Qosmio X300-14P - Does it support RAID on eSATA port?

The SATA Controller of my Notebook is the Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller. My question is: does this controller support port multiplying? I want to connect a RAID-Drive on my eSATA but the computer just recognizes one of the two drives. If it is supporting port multiplying: how do I activate or use it?
Thanks

hi phoelling,
you can get further informations on [http://www.intel.com], search for "inte matrix storage device driver".
as far as i know this chipset supports raid "0+1"
how about the readme which comes with this driver?
try this:
- opening storage manager
- klick (right) on the device
- choose create volume
if your external drive has a ready built raid
the OS wont see the seperate drives because the raidfunktion of your external drive shows only one drive to the OS...
please read the manual of your external raid device to check what options you have...

  • Qosmio X300-14P - System crashes

    Hello,
my Qosmio X300-14P has an problem...My system crashes at least 3-4 times a day and the reason is not the operating system or any other program...I don't know what it could be...Sometimes Windows (I use Windows 7) says the graphic card driver does not work correct. But I've tried all the drivers and none worked right...I hope you can help me.

    Hi,
I think I got the same problem as you got. I used Vista 32-bit with 4MB Ram - but as we all know, we only can
use more RAM by using a 64-bit operating system. So I installed a Vista 64-Bit version and my problems started.
First, I had to install the new display driver - I used the new one from nvidia, but i did not work. Second, I used the
driver from toshiba and it did no work, too.
The problem was that my computer started as normal but after 2-3 minutes, the lights of the screen was switched
out, but you still can see all opened windows on the screen...... - and some minutes later, everything is perfect.....
for the next 20 minutes.......- i thought it is a hardware problem, but it seems to be a driver problem - i am still
waiting for an answer of Toshiba services....
Hopefully they got an answer. If I got one, I will let you know it - perhaps it works....
    Good luck :-)

  • New Qosmio X300-14p with bios 2.40

    hi,
i purchased a new toshiba qosmio x300 in a store that had a single one still in stock.
i have had a x300-.14p (pqx32e-04h02wgr) before and thus know it a bit.
i remeber : the latest bios for the x300 even today is version 2.10
i was surprised that the new x300 i purchased has the bios version 2.40 !!!
    ================================================== =========
how can a new x300 have a later bios than that offered in the official toshiba support site for the qosmio x300 ?
my question : is this ok ?
or is this some weird error and do i have to DOWNGRADE bios from v2.40 to V2.10 ?
but it looks normal and as of yet i have not detected anything unusual.
maybe a toshiba official can help ?
    but besides, any clue welcome.

the hdsetup tool of course reports the same version than the bios : 2.4
the notebook was one that has been standing as a demo in the shop for awhile, so it might have
been used a couple of times by the personal for demonstrations to customers.
so i repeat my question : how can there be a bios 2.4 when the latest offered by toshiba is 2.1 ?
IS BIOS 2.4 OK for QOSMIO X300-14P ?
    ===============================
of course i expect that someone from toshiba at least from time to time reads and answers here.
this is the OFFICIAL toshiba forum on the official toshiba site, of course i expect them to read and answer here !
what kind of company is this, anyway ?
especially in cases like this, when users can obiously not help.
and it is in their OFFICIAL website,
i expect that they answer those questions.
it is their job. thats what support forums are for.
my question is still unanswered !
i am still waiting for an answer (for quite some time, now).

  • Qosmio X300-14P - Can I use another CPU?

    Hello,
sorry for my bad English but my schooldays are along time ago.
I thought about to buy a Toshiba Qosmio X300-14P.
The price is ok for me but the CPU is not the strongest but the other X300 are to expensive for me.
Is it possible to change the p8600 into a p9500 by myself? I know about the warranty but is ist possible to buy another CPU and do this into the X300-14P?
If it is possible what CPU is possible?
    Thank you

Of course you can upgrade the cpu, only i would do it via Toshiba service, since if you do it on your own your garanty is void.
Of course this way is more expensive.
Since you have the X300-14p, you can see in other models (series x32, not 31) what CPU is possible.
The p8600 is the component that slows down the system, as you can even see in the Vista system check, where everything is 5.8 and 5.9 (graphics, 3d graphics, memory, hdd), only cpu is 5.3 and thus the bottleneck that slows down everything here.
For the 9800gtx graphics an extreme or quad core cpu was better.
I wouldn't upgrade it now, though, since it is too expensive in the moment, wait at least 1 year.
I would NOT overclock anything in any way, because notebooks have a heat problem anyway, and overclocking is not meant for notebooks.

