Qosmio X305-Q705 BSOD while gaming

I bought this laptop in December from Best Buy, I live in Canada but it was bought in Delaware (my girlfriend lives in PA so she picked it up for me) and I picked it up when I visited her just after Christmas. Everything seemed to work ok, I went about 2 weeks with no problems and then after updating the bios to 1.70 (it's not at 1.80 with same problems that will be explained) as well as updated the Nvidia drivers with the beta drivers off the Nvidia site.
I refuse to format, as I know that will not fix this issue but this is my only computer, I do a lot of gaming and work on my computer away from home so I stopped investing in desktops and got a laptop to replace my desktop. I used a Toshiba a few years back, then I went to a MacBook Pro last May and now this, I never had a problem running games on my other 2 laptops when I had them but this one just keeps blue screening on me when gaming, at random. It will be less than 30 minutes playing a game, sometimes hours. It doesn't happen daily either so I do not know what is causing this but it is getting very very frustrating, I paid a lot of money for this laptop and it doesn't work. The system, for those who may ask is running Vista Home Premium 64-bit.
Here are the dates and times of the BSOD's I get:
1) Jan.14 at 00:29 hours, with BSOD error "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT" (while playing World of Warcraft);
2) Jan.15 at 02:32 hours, with BSOD error "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" also showing "dxgkrnl.sys" file below (while playing Warhammer Online);
3) Jan.16 at 01:45 hours, with BSOD error "DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (while playing Warhammer Online)"
4) Jan.17 at 23:21 hours, with BSOD error "IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" (while playing World of Warcraft);
5) Feb.01 at 14:13 hours, with BSOD error "IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" (while playing World of Warcraft).
Toshiba, what is going on? Please fix this, or send me back a full refund and I will take my business elsewhere! This is ridiculous that a brand new computer is having these issue, and it seems others have the same problem so it's not isolated to 1 or 2 machines it seems. you guys screwed up or put really really cheap parts in these systems. Oh, and it doesn't seem to overheat either, I keep it in a well ventilated and cool area as well as I have a laptop cooling pad underneath it, my MBP I had before this got hotter and never had problems so it's not a heat issue.

Wow, not a single response from anyone at Toshiba?
I just had another blue screen of death while playing WoW about 20 minutes before I posted this reply. This didn't show any specific error, it just said "A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated". I also had a video crash, I don't the file name with me but some error where my computer locked up for a few seconds, then the screen went black and then recovered and gave me a message saying a video file stopped working but has recovered. I think the video card and ram in this machine were bad right out of the box.
Seriously, this computer cost me a lot of money, and within the first few weeks of using it(about a week of using it under my normal usage conditions) I started getting BSOD's. My first laptop never had issues and was a Toshiba Satellite A100 (forget the rest of the model) and then I had a MacBook Pro which was great even with Vista x64 running through Bootcamp, but this Qosmio a completely different story, these BSOD's are starting to piss me off.
As I mentioned, my girlfriend bought it from a Best Buy in Delaware but by the time I got it home (I live in Toronto, ON) and started seeing the issues I had no way to return it otherwise I would have. Is anyone from Toshiba going to comment on this problem? I tried updating to the new 1.90 bios as well. Should I revert to the 1.40 bios or what because I didn't see the first BSOD until I updated to the 1.70 bios but of course I didn't have much time using the laptop prior to updating to 1.70 so I don't know if that was the problem or not, but 1.80 and 1.90 didn't fix anything regarding these BSOD's so I'm guessing it's faulty hardware you guys put in these systems.

If you read the terms of service, there is no official Toshiba presence here.  I'd suggest that you call Toshiba Tech Support and see what, if anything, they suggest.  Be prepared to use the recovery process to wipe the drive and put it back to 'out-of-the-box', as that is likely the first thing they will want you to do to eliminate a software issue.
I don't own a Qosmio, so I have nothing specific to suggest.  Sorry.

