QR code date merge error.

When trying to create a qr code data merge in indesign, I cannot seem to create actual QR codes.
Instead they are previewing as text.
How can I create a QR data merge code with QR codes?

No real tuts that I am aware of. Here is a link to a sample set of files.
In the ZIP is an ID file, the merge text (tab delimited),4 images for the merge (hey, it's Disney character themed), and most importantly, an Excel file. In the Excel file, the last column is a calculated field that pulls together info from the other fields and adds the strings (text) that is needed.
I no longer have access to ID 2014. I used the trial version to help someone else do this and to prepare this sample. I suspect I can answer your questions without being able to actually see the ID file should you have any.
Take care, Mike

  • Data Merge Errors in InDesign CS5 - need help please!

Trouble with Data Merge in InDesign CS5: We have a word doc that was created, then each appropriate section was cut and pasted into an excel file. When the Excel file is saved as a csv file and imported, the file unexpectedly stops, not completing its flow into the appropriate data fields. We are thinking that it is because of some unknown "special/hidden" characters within the original Word file. Is this a correct assumption, and if so is there a way to show those characters in order to eliminate them? (we did not create the word doc originally)
Or, is there another way that we can accomplish what we are trying to accomplish, which is to flow text from a database into an InDesign template?

I'd start by opening the .csv file in a plain text editor and taking a good look at it to make sure each record has the same number of fields (commas) and there are no obvious special character problems. Then resave from there as plain text with the .csv extension.

  • QR codes data merge for delegate badges

    Hi
We are creating delegate badges for a event and have 300 names and details we would like to merge into a badge design,
merge fields have been done <Name> and <Company> however the client has requested a qr code that can be scanned to phone and creates a vcard.
i have read the support about data source files, however as a novice to excel, I am not sure how i create the 'csv' so it import and creates a QR code
any help would be very much appreciated

    Thanks mike,
I saw these, however the stumbling bloc for me is the csv\excel and how i set that up for a vcard
    the post explaining BEGIN:VCARD\nVERSION:2.1, etc...just didn't make sense .........
as reading it, sounds like I would need to do this to each of the delegates manually, which then it is weighing up the time spent doing that or doing each qr code in design, copy and pasting in the fields, either way is far to long!
I'm a creative designer, i do pretty pictures
    kind regards

  • Data Merge error message

I keep receiving this message when selecting Data Source in InDesign: "The data source cannot be opened. Confirm that the file exists and that you have rights to open it, then choose the Select Data Source command again." I saved my excel file as a .csv file. What else needs to be done or isn't being done right?

Below is a sample of what I am trying to merge into InDesign. Do the fields look right to you? Or are the comma and dollar signs a problem when it comes to merging?

  • Data Merge error InDesign CC 2014

    Hi Folks!
Eager to use new InDesign CC 2014, I was trying to develop a simple set of Certificates for a costumer, as I always did in older versions of InDesign. 50 sheets or so (each sheet just change the name and the category os certificate). Everything was fine, but when I output the merged file, InDesign just COLLAPSED! Many times occured the same. Fortunately I could do it in InDesign CC, that worked fine.
Can anybody tell me if occurred same issue in new InDesign CC 2014?
    Thanks a lot!

  • Korean in InDesign data merge error

korean is recognized as empty column that contains the
    What should I do?
    ex)
    name,adress,no
    aaa,"""서울""",1
    """나나나""",bbb,2
    """다다다""","""부천""",3

Likely it is the encoding of the merge file that is the problem.
I don't know if you needed the quote marks or not, so I stripped them. From Excel, I exported as a Unicode TXT file, which will automatically export as UTF-16 and is tab delimited. The result is shown below once merged.
Edit to add, make sure you are using an appropriate fonts, too

  • How generate QR codes in data merge?

