Qosmio X500-110 - Slow start up
hi,
I bought new Qosmio X500-110 two weeks ago. In third day, I realized that HDDs are too slow. After tnb computer changed this one. Second Qosmio is too slow. Especially start-up time is average 10 minutes. Also right speaker was scratchy. at the moment, it is in technical service again and again it may be changed.
BIOS is 1.40
Don't work sleep mode. This problem is general. everbody says this problem.
HOW MUCH IS START-UP TIME ON YOUR QOSMIO X500's???
Hi
Its not tricky to reduce the start up time from Windows:
-Defragment your HDDs
-Uninstall all programs that you dont need
-Run CCleaner to clean Windows registry
-Disable all startup programs that you dont need in msconfig
-etc.
If you search with Google and here in forum you will find enough threads where you can find solutions for this.

Qosmio X500 is not very old notebook model.
Usually the warranty should be valid. Is the warranty valid?
If yes, get in contact with the Toshiba ASP (service provider) in your country.
The guys should replace the drive if its faulty.
PS: In user manual you can find a list of compatible ODD drives
- *Panasonic BD-R/RE UJ240*
- Hitachi DVD Super Multi GT20N/GT20F
- Toshiba Samsung DVD Super Multi TS-L633C/TS-L633Y
- Etc
Unfortunately there is only on Blue-ray drive listed as compatible part. -
Qosmio X500-110 - Webcam failed to initialize
Hi
I have a Qosmio x500-110. Bought brand new out of the box and I havnt changed nothing.
It displays this error message after startup "webcamera failed to initialize...restart application or computer" and the webcam stops working. Also when this happens the finger print reader and bluetooth devices also stop working. The finger print say "failed to connect to sensor". As soon as you restart the computer it works fine. Then again it may go anytime.
I dont know wat is causing this prblem. I have downloaded and reinstalled the drivers also (Windows 7 64bit) and the softwares for the same but dosnt help.Hi
So you have already reinstalled the webcam driver and still running preinstalled OS without any 3rd party applications and this error occurs?
Well, I think in this case your only chance is the authorized service provider. The technicians should check your notebook, maybe its a hardware problem or something else. Just contact the guys and explain the situation. They will help you as best as possible.
Good luck! :) -
I own a X500-110 model. I payed a lot for this one, and it slowly starts to annoy me.
My microphone, camera and bluetooth simply don't work for about a month and a half.
Please advise
I have one of the newest Satellite models, and it runs as a beast (i payed a lot less for it)Hi

Qosmio X500 won't start and the power LED is blinks every 5 seconds
Hi,
I need help my X500 won't start now. I tried to start the NB as usual and suddenly the X500 wont boot or even power up.
If I press power button it doesnt make any sound, the power LED on button and the second power LED just bliks once and turns of, and keep blinking every 5 seconds.
I tried to:
* remove battery and power up with AC only
* power with battery only
* remove battery hold power button for 30 seconds and more athen power with AC only, battery only
but it didn't helped.
I checked the AC & Battery LEDs, but they are not flashing, they are just RED, so there is not proble in battery or AC.
Any idea where could be the problem?
Thanks for help

hello FrankieCz
i have similar problem with my laptop
how do you solve it -
VMware error on Qosmio x500-110 and Win 7 64bit
I am having problems running Vmware player on this notebook. It allways gives this error:
Operation on file "D:\VM\WinXP - VS 2008 - Blanco\XPSP3VMwTEMP-s003.vmdk" failed.
If the file resides on a remote file system, please make sure your network connection and the server where this disk resides are functioning properly. If the file resides on removable media, reattach the media.
Choose Retry to attempt the operation again.
Choose Abort to terminate this session.
Choose Continue to forward the error to the guest operating system.
D is local, secondary drive, not remote one. I have trying same with C primary drive, and allways getting this error. I have tried:
Vmware Player 3.0, 3.1
Vmware player 2.5.3
Vmware workstation 7.01
on original BIOS versions, then on 1.9, and latest 2.2...
I am running Windows 7 Enterprise N, 64 bit. Everything is updated, I don't have any issues or problems except this. It is not occasional error, it is rule! Every time i start any version of vmware i get this error. Vmware support told me to try several BIOS versions to see if there is problems with motherboard but I did that and no luck. I have tried all of their products and got exactly the same behavior. I have tried all combination of vmware player options and got allways same error...
Please can someone confirm that VmWare Player or Workstation is working on their laptop? Am I missing something? Virtualization is enabled in BIOS. I don't have idea what is going on... Vmware image is working flawlessly in other notebooks (HP 8510w, Toshiba Tecra2, Dell Latitude etc..), and on all tried desktops/servers. Definitely it has something to do with this notebook.> mware support told me to try several BIOS versions to see if there is problems with motherboard but I did that and no luck
Thats nonsense you cannot try different BIOS versions because there is only one version (at this time BIOS v2.20)
> Please can someone confirm that VmWare Player or Workstation is working on their laptop? Am I missing something? Virtualization is enabled in BIOS. I don't have idea what is going on.
Why should not run the software on this notebook??
The notebook supports this CPU:
http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=43122&processor=i7-720QM&spec-codes=SLBLY
The VT technology is supported by CPU and BIOS.
So it should not be a problem with the hardware
I think its software issue maybe the Win 7 64bit version makes some troubles with the Win XP 32bit OS which you try to run via VM.
At the other hand the error says something about network connection and the server and disk resides
The notebook supports 2 HDDs and SATA drivers are needed in order to recognize the HDD. Maybe this is the issue what do you think??? -
Qosmio X500 - NEW BIOS update - 1.90
Found a new BIOS update 1.9 on the Australian Toshiba Website. This morning it was showing version 1.40, but now it says version 1.90. I will try it on my X500 when I get home tonight, see if it fixes the Sleep-wake up issue.

