Qosmio x305 and FN key trouble

I recently bought this awesome machine for gaming! Well while cleaning up unused apps i can't disable my touchpad anymore. I can do just about every FN action except the wireless and disable touchpad.
I don't even have the display come down from the top of the screen anymore. I made sure I have cfFncEnabler running in msconfig as well as kenotify.
Any help would be very much appreciated thank you.
-Andrew

I had exactly the same problem. Unfortunately there is no driver for that on Toshiba website.
All you can do to fix it is reinstall windows from recovery disc.
Everything should be fine.
Good luck

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
[[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
[[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
volume controls issues are windows, not firefox.

HAVE A MAC G5 WITH V10.4 TIGER OS, I AM HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE LETTER "N" ONLY WHEN I USE CAPS AND SHIFT KEYS DOSE IT TYPE THE LETTER "N". I HAVE CONNECTED A NEW KEYBOARD BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXIST. WHAT ELSE CAN I DO?

You might look at "Keyboard Shortcuts" in the Keyboard and Mouse preference pane and see if somehow the lower case n has been inadvertently assigned to something.
Probably the best solution would be to click the "Restore Defaults" button.

  • Qosmio X305-Q701 - Black Screen and sound loop while gaming

    Hi,
My Qosmio X305-Q701 has recently started crashing while playing any games. Never had a problem out of it until the past month. All games now from WoW and F.E.A.R. to solitare. It will just randomly go to a black screen and the last sound byte while loop over and over requiring a hard reboot.
Graphics card is Nvidia geforce 9700m gts series.
All drivers and directx is up to date running windows vista. I am not very tech savy so any help or expierence with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

I have the exacrt same issues, and have had them for some time. I tried all the software solutions, and mechanical solutions that I could perform myself ( cleaning the airflow vents, and cooling fan ) Nothing has worked. Sad thing is, no real solutions are ever given to this, so let me lay it down like this. The video card is a P.O.S. and is at fault. Only way to fix it is to replace it. Preferably with one equivelant, but from a different manufacturer. In all honesty, this is the worst computer I've ever owned. Even sadder is its the most expensive one I've ever bought. I've tried for help through the place I bought it ( Best Buy, which I am having my own difficulties dealing with ) and Toshiba support as well. No one has offered an explanation as to why this model isn't recalled, and or replaced because its a lemon. Good luck in getting it fixed. My own solution is to cut my losses, get a new computer ( which will never be a Toshiba again ) and chalk it up as lesson learned.

  • Voice-over and weird key combinations trouble.

    hello,
I have a macbook of the previous gen. with OSX leopard. Last night a voice-over turned on which talks to everything I do even telling me on what internet site I am, everything that I was using was outlined. And the keys had an other order. So for example: F11 was not for turning down volume but became the expose button.
I did not turn these functions on and I don't know how to turn them of either.
So please help because it's really anoying
    Thanks in advance
    David

    Hi,
you did turn them on, you just didn't notice it. Go to System Preferences/Universal Access and turn off VoiceOver. You can deactivate or change the key combo so it won't happen again.

  • Re: Qosmio F50-12J - FN key not working with new Value Added Package

    Hi,
I have Toshiba Qosmio F50-12J and have trouble with Value Added Package v 1.2.28.
I can't get the flash cards to work. When I press FN key nothing happens. BTW, I installed VAP on freshly installed Windows 7 64 bit. With the previuos version of VAP that I tried on Windows 7, KeNotify.exe was crashing. Now there is no apparent crash, but nothing happens.
Also, there is a problem with the Button Support utility (touch sensitive controls). Whenever I reboot my system, all the white illumiation LEDs on my laptop are lit although I turned them off.
So, could someone confirm that they have a working Value Added Package v 1.2.28 on Windows 7 64bit ?

    Hi buddy,
Your posting is a little bit confusing and in my opinion you make something wrong. My Qosmio F50 runs pretty good on Windows 7 and I dont have any problems with the FN keys, illumination buttons or other function.
First of all make sure that all drivers are installed!!! I mean chipset, graphic, sound, etc. Check the device manager and if you can find unknown devices or yellow exclamation marks download the missing drivers on the Toshiba page.
The Button Support Utility has nothing to do with Flash Cards support utility. So before you make something wrong, please uninstall Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Card Supports Utility. Restart the notebook after uninstallation and clean the registry using CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/). If you have clean the registry, restart the notebook again.
Now you should install newest Toshiba Value Added Package. Restart again.
Install Flash Cards Support Utility for Vista. Restart again.
Now you should check if it works or not.
Sorry but thats all what I can say. I dont have any problems on my Qosmio F50 and Windows 7.