  • Qosmio X300-14P - Not listed anymore

    Hi,
I couldnt believe it: The Toshiba Qosmio X300-14p is suddenly not listed anymore among the models at the driver download page. Why?
Would Toshiba website creators please be so kind and include it again?!
    ================================================== =======
Really, such behaviour shows that there is no more difference between cheap noname notebook makers and the so called "good name" makers.
    martin

    Hi buddy,
I dont know what problem you have and on what Toshiba website you search exactly, but Qosmio X300 is still listed on driver download page:

    Notebook > Qosmio > Qosmio X Series > Qosmio X300

  • Qosmio X300-14P: Will Sound 5.1 Headset - Razer Baracuda work?

    Hello fellas,
I just bought that Qosmio X300-14P and would like to buy a new headset right now.
Actually it's gonna be that Razer Baracuda Hp-1 which is a 5.1 headset.
    Will it work?
I haven't found any serious information about that sound-platine which is implemented.
I would be grateful for a very fast answer.
    Yours Faithfully
    KjubE

Hi, no it cant be done, the reason being 5.1 surround headphones have 3 connectors ussually, 1 for subwoofer, 1 for rear and 1 for front. We only have 1 connector on the laptop.
However, there are a few companies that make special units for this, one of them being creative labs.
    Hope this helped

  • Qosmio X300-14P : Graphic card issues and vertical stripes on display

    Hi,
2 days ago, after a long notebook session of many many hours, suddenly after playing for 2 hours the game
Patrician 4 addon, it crashed in a strange and never seen before way:
The display would show strange and weird colours in all forms rushing over ther display. You could not recognize anything anymore, and after a few seconds of this the screen and the x300-14P completely froze/crashed (hung - no reaction on anything except power plug pull and/or 5 seconds push of ther power button).
I was afraid since this to me looked like a serious issue of either graphic card (nvidia chip) or display.
I hoped it was because of heat (though i have a powerful cooling pad below the notebook and heat shouldnt be a problem).
Next day (yesterday) I launched the game immediately after startup, and after a few seconds the same crash appeared again with the same strange video glitches (never saw something strange like that before).
I immediately did the 5 second power button press reset,. and then, when the first boot screen appears (the bios display hint and the loading/booting screen), there were like 2-7 vertical white stripes (on the black background) on the right side of the screen.
They wouldn't move nor go away.
I immediately turned the notebook off and it is off since then.
To me this looks really serious, as if either nvidia chip (Geforce 9800-GTX) is broken or the display.
Does anyone know something about this ?
Has anyone heard of such a problem ?
    Who knows more ?
I know, i can now connect an external monitor.
If there is no problem, this should mean that it is a x300 display problem
If the problem also appears on the external monitor, it is the nvidia gpu chip. That would be at least my guess.
Has anyone any idea about this, what it might be and what i could do ?
(i am afraid sending the x300 in to toshiba for fixing is not worth it, as it is pretty old
(it was purchased new in june 2009). fixing it is probably too expensive.
Any ideas about hthis problem ?
    I never had it before.
    Who can help ?
    Thanks
    P.S:
I was thinlking about buying the new qosmio X870, but i just saw it has no express card slot, which i need for various expansion modules (like tv and video equipment, more e-sata cards etc.pp.).
Without an express card slot i wouldn't buy any notebook, i need this slot urgently (it is like a pci-express card connection slot in a desktop pc).
To me the express card slot is vital.
Too bad many notebooks dont have it anymore.
So io might need my x300 for some time,
but what shoudl i do abpout this new strange video chip/display problem ?

