Qosmio X500-148 freezes from day 1

I just bought a X500-148. Started freezing from day 1. I thought it was the sharescope software I was using. However the vendor tells me the software has no issues, so I began to suspect it was my 1800 quid X500. I updated all the drivers, but it still would freeze intermittently. Then one day I powered it down and it froze whilst in the power down mode and I had to remove the power cord and battery to fully switch it off.
After this, it would often not even go through the boot process. When it did boot up and load windows, I tried the re-install windows to earlier date option. Needless to say it froze during the middle of this and so windows 7 is now also totaly corrupt and knackered.
I have been told by an expert it has to be the Toshiba hardware, i.e. the laptop itself as the fact it was freezing during booting means it could never have been windows or any of the software. To my horror I checked out the web site here and find Toshibas idea of service is to return it to PC World and let them fix it. They collected my laptop on the 23 December but have lost it. I have spent hours on the phone on a 0844 rate number to no avail.
Im back on the Toshiba web site trying to find a email address to write and complain to. Guess what, I cant even seem to find an email address for the computer division.
Had I known Toshibas idea of service is to return it to the Dixons cowboys to fix, I would never ever have bought it. I doubt I will ever see the lap top again, I put a load of expensive software on it and also I had down loaded 11 hours of family video which i was in the middle of edditing. Hours of work and expense all seem to be up in smoke now.
Its early days, but I rather suspect I am going to regret this purchase.
If anyone has an email address for Toshiba in the UK, please let me know, I wish to repeat the above but in more detail to them.

Another update no joy. After establishing this was fault which i first reported to them on the 16th Dec, now many more times / hours wasted on the 0844 number, I have established its actually the 64GB SSD disk they want to replace, but they claim they dont have one and cant get hold of any to fix the fault.
This Toshiba laptop aside from being faulty from day 1 and the worry caused (Claiming the PC was lost, then later claiming the disk with my data is defective) is a real big problem now. I've now been without a laptop for over 1 month now and its starting to interfere with my work I am unable to do on it.
I am trying to get PC World repair department to return the PC so I can recover the disk drive with my data on it myself. I will then begin the process to take Toshiba / PC World to task in order to cover my expenses and losses and buy a new laptop obvoulsy of a different brand.
I was thinking DELL because I understand that is a manufacturer that actually deals with its customers and indeed if service or repair is needed undertakes such work themselves. (my reasoning that you are then dealing with the organ grinder rather than the monkey). What do other people think?

Large file copy (~5-10gb) between USB or Firewire disk stucks the PC. It goes up to 50% then slows down and there is no possibility to do anything including cancel the task or open the browser or WIn Explorer or Task manager.
Event viewer does not show anything strange.
This happens only with Windows 7 64bit - no problem with Windows 7 32bit (same external hardware). No problem when copying between internal PC disk.
The PC is very powerful - Qosmio X500-148

    The external Hardware is:
1.5 TB WD Hard disk USB
    1.0 TB WD + 250GB Maxtor + 250GB Maxtor on Firewire
I have used standard copy feature - copy and paste - as well as
Viceversa Pro for folder sync with same results
Please note that the same external configuration was running properly on a 1 core PC - Satellite - running on Win7 x86 without problems. Since I have moved on Win7 x64 on my brand new X500-148 I have a great del of copying problems
Installed all Windows upgrade and the Event Monitor doesn't show anything strange when copying

    Hi Master G,
    Thnx for you suggestions.
I dont use Nokia PC Suite.
I contacted the Toshiba Tech Support. They suggested me to tested the laptop removing the battery & using only adapter power and if problem still persists, try using only battery. My laptop froze in both! :'(
Now they are recommending changing the RAM & trying it out!
Yes i do have the "Toshiba Fingerprint Utility"
How would i update the BIOS?
And how can i find out what Version of the iRST driver i've got?
    Thanks again.