  • Qosmio X305-708 - Solved: Media Buttons not working after BIOS update

I had this problem so I thought I would share in case anyone else encountered the same problem.
Basically after installing BIOS 1.70 (in Windows 7 64bit) on my Qosmio X305-708, the media buttons remains on partially, as in they were dim, and they didn't work at all. The light even remained on when the computer was off (strangely only when plugged in). To solve this problem I reinstalled the BIOS through a boot disk (USB key), since then its been fine. Must of been a corrupt install I suppose.

    Hi mate,
Wow, thats really good work! :)
Im pretty sure that this would be interesting and very useful for other Qosmio X305-708 owner!!!

  • Qosmio X305 will only boot in safe mode or when the graphics card disabled

    Hi All
I am having a very concerning issue with my laptop (Toshiba Qosmio X305). It will only boot in safe mode or if I disable the graphics card.
Awhile back I upgraded the drivers for the nVidia 9800M GTX from the nVidia website, it worked fine for awhile, but then it started crashing randomly by giving me a full screen of random color then switching off. I fixed this by rolling back to the previous version of the drivers (the drivers that came with the laptop software).
After that it working perfectly for months but yesterday my machine started crashing and I could not get it to boot correctly.
I have completely deleted (not just a quick format) both the hard drives that came internally in the laptop and I have installed a clean version (the out of the box option) of the x64 Vista that came with the laptop from the recovery disks I created. After I did the install, it boots fine as only the standard VGA device is used, as soon as I installed the driver off the drivers and applications disk it would not boot correctly:
Just after the status bar comes up and it is about to show the windows logo, just before login, I get a black screen. I can hear that it is booting fine and I can even log in to windows and by memory make things run, but I can't see anything. I then got the latest drivers, again from the nVidia website and they are not helping at all.
My system is as follows (nothing has been added, its is just how I got it):
    Vista Ultimate x64
    4.00 GB RAM
    Intel Core 2 Quad
Like I said previously it is a clean install of the operating system, I have not added any programs, except for installing and then updating the display drivers.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi buddy,
It seems that this is a typical example, that only pretested display drivers from Toshiba should be used. Why?
The nVidia drivers are not pretested and they dont have an overheat protection. So for me it sounds like that the nVidia driver has destroyed your graphic card. That means no driver will help you and reinstallation of the whole system too.
I think the only option is replacing the graphic card. Therefore you should contact an authorized service provider in your country. Here you can search:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com
Explain the whole story and then you will see, what the technicians say. If your notebook is under warranty, hopefully this will be covered too. Normally other display drivers you have to install on your own risk
    Good luck! :)

  • Installing Windows XP on Qosmio X305-Q701

Is it possible to install Windows XP on my Qosmio X305-Q701 without the need of a floppy drive etc?
I saw a few other topics about it.
However on different models, and my laptop does not have the option of putting my SATA drive in to compatibility mode.
Don't mind if i have to slipstream a few drivers, but I need to know if there are XP drivers available for it, for when i look on the drivers download page i can only find Vista drivers.
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Kind regards,
    Jorde Vorstenbosch
P.s. bought my laptop in the states, So it's the best buy version. (heard they only sold these at best buy, so that's why)

I managed to get Win Xp x64 installing right with almost all drivers in it.
I have upgraded to the 1.70 BIOS version and made a modified version of my Win XP Pro x64 using nLite in order to integrate both SATA and Atheros wireless drivers.
SATA and Chipset drivers are both found on Intel's web site.
Atheros wireless ones were a bit tricky to find, but I managed to do it searching over the net.
Bluetooth driver is the one form Toshiba.
HD audio drivers came from Realtek web site.
Almost all drivers I've got for Win XP 32 serve the x64 version as well.
I have bluetooth, wireless, high def audio and GeForce (laptopvideo2go) drivers installed.
And the best of it all: THE BATTERY PROBLEM HAS GONE USING THIS X64 VERSION OF WINDOWS XP!
Using the x64 version means that you got all 4 Gigs of RAM properly recognized.
I can put all drivers up in a single file and upload to rapidshare, for instance, for those who want them.

  • Qosmio G30 and vga/pcb problems

My Qosmio G30 has developed a vga/pcb problem.
Toshiba engineers tell me the vga/pcb is corrupt and needs to be replaced but since this is built-in the whole mother board must be replaced.
The cost for this is nearly half the cost of the original machine and much more than many new Toshiba notebooks.
Anyone have similar problem or experience anyone have any suggestions.
    Edited by: ADMIN

To me this clearly sounds like the problem that stroke me last weekend - obviously the NVidia GPU died and causes the trouble. Check if your machine is still under warranty - if not i would claim goodwill.
If the repair-costs are too high for you i would sell it on Ebay and get another machine as the technology level is two years (which is a century in computer-business) and you can get better performance at a lower price-point - even if it hurts to let the G30 go.

