Qosmio X870-149 - Black screen after Update to win 8.1

After an update to win 8.1 I got a black screen after login , the only thing I could do was to press zero during startup and make a recovery installation .
It took 40 houres , I do not know why it took so long , but when it was over, the HDD was completely empty , so I installed win 7 instead , since I had not made ??a recovery CD . The problem now is that I still get black screen in between , and thinking that it might be a heat problem , I still have warranty , but I do not know if it applies when I installed win 7 on the machine.
I still have a warranty on my toshiba Qosmio

Hi
Well, the warranty covers the hardware related problems. It does not cover any issues related to the software.
Now the open question is: why the black screen appears?
Is it hardware or software issue?
What happens if you access the BIOS?
Can you see anything on the screen?
Is something visible on the external monitor?

  • M5400 - Black screen after updating BIOS

As the title says, I've got this unwanted black screen after updating BIOS with update utility from here http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds037429
    What I've tried :
    - power / battery out, pressing power button several times for short / long and longer time
    - BIOS battery out for about half an hour
    - wincrisis with USB bootable stick and BIOS extracted from BIOS update utility from support.lenovo
    - different combinations of keys such as : FN + B / F / R +/- win key
What should I do next except finding a hammer ?

    Hey,
I am having the same problem, I was updating my bios.. followed all directions which is necessary to update them.
And then when it was almost ready it said "Bios update is not responding" so I waited... and waited because I did not want to abort it but then Vista aborted it for me.
Well at first it did not seem to be a problem but then I noticed that I could not click anything (was still in windows @ that time did not reboot yet) then I wanted to reboot but nothing worked.. Pressing off button for a time to shut down did not work.. So eventually power was out. And it shut down.
So I hooked it up again but nothing happened. Pressing the "on" button made it start.. The DVD-drive loaded for a second but... that is it just a black screen :S
Going to bring it back to the shop tomorrow.

I updated normally and it works perfect but after a day, on Windows7 reboot, after Windows 7 logo, i have a black screen and cpu fan works at full speed. So i used Toshiba Recovery Center and i recovered my pc to fabricate settings. When it installs drivers it crashed on Graphics driver again. After that, i installed Windows 7, but im using my computer on 640x480 resolution with 8-color.. And i can use Security mode with network but if i install GT-330M driver and reboot computer, it crashes on after windows 7 reboot.
I have tried to change options in the bios but it's always the same problem.
*My Graphics card :* Nvidia GT330M
*Bios Version :* 2.50 / EC2.40 (last update on Toshiba website)
    *Nvidia Driver :* 260.64
I downloaded 197.16, 197.71, 258.80 drivers from Nvidia and laptopvideo2go, but when i try to install these versions, it says not compotible with my system settings.
Im totally crushed now and i dont wanna give my laptop to Toshiba Technical Service which is in Turkey. For Easy solution they spent 30 days..

I had same problems after installation the OS from recovery disks. It wont open after installed graphic card driver.
I forced windows to install alternative drivers but again it wont work.

  • MSI GE60 0NC black screen after updating to windows 8.1

Hey, guys! I updated my laptop last night to windows 8.1 and everything went smoothly until the final boot wherein, after signing in to my account, there's only a black screen and mouse cursor. I tried finding solutions online like using sfc but it only fixes it for several minutes. Only the task manager works. Please help me.

  • Black screen after updating to ios 8 iphone 4s

    iPhone 4S Cap 56,5 GB IOS 8.0.2 Model MD261HN/A Modem Firmware 5.4.00
Guys, since upgrade to IOS 8.0.0 I am getting black screens or crash in most apps (Facebook, Whatsapp, etc).
That has never happened before and I own this phone for about 3 years.
    Any suggestion?
    Thank you!
    Fabio

    Found a fix!
The problem is that after the update, for some reason, the screen brightness is set to lowest, so you can't see anything although the screen still works.
If you shine a bright light on the screen, like from the flash of another phone, you can see the information on the screen, not well, but visible, finish the update process, and when you're done, go to settings, and set your screen brightness up again.
It's as simple and stupid as that.

Hello everyone, how are you doing?
My Nokia N8 stop working at all, as it just gives me a little bit vibration when I push power bottom and nothing occurred on the screen its black screen. That’s happen after I made update for the software using Nokia software update, but in the middle of the operation I got an error message “update can’t completed” …
So please advise me with your experience.

Was it an OTA or Ovi Suite update? Try rebooting the phone by pressing and holding the power button for at least 8 seconds until the phone buzzez 3 times in quick succession. Then try restarting your phone again.
Another thing you could try if your initial update attempt was through OTA is to try connecting and updating your phone using Ovi Suite.
If that does not work then you may need to hard reset your phone but there are various issues with that at the moment, such as losing your data uinless you have a backup and other options such as the lost of some functionality which at the moment can only be restored by reinstalling Qt or by a Nokia Care Point.

  • Black screen after updating

Hello! I've upgraded to W10 using the Updater, and after every boot I see a black screen instead of the lockscreen. A few times it resolves itself after a few minutes, other times I need to put the laptop to sleep mode, then turn it back on. My laptop is a B50-30.

