Having an issue with disk repair not repairing permissions. I've run it four times and each time the same set of incorrect permissions show up. Is there a plist I can trash to try to get this to work?

    The logic for the last ten years of owning Macs said that running permissions repair twice would insure everything was cleaned up and corrected. Maybe that only applies to PPC Macs. In any case I downloaded Onyx and spruced things up with it, thx for that suggest. Oh, and most of the repeat permissions probs ARE Java-related. We'll call this answered, but none of my other Macs ever took more than about three minutes to run a permissions repair. This thing takes eight.

    Erase and Install
    1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU after formatting completes and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
    5. After restart into Snow Leopard download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