  • Newbie: swap fn and ctrl keys on T60

I bought a used T60.  I am used to using HP Pavilions where the Fn and Ctrl keys are in the opposite positions as on the T60, and I am having trouble retriaining my fingers.
So i looked for info about how to swap them.  I understand KeyTweak doesn't work on the Fn key, and then I ran across a message about getting to the BIOS.
I have never messed with BIOS stuff before, but I did interrupt booting, get to it, but do not see swapping the Fn and Ctrl keys listed among the keyboard options.  So I am guessing this feature is maybe in a newer verison of the BIOS.
I don't want to trash my laptop, but I'd like to swap the functioning of these keys - is there an idiotproof way?
Also, I used the onetouch Pavilion keys a lot to invoke Firefox or thunderbird.  Is there a way to make a key on the T60 keyboard do that?  There are several keys I never use for anything, like PgUp, etc.
    Thanks.

Not exactly true. You can't swap the keys with ORIGINAL BIOS - there are modded versions available that will let you do it.

  • HT1222 hi,  i installed Mavericks 10.9.2 last week and am having trouble with FaceTime

since  i updated to 10.9.2 i've been having trouble facetiming from my mac.  I know the update was supposed to add call waiting to FaceTime, but mine no longer works at all after the update.  I can start a facetime chat but then the system tells me it's reconnecting and drops the call.  My ios devices have no trouble, so i know its not my wifi conection.  is anyone else having this problem?

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

  • Re: Qosmio X770 and Windows XP64bit

    Hi there,
I recently bought one new Toshiba Qosmio X770, but unfortunately it came with this new Windows 7.
I have 2 other toshiba notebooks, one is a NB200 Netbook with WinXP32bits running nicely about 1 year or more, and another big one Satellite P300 also with XP32bits.
All the softwares that I need - are running extremly good, without any conflicts, for more than a year!
But something is bothering me: After ripping of the HD from this new Qosmio X770, and trying to install Windows XP 64bits, Ive found that theres no, or anykind of support to such drivers from Toshiba.
I downloaded many drivers from the 3rd party hardware manufacturers, but only a phew worked.
Now I have this big, powerful computer, expensive, without any softwares (because, when I try to install any software that I already own, into the original Win7 64bits, it says that its incompatible, or you need to buy another version, and so on...)
My point is: Im not going to buy upgrades or other software just because some dumb Engineer built an entire new OS that requires entire new softwares, entire new Drivers, and so on. This is madness!
What should I do with this X770?
Im not going to throw it away, but you Toshiba Enginheers, should make Compatible drivers, at least for the Windows XP 64bits / 32bits.
Im not going to put this crapy Windows 7, just because someone at Microsoft wants that. I have my right to still use my usefull softwares and my Windows XP, wich works incredibly more smooth, uses less memory and works well than Win7.
    Many thanks for the support.
    Daniel.

Windows 7 => Windows XP 64bits with some fancy and diferent colors. Look at the Control Panel on the classic view, its the same as Windows XP! The main difference is that there are some few new items.
The Windows Kernel hasnt changed much since Windows XP, the main key is the memory addressing that really needs to be rebuild, due to additional 32bit addressing (64bit processors). But the base still the same, just a recompiled Windows XP.
The madness here is that every single year we are forced to buy software... Do you really need to spent money? Its like burning money: you already have something working (like Office 2003... it works even better than Office 2010... they changed only the menus, but the rest still the same) why buy something that has just changed the name and added some fancy buttons? this is like burning money...
    I know that we are year 2011, but lets look for something that has more than 100 years but the concept still the same and we still use it today: AC Three-phase induction motors - It works very well, requires very low or no maintenance at all, and delivers a nice and stable function - generating torque as long as the power supply is running ok. Theres another example: Radio FM / AM - the same as above. Combustion Engine - same as the above;
All Software should be made focused on the last longing utility - Software that will run 100 years, but will run extremly fast on 100 years Computers ..., than on fancy buttons or something like that.
Oh, btw, im still waiting, after about 2 hours, the finishing of SP1 Win7 install...
Im planning to test onto another harddisk, the installation of Windows XP 32bits on this computer :D
Hope to find 32bit driver somewhere...
    Daniel.
