Qosmio X770-13G - Slow WLan internet connection

Dear all,
I just bought a Qosmio X770-13G with Windows 7.
WIFI data transfer is very slow, even when using a high speed AP (tried it on more than one location) and after disabling the anti-virus program.
Using the Config Free program shows 6Mbps second download speed but even downloading a 4 Mb PDF file takes several minutes.
Updating the BIOS software and the WLAN driver did not help.
Does anybody have the same experience?
Thanks in advance,
John

Yes, it does. And a new development yesterday evening shed new light on this problem: In addition to using a couple of known AP's I tried connecting to new AP's. Result: a data transfer speed as expected. So it seems I dont have to look into faulty hardware but into connection problems with certain AP's. I guess my original problem (suspicion of faulty hardware) is no longer an issue. Thanks for the reply.

can the wireless card in my mac wear out and slow down internet connection??

Yes the WiFi card can wear out but not what you would really call wearing out like a pair of pants do. It can start to fail causing the connection between your computer and your Wifi router to slow down, IE transmit and receive less data in a given time period. And then it will fail completely.
But as to your internet connection being affected by a failing WiFi card no that can't happen.
If you turn the WiFi off and connect the computer to your router with an Ethernet cable does your internet browsing and downloading speed increase? If it does then there may be something wrong with the WiFi card in your computer or the WiFi section of your router. Hard to say which.
If after connecting the computer to your router with an Ethernet cable and your speeds do not increase then it is a problem with the router or on your ISPs end.

  • Qosmio X770-10J weak WLAN signal

    Hey there!
I just got a brand new Qosmio X770-10J 3 days ago and got some strange wlan issues.
The notebook is placed 3 meters away from my AVM WLAN device and it got only 2 WLAN bars, long loading times and a lot of reconnects. Another (older) notebook at the same location hast full five bars and is ridicolously fast in comparision.
    Anyone got an idea?
I got the same problem with an UBUNTU live cd, so it can't be a driver issue.
    Thanks for help!

if it is a brand new laptop it is possible your energy plan is not configured properly
so go to power savings settings and edit one of them (preferably the one called high performance) and edit everything so it is set to performance and not to power saving, including the wifi adapter, which can be controlled on 10 different "levels" of energy comsumption, as far as i can remember.
its good to do this anyways because sometimes the settings for your graphics card or usb power seetings are also in power saver mode and your cpu is not running on full potential.
if this doesnt help... well, i would unscrew the laptop bottom cover try removing the wifi adapter and placing it back in the slot. also i would check the 2 cables that are connected to it and are basically 2 ends of your antenna that is coiled in the plastic frame around your monitor (at least in most laptops)
and if this doesnt work, i think it will be safe to say the adapter is faulty. but it really does sound like power savings settings thing so stay positive

  • N82 black - slow wireless internet connection

    Hi
New to the group and just got N82 through Orange.
Really like the phone but disappointed with the wireless internet connecion - one of the features I was attracted to.
I have a Netgear wireless router connected to a cable modem, with a 2Mb cable internet connection. My laptop runs fine on this connecion.
My phone identifies and connects to the WLAN fine through the wizard (phones reports a 100% signal strength from the wireless router) however I get a few problems when trying to connect to the internet:
    1) Very slow download of pages apart from the homepage (which I have changed to bbc.co.uk). Most of the time pages hang half way through.
    2) Frequent "Internet timeouts".
As the router signal strength is very strong (I am trying this a few feet away from the router) and my laptop connects and downloads just fine I can only think that there is something with the phone that isn't quite right or a setting which needs adjusting.
My router has WPA2 security set up and I think my phone has the latest firmware (v. 20.0.062).
Can anyone help improve my internet experience with this phone?

  • Airport Extreme slowing down internet connection to a crawl

    Hi,
    Can anyone explain this one?
Just this afternoon my internet connection slowed to a crawl. Pages would stall loading and I couldn't even collect emails. There was a connection there. A Google search might take a minute or so but anything else would barely flinch.
So I did a few restarts and complete power downs of all my peripherals, computers and network devices but no joy. I called my broadband provider who did a remote test of my cable modem and confirmed it was responding well.
So I removed the Airport Extreme from the network and connected directly to the modem. All was fine, in fact that is how I am working now. But when connecting the Airport Extreme back in I have this extremely slow connection. I have looked at both the Network preferences and Airport Setup Utility. Both claim the connection is good.
I also have an old G4 in another room. It was switched off during all the goings on this afternoon but I powered it up to see if the same problem persisted. Sure enough it does, as it is also connected via the AE. However, the local connection between computers is just fine.
So how do I resolve this? Why would the AE cause such an internet slowdown?
    Thanks,
    Colin

I've had similar symptoms on my network. Here are network details:
    Comcast is the ISP
I have an Extreme and an Express set up as a single wireless network.
Extreme is plugged in to the cable modem. Express is an extension of the Extreme.
Devices that are regularly "on network": Mac Mini (G4), MacBook, Mac Pro, 2 TiVO Series 2.
    All Macs are running 10.4.10.
Symptom: Over the course of 3-6 weeks, wireless access slows to a crawl for the Intel-based MacBook and MacPro, but not the PowerPC Mini. All web sites, email traffic, etc., for the Intel Macs becomes painful: CNN's home page loads in minutes, not seconds, for example. Unplugging and replugging the Express doesn't do anything. Powering off and on the Extreme resolves the issue. For now. There are no pending firmware updates for the Express or Extreme that I'm aware of.