  • Qosmio X500/00X System Recovery (Factory Reset) From Hard Disk Drive or Separate Disk

    Hey Guys,
Looking for your advice and any links if any...cheers in advance
    My Situation
    In December 2009 I purchased a Toshiba Qosmio X500 - Model No. PQX33A-00X00J
At the time I upgraded my purchase from Toshiba Reseller BD4U, going from the standard 1x 500GB Sata drive + 1x 64GB SSD... to instead having 2x 500GB sata drives. I purchased with 3 year onsite next business day warranty, that is is now expired.
It came loaded with MS Win 7 Premium Home Edition - but no disks provided.
    My Needs
I need/want to factory reset my PC - its starting to run slow
I need to re-partition from my existing 4x partitions to just having 2
    The Issues
Possibly as a result of upgrading the disk drives at time of purchase, I don't believe I have a hidden Recovery partition in order to do a System Recovery from the Hard Disk Drive - see image of my current partitions attached
I don't have Win 7 OS installation disks or Toshiba Driver disks as they should have been installed by Toshiba
    My Questions
Do You agree that I DONT have a Recovery Partition - when looking at the partition image? I'm confused on this point coz people say its hidden!?
Given I have no Toshiba Drivers Disk or Windows 7 OS disks - what should I do? I'm thinking of downloading Win 7 (use my product key from sticker under PC) and making a disk/USB (but need to learn how)
Is this where I get ALL necessary Toshiba drivers for my PC from?
Does Toshiba provide a link on its site and instructions on where to get Win 7 from so I can make a recover disk??
    Notes
Tried to email Toshiba support but at step 1 of their email process validation failed due to my PC being out of warranty so will call them on Monday instead
THANK YOU THANK YOU, for any help you can give big ro small
    Cheers
    Rick

WOW, thanks Macius for that great, full and thorough reply...cheers mate
I suspected I didn't have a recovery partition - so thanks for confirming it as I planned to risk it and try! I guess it doesn't really matter why, and it would be futile to go and blame the re-seller or Toshiba at this late stage in the game in hopes they would help...
Yeah, I just went to Microsoft Software Recovery hoping to download Win 7 OS and create a recovery disk but of course Microsoft would NOT allow it due to it being software that was pre-installed on the device blah blah blah (see error image)
And I didn't bother back then in 2009 to create recovery media as you wisely descibed, mostly due to laziness and mentally putting it in the 'too hard basket'...I didn't really understand it - or much about computers at the time.
Re - your Option #2 - thanks for confirming Toshiba drivers. I could/can do this - but don't really want to buy something I already have, perhaps I'll check out ebay or see if a friend has a disk
Re - your Option #1 - I'm currently based in Vietnam and wont be back in Oz till late in the year, so will see if I can find a reliable Toshiba service provider here - but wont hold me breath on this one
I'm thinking that IF Option #1 is a No-Go then - maybe Plan B or Option #3 could be:
Do an Audit of Programs to identify those I don't need and can safely remove - then remove using Control Panel/ Remove Programs tool
Reformat all other drives (not C:// where OS is)
    Then use some re-partition software e.g. Disk-Partiton.com
    Any final thoughts???
Anyhow - thanks very much again

  • Difference between Qosmio X500-13P and X500-148?

I'm considering buying a Qosmio X500 and I've noticed that the only 2 models listed on this site are the 148 and 149. Currys, Dixons, PC World etc are all selling a X500-13P model which seems to be very similar to the 148? What's the difference between these models? The 13P is about 500 cheaper so I'm wondering what the 148 model has that makes it so much more expensive?
    Nic

    heh
I honestly wish I could but sadly this is a near year od issue.
R780 march last year overheating badly withing 4 month.
Swapped for a HP DV7 overheating within 4 month
Swapped in Nov for a Envy overheating within 2 weeks exchanged for same model as told I must take a direct store replacment not a online model 6 weeks later took the George Foreman grill back with it toasting at what I have found tonight to be well over 110C (seems thats the sensor max)
On the last return I was given a new receipt as if it was a fresh sale so a new 12 month warranty.
Can't get my money back as used and outside of 30 days so they where saying store swap again problem is the in store stuff is your bog standard consumer stuff so they agreed to allow a swap for a online model so stuck waiting till they get somehting suitable online Asus G73 or Qosi.
Spoke to Toshiba yesterday and they expect the -150 to be online with toshiba direct Uk by the end of this week so its a case of when pcworld will get them.
Situation is getting worse as I actually burned my arm on the bloody thing today unfortunately my job dictates I have to be in game (community rep on a MMORPG) have dropped graphics to minimum resolution and settings but still going obscenely hot if I havent got a resolution by the end of the week then I think I'll have to return it on H&S grounds then work round at a mates house until PCW actually get a suitable model online.

  • Qosmio X500 - How to enable recording from internal speaker?