I'm in trouble. I've been having bsod while gaming since the las month. Before that there was no problems, everything was just going fine, and i haven't made any hardware change that can cause this behaviour.
While gaming i have a bsod and my pc restarts, leaving the motherboard wrong (i have to clear the cmos to be able to start the computer). Here's a piece of my dump file:

I have reisntalled windows 8.1 and ensured that all drivers ar up to date, passed memtest86 2 passes and no errors found. I really don't know what to do.
    Thanks

These crashes were related to memory corruption (probably caused by a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.  Please run verifier  first
If you are over-clocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
    In other words STOP!!!
If you do not know what this means you probably are not
1-Driver verifier (for complete directions see our wiki here)
2-Memtest. (You can read more about running memtest here)
I suggest that you first backup your data

  • Qosmio x305-Q706 BSOD

I keep getting the BSOD ramdonly and during gameplay right after i got the computer. I updated the bios, went through every single drivers, window updates, everything possible!!. I already sent the laptop into toshiba for repair, and when i got it back it still get the BSOD. they replaced the harddrive and said it was a bad harddrive. Toshiba did not send me a box to let me ship it to them again the third time I called. so much for customer support. now im stuck with a worthless $2000 laptop that can't do anything without locking up and restarting. I NEED SERIOUS HELP!
Ive seen other posts about the x305 with BSOD but they never got resolved neither.

Its a different error code everytime the bsod pops up so I cant reallt isolate the problem. Here are some
     Stop 0x0000000A / IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    Stop 0x00000050 / PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
     Stop 0x0000001E / KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
     Stop 0x000000d1 / DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
     Stop 0x00000024 / NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM
    Stop 0x0000003b
    Stop 0X000000f4
Some others but it doesnt show the whole code
    BCCode : a
    BCCode : c
    BCCode: 109
Should a brand new computer even have this many error codes? I am really at a loss.
And I will try calling Toshiba back and see if they can still help me since I still have my warranty.

  • Satellite P750-10R - BSOD while gaming - wrong graphic card?

I've been having trouble with this laptop since I got it. I've hardly been able to play any games on it even though it surpasses even the recommended specifications. Sometimes it will freeze, other times it will BlueScreen.
I've taken in to the shop three times, the last just two weeks ago, and it hasn't changed. Today I was comparing the specs and I noticed this on the Toshiba products specs:
Graphics adapter type : NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M with CUDA Technology and NVIDIA Optimus Technology
memory amount : 2,048 MB dedicated VRAM. Available graphics memory can be expanded using system memory, through TurboCache technology: up to 3,793 MB with 4 GB system memory installed as shown in the NVIDIA control panel, and up to 4,095 MB with 5 GB system memory (with pre-installed 64-bit operating system).
memory type : DDR3 Video RAM (resp. Video RAM and system memory combined)
    connected bus : PCI Express
[This is a screencap I took from the laptop.|http://i.imgur.com/NezvzgI.png]
I really am hoping I'm misunderstanding something here. Do these match up?
EDIT: The BSoD I get most often is this one: Blue screen Error - BCCode: 1000007e

    Hi,
Can I add a question to this thread please? I have a Satellite P750-13M and have had it for over a year and a half. Mainly I use it for work and some low intensity games, but recently I started using it for more graphic intensive games. Often the computer overheats and crashes when doing so. While investigating the problem I came across the same NVIDIA screen shot that wertxi posted. According to the NVIDIA control panel I only have 64MB of dedicate VRAM, but the P750-13M specs page ...
    http://www.toshiba.ie/discontinued-products/satellite-p750-13m/
... says that I should have 1GB of dedicated VRAM. Is this a discrepancy or am I not comparing like with like?
I haven't been having any blue screening, just over heating and slow graphics rendering, although the machine (supposedly!) exceeds the recommended requirements for the game.
    Thanks,
    Simon
EDIT - Just to clarify, in case I rambled too much, I do have both display adapters listed in device manager and both are up to date. My query is about the discrepancy in the dedicated VRAM indicated in the product specs and in the NVIDIA control panel.
    Thanks again

  • VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (igdkmd64.sys) crashing my NEW laptop and BSOD while gaming Windows 10

Recently I bought a new laptop, Lenovo Y50, and had no issues with it. I started playing a game called "Path of Exile" and while in the middle of the game it would freeze and then cause my laptop to crash into BSOD and give me the error message VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (igdkmd64.sys) which looked like this:
    Link to image
    https://communities.intel.com/servlet/JiveServlet/showImage/2-255820-239358/bsod2.jpg
I have searched through for assistance but found no resolution in the attempts I made. The most recent attempt was uninstalling the Intel Driver but that just lowered my FPS entirely. So I reinstalled and the problem came up again and then I foolishly shut my laptop off before it hit the BSOD and when I booted it back up then screen was all black and not changing. Scared of ruining my new computer, I hard shut down the laptop once again and then it booted up normally, only that it was much slower. Have I damaged my laptop? If so, what steps do I need to take? And yes, I have insurance.
    Specs:
    Processor 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4720HQ Processor (2.60GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
Operating system Windows 8.1 64 originally but updated to windows 10

    Hard Drive Hybrid 1TB 5400 RPM+8GB SSHD

I have posted for assistance on the following websites: Microsoft, Lenovo, Intel, and Yahoo. Thank you for your assistance.

I have the same issue with my Y50 laptop after updating to windows 10. For me there is one more problem in the chrome browser: image shaking on videos and gifs..I also tried to clean install windows 10, remove and reinstall drivers for intel and nvidia with no result.Maybe intell will update the drivers soon...

About two weeks ago, while playing some battlefield 3 my computer crashed to a BSOD. the only thing that worried me is that when it did I could hear one of my fans quickly ramp up to what sounds like 100% velocity.
so I instantly though "Oh god no! something must have over heated" so I looked around for any damage and I could not find any. I let the computer sit for a while and then booted up like normal. everything seems to
work fine under normal use but when playing something intensive, it will crash. I have been monitoring my temps and nothing is even close to being dangerously hot. I don't understand what is going on but things like
this are terrifying to me .   This is the error report that windows gave me, since i'm a noob I don't know what this is trying to say but if anyone out there could give me a hand it would be much appreciated.

  • Qosmio F40 - Random Shutdowns while gaming.

My Qosmio F40 has been crashing when I game. I'm playing either World of Warcraft or Warcraft3, and within 20-30 minutes the laptop just quickly turns off.
It won't let me power back up for about 5-10 minutes, and when it does it brings me to the black and white screen saying that it wasn't shutdown properly.
I've had no other problems with the Qosmio F40, I've been very happy with it.
This started happening about 2 weeks ago and has been consistent over those two weeks. I ran a 'Video Card Stability Test' and it also caused my laptop to crash. I've checked for new drivers and there are none available currently. My Video card came stock with the laptop and is a Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT.
I'm running Windows Vista (32-bit). I don't think it is getting over-heated because a few months ago I could seriously game on it for about 8-10 hours straight with no problems.
Any suggestions, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    I completely agree with Maurice.
Fact is that a non-Toshiba graphic driver doesnt support the overheating protection and usages of any 3rd graphic drivers can leads to the overheating issues
In your case the notebook could overheats due to the dust and debris inside the notebook.
This could prevent the fans from rotating with full speed.
So try to clean the ventilators using the compressed air spray which is a professional tool for such jobs ;)