AaronHey danied...thanks for sharing this....yes I have a Qosmio x500-110 (win7 64 bit) and its been giving the Bluetooth disconnection/ finger print sensor/and webcam not initialised problem since the start.

Qosmio X500/00X System Recovery (Factory Reset) From Hard Disk Drive or Separate Disk
Hey Guys,
Looking for your advice and any links if any...cheers in advance
My Situation
In December 2009 I purchased a Toshiba Qosmio X500 - Model No. PQX33A-00X00J
At the time I upgraded my purchase from Toshiba Reseller BD4U, going from the standard 1x 500GB Sata drive + 1x 64GB SSD... to instead having 2x 500GB sata drives. I purchased with 3 year onsite next business day warranty, that is is now expired.
It came loaded with MS Win 7 Premium Home Edition - but no disks provided.
My Needs
I need/want to factory reset my PC - its starting to run slow
I need to re-partition from my existing 4x partitions to just having 2
The Issues
Possibly as a result of upgrading the disk drives at time of purchase, I don't believe I have a hidden Recovery partition in order to do a System Recovery from the Hard Disk Drive - see image of my current partitions attached
I don't have Win 7 OS installation disks or Toshiba Driver disks as they should have been installed by Toshiba
My Questions
Do You agree that I DONT have a Recovery Partition - when looking at the partition image? I'm confused on this point coz people say its hidden!?
Given I have no Toshiba Drivers Disk or Windows 7 OS disks - what should I do? I'm thinking of downloading Win 7 (use my product key from sticker under PC) and making a disk/USB (but need to learn how)
Is this where I get ALL necessary Toshiba drivers for my PC from?
Does Toshiba provide a link on its site and instructions on where to get Win 7 from so I can make a recover disk??
Notes
Tried to email Toshiba support but at step 1 of their email process validation failed due to my PC being out of warranty so will call them on Monday instead
THANK YOU THANK YOU, for any help you can give big ro small
Cheers
RickWOW, thanks Macius for that great, full and thorough reply...cheers mate
I suspected I didn't have a recovery partition - so thanks for confirming it as I planned to risk it and try! I guess it doesn't really matter why, and it would be futile to go and blame the re-seller or Toshiba at this late stage in the game in hopes they would help...
Yeah, I just went to Microsoft Software Recovery hoping to download Win 7 OS and create a recovery disk but of course Microsoft would NOT allow it due to it being software that was pre-installed on the device blah blah blah (see error image)
And I didn't bother back then in 2009 to create recovery media as you wisely descibed, mostly due to laziness and mentally putting it in the 'too hard basket'...I didn't really understand it - or much about computers at the time.
Re - your Option #2 - thanks for confirming Toshiba drivers. I could/can do this - but don't really want to buy something I already have, perhaps I'll check out ebay or see if a friend has a disk
Re - your Option #1 - I'm currently based in Vietnam and wont be back in Oz till late in the year, so will see if I can find a reliable Toshiba service provider here - but wont hold me breath on this one
I'm thinking that IF Option #1 is a No-Go then - maybe Plan B or Option #3 could be:
Do an Audit of Programs to identify those I don't need and can safely remove - then remove using Control Panel/ Remove Programs tool
Reformat all other drives (not C:// where OS is)
Then use some re-partition software e.g. Disk-Partiton.com
Any final thoughts???
Anyhow - thanks very much again