How do you enable recording from internal speaker on Qosmio X500?
Is this possible because from Control Panel / Sound / Recording only microphone can be seen.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi
Do you want to record the sound that will be played through the internal speakers?
Therefore you can use the Windows Sound Recorder or other tools like Audacity. Latter is a very nice freeware tool. :)

  • Re: Qosmio X500 - Monitor fails to turn on after waking from Sleep mode

    Hello all,
I have a problem with my Qosmio X500-10T:
After placing it into Sleep mode, upon waking it up again (opening the lid, pressing a key, moving the mouse or pressing the power button) the screen fails to turn on (it could possibly be a black screen, although I doubt it as I cannot really see any traces of the LED backlight). The only way beyond this is rebooting by holding down the power button.
    I appreciate any help.

I have a X500-10T, under 4 weeks old. Straight from the box it had the problems with going to sleep/hibernation and the only way to bringit back to life was to remove the battery and follow the reset procedue as instructed by Toshiba technicians. Currently the sleep and hibenation has been disabled, it was unuasble. I have a bluetooth mouse that also is a nightmare, it drops in and out of operation at any time, mostly if left untouched for a while. Some times a reboot brings it back to life whilst at other times it takes 30-40 minutes of switching on and off a number of settings, cant' realy workout what's going on. This unit was supplied with the latest BIOS ver 1.4 so not known any difference.
Technicians aslo did a full re-set bakt to factory defaults, this did not make any difference apard from giving me several hours of work in restalling all my programmes. I am worried as I only have just over 11 months warranty left. I have been advised not to use the fingure print identification system as any protected data will be un recoverable if it goes wrong, I would be interested if any other users have any concerns about this, the reminder to set this is driving me crazy, and apparently it can't be switched off when I asked.Has any one who had thee issues managed to get it sorted. The big question for me is it a BIOS problem, graphic card software issue or a Windows 7 issue.

  • Qosmio X500/02G gaming/fingerprint/crashing problems

hi all, i have recently brought a Qosmio X500/02G about 2 months ago, i had initially had a problem where i launched modern warfare 2 and it took forever to load then i had massive lag in the game where my soldier couldnt even move most the time and i was waiting for it to crash but never did it just lagged the whole time, so took it into harvey norman to check it out they rebooted it and now i my original fingerprints dont work and when i try to install it again it says already stored but their is no finger prints stored in the finger print menu, however my game started running with less lag, but then once i passed a few levels it starts massivly lagging again, i have called toshiba support and havnt had much luck accept to take it back to harvey normans and get them to sort it but i havnt had much luck so far. I payed $3,300 for this machine and was promised it was the best for gaming but so far has been a massive headache, is it because its 64 bit?  this model doesnt have an option to run in 32 bit as its designed only for 64 bit... advice? shall i take it back to harvey normans and make them fix it till it runs perfect with no lag or never crashes on any of my games (it even crashes on colin mcrae dirt)
Any help would be greatly appreciated and model details are below

It had problems the first day i brought it, and then when i installed modern warfare 2 it lagged like crazy and i returned it to harvey normans straight away to complain about it, then they reformated it and, i lost the fingerprinting ability with a few of my fingers as it stored it in a place where i cant delete and it wont recognise it any more, alot of people have this problem also with upgrading their toshiba to windows 7 where mine is reformating, and then the computer crashes on colin mcrae dirt constantly and especially when it loads the races up, then it freezes whilst watching a dvd on it in which i have to restart the computer, then the most recent event is it goes to a blue screen and tells me its dumping physical memory then shuts down and when rebooted the prompting got worse till the point where i have had to do a recovery where it is back to some what of a stable state but end result im not happy at all with this laptop and i wish i never brought it. If toshiba wants my money in future they better sort this problem out asap.
This is all i could gather from the computer crashing.