  • Slow Wifi Internet Connection on Windows 7

I recently got a brand new iMac 27 inch (late 2013) I need to have Windows installed because of some compatibility problems with some programs I use for my work. I follow all the instruction on how to install Windows using bootcamp and I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate Edition. Everything is working fine but my Internet connection when I am using the Windows partition is ridiculously slow, on the contrary when I am using the MacOSx the Internet connection is fine. Can anyone help me to solve it?

Is there anyone that can help me?

  • Slow, Sluggish internet connection on Macbook Pro

Just recently switched out my wireless router from a Dlink DI-524 to a Airport express and now my internet connection is ridiculously slow.
I go to a page and it sits for 5-20 seconds before the page begins to appear.
I have a macbook in the house as well and it does not share the same issue. Surfing is extremely fast on the macbook but for some reason on the macbook pro, it is sluggish lagging and simply annoying. Any thoughts....

Hello stewartc. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Does you MacBook Pro have this problem with other wireless networks or just yours? If all, then let's take a look at the AirPort settings on your MBP...
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
o Verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "New" to create one.
o Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
o Verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    AirPort tab
    o By default, join: Automatic
    TCP/IP tab
    o Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
o Configure IPv6: Automatically (Note: You may also want to try the "Off" setting as some Posters in this Discussions thread noted problems with this being enabled.)
    Proxies tab
    o Configure Proxies: Manually
o Select a proxy server to configure: <All proxies should be unchecked unless you specifically require a proxy for Internet access.>
    o Exclude simple hostnames (unchecked)
o Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains: <leave blank>
o Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) (checked)
Also, take a look to see if you have DNS server IP addresses listed in your AirPort configuration.

  • Slow wireless internet connection using airport extreme

My wireless internet connection works but is very slow (<80kbs). The problem seems to be with the airport extreme (brand new, purchased in May 07) because my connection is very fast (>6mbs) when i connect by wire to the airport extreme base station. Signal strength is strong, so i can't figure out the problem. Any ideas?
    imac Mac OS X (10.4)

BK37, I hope you've solved your problem by now. But if not, and for the benefit of others reading this post, let me share what I (finally) discovered when I had virtually the same problem, i.e. 8mbps wired speed, <50kbps wireless speed.
I tried literally <span style="font-style:italic;">every suggestion I could find in the Airport discussions. First, I can assure you that changing the channel can give you incremental speed improvements in some instances, but for radical drops like yours, it's not the answer. Nor is turning off ipv6, or changing to WEP, or turning off Remote Access, or moving the AEBS, or or or or or....
With such a radical drop in speed, it's most likely you have a hardware-related blockage somewhere. In my case it was my wiring configuration. My setup was France Telecom Livebox (ADSL modem / ethernet & 802.11g router) --> Ethernet cable --> Linksys RTP 3100 IP phone adapter / router --> Ethernet cable --> AEBS --> 3 Airport Express set up to extend network and run AirTunes. After eliminating every other possible problem, I narrowed it down to the Linksys router, which for reasons I have yet to figure out was trapping the speed to the AEBS. I ethernet cabled both the Linksys router and the AEBS directly to the Livebox and presto! Back to blazing speed.
Hopefully this info will be helpful to you or some poor soul in the same situation, as I would have loved to have had it myself before I pulled every hair out of my head!

  • Problem with non WLAN internet connection

I've swapped my simm out from my N95 and installed the provider internet access settings via SMS. The N95 worked perfectly to access internet via 3G, but the N8 just can't make a connection. It looks like the settings are correct. However, whenever an application wants to use the internet (when I'm outside my WLAN) the first access point it checks is something it calls '02 MMS'. Sometimes it asks me to choose an access point and the same thing, it lists first this '02 MMS' and then the proper access points 'giffgaff WAP' being the correct point.
I can't find anywhere in the settings how to delete this 02 MMS setting. Not that I'm convinced, but it would be a start.
Does this make sense to anyone? Where do I start?
I'm very frustrated as it should be a simple matter. Swapping the simm back to the N95 works perfectly!

    Ever figure this out?

