Qosmio X505-Q8102 USB Ports Question...

I been having trouble with my USB Ports and only one that seems to be working is the Sleep/Charge one on the left side. Others don't seem to work. I checked Device Manager and there seems to be no problems... Anything I can do? Thoughts appreciated
P.S. There are 4 USB Ports, 2 on each side (1 Sleep/Charge, 3 Normal)

  • USB port question.

I have an iMac 1.33 GHrtz PowerPC G4, and obviously have only 2 USB ports and one Firewire port on my laptop. I use an external hard drive, (USB), and I have recently got some computer DJ equipment which requires me to use 2 USB ports, however, I run all of my music from my external hard drive, which only allows me to have one spare USB port. I have tried using a USB splitter, (one of those little things that has like 4 USB ports that you plug into a USB port on your iMac), but to my disappointment, my iMac wouldn't recognise the multiple USB devices. I'm wondering if there is anyway I can adjust my settings to allow this, or if anyone knows if I can use some sort of USB to Firewire switcher on one of my devices, (unlikely I know).
    Cheers
    Sean

Unfortunately some devices won't work when attached to a USB hub.
If the hub you tried was not powered, I would suggest that you try a powered hub instead (one that plugs into the wall).
You should make any future posts in the iBook G4 discussion area.

  • Touchpad USB Port Question

Does the touchpad usb port support ANY other connections besides charging and connection to a PC? I realize the usb port is un-powered, but there are easy ways to get around that.
Can the SIM card port be used for anything else besides a SIM card?
Does anyone know if the CyanogenMod Andriod supports any usb connections
besides charging and pc connections (or is this a WebOS only forum?)?
    Thanks in advance.

    1. No.
    2. No.
    3. Yes, this is a webOS and PalmOS forums only.

  • Simple USB Port Question

When I use the USB port on my Apple keyboard, I'm finding file transfers are much slower compared to when I use the ports on my Mac Pro. Is this normal? If so, why?
    They're all USB 2.0, correct?
Is it because the keyboard USB port is on a hub?

I don't think all the keyboards supported USB 2.0, I use a bluetooth keyboard but my old wired Apple keyboard shows only USB 1.1 speeds. You can use the System Profiler (in the Utilities folder) to see if the Keyboard hub supports USB 2.0 speeds.

  • Recover Question (Qosmio X505-Q8102)

I am currently creating a system image to my external USB HD. How would I go through restore for that? I mean, I heard I would need to change boot order in BIOS so it would recognize USB HD. Would like to know for future reference in case something goes bad with my computer...
    Qosmio X870-BT3G23

See THIS tutorial. As you will see, you will NOT have to change the boot order in the BIOS.  The backup file knows where to go to complete a restore and will go to your external USB drive automatically.

  • Toshiba Qosmio X505 Q8102 freezes every few seconds in games.

Again i have to post in this forums, so im not satisfied and dissapointed..
The laptop is freezing every few seconds in most 3D games, i thought it's the OS  problem, so installed a fresh copy of Windows7 (original), downloaded newest drivers from toshiba support site, and installed every one of the without problem. But the problem is still here.. Don't know what to do, gave 1800$ for this pice of junk and ill i got is problems..
I'm not a newbie within computers, working with them for past 15 years (at the moment Network Administrator in Croatian Military).
Tried replacing the memory, hdd, and still nothing, same problem.. The warranty expired and doesn't  work in Europe.. Contacted US support and asked for recovery disks because this **bleep** recovery partition is damaged and can't boot from recovery.. tried with Toshiba media builder but same problem, doesn't work -_-... One thing is for sure.. im never gonna buy Toshiba again. Oh yeah, forggot tu mention, I've contacted Toshiba Croatia for recovery disks and support, and they said to me that thy don't give recovery disks and don't sell them (than why can i buy recovery dvd's from toshiba us?, and can't from Croatia)..
Anyway, if no one can tell me any solution it will be crashed with hammer and burn it  (because i have no nerves for it any more).. I use the laptop very often and i need it for my job..
Before i buyed this laptop i was in doubt, buy toshiba or alienware? Hmm, made a huge mistake..
Thank you in advance and hope someone can tell me anny solution..
    Luka

Sorry for late reply, i was away and without internet ...
Yeah, i know the procedure with the zerro key, and with toshiba media creator to make backup dvd-s etc, but non of that work because my recovery partition is kinda damaged, don't know why is that so. Didn't mess with the hdd or anything else. But that's not the problem, installed a fresh copy of windows, updated it and installed drivers and everything i need, than made a acronis secure zone on my hdd and made recovery by my self and works great.
But bigger problem is why the hell is he freezing every now and than in games, just stops for half of a second and than continues normaly for few seconds, another thing, while its frozen the sound freezes aswell, tried another sound driver, updated everything and still got same problem..