Slow start up and Shut Down since upgrading to Mountain Lion - Etrecheck Result query
Hello, I have recently upgraded my operating system from Snow Leopard to the latest Mountain Lion from the app store. My Macbook Pro (early 2010) is now experiencing slow start up times (more than 1 minute) and slow shut down (more than 45 seconds). Programs such as iPhoto and Firefox are now taking a long time to start up too and the multicoloured wheel is appearing a lot.It was always snappy and very quick with Snow Leopard. I have seen that quite a lot of people seem to have had similar issues too.
I have Verified and Repaied my disk, reset SMC, and PRAM numerous times and cleared the system caches, as well as making a new user account and opened in Safe Mode. "Searchlight" has finished indexing. Nothing I've done so far has helped the issue. I have run an Etrecheck and note that a few things have "failed", the results are below. Does anyone know what these items do or how to correct them? These could be the cause of the issue as they are Apple items - e.g. account, ID and @me.com processes.
I did not do a clean/fresh installation of Mountain Lion, but I did verify the Snow Leopard disk before I installed it. I'm thinking perhaps to do a clean install but I'm not sure if this will resolve the "failed" Etrecheck issues or not?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance.

How to deactivate Windows Key on Qosmio X500 while gaming?
Hey,
I just bought my first ever laptop and went with the Qosmio X500/02M.
Am having a bit of trouble adjusting to the keyboard layout at the moment after years of desktop and normal keyboard use.
I seem to have trouble epsecially with the Windows Logo Key while i'm gaming in that i keep hitting it and getting popped out to the desktop.
Have looked in all the places i can think of to disable this key, does anyone know of a way i can do this so i dont have to resort to actually popping the button out of the keyboard itself ?Hi
In Windows registry you can disable the Windows key. Unfortunately it disables only the key combinations like Windows-key + E (start explorer) but if you press the Windows-key only, it still opens the Windows menu.
Anyway, here it is:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Policies\ Explorer
There you have to create the new key NoWinKeys (REG_DWORD). Set the value data to 1.
Restart your notebook and check this again! -
Qosmio X500-148 - Large file copy stucks
Large file copy (~5-10gb) between USB or Firewire disk stucks the PC. It goes up to 50% then slows down and there is no possibility to do anything including cancel the task or open the browser or WIn Explorer or Task manager.
Event viewer does not show anything strange.
This happens only with Windows 7 64bit - no problem with Windows 7 32bit (same external hardware). No problem when copying between internal PC disk.
The PC is very powerful - Qosmio X500-148The external Hardware is:
1.5 TB WD Hard disk USB
1.0 TB WD + 250GB Maxtor + 250GB Maxtor on Firewire
I have used standard copy feature - copy and paste - as well as
Viceversa Pro for folder sync with same results
Please note that the same external configuration was running properly on a 1 core PC - Satellite - running on Win7 x86 without problems. Since I have moved on Win7 x64 on my brand new X500-148 I have a great del of copying problems
Installed all Windows upgrade and the Event Monitor doesn't show anything strange when copying -
Random BSOD - Toshiba Qosmio X500 13R (Windows 7 Home Premium x64) have min
I've been having some problems with random BSODs on my laptop.
The laptop itself is fairly new, bought in March this year, really good model but refently I started having problems.
One day I closed the laptop and thinking it went into sleep mode but a few hours later when I opened it a BSOD stared me in the face, the processor part was pretty hot so I immediately restarted it to lower the temperature, but I remember that the BSOD had something about "Kernel Power" written on it.
It happend 3-4 times since then, the third time it happened I enabled minidump logging so now I also have the log from the last time it happened, can anyone take a look at it and tell me what is going on and how to fix it??
I still have a guarantee on this baby so I can get it fixed for free if it's a hardware issue, still I have some important work to do this week (already almost lost a crucial project file on this) so I want to try and fix it myself for now, until I get this project done.
Thanks!!!

