Qosmio X300 after shutdown continues to consume battery

Despite the fact that the Qosmio X300 was successfully shuted-down, the battery is exhausted after 7 days (whilst no operation at all).

When I first got my X300 and turned it on, the first thing I was asked was to setup the BIOS. I thought that this was reasonable as the main battery was flat and any backup battery may also have gone flat. I proceeded with the setup and installed windows. On a weekly basis the main battery drains by approx 60-70%.
I've updated the BIOS (v2.10) no effect, I've turned off everything I can find, no effect and I use the Windows "Shut-down" not sleep or hibernate so the machine should be "dead" during the week.
This last weekend I removed the main battery for a few minutes. Put it back in and started the computer. I was back at the start again, being asked to enter the BIOS setup. It would appear that the X300 does not have an internal backup battery for system settings. The main battery was out for no more than 1 minute and this was the result.
So if the main battery is maintaining the computer's settings it seems likely that this is the constant battery drain that results in 30% remaining after 5 days off.
If you do end up with a flat battery a couple of tips.
- Set the date and time in the BIOS and save it.
- DO NOT setup windows again, just cancel that step
If you don't set the date and time your virus software may go nuts about being out of date and windows gets involved and you're in a neverending loop of warnings (still trying to fix this).
After what others have done to solve this perhaps this is the simple solution. I'd like other thoughts on the matter.
Best regards
Eric

    > I went back to the company and they tald me that the charger is fine and that the battery just died couse it was her time to die !!!
Well, can you use the notebook without the battery but only in connection with the AC adaptor?
If yes, then the AC adaptor is OK and fully compatible.
The Ac Adaptor should support the 19V and 9,5A
The Ampere (A) value could be a little bit different. This is no matter but the Volt (V) value has to be the same 19V
In your case the battery could be faulty or there is some problem with power supply electronic on the motherboard.
But I think the battery should be checked firstly

  • X201: battery still drain after shutdown and unplugged

This is really a confusing problem for my new X201. Everything goes very well, except for this battery drain problem.
Generally I'll completely shut down my laptop and unplug it after one day's using, but when I open it the next day, battery will drop 7 or 8 percent to 92% or 93%. If I left it unused for more days, battery dropped even more.
I don't think it's a battery problem, because if I remove battery after shutting down my laptop, and reattach it when I want to use my laptop, it won't loose any power. So, it means even when I shut down, my X201 is still comsuming power.
Another proof is when I shutdown and unplug my X201, all lights go out. But shortly afterwards, the power light (not battery light)begins to blink slowly. I presume some devices may still consume battery power.
According to some instructions, I used "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" to turn off all wakeup devices, but it turned out to be of no use. I googled and found it's not an individual case. So, could anybody give me a solution? Don't tell me to remove battery every time.
    Thanks.

Hi, did you guys ever found a solution? I just bought an used Thinkpad X201s from ebay and it has this problem too. I've tried everything: disabled everything in BIOS and disabled fingerprint reader, wake from lan etc. in the Windows 7 Pro. I also tried the newest BIOS with no luck. The power led will blink even if just visiting BIOS and then shutting down the machine from the power button (without ever visiting Windows after battery reset). I'm pretty certain that I've tried every trick there is as an end user.

  • Qosmio F20 blue screen of death after shutdown

    Hi there,
I get the blue screen of death after shutdown on my Qosmio F20 laptop.
    Error is IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
I assume that it is somehow related to tv tuner card.
I have tried to restore system - no good. After restoration for some time it was OK. But then BSOD appeared again.
Sometimes it also appears when I connect USB HDDs or even when I insert DVD disk.
And for shure everytime I shut laptop down.
    Has anybody got ideas?

    Hi
Reading you last message I really dont know what you expect from this forum ?:|
We all here can provide only some suggestions and opinions.
Without any notebook tests and checks nobody will be able to provide a magic solution
    I hope you understand this.
So back to the notebook issue.
There is a one way to find out if the issue could be related to the software or hardware.
You have to reinstall the notebook with the Toshiba recovery CD. If the same BSOD will appear after the installation from the recovery CD then the chance are that the hardware is faulty!
I think you should check this out.

