Qosmio X870 GFX- Overheating issue

Hi!
My Notebook recently started to get bluescreens of death (nvlddmkm.sys errors) so i tried to fix them newer/other drivers, still just a small to no success.
So that has to be a overheating issue.
I tried to disassemble the chassis to clean the gfx fan+grill but I am afraid of damaging it.
I was only able to open the small side (RAM, SSD/HDD, OSD).
Is there any tutorial for the rest of the chassis?
PS: I could use a can of compressed air, but I think it will just blow the dust into the Laptop and not solving the problem right away.
Thanks in advance!

Hi
> Is there any tutorial for the rest of the chassis?
X870 does not seem to be an old notebook.
I assume warranty is still valid right?
In such case I would not recommend to disassemble the notebook.
This would cancel your warranty and there is a high risk of part damage.
In case this overheating issue isnt related to dust, I would recommend asking an technician for an check

I use the compressed air spray to clean my fans from time to time and this works perfectly.

  • After overheating my Qosmio X870 won't turn on

    Hi guys
    I need some help. I was playing a game on my Toshiba Qosmio X870 when it overheated, it had good ventilation and now it won't turn on, there's no battery light so I'm not sure if the AC power has blown, the battery has blown or something the the laptop has fried.
    Can some one help please?
    Thank you

    Hi
    In my opinion its hardware related problem.
    Such hardware malfunction can be solved by Toshiba authorized service technician only.
    I would recommend you to get in contact with Toshiba ASP available in your country in order to check the notebook and to replace the faulty part.

  • Qosmio x870 WLan driver update needed due to WLan issues

    Hi,
    I have this notebook since 3-4 months now and one problem is annoying. My wlan works sometimes good and on another days totally weird.
    The indicator shows 3 of 4 bars as example, but the i got no connection. When i start chrome or firefox nothing is loading. After a restart its working normally. My router works with another old toshiba notebook and my pc.
    I checked with avast and anti malwarebytes my notebook and it should be clean.
    I saw that toshiba updated all driver, but there are too many of them. But I dont know which ones i have to install.
    Are those display driver of toshiba the same like nvidias packages or is something missing?
    I want to update it too, cuz some games get better performance. Should i use nvidias driver or the ones of toshiba provided. On another threads i saw i have to update first intel and nvida driver. Is that right?
    I tried some months ago to install such driver on my pc, but lenovo has own driver too and it didnt worked. I dont want to "destroy" my notebook^^
    I hope someone can help. Sorry for asking again, i didnt found right forum :)

    > I saw that Toshiba updated all driver, but there are too many of them. But I dont know which ones i have to install.
    You have to take the one which is released for the Wlan card.
    So what WLan card do you have? You can check this in device manager in the Network Adapters area.
    Furthermore its really interesting to know what Qosmio X870-xxx do you have exactly?
    Regarding the display driver question:
    This should be discussed in another thread which you have already started.

  • Qosmio X870 shutting down without reason - low perfs

    Hello everyone,
    I have recently bought a Qosmio X870 116 and I am extremely disappointed. It is supposed to be a gaming computer but I can barely run a single game without the PC crashes. I tried to run recent games such as Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2. During the downloading of the GW2 launcher, the PC crashed after a while, shutting down without any reason.
    I eventually managed to install the game on my laptop anyway but I still encounter some issues since as I play, after not more than two minutes, the game slows down, the frame per second rate drops dramatically to 2 fps and the laptop crashes again.
    I think there is a problem with the graphic card or the fan because eveytime I try to launch a game, the fan starts to run very fast and noisely.
    I thought it also may be a problem with the Nvidia technology because of their Optimus service on their recent graphic cards, therefore I tried to "prioritize" the use of my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670M instead of the chipset Intel HD Family 4000 used in the laptop, by right-clicking on the GW2 icon and opening the NVIDIA panel to select the "Nvidia High performances" option.
    Unfortunately, the game still crashes after a few minutes. I obviously updated the drivers for the Nvidia but still, it doesnt work.
    Moreover, the laptop seems pretty slow to me even while browsing on the Internet and the desktop which is rather worrying since the laptot has 12 GB memory.
    Does anyone has an idea what is the reason for such low performances?
    Thanks by advance.

