Qosmio X300-13W - Is SLI enabled on 9800M GTS?

Hi,
I am just wondering does anybody has a problem using SLI in X300-13W? On NVIDIA setting, it says "enable" but when i used PC Wizard 2008 for system information it says "disable".
I cant really update the latest NVIDIA driver because it doesnt recognise it. Possibly not supported.
I also found out that, my chipset is from NVIDIA. I am just wondering may be the chipset driver is not installed probably or something... i really dont know.
Thanks

Hi all, i have installed the latest Beta drivers from Nvidia, but you have to modify them a little, as they are not recognized, because Toshiba has the drivers listed under them. Nvidia does not step on the toes of dealers that use their drivers. The hybryd set up, which is what we have in our systems, uses Phy*** and also uses the on board 9400M gpu for when on battery , to save power. SLI is enabled by playing in your power settings reachable by the screen saver set up. Set it up when plugged in on battery to everything max. Also, because this is a hybrid set up, Pcwizard, and most other programs do not recognise it, and list it falsely as something else, trust the Nvidia. It is running SLI.
The beta mobile drivers as stated by "OnkelM" can be used, however you have to change a file in them so it recognizes your system. I have been using these drivers now for a month with no problems at all.
Go to laptopvideo2go.com and do a seacrh for the driver number you want to use, then get the modified inf file you need for it, extract the drivers to your desktop, then add in the modifeid file, overwrite and voila, your good to go.
The driver for hybrids is 179.48, after you download it, click on the link there that says modded inf, download that, and then replace it in your driver folder you just downloaded.
Hope this helped, good luck,
Wickedt

  • Qosmio x300-13W - hybrid SLI and graphics driver support

Why oh why cant Toshiba give us a new graphics driver for the x300-13w?
I noticed alot of other drivers have been updated in January 2009 but who knows how old the graphics driver is that comes preinstalled on the restore partition?
Its not good enough to spend nearly 2000 on what is meant to be a gaming laptop and not have the most crucial of driver support.
In order to play the latest games (which this laptop certainly can) we all require a regular graphics driver update-one example is stalker clear sky which is unplayable in dx10 and sli with the driver that comes with the installation.
The worst thing of all is that there doesn't seem to be a way to disable SLI and still use one of the 9800gts cards-the driver always reverts to using just the 9400g which is unsuitable for gaming-doesn't Toshiba/nvidia realise some games work better if you can disable SLI.
The x300-13w is a great laptop but without the display driver support I really might have wasted my cash-anybody considering buying this model I suggest you get the x300 11w instead-its cheaper has a single more powerful graphics card and you can probably update your drivers because it isn't hampered by SLI.....

    Hi
in notebook design and production, I am sure Toshiba takes the latest available Nvidia driver and configures it for use with the notebook for best performance and optimal "cool" operation. After the notebook is on the market, I think Toshiba does its best to provide update drivers but given the number of notebook models that Toshiba has produced over say, the last three years and the number of Graphic driver updates NVidia has created, it would be an impossible task for any notebook producer to follow; let alone the fact that every one of these driver changes would need to be tested (on most games) before the drivers are released. I assume Toshiba provides the link to the NVidia web site to satisfy users who must have the newest and highest performance driver (there are people who can not do without) and are willing to risk notebook damage. More power to these people, but there is a price to pay!
On the other side, NVidia does not and can not create a new driver for every variety of notebook on the market i.e. sub-notebook, notebook, desktop replacement, gaming notebook and for every notebook producer.
Again this is an impossible task. Just like Microsoft can not release new graphic drivers for every operating system they have created (Windows 7 is coming). Should I mention Linux...
So for users who need the newest, highest performance drivers like me, let's just do it! ...but if I am flying with jet fuel instead of high octane fuel for my gaming PC, there is a good chance that I might go down in flames...
I will have had fun but I don't think I can blame Toshiba or NVidia or Microsoft for my obsession...

  • Qosmio x300-15u: device manager shows 1x 9800M GTS and 1x 9400M

    Hi.
I have a Qosmio x300-15u and i have noticed in device manager it only shows 1x 9800m gts and 1x 9400m!!!
Is it right that i should have 2x 9800gts cards showing?
The spec for this machine should have 2x 9800 cards sli (whatever that means) So a total of 1GB video ram.
I'm sure im not getting the full performance of my laptop.
When i go into nvidia control panel it does not say anything about sli.
Btw; I am not running vista anymore.....
    i now run windows 7 ultimate 64.
    Please help me .
    Thanks

Are you using the Display Drivers supplied by Toshiba on the Toshiba Website? Or are you using the nVidia supplied ones?