  • Qosmio X300-13R - After few seconds the image darkens on webcam

We have laptop Toshiba Qosmio-X300-13R with the chamber built in webcamera. But there is a question.
I start the native utility or Skype, the first seconds all is visible, and then the image darkens and looks narrowly in the monitor that like it is visible my silhouette. If I apply different options, it does not occur. It is necessary to press the button to apply, the chamber again for 5-10 seconds shows brightly and is light. And then again on 95 % darkness... Deleted native driver, Windows Vista puts built in, and in Skype that does not vary. And with native drivers, in the utility (Camera Assistant Software for Toshiba) and in Skype.
What is such and how it to win?
P.S. On how many I have understood, the built in chamber of firm Chicony.

    I had the same problem. . . fortunately I have a solution =)
After you've opened your webcam application like yahoo webcam and the screen goes black, what I do is I open the Toshiba camera assistant software utility and click properties
From there click backlit compensation and night mode. The screen would black out again after an hour or so, when that happens repeat the process, if the night mode is already checked, uncheck, and then check again then click ok when the screen comes to.
    Hope this helps.

I'm not sure, but I know it's not recommended to upgrade to iOS 8 on anything older than an iPhone 5. I only lost my music playlists and music that was on my phone, but that music is also on my iTunes, not the playlists though, and I don't want to go through ALL my iTunes library to fix it either... But it seems I don't have a choice right now.
Whatever you do, do NOT upgrade to iCloud Drive, keep iCloud till OS X Yosemite comes out, if your computer is a Mac. I also just noticed that all my documents on my phone are gone from Pages, BUT if I go on the iCloud website they are still there. Hopefully it will all work itself out when I can update my macbook pro to OS X Yosemite.
If you backed up your phone and all your purchases off your iPhone prior to trying to upgrade you should be fine... But I'm not even remotely sure.

  • Qosmio X300 - Can't write disk after firmware update

I have a serious proble. After a firmware-update for my pioneer dvd-drive I can't write anything anymore on disks.
I really need some help there

I just received my new drive and installed it on my Qosmio x300 13E.
It is a LG GBW-T10N drive and it works perfectly. The included software allows me in combination with the newest driver for the nvidia gforce x9800 graphic controller to upscale films to a full HD resolution.
It is absolutely amazing. I just had to try it with a normal dvd and I had a full HD entertainment on my flat screen tv.
The replacement of the broken drive was easy. You simply need to loosen one screw on the bottom of the notebook and then you simply pill it out.
If anyone wants to do it too, I can give accurate advice for it.

  • Qosmio x300-15r: After recovery windows say: worg/incorrect product key?

    Hi guys.
Well this is what happend. When i bought my laptop Qosmio x300-15r I made a recovery cd.
But I lost those cd's and burn another one recovery cd.
Now that i formated my windows with the recovery cd, and I want to log in He give me the
error: wrong product key,. but it's wierd, cause this product key is writting on the back of my notebook
So how can it be worng???
    Does someone have a clue??

    Cheng.

    Hi
    I dont understand.
Toshiba Recovery disk is already activated and there is no option for entering the serial key.
If you use the Toshiba recovery disk you will not be asked to enter any keys!!!
The serial key at the bottom of the unit belongs to the Toshiba installed Windows OS and cannot be used with other Windows versions.

  • Overheating GPU on Qosmio x300?

Hi there, Ive purchased this wonderful laptop last week but have a major concern involving the 9700m GTS,
    When im playing on a game my GPU temperature would reach 95 - 100C / 200 - 215F!
The other components remain cool at around 40-50C.
The fan kicks in at 65C and then the heat will slowly rise to the temperature above, The fan does not appear to be running at full speed like it does for a second when you first turn on the laptop maybe at around 70% instead of 100%
Ive crawled a lot of x300 forums and other users have said their laptop reaches 65C and stays around that temperature for hours,
I dont have any artifacts or corruption/crashes at these temps but i am concern about the laptops longevity.
What are other users max temps with this GPU and is there any program i can use to increase the GPUs fan to run 100%
    Thanks in advance.