    Try this with your video card and power settings:
    Go to NVIDIA Control Panel (right click on desktop, 8th selection down), select/click
    First tab {Adjust image settings with preview}:
    Select: {Use my preference emphasizing: Performance}
    **select "performance"**
    Hit {Apply}
    Second tab {Manage 3D settings}
    **It gets technical but make sure it is exactly as I say it or it will not work. **
    Go to Subtab 1{Global Settings}:
    {Preferred graphics processor:}
    **SELECT "High-performance NVIDIA processor** *(see Note 1 at end)*
    Settings: *Again,it has to be exact; first phrase in { } is "Features" the first column, second phrase in { } is the "Settings", the second column:
    **Everything is on a drop-down menu if you click on the {Feature} name and mouse over the {Setting} option**
    {Ambient Occlusion} {Performance}
    {Anisotropic filtering} {Off}
    {Antialiasing-FXAA} {On}
    {Antialiasing-Gamma correction} {On}
    {Antialiasing-Mode} {Off}
    *Grayed out* {Antiliasing-Setting} {None}
    *Grayed out* {Antiliasing-Transparency} {Off}
    {CUDA-GPUs} {All}
    {Maximum pre-rendered frames} {4}
    {Multi-dislpay/mixed-GPU acceleration} {Single display performance mode} (see Note 2)
    {Power management mode] [Prefer maximum performance] **a no brainer but its default is not this setting**
    {Texture filtering-Anisotropic sample opt...} {On}
    {Texture filtering-Negative LOD bias} {Allow}
    {Texture filter-Quality} {Quality}
    {Texture filtering-Trilinear optimization} {On}
    {Threaded optimization} {Auto}
    {Triple buffering} {Off}
    {Vertical sync} {Off}
    *Hit "Apply" before moving to the third tab {Set PhysX Configuration}
    Third tab {Set PhysX Configuration}:
    *ONLY SETTING IN TAB*
    Select "GeForce GTX 670M"
    Hit {Apply}
    **NOT "CPU" and, NEVER "Auto-select (recommended)"** (see Note 1, again)
    Go to Power Settings in your Control Panel:
    Choose a Power Plan Option (Search "power" in search bar, choose the "Power plan", second selection under "Power Options" page.
    *GO WITH THE HIGH PERFORMANCE OPTION, VERY CRITICAL!!!!* By default it is on "balance" (I believe)
    Note 1: As far as I can tell the OS (Win8) can't transition like Win7 did between CPU and graphics card. Therefore every time graphics get going hard enough to demand the cards performance, the frames per rate stops or slows.
    Note 2: Select other option if setup is different.

  • Re: Qosmio X870 and Win8 - Impossible to connect iPhone 4S or to upgrade iTune

    On my Qosmio X870 13Q with windows 8, i can't connect my iPhone 4s or upgrade iTune.
    The analysis gives me this result : existing problem with driver of USB-IF x HCI Host Controller ( in french: il existe un problme au niveau du pilote de USB-IF x HCI Host Controller).
    Somebody can help me?

    The notebook Qosmio X870-13Q supports 4 USB 3.0
    2 USB ports supports sleep and charge, and two other USB 3.0 doesnt.
    I read somewhere that sometimes iPhone devices have problems with the new USB 3.0 standard

  • Qosmio X870 shut down all of a sudden

    My Qosmio X870 shut itself down all of a sudden and wouldnt turn on or charge for about an hour, what does this mean?

    I think it was a high temperature issue.
    Mostly the notebooks shut down automatically to prevent the hardware from damage.
    If the cooling grilles are full of dust or debris, its advisable to remove this using compressed air spray.

  • My Qosmio X870-14T heats up in 10 minutes

    Hello.
    I got Qosmio X870-14T. It heats up in 10 minute even i play most basic games and shuts down. CPU heat reaches 90 and it closes. I send it to warranty 3 times in 2 month. They update it and just send it back. Toshiba just dont care.
    What can i do guys? I realy need to fix it. But in my country Toshiba support is horrible.
    What can i do to fix it?