  • N91 WLAN Internet connection

This is what I have tried:
    1.Home WLAN SETUP
a.Siemens ADSL wireless router (not used as ADSL but only as a router)
b.In one soccet I have plugged Local LAN which is connected to a local server from which 10 of us can use internet
c.My laptop uses wifi connection from router and can access internet without any problem
d.Security is defined as: wpa-psk, wpa2-psk key – laptop & router the same – works excellent
    2.N91 setup:
a.I have tried most of advices found by googling – and it obviously doesn’t work
b.Local WLAN can be seen on N91, but after putting pre shared key it said that it is wrong key, since I’m only using numbers, not letters in both (router and laptop) and 100% sure that I have entered at least 100 times correct key in N91 I don’t know what a problem could be.
c.I have tried through setup access point and still doesn’t work
So any help would be very very much appreciated
    Thx

I have a similar issue, the connection quality is terrible after wake up from standby. Tried to install the drivers direct from realtek but could not find the right ones.

  • Why my brand-new macbook air getting so slow on internet connection?

My mba getting so slow all the sudden, it take me at least 20 sec to get on Google page. anybody can tell me what is wrong?

Have to say comparing this thread to many others that it isn't just the internet and wireless connection.  I'm just about ready to throw my new Macbook in the garbage as this has been an ongoing issue since I bought it.  And it's not the connectioon as anyone else coming in to our home is able to connect easily, Google TV runs just fine, the only device with issues is the MacBook.  The hours I waste waiting for pages to load or trying to reconnect are numerous.  Very dissappointed.
While this thread had a happy outcome, most of the others are like my situation where the problem doesn't get resolved.  If the standard PCs and windows can work fine why doesn't a Mac.  I feel duped and dumped twice as much money into a device that doesn't work as good as the less expensives laptops with Windows.
    Frustrated

  • Slow wireless internet connection after 10.6.4 update

After the initial excitement switching from windows to mac, I'm now having a problem I can't figure out. This problem is mentioned many times in several forums, but I'am unable to find the proper solution.
After unpacking my new MacBook air last week everything worked simple, smooth an correct. Then an automatic update to OS X 10.6.4 was downloaded and installed. I'm having troubles with my wireless internet.
Airport seems to be functioning ok but most sites take ages to load. There's also problems with loading pictures, movies, dynamic contents, etc. Some sites function partially on Firefox, Safari seems to be hanging al the time.
Resetting router, starting MBA in safe mode didn't have any effect. On the ethernet connection the mac and internet is working as a dream. Other windows device also function normally. How do I get my wireless internet working properly??
    Help!

I had exactly the same problem after updating my mac to 10.6.4. I did the usual and trawled the net but could not find a decent fix. It became very very frustrating so in the end I rang apple and luckily I spoke to a technician who had exactly the same problem with his machine. He explained it doesn't effect every mac for reasons I wont go into here but in order to fix this problem 100% guaranteed, you need to do a reformat and a reinstall. This should be done periodically anyway to keep your machine running in tip top condition. I wasn't happy to have to do it but in the end I'm glad I did.
For those who have not done this before see instructions below.
    1. Back up your disk with time machine to an external HD
    2. Boot from installation disk (holding down C)
    3. After choosing english language select utilities from menu bar and select disk utilities.
    4. Select your mac hard drive, erase, and in security options select "zero out disk" and erase.
    5. Reinstall operating system with installation disk, when done update to 10.6.4 assuming that was the system you had installed when you backed up.
    6. Reboot again holding C with installation disk, select utilities then restore option, choose your time machine backup and away you go. FIXED!
It takes a while but you will probably spend just as much time hunting the net for fixes that just wont work and anyway you end up with a clean install that will probably fix other little bugs you were unaware of.

  • Very slow ADSL Internet connection on my Mac mini

    Hello,
At home I have a little network with 4 Macs; one iMac G4, one iMac G5, one PowerBook G4 and one Mac mini (Intel dual core 1 GB).
The "old" PPC based Macs is running at 2500 kbit/s on Internet but my new Mac mini is "running" on 100-200 kbit/s.
    - That is a 1/20 speed compared with the other older Macs.
My network is wire-based. That is a NOKIA ADSL modem (M5112), and a Dray Tek Vigor 2000 isdn Router with 6 ports.
One other thing. The download-speed from Internet is very varying; it downloads a second or two, then it stops and wait a second or two before it continue.
I have tested the speed on different speed-testers and over several days.
Please gi me some advice if you have any.
    Best regards,

I need to post a response to my previous post. My connection problem has been solved and it was the standard answers I usually give to newbies:
I was on the phone with my ISP to see if I could manually input the DNS Servers settings as another user mentioned this. The wait time was incredibly long... of course... so while I waited, I reset (unplugged) the DSL modem then the Router. I've done this recently, but this solved the problem instantly this time. You may want to try this even if you've done it before. I can't believe it worked. We'll see if it "sticks" this time.