So i bought a Qosmio X300 - 130 in February ... Worst Buy EVER . Its been with Toshiba for almost 6 months now with this overheating issue . Its with them for 2 months (atleast there close to there 2 day turnaround time) , gets sent back to me , i send it back after one day , and the loop starts all over again . This loop only started when i actually had to get a technician to my house to show him that i am not lieing and that the laptop actually does go up to those temps and that it does actually shutdown . Seems Toshiba's way of stress testing a graphics card is abit flawed . Running a Benchmark program that comes from Noah's ark doesnt cut it boys
Seems toshiba doesnt know what the problem is , as the Laptop has a new GPU , New Fans , New HDD , New Graphics Drivers , Updated Bios , New OS and from what i hear , they are now replacing the motherboard . All i want to do is get the thing either swapped out , or just credited so i can go and buy a NON toshiba Gaming laptop . I bought the laptop to replace my Work desktop , and kill 2 birds with one stone (Gaming laptop when i want to game , but mostly there for work) . With the utter useless Service i got from toshiba South Africa , i have since gone out and bought a new desktop so i can atleast keep working . I have to also give toshiba Germany props thou . Took them 5 weeks to send a mail telling toshiba SA how to proceed after having had the laptop for 4 months with no success .
I run a quite well know PC store in South Africa who supply hardware to the gaming market . Since this incident, I have since pulled the entire range off my shelves and sent it back to my supplier . I cant with a good conscience sell these laptops to my clients even thou i have had a few request for these . Only thing i am glad for is that this is not a clients laptop thats been with them for 6 months and counting .

  • Noise after shutdown

Hi ... am I imagining it or not but there seems to be the sound of somthing continuing to spin after I've shut down ... I'm sure it wasn't there before ... a noise like a very quiet fan. Anyone any ideas please. Also whilst investigating this I realised just how dusty it is inside the crate especially around the fan intakes ... is it OK to give it a thorough vacume out ? Many thanks ... Roger

    Hi, Roger!
The Mac should be silent after shutdown. There are three fans that I'm aware of inside the case; a power supply fan in the power supply unit, a large lower case fan below the optical drives, and an optical fan on the side door near the battery. I'd open the side door, shut down and listen to see if I could pinpoint the noise. The hard drives also should spin down before shutdown. The only thing left that could continue to spin is the optical drive. You should be able to verify if you're imagining things or not by removing the power cable right after the Mac shuts down and listening to see if the sound disappears.
To clean out the case, I use a can of compressed "air" and a soft toothbrush. I have to admit that I take a vacuum cleaner to it, but am careful not to touch the metal components, being gun shy about the possibility of a static buildup and discharge from the vacuum cleaner. Typically, I'll use the canned air and toothbrush while the vaccum cleaner grabs the airborne dust and lint. I use a grounding wrist strap when working inside the case.

G5 dual 2ghz.  Been unplugged for a while. Powers up but no video or power to usb keyboard.  Boots up fine in safe mode, restart into normal mode ok. After shutdown, back to same issue.  What's happening?

I keep seeing people ask and the advice to replace if it has been unplugged, but really have nothing to confirm that from my experiences.
My experience is that a weak or dead battery can cause much more than date and time issues.
I have seen it time and time again.
Deal with used machines and you will quickly learn....
I'll give no "recipe" or set list of symptoms, but the range of irregularities that can occur make it a quick and easy first line of troubleshooting, especially when the machine has been off the mains for a few months.
Why fight mysterious maladies and troubleshoot with the knowledge that the PRAM battery is beyond it's useful life.
    Maybe they recharge?
Not likely. They are chemically nasty, disposable, one way discharge batteries.
    They aren't Lithium-ion batteries

  • After shutdown I have to log in twice.  The first time it starts to load, then goes black, then gives me login page again.  Do you think I have a virus?  Or is this Yosemite bug?

Just updated to Yosemite on my MBP.  After shutdown now when I login, it starts the process (the bar starts to move), then the screen goes black, then it asks me to login again and this time it is a successful startup.  Is this a Yosemite bug or do I have a virus?  I also have some funny tiling on the screen at youtube and some other websites.  Another bug?

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