    Hi
    Generally the notebook would overheat because the internal parts produce too much warmness or the internal cooling modules dont run properly and cannot cool down the internal parts.
    Why internal parts would produce too much warmness? Well, this can be possible if you would use graphic drivers which are not designed for mobile usage.
    For example drivers from nVidia or ATI dont support GPU overheating protection. Such drivers allow the GPU to run with best performance (if necessary). This could lead to more heat dissipation and finally to overheating.
    GPU drivers released on Toshiba pages are modified for notebook usage and support such kind of protection.
    Why cooling fans cannot cool down the parts?
    Mostly because of dust inside the notebook vents. It could be also possible that cooling vents and fans are clogged by dust and cannot rotate properly and air cannot circulate as it should. In such case the notebook should be cleaned.
    Finally it could be possible that thermal grease which is placed between cooling module and CPU isnt good enough or dried out. This would also affect the CPU cooling and would lead to higher temperature.
    So as you see there are many reasons why notebook could overheat.

  • Qosmio X870 - non 3D screen replacement

    Hello,
    Broke my screen on an x870 and I'm looking at replacements.
    I was wondering if anyone could help me confirm I am 100% buying the correct screen.....
    I was looking at this one:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Toshib...item23349975b3
    Also, is it possible to instead put this slightly higher res screen in? It has the same dimensions. I saw this for the same price:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/17-3-1920x...X%3Cimg%20src=
    Would it be compatible?!
    Many thanks,

    It’s a matter of graphic card… you know…
    Regarding the panel compatibility question:
    The Qosmio X870 was equipped with a 17.3" TFT color LCD panel….
    Type of Lighting: sidelight LED
    Usually the display panel dealer should be able to say if this part would be compatible or not, but according to the information on the ebay page, the parts seems to be compatible…
    Many thanks for the reply. I have ordered the larger res one today, so hopefully it will be OK..... sounds like it should be!

  • How to disable Shared Video Memory on Qosmio X870?

    Hi,
    I find that when I use certain software packages (mainly CAD) then my video ram remains untouched. I cant seem to disable the shared system memory - which I believe is part of Nvidia Turbocache.
    Some websites and forums say that one can disable this in the BIOS is the manufacturer has released a BIOS drivers which would allow this - this does not seem to be the case at Toshiba.
    Is there another way I would be able to disable this setting. This Toshiba Qosmio x870 was purchased as we needed a notebook with a high end (class 1) graphics card. Unfortunately it seems to be under performing.
    I have tried to set all setting in the Nvidia control panel to Max Performace but I am still not getting the software (Micromine) to run properly.
    I would appreciated any suggestions or support from this form.
    Kind Regards,
    Jrgen

    Yea I know what you mean. Toshiba support for these kind of issues seems non existent. I think this kind of problem can also be attributed to the way Nvidea optimus tech runs on laptops. It controls which graphics chip is being used i.e between on board and dedicated and has been know to cause issues in some programs - maybe something to look into?
    Sorry you can't fix it :( I'm no guru and I'm out of ideas unfortunately....
    Good luck!

  • Found Permanent Solution to Overheating issues.