    Hi,
    yes.
even windows has now deactivated the whole graphic card, saying it was deactivated because
it reported an error - CODE 43 .
the stripes are still there at boot screen and bios screen, they go away though as soon as windows loads,
but this has deacvtivated the nvidia chip (the nvidia device driver software wouldnt start at all, it says : no nvidia gpu connected (since it was deactivated by windows 7)).
looks like i have to send the x300 to toshiba for repair (maybe even mainboard replacement).
who knows how i can find the local toshiba repair company ?
    whom can i call in
    FRANKFURT AM MAIN
    GERMANY
to get my toshiba notebook repaired ?
if someone has the adress and even better telephone nummber, i would be happy.
a second question, by the way :
did someone of you ever replace the mainboard in a toshiba X300 / X305 ?
    how expensive was that ?
    thanks

  • Qosmio G40-10E - Does it support a 12mm Hard Drive?

I've been searching on the internet for this, and I've found some websites say that it DOES support a 12mm hard drive in its bay, and others have not said this at all.
I just want confirmation that a 12mm hard drive, of 2.5", will fit into the laptop, as I wish to upgrade to the new WD 1TB 2.5" HDD, but it's not the standard 9.5mm size, but 12mm instead.
    Thanks

    Hi
I think Dr.Lamp is right. If your notebook is compatible to this HDD its possible to use HDDs with 12.5mm height. So you can buy this 1TB Western Digital HDD that you want.
After this you can give us a feedback how it works. 1TB is pretty much disk space and Im interested in it how it works. :)

  • Does MBP support RAID 5 (disk utility)

I bought a 2T Cavalry disk array machine with the understanding that I could have it configured to run RAID 5 on my MBP. Now that I have the machine, I have found that it will not work. I have a express card 35 but can't get disk utility to configure my 2T Cavalry machine to RAID 5.
    HELP HELP HELP!
    Huckster

You didn't say you want this for backup.
And backup only needs some simple, but duplicate backups sets that you rotate and use on alternate backup sessions.
People with a lot of high value data that changes and being edited sometimes go for RAID6.
If you have a drive that you can't afford to go down or lose (audio recording and editing) you can just have a mirror of 3 drives (I am against the idea of using a mirror and stop at two drives).
Any backup should be external and can be simple Firewire or SATA.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7479466&#7479466
I don't think you qualify as needing RAID5 so far. Also, get some experience and testing under your belt of what it is and can be done with RAID0 stripe, or RAID1 mirror first.

  • RAID through eSATA Port Multiplexer problem

Hi.  I have 3*1GB HDs that are connected to a AD5SARPM-E SATA Port Multiplexer, whitch was connected to a Macbook through a SATA II PCMCIA card. I Think (but an not sure) it was setup as RAID 1 (Software RAID).  I am trying to access the data.
Is my best bet to plug the drives into the MAC via SATA?  If so will it automaticaly sence the RAID setup.  Is there a way of doing this and keeping the drives RO so I dont accidentely  trash the (verry important) data.
Cant think where else to ask.
    Ben

Thanks for the reply.  I've tried combinations of all three.  Usually I power up my computer, then plug in the drive and turn it on, but I've also tried plugging the drive in while it's running, and starting up the computer with the drive plugged in and running
There aren't any associated messages in the event log.
    I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit).

  • Qosmio X300 - new nvidia graphic drivers are uninstallable: no nvidia chip

    hello,
i have the qosmio X300-14P with windows 7..
i play actual games (f.e. skyrim) which need the LATEST video driver!
the x300 is said to have a nvidia geforce 9800M GTX video chip.
however, when i download the latest driver (295.73 today), at installation it says :
no nvidia hardware detected - unable to install !
    =====================================
this is so with all nvidia drivers in the last 2 years (with windows 7 and windows vista alike) !
    what is the problem ?
did toshiba not include an nvidia chip, but a cheap chinese noname chip, or what is the problem here ?
whatever notebook i had before the toshiba, it would accept actual nvidia drivers.
only the toshiba qosmio x300 doesnt.
    why ?
it is vital that i install the latest drivers, how can i get by this problem ?
the driver that toshiba offers for the qosmio x300 is almoust 3 years old (2009, now it is 2012!) -
    this is ridiculous!
an actual video/graphics driver is urgently needed, it is vital that the nvidia drivers work.
    i ask toshiba :
HOW can i get the latest nvidia driver to work in the qosmio x300-14P ?
which is said to have a geforce 9800M GTX nvidia chip (though nvidia driver says : it does'nt).
how can i get the latest `nvidia drive (295.73)r to work ?
    thank you
    q.