  • Qosmio X305-Q705 - No hdmi video on hdtv

I've been really trying hard to hook up my laptop to Sharp Aquos 32' 1080p hdtv (Model - LC32GP1U) thru HDMI cable and can't get any external video. When I press FN+F5 the only option I have to choose from is LCD. I did read my hdtv settings and based on the manual it has to be set a specific video resolution. Regardless if my laptop video is native or a the desired hdtv video resolution (I set it 1024x768 32bit color) I still can't get any external video on my tv. I restarted my pc and still no external video. I also bought an hdmi to dvi conversion cable (connecting dvi to the back of my hdtv) and still no video. Is there way to test out if the hdmi port works on the pc. Does it work like a usb port??...meaning do you hear a sound when your connect/disconnect the hdmi cable? Or am i doing something wrong here? I also reinstalled my nvidia geforce 9700m gts drivers and also downloaded the new video drivers - beta version from toshiba support site that eventually leads to nvidia site. Right now I'm current waiting for the vga to dvi conversion cable as this is the last resort and I'm hoping it's going to work. If anyone has an other suggestions, I would really appreciate it. I would hate to use vga to dvi and there's no sound and hdmi supports both video/sound.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have the same model laptop, and I bought  a DVI-HDMI cable so I could plug in my external monitor using the HDMI port.  It's a huge improvement over the VGA output, which produced some horizontal ghosting effect that was annoying.
When I hit Fn+F5, I see my current video selection with 5 "bubbles" below it.  Keep hitting Fn+F5 until you select the one you want.  I don't understand why it would not give HDMI as one of the options.  I am using the LCD+HDMI option, and set it up to extend my desktop across both monitors.  There are nVidia settings to set all of that in the Display Settings if you right-clickthe Desktop and choose Personalize.
When I plugged in the HDMI, I plugged in the DVI side on the monitor first, and then plugged in the HDMI.  A bit of a flicker - and it was on.  I assume it's hot-pluggable, never read that it wasn't.  You can double-check the RealTek HD Audio Manager and make sure the HD audio ouput is turned too.
I'm hoping you just have to turn the HDMI on via Fn+F5.  I've never plugged my laptop into my HDTV, but some weekend I'll give it a try just to see how it works/looks.
    Hope this helps, good luck.

  • Qosmio X305-Q701 - Black Screen and sound loop while gaming

    Hi,
My Qosmio X305-Q701 has recently started crashing while playing any games. Never had a problem out of it until the past month. All games now from WoW and F.E.A.R. to solitare. It will just randomly go to a black screen and the last sound byte while loop over and over requiring a hard reboot.
Graphics card is Nvidia geforce 9700m gts series.
All drivers and directx is up to date running windows vista. I am not very tech savy so any help or expierence with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

I have the exacrt same issues, and have had them for some time. I tried all the software solutions, and mechanical solutions that I could perform myself ( cleaning the airflow vents, and cooling fan ) Nothing has worked. Sad thing is, no real solutions are ever given to this, so let me lay it down like this. The video card is a P.O.S. and is at fault. Only way to fix it is to replace it. Preferably with one equivelant, but from a different manufacturer. In all honesty, this is the worst computer I've ever owned. Even sadder is its the most expensive one I've ever bought. I've tried for help through the place I bought it ( Best Buy, which I am having my own difficulties dealing with ) and Toshiba support as well. No one has offered an explanation as to why this model isn't recalled, and or replaced because its a lemon. Good luck in getting it fixed. My own solution is to cut my losses, get a new computer ( which will never be a Toshiba again ) and chalk it up as lesson learned.

  • Qosmio X870 overheats while gaming

    Hello,
i have qosmio that is running about 95-100 celzius GPU and 85-90 CPU temperatures while gaming from day 1.
Then i got shut downs due to overheating about 9 months later.
I go to service, and they clean it and repaste it , it didnt shut down anymore but high temperatures stayed.
20 days later GPU died, they replaced it, then 10 months later GPU died again, i heard burning inside the laptop.
They put new one again, but after that when i game for 2 hours, screen shuts down at least once, somethimes twice in that time.
I took laptop to service for fourth time, few days later they are saying that they didn't still diagnosed the malfunction.
But my biggest concern is that temperatures are high all that time, i read on A.s.u.s forum that guy with that kind of temperatures got replace immediatly, and the new notebook got 20 degrees lower temp.
Laptop is about 20 months old, and my question is:
do i ever have right for replacement or they will just patch it up every few months until warranty expires :( because they are planing to repair it again.
I need it for video editing also, thats why i bought it, and now for the 4th time my bussines is on hold for a week or two.
Sorry for long post, im hoping for some answer or mail where i can request replacement, thank you.