    Alright this is the part where some of you are going to be happy with me and some of you are going to be upset. That's because I know how to solve overheating issues with xp, and with macbookpro using the Geforce 9400M, and the Geforce 9600M GT. This solution very well could work for other systems, if you find the right drivers. but here it goes.
    Alright, I have obtained nvidia drivers that will efficiently replace your current ones and stop the both cards from running simultaneously. I have read that this is the problem, though I don't know if that's really what's going on, because obviously, we can all run high end gfx games on our mac os, and not get to the critical point of our laptops shutting down, but on Bootcamp we all seem to have this issue and I haven't found a single solution that really helps.
    Ok lets start off, everyone, use your fan control programs, wether SMC or input remapper, doesn't matter to me, personally, I use SMC and deal with the restarting os all the time to keep my fans running at max speed, 6000rpm.
    Now comes the solution, type this into google. "185.85notebook_winxp_32bitwhql" and I'm assuming though i don't know, that they have this for other than xp users. Download this driver from the very first site that comes up.
    And then proceed to uninstall your nvidia drivers for windows. Select "Remove Only the Following", and check both SMU DRIVER, and PCI SYSTEM MANAGEMENT, but for the sake of keeping your internet, leave the ethernet driver. Uninstall.
    Install your new nvidia drivers, and it should show up in your Add/Remove programs as being around 1gb of drivers. You should notice when you start your bootcamp your computer is complaining about new hardware thats not installed. Well yes, we're still using the gfx card, but without the extra drivers that apparently promote this overheating and instability.
    If you are having trouble, let me know I'd be happy to help you out, at any stage. Try this out, Worst case scenario, you have to put your disc back in and reinstall your drivers. Oh yes, And i'm using the newest disc out from Snow leopard. I don't know if the drivers are any different.
    Note Your computer will still heat up, it just doesn't reach the point during gaming that it needs to shut off to save your processor. Please let me know if this works for anyone else. I suffered this problem, of shutting down after an hour or two of play for weeks until I discovered that this solution worked for me.

    Sounds like a damaged database.
    There are reports on here from people with all sorts of issues. That's what the forum is for. It proves nothing except that people have all sorts of issues.
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
    This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Qosmio X870 - ODD make noise every 10 minutes

    I am using the Qosmio X870 for 2 days now. What is really getting on my nerves: Exactly every 10 minutes the CD drive makes a noise - just as if it would search for a CD or adjust the reading head.
    Could this be a defect or do I have the Chance to switch this off in the settings?
    Thanks a lot for your help!

    Hi
    I found two threads about similar issue:
    In this thread the new Windows 8 installation solved this:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=69468
    and this might be interesting for you too:
    http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Computer-Troubleshooting/L7555-Satellite-CD-DVD-drive-Noise/td-p/236844/page/2
    It looks that 'Toshiba PC Health Monitor' is the reason for this strange clicking noise.
    Disable the 'Toshiba PC Health Monitor' in msconfig startup tab.
    Uncheck the mark which appears near the PC health monitor and restart the notebook.

  • IMac 27" (Late 2012) Loud Fan and Overheating Issues, causing Hard Drive Failure

    Hi all,
    I'm having some serious overheating issues with my new iMac. Any help to help me solve this problem would be gladly appreciated since it's really beginning to bug me. Here's what's has happened:
    I noticed in the first few hours of switching the iMac on that there was a short burst of very loud fan noise. This has been happening about once every two days since and every time I haven't been doing any heavy processing with the system. I've noticed that the main fan will spin, on average, at 1200rpm. Is that normal? The iMac is very well ventilated and sits right next to a window...
    I have also boot camped the iMac with a copy of Windows 8 so I could run some fairly power-hungry games. I intentionally purchased a high end iMac (27" display, Intel Core i7 3.4GHz, Nvidia GeForce 680MX Graphics, 1TB Fusion drive) and expected the iMac to run games flawlessly. However, after a few days, I noticed that the CPU and GPU had shot up to a worrying 80°C whenever I ran power-hungry games, with a very loud hissing noise from the fan. After running games for about 10 minutes, the fan will stop hissing, causing the GPU and CPU to increase to 100°C. The iMac then fails and switches off unexpectedly without any warning. After analysing the Windows event logs, I received an event ID 41: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
    As this occurred about six times whilst I was testing my iMac's performance, I think my hard drive has now begun to fail - sometimes I will hear the hard drive make a click noise, about once every 5 seconds. Sometimes, the clicking noise causes OS X and Windows to run very slowly (even though minimal RAM is being used and nothing too intensive (Safari, Mail etc.) is being processed). Running Repair Disk and Repair Disk Permissions under OS X's recovery mode as well as a repair in chkdsk in Windows suggests that there were no problems with the hard drive. All I can do is wait a while for the clicking noise to stop, and then performance will increase. I have backed up everything externally.
    I have also performed a reset of the SMC as well as the PRAM, which hasn't really helped.
    Any help will be appreciated. I will gladly provide any extra logs etc. if they're needed.
    Thanks so much,
    Alex.