The BSOD can be caused by software of hardware issue.
You can check if new OS installation would solve this if its software issue then a fresh OS installation is the right workaround. Before starting a OS installation, backup the data ;)
But of course the issue could be related to hardware; for example high temperature.
You said that you have noticed higher temperature while happening.
So maybe the memory modules are affected by higher temperature and this leads to BSOD. In most cases clogged fans are reason for that. Check if dust and debris needs to be removed you can remove dust using compressed air spray.
But if this does not help, I would recommend checking the hardware under warranty conditions -
Qosmio X500-15F - How can I modify the DPI?
Hello
With Qosmio X500-15F and graphic card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M
I'm using a professional software for jewelry building (Matrix 6.0 based on Rhinoceros 3D 4.0 SR9). When starting it, the software is asking me to set the DPI to normal.
How can I modify the DPI? I already tried different resolution settings. It doesn't change the problem.
Thanks for helpDPI is how many pixels per inch of the LCD. You can't change that.
I think the software needs a specific resolution or LCD size. Try lowering the resolution to 1280x800 or try an external monitor. -
<p>Hello!<br /><br />I bought two laptops Toshiba Qosmio X500-126 in 2010 (one for me and one for my boss). <br /><br />The problems began on the first year. <br />One of the laptops (the one of my boss) was literally thrown out as rubbish a year after the purchase. <br /><br />The problems with my laptop started with the registration of the warranty. <br />After several calls to the store and a few hours I was able to register the warranty. <br /><br />My first complaint was about overheating and shutdown (enter date 16.07.2012). The laptop was warming up so much that the fan had melted and separated from the bottom cover at one of the ends. I took the laptop from repair on 23.07.2012 and they made me pay for fixing it. <br /><br />On 01.10.2012 I left the laptop for repair again due to overheating and shutdown problems. The temperature began literally to melt and bend the upper and lower lid ... <br /><br />The lower lid wasdeformed to such an extent that it is separated from the rear side and had trouble with the hinge of the display. Because of the hot air from the fan, the screen bottom began to fade (near to the fan). <br />Moreover, the computer totally refused to work and to turn onagain. <br /><br />At the repair office they replaced the charger, cleaned the laptop and sent me an offer for a new bottom and top cover. They told me the damages were mechanical and I caused them! <br /><br />On 25.02.2013 my laptop refused to turn on again and had to bring it for repair again.<br />They give it back to me with changed charger on 28.02.2013. <br /><br />This time I got blamed for the bad conditions at our office, although there was no other case of a broken only equipment for the last four years except the laptop.<br /><br />On the 30.07.2013 I left the laptop againfor repair. <br />This time I chose another maintenance office that works with Toshiba. The plastic parts of the laptop were so bent and melted that this time no one could say that I've broken it. The laptop was heating like a stove... <br /><br />Through the warranty, the bottom cover was replaced, but not the top cover. Its lower part, which is close to the fan and to the display, was also visibly melted.. <br /><br />The repair was completed on the 14.08.2013.<br /><br />A week after I noticed problems with the display. <br /><br />First, I started to get green lines and pixels on the display, and then when one tried starting the computer, the display refused to work.</p><p><br />I left my laptop for repair again – this was on the 16.10.2013. <br />I definitely regret the choice I made when buying my laptop.... <br />The truth is that I am convinced that the model Toshiba Qosmio x500-126 has some serious problems!<br /><br />Another option is that I've got adefective batch?!</p><p>I'm a professional 3D designer and I have never come across such a defective product like this one! Nneither I, nor my colleagues will buy anything made by Toshiba again! </p><p>I hope no one will have my problems! <br />My warranty expires in a month and definitely I won’t give a penny for further repairs... <br /><br />I will simply buy a new laptop from another brand.</p><p>MyI only hesitation is whether to shoot video with the deformed Toshiba Qosmio (I'm sure many people will be interested to see how a toshiba computer bought for € 1,750 is a total wreck) or to sell the parts at a lower price to help the people who are caught up in the Qosmio hell... </p><p><br />I feel that in Bulgaria Toshiba's importer resells defective goods on full price without the knowledge of Toshiba... I'm very disappointed!</p><p><br />There are two photos: <br /><a href="http://pho.to/3zTfz">http://pho.to/3zTfz</a></p><p><br />PS: My laptop serial number is: 4A109347W (if anyone from Toshiba decided to check my case and not to delete this post.)</p>
Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Its really pity that you had such problems with your notebook. :(
Hardware problems are really annoying and I can understand your very well.
You said the notebook has been taken for the repair again so lets hope it will be fixed properly this time
Ive got two Toshiba notebooks.
Both have been running properly all the time. But of A210 shut-off automatically some month ago.
I disassembled the notebook (warranty was not valid anymore) and cleaned the fans.
The cooling modules were really dirty and I removed a lot of dust.
I renewed also the thermal grease. Since then the unit run properly. No shut down anymore.
However, good luck mate and hopefully the agents will be able to fix the hardware problems.