  • Qosmio X300-13W - My experience with warranties and support

Just thought Id post about my experience so that anyone else in the same situation can find some peace of mind.
Bought a Qosmio x300 13w, nice machine. In the box was a flyer about a free upgrade to the standard warranty (pick up and return service). It directed me to go to a website to register but that site had no reference to this free upgrade. Also the uplift I bought came in the form of a booklet. Within it it said it only applied to business users... I am not a business user.
So I called Toshiba up... luckily the lady I spoke to was very helpful.
    Her explanations were as follows:
    - Standard warranty now in the UK includes the free upgrade to pickup and return
    - The uplift in the UK applies to all customers not just business users. The documentation was old
Unfortunately she was unable to provide any of this in writing. I do however have recordings of the telephone conversation.
Called back next day and they registered over the phone. Got an e-mail confirming standard warranty registration but nothing to confirm the uplift. Called customer services again but this time not as much help... they were unable to confirm the registration was successful and instead refered me to technical support. I called technical support 4:50 and got a message saying lines were closed and to call back during normal business hours. The message however didn't say what the normal business hours were; I thought it was 9 to 5.
Anyway, today I went to the website and tried to register the uplift. The site on the booklet was an old site no longer in use. So Googled up the correct site. Registered it but still no confirmation although they took down my e-mail address.
Personally, I am not so happy with the experience so far... after paying 2k for a laptop i expect a much more professional service. Sending me documentation with incorrect details and not being able to offer anything in writing seems unprofessional. Thankfully I have kept call recordings as confirmation and would advise anyone else who can keep call recordings to do so to be on the safe side.

    Hi
Im not from UK but I was able to register the standard warranty and later I have upgraded it successfully Everything went smoothly.
As mentioned on the flyer that was included on the box, this free warranty upgrade has to be registered under standard warranty on the following website
    http://register-warranty.computers.toshiba.co.uk
The uplift you purchased can be registered on the same link by selecting Warranties & Insurance Registration under http://computers.toshiba.co.uk and then Warranty Registration.
If you want to check if your uplift was registered, you can always have a look at the following website by entering you serial number www.toshiba-tro.de/unitdetails

  • Qosmio x300-13w - CPU details in sys info seems incorrect

    I bought a Qosmio x300-13w recently.
The processor is meant to be a QX9300 (which i understand will show up in sys info as 4 processors, each one being QX9300 although there is infact only one processor but four cores.
I looked in sys info and i see 2 Q9300s (not the same as QX9300) and 2 X9100s.
Can anyone explain why this is the case please?

    Hello
I agree with Jimi. The Qosmio X300-13W is equipped with the Intel Core 2 Extreme processor (QX9300).
So Im sure that this is only a software issue and the device manager shows a wrong CPU. Remove all CPUs from device manager and reboot your notebook. Then it should display the correct CPU.

  • Qosmio X300-13W GPU Driver PROBLEMS

    Hi all,
I'v just brought my new "Qosmio X300-13W" and the Tempro Alerts say that I need to update my GPU drivers.
I go to the link provided by Toshiba that directs me to Nvidea driver downloads. The driver is "179.28_notebook_winvista_32bit_beta" yet when I try and instal the driver I am told-
(The Nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatable with your current hardware. Setup will now exit).
I have even tried Uninstalling the drivers first before updating and still no Success, BIOS has also been updated.
Is it possible the GPU firmware needs to be updated ??
I'm not a NOOB with PCs and build and repair on a professional level but am still stuck.
    PLEASE PLEASE HELP

    > " and the Tempro Alerts say that I need to update my GPU drivers.
    You misunderstood something.
The Tempro doesnt say you have to update the driver but it has notified you that a new version has been uploaded to the driver page!
But this does not mean that you have to update it!!!
Furthermore I visited the Toshiba European driver page and have chosen this driver posted in the Qosmio X300 PQX31E and found this info:
+You are leaving the Toshiba Website to get the generic beta driver from nVidia.+
+This driver has not been officially approved by Toshiba and is out of Toshiba warranty.+
    If you want to install such driver then you can do this only at your own risk and you could install it in device manger;
There you have to choose advanced installation and finally have to point to the place where the driver has been stored on the HDD

  • Qosmio X300-13W or X300-14U? What's the difference?