  • Using the USB port for an external HD dumb question

OK. Forgive a possibly really dumb question here...
My external HD has a USB 2.0 interface and I hooked it up to the USB port using a cable that came with an old USB 1 hub I'm not using right now.
My dumb question is this: is there such a thing as a USB 2.0 cable? Or are the USB cables all the same?
Also, how long should it be taking to transfer 12.1 GB of data (about 9,000 photos) from my external HD mounted on the AirMac base station to my MBP? There are still 48 minutes left and it seems an awfully long time for 12.1 GB of data. That's why I was wondering if the cable could be an issue...
    Thanks,
    doug

I am suspecting now that my HD might really have been a USB 1.0 drive...

  • Syncing iPad & iPod...  device USB port cable connector question

I have an iPad & iPod 4th gen.... both syncing cables look identical..no identity markings on either. I'm not sure now which came with which device.
QUESTION: Are the syncing/charging ( know I can't charge iPad off USB port) cables given with purchase interchangable for these 2 devices?
    Thanks!

Yes, the cables work the same. It is an Apple proprietary 30 pin connector.
The chargers are different. The iPhone/iPod charger is 5 watt. The iPad charger is 10 watt. But you can use the iPad charger with iPhones/iPods because it is self limiting.

  • Qosmio G does not recognize mouse using two left USB ports

I am right handed so I naturally put my Saitec optical mouse in the right hand port.
The other day I plugged it into the two left hand ports and the machine did not recognise the mouse.
It went through the process of installing drivers (even though this had been done some weeks ago when i plugged it into the right hand port)
Anyway the mouse will not operate at all when plugged into the left side ports.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be happening?
    Regard Sean.

    Hi
Did you test the both left USB ports with other USB devices. i.e USB flash stick???
Maybe you should do this to figure out if it could be a faulty USP port.
    But I would recommend testing this;
First of all disconnect all USB devices
Then go into the device manager and remove all USB host controller and USB hubs from the device list.
Close all windows and reboot the notebook.
Finally the OS should recognize the new devices (USB ports) again.
Connect a USB device to one of the left ports and check if it would work.
    Bye
PS: What Qosmio do you have?

  • I just bought a new portable battery. It uses 2 USB ports to charge devices, a 1 amp port and a 2 amp port. My question is which port do I plug my iPhone 5s into and which do I use for my iPad 2?

It's a 10,000 mAh external battery. I got this for traveling and because I go to disneyland a lot. My phone wont last all day there and unlike some people, I would never plug my phone into their outlets (I watched a girls phone spark and practically melt once), their voltage is way too high. I have other batteries, but when I saw that this one can charge the 5s fully 3-5 times, I new it was a must. Online, there were wonderful reviews about it and that it charges the 5s and the iPad 2 wonderfully. However when I opened the package and read the directions it listed that there were 2 USB ports, a 1 amp and a 2 amp and to match your device to the port. Now it's been a while since I've studied about volts, amps, etc. so the first thing I do is google it. I know that the iPhone 5s uses 1 amp and the iPad 2 uses 2 amps, and from what I read, you can use the iPad charger to charge the iPhone (which I didn't know there were conflicts about this, I've always used my iPad charger for my phone). There are a lot of articles with people going back and forth about charging techniques, but I want to make sure I'm not going to damage any of my devices if I plug it into the wrong port.
Any responses will be appreciated as this isn't an area where I am very knowledgeable! Thank you!!!

The iPhone and iPad draw whatever charging current they require. The iPad draws more.

  • Qosmio F60 - USB ports & touch keys are not working

    Hi,
After a clean install (win 7 home prem), i found most of the drivers, but still have following problems.
    1) when i hook up my external hdd or any device to any usb port, although it powers and tries to read, but does not show in my computer and does not work
    2) the touch keys (eco, wireless, media buttons) dont work. After installing value added pack, it opens up a button assignment tool and asks me for input for button assignment
    3) The reason for clean install was new 250gig SDD to replace my 750gb toshiba hdd. this is the 3rd time hdd has corrupted in 2 years (not happy), however, the ssd halts the laptop as well, and i have to restart
    Your help is much appreciated.
    [email protected]

Do you have the latest firmware on the SSD?
Have you installed all the drivers and software listed on the Toshiba website? Make sure you install the Intel Chipset utility first, then TVAP second.
Also make sure you have Win7 Service Pack 1 before installing drivers, and update the BIOS to the latest revision.
If you still can't get it working, you can order the Recovery Discs from Toshiba and install the factory image on the SSD so everything works properly.