    That's the default fan speed on iMacs, so there isn't any problem with this.

    You must know that Boot Camp isn't compatible with Windows 8 and that Apple hasn't released drivers for Windows 8, so it can fail. Install Windows 7 inmediately until Apple launches updated drivers.
    As it looks like the hard disk is damaged, I would take the Mac to an Apple Store. It's in warranty, so it should be repaired for free or you should receive a new one

  • Clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on Qosmio X870

    When I received my laptop (Qosmio x870) I immediately uninstalled its OS since it was filled with bloatware and installed a clean version of windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. After my install I have been trying to install the drivers on my laptop, but some don't seem to be working.
    My VGA driver has installed, but the windows experience index for my graphics is 5.5 which is much lower than it should be (if memory serves right it was 7.4 before I uninstalled the original bloated O.S). However, the biggest problem I have come across is the Network driver. I have installed every single network driver on Toshiba's driver page for the qosmio x870, but none seem to work. For some reason the laptop thinks my wifi is turned off, which I know is not (unless there is a setting in bios which should be changed otherwise I really don't know).
    I really need some help here guys, if someone can point me to the EXACT drivers I absolutely need it would mean the world to me. Toshiba should really have a bundle of essential drivers, like most other computer companies have, it makes everything so much easier for people who hate the bloated O.S that comes with their laptop.

  • Where can i find Win8 graphic drivers for Qosmio X870-BT2G23?

    Hello, I brought the new Qosmio X870.
    It comes with Seagate Mumentos XT 750GB hybrid drive, I have installed Intel 120GB SSD on the free slot and 1st surprise no option for RAID on BIOS.
    As top of the line gaming machine this option should be available.
    But lets go to the point, because I dont use windows 7 home on my network I am installing Window 8 consumer preview (on the SSD drive) so I can use Hyper-v for my work and make some gaming on free time, and 2nd surprise Toshiba support site as no drivers for my model the site not even recognize my model existence, search by serial number did find the model but not even 1 download available.
    Now 3rd surprise can't find option to download driver for Nvidia GTX 670M on Nvidia site, or any other of the new mobile boards from Nvidia.
    After some research I managed to find model X870-BT2G23 on Toshiba TW support site and get the drivers for the other unknown devices in device manager.
    So my question is where can we find the driver for the Nvidia GTX 670M?
    Sorry for the long text and the bad English.
    Regards

    Hello again,
    Sorry for the delay on follow up, because I've been busy.
    In the same day I was able to extract the graphics driver from the original installation and installed on the windows 8 OS.
    I am sorry, maybe is my English, but I don't want the Windows 8 drivers, I want the original drivers and software available on support page. I cannot understand that an international company like Toshiba is selling a new product but no drivers CD included and no reference for the new product on the support page, a good and fast support is essential on modern global business.
    Nvidia auto detect feature on Nvidia driver download page now correctly identifies GTX 670M but says that the graphic card as specially tailored by the notebook manufacturer and the driver should be downloaded from the manufacturer download site.
    Other open question is the possibility to choose RAID on BIOS since the chipset as able to do it, and to be able to accelerate drive access with Intel Smart Response technology (use a SSD disk to speed access to the main disk), or to configure 2 SSD drives in stripe (RAID 0). Sorry but the mumentos XT hybrid is a good disk but lacks the kind of performance this machine can deliver.
    So now all devices are correctly identified on device manager, the only thing I miss at the moment is the software for the special keys on the keyboard and some of the software originally installed for the Blu-ray, because I really don't want the huge amount of software that came with the original windows 7 home on my start up.
    The Qosmio X870 is lighting fast with Windows 8 on a really old Intel SSD, can't wait to try 2 SSD new generation on RAID 0 (maybe one day), here is Windows performance index
    Processor: 7,8
    Memory (RAM): 8,8
    Graphics: 5,8
    Gaming Graphics: 6,5
    Primary hard disk: 7,8
    The low 5,8 on windows aero is because Nvidia GTX 670M don't kicks in till the 3D tests, the original disk scored 5,6 so even if this is not an last generation SSD 7,8 is a huge difference.