As far as I know Toshiba authorized service partner can just repair the notebook and you should ensure that the notebook will be fixed to your fullest satisfaction.
    >I took laptop to service for fourth time, few days later they are saying that they didn't still diagnosed the malfunction. But my biggest concern is that temperatures are high all that time,
From my experience if the notebook does not shut down automatically, the temperature level isnt too high. Usually in case of overheating, the notebook should power off automatically to protect the internal parts from damage.

No. All notebook models with 5 at the end are models for US market only. In Germany you can get Qosmio X300 only.

  • Qosmio X305 will only boot in safe mode or when the graphics card disabled

    Hi All
I am having a very concerning issue with my laptop (Toshiba Qosmio X305). It will only boot in safe mode or if I disable the graphics card.
Awhile back I upgraded the drivers for the nVidia 9800M GTX from the nVidia website, it worked fine for awhile, but then it started crashing randomly by giving me a full screen of random color then switching off. I fixed this by rolling back to the previous version of the drivers (the drivers that came with the laptop software).
After that it working perfectly for months but yesterday my machine started crashing and I could not get it to boot correctly.
I have completely deleted (not just a quick format) both the hard drives that came internally in the laptop and I have installed a clean version (the out of the box option) of the x64 Vista that came with the laptop from the recovery disks I created. After I did the install, it boots fine as only the standard VGA device is used, as soon as I installed the driver off the drivers and applications disk it would not boot correctly:
Just after the status bar comes up and it is about to show the windows logo, just before login, I get a black screen. I can hear that it is booting fine and I can even log in to windows and by memory make things run, but I can't see anything. I then got the latest drivers, again from the nVidia website and they are not helping at all.
My system is as follows (nothing has been added, its is just how I got it):
    Vista Ultimate x64
    4.00 GB RAM
    Intel Core 2 Quad
Like I said previously it is a clean install of the operating system, I have not added any programs, except for installing and then updating the display drivers.
Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi buddy,
It seems that this is a typical example, that only pretested display drivers from Toshiba should be used. Why?
The nVidia drivers are not pretested and they dont have an overheat protection. So for me it sounds like that the nVidia driver has destroyed your graphic card. That means no driver will help you and reinstallation of the whole system too.
I think the only option is replacing the graphic card. Therefore you should contact an authorized service provider in your country. Here you can search:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com
Explain the whole story and then you will see, what the technicians say. If your notebook is under warranty, hopefully this will be covered too. Normally other display drivers you have to install on your own risk
    Good luck! :)

  • Installing Windows XP on Qosmio X305-Q701

Is it possible to install Windows XP on my Qosmio X305-Q701 without the need of a floppy drive etc?
I saw a few other topics about it.
However on different models, and my laptop does not have the option of putting my SATA drive in to compatibility mode.
Don't mind if i have to slipstream a few drivers, but I need to know if there are XP drivers available for it, for when i look on the drivers download page i can only find Vista drivers.
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Kind regards,

P.s. bought my laptop in the states, So it's the best buy version. (heard they only sold these at best buy, so that's why)

I managed to get Win Xp x64 installing right with almost all drivers in it.
I have upgraded to the 1.70 BIOS version and made a modified version of my Win XP Pro x64 using nLite in order to integrate both SATA and Atheros wireless drivers.
SATA and Chipset drivers are both found on Intel's web site.
Atheros wireless ones were a bit tricky to find, but I managed to do it searching over the net.
Bluetooth driver is the one form Toshiba.
HD audio drivers came from Realtek web site.
Almost all drivers I've got for Win XP 32 serve the x64 version as well.
I have bluetooth, wireless, high def audio and GeForce (laptopvideo2go) drivers installed.
And the best of it all: THE BATTERY PROBLEM HAS GONE USING THIS X64 VERSION OF WINDOWS XP!
Using the x64 version means that you got all 4 Gigs of RAM properly recognized.
I can put all drivers up in a single file and upload to rapidshare, for instance, for those who want them.