  • [Solved] Random freezes on a Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q888

    Hi guys,
My laptop has been freezing randomly, about once per day, during the last 2 or 3 weeks. The system freezes completely, i.e. the display freezes, I cannot move the mouse, I cannot use the keyboard, the CAPS LOCK light starts blinking, and if there is any music playing, it enters an infinite loop of 2-3 seconds. I cannot use any keyboard combination such as Ctrl+Alt+F1 to switch into a terminal. Then I have no choice but to press and hold the power button.
The freezes seem to happen in a completely random fashion, independently from what programs/applications I am running, for how long the computer has been on, how much memory I am using, CPU temperature, etc. Also, I cannot find any clue in the log files. Everything seems to be OK just before the freeze (except for some random, annoying, but apparently unrelated messages such as "[system] Failed to activate service 'org.freedesktop.Avahi': timed out"). The only clue is that the CAPS LOCK key is blinking during the freeze, which means... kernel panic?
I am running 64-bit Arch Linux on a Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q888. My current kernel is 3.4.2-2, but this has been happening since at least 3.3.7-1. I know another person with exactly the same laptop model as me, who is having the same issues. I am lost here. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

  • My USB port (closest to the screen) is not working? And what is an IR Receiver in my USB port?

    Hi everyone,
I recently found out that my USB port, closest to my screen, is not working. Before I called Apple Care for help, I performed a PRAM and a SMC RESET, which unfortunately did not work. I called Apple Care and they help me troubleshoot simple resets such as, shutdowns and restarts. The representative I spoke with conluded that the physical hardware has an issue and must be brought to the Apple Store for a diagnosis. I called the Apple Store to at least budget the fee for getting a USB port fixed and it's about $300.00. I never dropped my macbook or had any sort tactile encounterment with hard surfaces by dropping or hitting. I don't understand how my macbook pro would be physically damaged. I then thought maybe my software was out of date (right now I am running 10.9 Mavericks) or I forgot to do the minor software updates, but I was at a lost again because my macbook is up-to-date. I searched for further help and found a way to monitor what's plugged into my usb ports. (I read in the apple forums that a girl had nothing in her usb ports, but upon looking at the System Information> Hardware> USB, that the macbook recognizes that there are drives in the ports) I looked at my ports; one is being used by wirless mouse (the port that works) and the other (the port that doesnt work) is being used by an "IR RECEIVER". Now, is the IR Receiver actually using that port and that's why my macbook cannot recognize other devices inserted into that port? Or is the IR RECEIVER suppose to be in that port and that the hardware for that port is simply damaged (which would mean I need $300.00 to get that fixed)? I know this is a lot, but someone help me?

I can help with the "IR Receiver" part of your question. That's the piece of hardware inside older MacBook Pros (MBPs) that lets them work with the Apple Remote. "IR" is the standard abbreviation for "infrared," the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum used by remotes for many common devices (stereos, cable boxes, Apple TVs, etc.). The remote sends a coded stream of IR pulses; a corresponding receiver in the target device "sees" the infrared light and decodes it. The MBP's internal IR Receiver sends the received signals to the processor via USB through an internal hub.
The most recent MacBook Pros have dropped the IR receiver and no longer work with the Apple Remote.

  • Non grounded HP Laptop have electrical feeling on usb ports

I am living here in the Philippines now and have brought my Hp laptop dv9000.  Whenever I turn on the laptop with the AC I get this electrical feeling in the usb ports.  When I run with the battery I feel no electricity.  Since the AC can take a 100-240V input, the outlets here in the Philippines are 240V, it shouldnt have any problems.  But the charger has a 3rd prong that is used as a ground, but the wall outlet only has 2.
To better understand by setup: 1. the electrical outlet has 2 prongs that lets out 240V, 2. I have and AVR (automatic voltage regulator) so I can lower the voltage for my, 3. UPS (uninterrupted power supply) that only takes in 110V.  I plug in my AC charger to the UPS to power my computer.
So my question is what can I do now to stop the the electricity coming out of the usb ports? Do I need to install a grounded socket?

Have you tried restarting the laptop? Many times we get simply put the machine to sleep or hibernate- a full shutdown/restart can help with usb problems.
You might also try disabling "USB Selective suspend" in your Power Options plan.

  • USB ports does not work

Hi I have problems with not working USB ports. It used to work. I downloaded actual drivers at msi.com for my gaming notebook GX 60 Destroyer and now my USB ports does not work. What should I do?

    What driver have you updated?
Try to do an EC firmware reset by removing the battery and the AC adapter then put the battery back with AC adapter attached.
Same questions like Pegasus asked, does all ports not working? which one exactly? What OS are you using?
Have you done any changes to the system? (for example: self-install OS or changing OS)