  • Qosmio X500-128, taking forever to boot also Toshiba service station error

    Hi
My toshiba qosmio x500-128 is taking forever to boot up these days, iver rolled back the system using system restore, ive stopped any unessential startup services that i know are not req at startup but the system still takes forever to boot, ive also updated to the latest BIOS etc
Another thing is that everytime i login i get the error that Toshiba Service station has stopped working...
any help would be greatly appreciated

So if I am to do a system reformat. I am no novice with computers but by no means completely efficient at everything. What is the "best-practice" when doing a system reformat?
Burn a reformat disc from the system utilities?
Is there a way to reformat that would install the latest drivers/BIOS?
I am going to have a headache with the stuff on my HDD, eg. iTunes, photos, university work don't think I have enough space on my extra HDD's to store it all then to re-transfer it all back... :(
Lets just say I'm not looking forward to doing it, and I am the one everyone goes to to do these sort of things for, I don't mind if I mess up their computers that much but this laptop is my baby :D

The laptop itself is fairly new, bought in March this year, really good model but refently I started having problems.
One day I closed the laptop and thinking it went into sleep mode but a few hours later when I opened it a BSOD stared me in the face, the processor part was pretty hot so I immediately restarted it to lower the temperature, but I remember that the BSOD had something about "Kernel Power" written on it.
It happend 3-4 times since then, the third time it happened I enabled minidump logging so now I also have the log from the last time it happened, can anyone take a look at it and tell me what is going on and how to fix it??
I still have a guarantee on this baby so I can get it fixed for free if it's a hardware issue, still I have some important work to do this week (already almost lost a crucial project file on this) so I want to try and fix it myself for now, until I get this project done.

The BSOD can be caused by software of hardware issue.
You can check if new OS installation would solve this if its software issue then a fresh OS installation is the right workaround. Before starting a OS installation, backup the data ;)
But of course the issue could be related to hardware; for example high temperature.
You said that you have noticed higher temperature while happening.
So maybe the memory modules are affected by higher temperature and this leads to BSOD. In most cases clogged fans are reason for that. Check if dust and debris needs to be removed you can remove dust using compressed air spray.
But if this does not help, I would recommend checking the hardware under warranty conditions

  • Qosmio X500-110 - Slow start up

    hi,
I bought new Qosmio X500-110 two weeks ago. In third day, I realized that HDDs are too slow. After tnb computer changed this one. Second Qosmio is too slow. Especially start-up time is average 10 minutes. Also right speaker was scratchy. at the moment, it is in technical service again and again it may be changed.
    BIOS is 1.40
Don't work sleep mode. This problem is general. everbody says this problem.
HOW MUCH IS START-UP TIME ON YOUR QOSMIO X500's???

    Hi
Its not tricky to reduce the start up time from Windows:
    -Defragment your HDDs
-Uninstall all programs that you dont need
-Run CCleaner to clean Windows registry
-Disable all startup programs that you dont need in msconfig
    -etc.
If you search with Google and here in forum you will find enough threads where you can find solutions for this.

  • Qosmio x500 - "Delay in part delivery" 2 month long repair

I booked my Qosmio x500 laptop in for warranty repair for a failed hard drive replacement almost 2 months ago, and have just received a text message from the repair center saying the eta on the part is now for *next* month.
When I booked it in, it had another two months or so left on the extended warranty I bought with the machine. All these bad reviews of Toshiba warranty repairs are making me nervous.
I was initially told it was going to take two weeks to repair by the guy at Joyce Mayne since the depot is in another state.
A week and a half later I received my first text message from the repair center saying that there was a delay in part delivery and it would take another two weeks for the part to arrive.
I thought to myself 'that's fair, sometimes these things happen' and I didn't think too much of it until I called the Joyce Mayne store on the day it was supposed to be delivered to the store and was told that the "delay in parts" status was still in effect and it was going to take another two weeks...
So I call up last week and I'm promised it will definitely be in store in a weeks time on Friday and that they'll call me when it arrives.
Then I call up the store and they say it'll definitely be in store the next Friday...
So this brings us to today when I'm expecting to pick up my laptop in two days, I get another text message telling me there's a delay in part delivery and "current eta for parts" is next month.
Where can I make an official complaint? Is it worth making an official complaint? Is this the normal amount of time it takes to make a repair on a laptop?
The delinquent at the Joyce Mayne store says he's "just the messenger", so I asked him to email me the contact number of the repair depot and I never received it.

    Hi,
There is not much Toshiba can do if a part is delayed due to shipment from overseas, but maybe they can provide another solution. I would call their call center and tell them the situation. Looking on their website the phone number is 13 30 70.