The X300-13W and X300-14U seem to be exactly the same here: [http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/series/Qosmio-X300-series/1056665/]
But the second is 250 pounds more expensive!!! What makes the difference? ?:|
I've put my order for the x300-13w on hold and I am waiting for your answers to proceed!
    Anyone?

A little late, but I was looking for this kind of info few weeks back. Toshiba sometimes sells both directly and then does the 13U by reseller only.
I contacted Toshiba and they advised there was infect no difference other than one offers 64-bit Vista. In my opinion, and theirs, buying vista 64bit yourself would be cheaper and as Toshiba offers necessary drivers for download it wouldn't be too much of an inconvenience.
I went for the 13W and am happy with the choice. It runs great!

  • Qosmio X300-13W - 32bit or 64bit OS?

I ordered my Qosmio today (X300-13W) I think it will have the 32 bit vista home premium. I didn't want the 64 bit because I was afraid that it won't recognizes my old games.
After seeing blue keys thread I wonder if there will be a problem with the OS and RAM.
Does your X300 / X305 with (minimum) 4GB RAM and 32 bit Vista/XP recognizes all of the RAM?
Is there any significant difference between the two versions?

Your X300 already got a 32bit OS and already 4GB of ram installed. Your system would also show you that there are 4gb ram but a 32bit OS is not able to adress more than 3gb ram. So the system only uses 3Gb and also spend some of that to the graphics board or so on.
I think that you will also loose a little bit of performance (I compare Vista Home Premium 32bit with Win7 64bit, and the processor rating on the windows index ist 5.3 to 6.0).
You might be right that some older games or even "cracks" might not work on a 64bit OS. Thats life, but new games are runnig without any problem, some might have even a better performance.
Enjoy your new X300 with its 32bit OS an later on buy yourself a new hdd or even two and a 64bit OS and try it.

  • Will the Qosmio X300-13W be overheated?

I'm thinking of buying the *X300-13w* but a guy told me not to buy because of overheating problems.
I know a quad core CPU and dual GPU produces high temperatures but I am not sure if that will damage the machine. I'm going to import it so I will have only one year warranty :(. (i) I live in a country with temperatures of 35+C in the summer. (i)
{color:#ff0000}_Do You owners of the X300 (especially of the X300-13w) face overheating problems???_{color} ?:| What do you suggest me to do?
    Thanks in advance!

It IS possible it may overheat , My X300-11s with only one 9700m GTS and a core duo p8600 2,4ghz overheated when i first bought it, the GPU would run at temperatures in excess of 100C and sometimes BSOD due to it and the ambient (room) temperature would be say 19-20C
I had to open the machine and clean the core and apply AS5 to the GPU to fix it, Toshiba had put too much on and it was acting as an insulator!! Now the Temps are reasonable at 80C at full load.
There have been a lot of threads on another site i use about this laptop overheating and particularly the models with the dual 9800m GTSs .

  • Qosmio X300 - No video ouptut after Nvidia 9800M GTX installation

    Hi again all,
Now I have all the parts for my X300 to repair it back to normal. Heatsinked the new chip, installed everything correctly... And no output.
    No monitor and no external.
    Now I am really stuck.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Ideas? About what? What have you done wrong with your notebook? I mean how we can offer some virtual diagnostic?
Please dont understand me wrong but are you authorized and certified technician?
If you do all this as hobby I dont think we can help you with this. Either you will be lucky and this works or .... simply bad luck. Something is obviously not done correctly.
Have you obtained brand new parts or already used parts?

  • Enabling CUDA GP-GPU on a Qosmio X300/01N

I purchased the awesome computing power of a Qosmio X300/01N with high anticipation of the day that I could get CUDA running on a Laptop (desk-top replacement).
    A quick check of the NVIDIA website revealed that the graphics card of this DTR has CUDA support, since the Qosmio is equipped with;
    Dual NVIDIA® GeForce® 9800M GTS graphics with NVIDIA® SLI® Technology
The only limiting factor is the Video card driver supplied by Toshiba.
Q1: Is it possible to get CUDA running on my machine?
    Q2: How?
Please detail the (a) Toshiba approved method, or (b) Other unsupported method.
Q3: When will Toshiba release official drivers that support the CUDA framework?
If they have, where are they for Australia?