thanks for the answers to all, especially blob.
yes i am a gamer and therefore i need always the very latest graphics driver.
(yes, skyrim runs, but not with highest settings of course).
but i am about to buy a new notebook soon anyway.
this branding is a problem i came across earlier with the toshiba ram already.
that's the reason why this time i dont buy a new toshiba notebook anymore,
    i will switch to lenovo.
i thought about the qosmio x770, as it has some nice features.
but they removed firewire etc., well ok, i could maybe live with that,
BUT i CANNOT live without an express card slot !
the xpress card slot is vital, as only there you can expand your notebook.
missing firewire could be corrected by a firewire express card, i always
use e-sata hdd connections, so i have an express card with 2 esata ports
(to have faster hdd writings). one internal esata port (even a combo port esata/usb2)
is just not eno8gh for me, i have usually connected 2 or 3 external drives.
as well i quite often use my express tv + video card.
that a notebook at this price has no express card slot is unbelievable !
this is a knockout feature for me.
i can swallow a lot, but not a missing express card slot, as this is the only feature
that makes it possible to expand a laptop (with a e-sata card, with a tv card, f.e.).
and so i could switch my tvc card and my esata card and whatever else i need
    or might need later.
i might have purchased the x770 had it an express card slot, but without
it is so ridiculous that i would never buy it, no matter how good the other features are.
an express card slot is VITAL for every notebook.
that someone could spare it it like selling a rain jacket without a zip.
too bad, because else the x770 is not so bad.
i wonder what made them cut the express card out in a notebook
    (that is not expand-friendly anyway).
i saw that some others companies did it as well.
this will not be a fortune, as i foresee that many people will, if not at once, then later
hate the missing express card slot.
it was about time that they put good graphic cards in notebooks (while once they are branded,
they are a hassle, good or not), and now they start cutting the vital express card slot.
unexpandable is the first that comes to my mind when i think about the x770.
the product designers at toshiba seem not to be very good.
branding, missing express card slots - what else may we have to expect in the future ?
i was about time to switch.

  • Satellite A200-1K6 does it have RAID possibilities?

I bought a a200-1k6 a week ago, and the shop told me it contained 3 hd with the possibility to use them in a raid config. Apparently the laptop doens't contain three hd but only 1 with three disks in it.
Now i'm wondering if it is possible to have a raid setup on this laptop inspite of missing the extra hd's at the moment...
I can't find anything on it so i'm afraid it isn't even possible..

    Hi
Some notebooks from the Satellite A200 series support two HDDs and some notebooks were delivered only with one HDD.
But all A200 notebooks dont support the RAID functionality!!!
The Satellite A200-1K6 was delivered only with one HDD. This SATA HDD supports 3 disks and 6 heads.
This means that 2 heads writes and reads data from one disk inside the HDD. But this has nothing to do with the RAID!!!
Once again; The A200 does not support RAID!
    Hope I could clear this.
    Best regards

  • What chipset does Qosmio X300-14U support?

    Hello
Does anybody khow exacltly what chipset is in the Qosmio x300 14u please?

    Hi
As far as I know the Qosmio X300-14U belongs to the PQX31E series and it has been equipped with the CORE2 EXTREME QX9300 (2.53GHZ) 1066MHZ CPU and with the MCP79-SLI chipset!
The MCP79-SLI is a new mobile nVidia chipset.
I found some important specs of NVIDIA MCP79 Chipset:
    1066MHz FSB Speed
    800MHz DDR2 Memory Support
    1333MHz DDR3 Memory Support
    3 Gbps SATA/eSATA
NVIDIA DriveCache (similar to Intel Turbo Memory)
    Gigabit Ethernet controller
    HD Audio
    TPM 1.2 Security
    20 PCIe 2.0 lanes

I have a Qosmio x300-11w with 2 320GB HDD and I would like to use them in RAID 0 for a bit more speed, I cant see any RAID options in BIOS. Is there another way to enable it?

Anyone know if it is possible with this system?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello Teit
If notebook has such option it is described in users manuals but according to this document for your X300 (PQX32E) RAID is not available. Not a word about it is there.