  • Qosmio X500-13R - Wireless issues

Hello everyone, I have recently bought a Toshiba Qosmio X500-13R. Since the 1st day I bought it the computer had problems with the wireless card. At first I though it was my wireless router problem but then i tested it in various routers and it has the same problem everywhere.
I have done some testing and it appears that after a while the laptop looses the wireless network momentarily (for like 1 min) and then regains it.After running a ping -t command i found out that when it works normally the ping is something like:
    Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL 64
right before the problem occurs the ping response time starts to change from <1ms to 100ms then 200ms then 1000ms etc and finally the network drops.
I have updated my wireless lan drivers but nothing changed.
Please any help would be appreciated!

    Hello
Are you using the preinstalled OS from Toshiba? In your case I would try to disable the WLAN power saving option in Windows Power Management. You can choose Maximum Performance for WLAN card.
Furthermore you should try updating the BIOS. The newest version can be found on official Toshiba website.

  • Qosmio X500-126 Shuts down

    I have a TOSHIBA Qosmio X500-126 bought 01.07.2010 warranty expired 30.06.2013
On 25.05.2013 I experienced a problem wile playing a new generation game. My PC turned off. I thought i was over heating but i continued to shutdown each time i played Heavy PC games on High-Ultra Graphic settings.
On date 28.05.2013 i sent it to get serviced. They switched one of my PC-cooling fans and returned it to me.
The computer worked for about a week than the same problem started again.
On date 13.06.2013 i sent it back again. The employees switched a fan again (i don't know if it was the same fan or a different one) and returned it to me.
This time the Computer worked till 09.07.2013 when I set it back for a Stuck WIFI switch they fixed it and returned it to me.
The PC continued to work properly till date 07.08.2013 when the problem of shutting down started again. This time the employees only did diagnosis. And i know a diagnosis will not fix the problem currently i am using the computer to only what movies and browse the internet. Because no mater what PC game i try running the PC just shuts down, no matter the Graphic settings.
PS: I am quite dissented in the service.

My first post was deleted, but I will continue to publish the experience not only in this forum but also all over the internet! It is unacceptable to delete the opinion of your customers! Even my story is developing for a few days!
I bought two laptops Toshiba Qosmio X500-126 in 2010 (one for me and one for my boss). The problems began on the first year. One of the laptops (the one of my boss) was literally thrown out as rubbish a year after the purchase.
The problems with my laptop started with the registration of the warranty. After several calls to the store and a few hours I was able to register the warranty.
My first complaint was about overheating and shutdown (enter date 16.07.2012). The laptop was warming up so much that the fan had melted and separated from the bottom cover at one of the end s. I took the laptop from repair on 23.07.2012 and they made me pay for fixing it.
On 01.10.2012 I left the laptop for repair again due to overheating and shutdown problems . The temperature began literally to melt and bend the upper and lower lid ... The lower lid was deformed to such an extent that it is separated from the rear side and had trouble with the hinge of the display. Because of the hot air from the fan, the screen bottom began to fade (near to the fan). Moreover , the computer totally refused to work and to turn on again. At the repair office they replaced the charger, cleaned the laptop and sent me an offer for a new bottom and top cover . They told me the damages were mechanical and I caused them !
On 25.02.2013 my laptop refused to turn on again and had to bring it for repair again. They give it back to me with changed charger on 28.02.2013. This time I got blamed for the bad conditions at our office, although there was no other case of a broken only equipment for the last four years except the laptop.
On the 30.07.2013 I left the laptop again for repair . This time I chose another maintenance office that works with Toshiba. The plastic parts of the laptop were so bent and melted that this time no one could say that I've broken it . The laptop was heating like a stove... Through the warranty, the bottom cover was replaced , but not the top cover. Its lower part, which is close to the fan and to the display, was also visibly melted.. The repair was completed on the 14.08.2013.

  • My new Qosmio X500 has a power on problem

My laptop Qosmio X500 has a problem. When i want to power on nothing happens and I should remove the battery and replace it till my laptop begins to work.
BIOS of my laptop is the new one so, i don't need to update it.
The battery is full charged too.
Can someone tell me what should I do?
I bought it only for 1 week.
It seems i should send it back.
    Please someone gives me advice

I am having this problem for the past couple of days were my system locks up and freezes.
I have to removeed power cable and battery to restart, its a Qosmio X500-134 and it randomly just happens but round the same time each time 19.00 but some times at different times jsut depends how long i have been on the computer for.
Its a registry, driver or definetly hardware problem that is causing it i have narrowed it down to.
I have the latest drivers and bios so theres an issue somewere :(
I'm dissapointed due to the laptop not being very old only a few weeks.