I'm interested in CUDA so I can go about "Developing" programs that use CUDA, not simply to be a casual user as you imply.
I noted that the current nVidia Drivers are not notebook drivers, so my questions were very deliberately worded..
+Q1: Is it possible to get CUDA running on my machine?+
    +Q2: How?+
+Please detail the (a) Toshiba approved method, or (b) Other unsupported method.+
+Q3: When will Toshiba release official drivers that support the CUDA framework?+

From your answer it seems like you are suggesting an unsupported method which would use generic nVidia drivers not designed specifically for the Toshiba. An associate of mine has tried installing these driver's with no real luck, and had to sacrifice the power saver features that come with the bundled drivers. Even so, could you elaborate on which drivers, or offer a link to those drivers you believe appropriate?
Personally I'd prefer that Toshiba releases its own approved driver update!! Is it out there?

  • Qosmio X300 14N - Nvidia Driver message: Driver are for 32bit Vista

    Hi,
I bought a Qosmio X300 14N with SLI 9800GTS. When i'm trying to install the last driver Nvidia Notebook 179.48 NOTEBOOK(recommanded on toshiba site)
I have the message that the driver i'm installing are for 32 bit version not for 64bit but i'm using a 32 Bit Vista version.
With the driver that i'm currently using i have some problems on framerate wich is completaly strange; Sometimes it will be very fast and sometime very slow.
It's very disapointed to have this type of problem with this type a computer. My last laptop computer was a Dell and i'm beginning to regret it.
Is there anybody that could have an idea on this problem ?

    Hello Gaudin,
I bought a Qosmio X300-157 and I've your same problems. When I try to update my Nvidia drivers, Vista doesn't allow me to finish the update because it say that my Windows version is not a 32 bit (while it is). I tryed several certified Nvidia drivers version from several sources but the result is always the same. I've also installed the new release of windows 7 (on a different partition) and when I update the driver I have the same problem again as in Vista. So I'm start to think that it's a Qosmio problem though it's unbelievable that a notebook like this payed more than 2000 euros can have this kind of problem.
I read that you solved the problem. Can you give me any suggestion? After the uninstalling of the driver how you can select the graphic card? Please help me because I'm going crazy!!!
    Thx in advance.
    Charly

  • Qosmio X300 15G - SLi option is not available

    Hi,
    I have a problem with the Qosmio X300 15G.
    I reinstalled Windows Vista 64bit, 64bit for Windows 7.
    Everything works except graphics.
The problem is that the original drivers TOSHIBA 186.42. SLI does not work. The system administrator is the only and 1x9400m G and 1x9800m GTS. NVIDIA in the center can not find the tab with SLI.
I tried newest mobile graphics drivers directly from nVidia http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-258.96-whql-driver-uk.html
but not install, says it can not find the device that I want to install.
Can you please tell me some advice?

So, I was so curious about this and I have installed Win7 Ultimate 64bit on second HDD to compare NVIDIA options to original preinstalled options in Vista 32bit.
    Result is as follow:
    -clean Win7 Ultimate installation
-I have installed NVIDIA Chipset utility version 15.38
-I have installed NVIDIA display driver version 186.42 and after restart I saw info SLI enabled shown near the small NVIDIA icon placed in notification area
-check in device manager- three graphic adapters are listed there:
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400M G
    NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS
    NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS
-right mouse click on desktop > NVIDIA control panel > NVIDIA Control Panel Section window is open > I choosed advanced settings
-NVIDIA control panel is open > 3D settings > Set SLI and PhysX configuration option is available
-there I found three options on the right side:
    1/Set PhysX GPU acceleration
    2/Select an SLI configuration
    3/Select the SLI focus display
Under Manage 3D settings > Global settings there is also SLI performance mode available.
So for me it works perfectly and there are the same options as on original Vista preinstalled OS. Im really wondering you dont have it.

  • Re: Newest display driver for hibryd sli on Qosmio X300-14N

Hi all, sorry for my english but i'm french. :)
    Ok, i have a Qosmio x300-14n, with an hibryd sli (9400M G + 2 x 9800M GTS).
The lastest driver on toshiba website are the 186...
    Nvidia too...
But for recent game, sli is not reconized and it's very not cool for gaming laptop.
When the other drivers are going to go out?
Thks and sorry again for my english.

    Hi,
You could install the generic Notebook Driver from the nVidia website, but its not recommenced since the generic driver could cause problems such as overheating.
I don't know if Toshiba will release newer drivers for the X300, I guess you could try the nVidia driver for a later model such as the X500.