which format i need to use in a .csv or .txt files to generate the "Business Card" QR codes (using data merge) ??
i haven't found it in the help!!
    Enhanced Datamerge
You can integrate a QR code in the merged document. Following are the different types of QR code fields that can be added via Data Merge workflow:
    Plain Text
    Web Hyperlink
    Text Message
    Email
    Business Card
To generate the QR codes the data entries in the .txt or .csv files, which are used as Data Source, are in the following format:
Plain Text: In the QR code Column enter the text as it is.
Web Hyperlink: URL:<url> (For example “URL:http://www.google.com”)
    Text Message: SMSTO:<Phone number>:<Message> (For example: “SMSTO:9818143551:Hi”)
    Email: MATMSG:\nTo:<email address> (example: “MATMSG:\nTO:[email protected]\nSUB:Hi;\nBODY:;;”)
Though the data entries can be a mix of email, sms, hyperlink, or plain text type. Enter them in the .csv and txt field in the above mentioned format with a # sign on their column name. To generate QR codes, follow these instructions:
Select Windows > Utilities > Data Merge.
From the flyout menu, select Select Data Source.
Select the data file with the QR field information. Click Open.
Select the placeholder in the document.
Click Create Merged Document icon to create a merged document.

    thank you very much Steve!
I've try to use the sample of the best answer and doesen't work fine
but in other answers i've found some links to VCard definition and this helped me to find the couple of errors in Monica's code (it's 3 little mispelled words or spaces-but this make the QR unreadable)

  • The system failed to merge, error code : General Access denied

The system failed to merge, error code : General Access denied. Could anyone help me on this

    Hi,
It could be several things, I think it could be a good start with the following page:
    https://blogs.technet.com/b/chrad/archive/2009/10/02/differencing-disks-merging-80070005-error-just-one-persons-lesson-learned.aspx
If that doesn't help you could check out the following technet page to see if it is a permission problem. (it is not exactly  the same problem but one of our customers once had the same problem and we solved it with the follwing KB:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2249906/en-us
    Hope this helps you out.

  • ORA-01403: no data found Error in PLSQL code raised during plug-in processing.

    Hello OTN community,
We are having the access to APEX problem. a New user was setup to access the APEX application. When I test to login as a new user, I get the message "ORA-01403: no data found Error in PLSQL code raised during plug-in processing.". When click OK to the disply message, the application will take me out of the sstem. I need help to even understand what is happening. I didn't develop the application, there is no documentation for this application, I am just supporting the application whenever there is a problem and I am new to APEX. As you can see I need help to figure this thing out. Your help is dearly appreciated.
    Thank you OTN

Try to check the query that is executed and check if there is data or not

  • Is there a way of generating Indesign new QR code with Data merge?

The QR Code Content area will not accept a data merge field. Is there any way of using these for generating variable data QR code?

    No, it is not possible.

  • Data merge with football tickets. Printing causes out of memory errors. Can only print 10 at a time!

Here's the deal. Printing football tickets for the local high school. 10 tickets per 8.5 x 11 sheet. All black and white. I couldn't data merge into one whole document of tickets because it was failing to do that. So, I end up with 3 documents. First two have 50 pages of tickets and the last has 37 pages.
When I go to print, I can only print 10 pages at a time or InDesign straight up crashes or I get an "Out of Memory" error which is bull because I've got plenty of ram available (unless it's complaining about lack of HD space for some reason)
    Incredibly frustrating.
Each ticket has 3 images on it. Two of the images are the same. Those two images are about 103kb .ai files. Very very simple. The other image is a TIFF that is about 76kb. So there are 1000 .ai files / document and 500 TIFFs.
Here's a video I took of it ripping: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCjvdmXuaYs&feature=c4-overview&list=UUf_1UFp80YLZJfCyIxXEg kg
Also, when printing, I have the Send Data set to Optimized Subsampling instead of "All". That's not seeming to help.
    Any thoughts?
    IDCS 5.5
    OSX 10.8.4

I just ran a sample on my laptop.
AI file, duplicated, is 284k. Image is roughly 200k. The CSV has 2054 records, and the merged document with 10 per page is 250 megabytes. PDF is just under 50 megs.
This laptop has only 4 gigs memory but has a lot of free disk space. It took a good amount of time to do the merge, a bit longer to create the PDF-X1a PDF.

  • Can Indesign CC generate QR codes from a data merge?

Looking to generate QR codes from a data merge.  Currently I have to manually generate the codes with a batch generator and then save them out as links and import them with the data merge.
If Indesign CC could generate them all in one swoop that would remove a lot of external steps in the process.
Is there any way to do this?

Not directly from the data merge panel or flyout. This would be something that may be able to be scripted, but I haven't seen a script that will do this... yet.
There are PAID third party plugins like Meadows Publishing Solutions that will do this. http://www.meadowsps.com/free2d is a taster of what it can do. XMPie is another one, or teacup software has one as well.

  • Check InDesign data merge template for errors without creating document?

I've got a big InDesign template with hundreds of rows. Producing a full batch takes over an hour, and sometimes crashes. The deadline is fast approaching, and I'm waiting for the final minor amendments to the content spreadsheet, which could virtually land any minute.
I want to check for overset text errors on the current sheet without creating a merged document or PDF, so I can get on with fixing any likely major problems before the final sheet arrives - but I don't want to create a full merged doc, because that will take a very long time and will that doc's content will be obsolete, whereas the overall length of the text will change very little.
When you create a merged document, you have the option to turn "Generate overset text report" off. What I want to do, is ONLY generate the overset text report, without actually storing the merged document in memory.
    Is this possible?
The closest I can see is click through the "Next" button in the Data Merge palette with Preview turned on, while watching the "No errors" preflight panel notification at the bottom of the screen. This is probably faster than creating a full merge, but still very slow.

That is what Indesign does when it does a data merge, it creates copies of the document and there's no way to change this.  Have you tried exporting to PDF (In CS4 you can do this in one step from the original) and printing?  I've never had anyone confirm it definitively but I'm pretty sure that the PDF created will be an 'optimized' one, meaning that when it sends it off to a compatible printer the images will be sent once and cached, with only the text that changes being sent separately.
Definitely worth comparing it to Publisher for speed anyway, Office programs can merge straight to the printer, but in effect they're doing the same thing.  There are programs out there for doing far fancier stuff than data merge, probably the best is XM Pie, but unless you've got a printer that recognises their language they're a waste of time in this circumstance anyway.

  • Data Merge Giving you QR Codes Now? The Answer is here.

I finally figured this out. The # is now used to mark columns that will auto-generate QR codes. But just removing the # doesn't fix the problem either. InDesign can remember that it existed there at one point. You have to completely delete that entire row in your spreadsheet and remake it.
Why they choose the number symbol as the symbol to wreck havoc in a data merge when a great deal of time columns in a merge are labeled as #1, #2, #3... is beyond me. So many of the world's data merge files have to be remade now. Apparently they couldn't afford the license for a ~ or something not related to numbered lists.

The apps would yes but it depends on your investment if they are premium paid apps are you prepared to loose your investment (this is lessend if you own an ipad though)
There are so many ways to sync an android to your pc/mac i can only discuss galaxy range as thats what i own, apps like airdroid do wireless, samsung kies is also a wifi app so no need for cables since ics mtp has been set as main usb protocol as opposed to usb mass storage which is easier. At first my mac would not see the phone but a couple of clicks later and it works, drag and drop.
As for syncing data itself on a samsung you get two options which you can set up:
Google account, this syncs and backsup contacts, settings and apps, so if you reninstall or rest the phone then it will auto install your apps. google sync also auto updates your calender and if you use chrome on the pc, then your bookmarks are automatically avaliable on your phone, in fact it also syncs your current tab so if you leave your pc and want to carry on reading a webpage, that current page is already avaliable on your phone
Then for samsung you get scloud - this backups up sms mms settings contacts and more.
However as i mentioned before if you have heavily invested in apps tv films etc, then your best staying with apple, if your prepared to start again then yes android is an option.
One thing i dont see being mentiones regarding the maps issue is that while the data can be made more accurate the actual sat view cannot unless apple repurchase maps from someone like google (wont do) or Microsoft whose map views are superior. Hopefully apple will listen to its users and permit the google maps app (if there is one) through promptly
Again for the record i own a mac and had 2 ipads, no tablet comes close to the ipad so my advice is just for ref and not to say ones better than the other