I think before it opens it'll restart several times after it finishes loading

  • Hp pro tablet 610 G1 black screen after updating bios

After upgrading to windows 10, I updated bios recommended by hp official page for hp pro tablet 610 G1, but my tablet now turn into black screen and I could not do anything. Please help!!!
Any combination keys for this tablet to enter into bios recovery?

Ok, first of all update bios to the latest version which is 1.5 already.
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure that all win 8 options are disabled. (Fast Boot etc) Also make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
         F.) Boot to the USB
G.) Now follow the directions and let the tool flash
H.) After flashing reinstall ME drivers in Windows: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/intel_me10_mb.zip
thanks, i'll try this and post back

  • Black screen after update

Earlier today, my 2010 MacBook Pro asked me to reboot after an update, and I selected ask me in an hour. 20 minutes later I had finished with the computer so just closed the screen. I have returned to it this evening to find that it will not boot properly. I'm not sure what the update was for.
On starting, it initially opens with the grey screen with the Apple logo in the centre as normal. After the normal amount of time, it is replaced with a black screen with the cursor in here top left corner. I'm able to move the cursor but absolutely nothing else happens and the screen remains black.
I don't know what to do to fix it! I can hear noises coming from the laptop, which I'm assuming are the hard drive.
Just to add, I had haven't modified it in any way. Apart from Office and Adobe, most of the programs on there are are supplied by Apple.
HAs has anyone got any suggestions please?

You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It may have a logic-board defect covered by this recall.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers do not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue that Apple calls "VST" (for "Video Switching Test.") Ask for it. A "Failed" result means that the fault is present. However, according to reports, some units may pass the test, and yet still be deemed eligible for repair under the program. Your experience may vary.
Note that the recall only applies within three years of purchase. After that, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you may be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a "depot repair," which involves shipping the unit to a central repair facility and takes about two weeks. For that flat fee, anything found wrong with it should be fixed, not just the logic board.
The model was discontinued on February 24, 2011, so the recall has nominally ended. Some units may have been sold after that date by Apple as refurbished, or by resellers as new, and they should still be covered.
Some owners report that their unit was repaired under the program after the deadline had passed. Others report that the repair was covered by the extended warranty from a credit-card issuer. Again, your experience may vary.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired under the program, and you don't want to pay for a new logic board, you may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching. To use the discrete graphics processor, you'll need a third-party utility to switch to it manually.
If you're dissatisfied with Apple's response, please keep in mind that no one here represents the company or can help with customer-service issues.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • "BLACK" screen after update to 10.5.8

I did the update this afternoon and had a similar issue. Immediately after the reboot from installing the update, the computer came up with a a bunch of operating system information with the last statement saying: "Panic: rebooting....". The screen then froze.
I did a reboot manually and the screen came up the same two more times. The third time it came up with a balck screen and sounded like it was booting but never showed any signs of life on the screen.
I did a manual shutdown one more time. This time I started the computer as if a firmware update was required and held the power button down for 10 seconds or so. The computer started with the steady tone associated with firmware upgrades and then rebooted on its own. After this self-reboot, the computer seems to be working fine.

This does appear to be a known issue, though the relationship to 10.5.8 is unclear.
See this regarding NVIDIA chip issue: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
This is a covered repair for up to three years.
There are others having the same issue as well. See here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2110580&tstart=0

  • Re: Satellite L40 - Black screen after updating BIOS

    Hi everyone,
I have exactly the same problem as reported here:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-euro...threadID=35156
My portable is a Satellite L40-150 (Model PSL48E) It came with Vista and BIOS version 1.60
I updated the BIOS to version 5.50, because I wanted to install Windows XP. The BIOS update process went fine and the computer automatically restarted. Upon restarting, I entered the BIOS (pressing F2 key). I pressed F9 to load default settings and exited the BIOS, saving the changes.
The laptop restarted and the screen is now completely blank. Nothing appears in it.
I tried removing and then reinserting the RAM modules, but it didn't help.
So, I guess the only option is to return the laptop to a service center?
Why is Toshiba doing this? Are they doing this on purpose or what?
    Regards.

I meant why is Toshiba releasing a BIOS upgrade that can render your laptop useless? (I've tried all the recovery methods they mention on their web, including turning on the laptop while pressing F12, but none of them work)
I've routinely upgraded the BIOS on all the computers I've owned through the years, and I've always reset the BIOS to its default settings right after upgrading. It's a procedure recommended by all manufacturers.
They all recommend to restore BIOS defaults after an upgrade because sometimes there can be some "leftover" configuration remaining from the previous BIOS version.
I upgraded the BIOS prior to installing Windows XP because it's the logical thing to do. Toshiba offers two different BIOS versions for my laptop, and the clearly state that one of them is compatible ONLY with Windows Vista, and the other one is compatible ONLY with Windows XP.
Could you tell me why should I install Windows XP on a laptop that has a BIOS designed for Vista? Common sense dictates that you should first upgrade the BIOS, and then install Windows XP.
I've contacted Toshiba's technical support and they will replace the laptop free of charge, because it's still under warranty.
I admit I'm satisfied with their customer care services, but I'm surely disappointed by their Quality Control. It has failed miserably in this BIOS release.
    Regards.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
An "update" and a "reload" are completely different functions...you said you tried to "reload", but then you cited only "update" sources, nothing for reloads. So I can only deduce that you have not yet actually tried to Reload. So, refer:
