QT 10 and OSStatus-Error -108

Hello readers
I did try to use the Screen Recording function but as soon as I hit the menu entry I get the error "OSStatus-Error -108". If I hit "OK" and then do the same command again, I won't see the error again but if I quit QT it will freeze.
Does anyone have a idea what's wrong?
Thank you for your help.
Kind regards
Thoams Thaler

I did test the machine with an second user, but I still have the same error message.
Alos a installation of the Mac OS X 10.6.2 Combo didn't solve the problem.
I just don't like to setup this machine again from scratch as I did install some software which takes an additional 1hour of installation and setup.

  • IPhoto won't export my slideshow? I get the message (OSStatus error - 108)

I try to export my slideshow created from a photobook on 80 pages in iPhoto. I think I have tried everything and different formats. I get the message (OSStatus error - 108) no matter what I try. It's a photobook made for my sons 18 years birthday and my plan was to show it to the party this friday.
    So it's a little confusing!
    What to do?

Some folks have fixed exporting issues by reinstalling the app.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • (OSStatus error -108.) | Quicktime Screen Recording

The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -108.)
I receive this error message when attempting to use the "screen recording" function of Quicktime X.  Cannot find any information on this specific error besides the fact that it is due to insufficient memory, although I don't believe I actually have a memory issue.  The "movie recording" and "audio recording" functions still work. Tried another screen recording program named Voila, and while I can begin to record, after I stop recording I end up with a corrupted file. Strange thing is, I tried a third screen recording program, Debut, a free program, and can successfully record my screen (although the video is choppy/essentially unusable). I have been having trouble with my MacBook since I installed a CUDA driver (now deleted), and so I believe this could be the actual root of the problem. Do I need to install a different graphics driver? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

  • Xsan 1.4.1 and Quicktime Error -108

First, have a brief look through this old thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2468809#2468809
This was a huge ongoing problem with anyone who was using final cut studio apps and xsan (until it was resolved in 1.4) As of recently (just after upgrading to 1.4.1) on one of the machines in our cluster, instead of 2048 corruption of rendered files 50% of of the time, I now am seeing a new issue that about 20% of the time, a render fails due to error -108, always on one of the machines.
So far I've tried rebooting and remaking the cluster, and nothing seems to have fixed the issue. I had been using this machine as well with just 1.4 and 10.4.8 without this issue for a decent amount of time as well. Apple support was nice enough last time to have submitted the problem to engineering even though I didn't have a support contract cause of the amount of heat they got for the 2048 issue, but this time it sounded like I would have to buy support for 4 seats before anything happened, so I'm kinda out of luck.
Wanted to know if anyone else had this issue and if it's a new potential issue, or just something that will need me to reinstall the OS on that machine.
Thanks for anyone who can provide some insight!

There seems to exist license issue.
    Yesterday, I have upgraded MDCs from 10.4.6 & Xsan 1.3 to 10.4.8 & Xsan 1.4.
Xsan & StorNext clients can mount Xsan Volume.
But even shutting down a Windows client, total number of connected clients doesn't reduced at Xsan Admin.
So when the # of clients is more than # of SNFX licence.dat, the windows client can't mount Xsan volume.
BTW at cvadmin # of connected clients is recognized correctly.
    Any idea?

  • OSStatus error -108 in QuickTime while trying to record my desktop.

I am getting 'OS Status error -108' in QuickTime (v10) while I am trying to record my desktop.  I get this error as soon as I hit the record button.
Anybody know what this could be? How to fix?

OK just zapped the PRam, no Cigar.
Personally, I did not think it would help. (As previously noted, I tend to agree with those who consider this more of a "contiguous" memory problem.)
see the 10.6.8 was installed freshly about 3 weeks ago.  this MM functions as a server doing faxes, answering machine, print server and a few emails a day (iMovie is not even installed neither is Flip4Mac).  so it is not like in heavy use.  so I fail to see how their can be fragmentation.
Did you "wipe" the drive prior to your install? If not, there is the possibility of carryover fragmentation. I just checked my startup drive and found 709,236 of 1,991,704 items out of optimum order (36%) since my last routine maintainence optimization, drive mechanics test, and general "dusting & cleaning" exercise. Here is the graph:
Of course, I may process an average of 100 GBs to 200 GBs of data during a typical day of copying, converting, and storing video content. (Yesterday was a non-typical day since I had to "panic" backup 597 GBs of DVD images from one RAID drive to another because one array appeared to require reformatting following its latest firmware and dashboard updates. This was in the middle of copying a season of TV shows to my internal drive, converting them for TV use, adding them to my iTunes library, inserting metadata, and proofing the results. In any case, it appears my DroboPro will survive after all since I discovered this morning that the dashboard installer app as released by manufacturer support was probably faulty. (I.e., the embedded PKG file embedded within the installer application was opening Pacifist for installation rather than the Mac OS Installer.app as it should have done. In any case, I extracted the installer package from the app file, corrected the problem, and ran the PKG file manually to save the need of backing up another 7 TBs of data over the next week.)
In any case, to get back to your problem... It may be a good idea to simply see if you can find a program that will graph, disply, or otherwise reveal your current state of fragmentation. If the disk is not fragmented, then you can continue your search for an alternative solution. If it is highly fragmented, then you can try the defragmentation option and see it it works. In either case, it may help others if you post your results here for further review.
    Best of luck...

  • I have 12 brand new installs of 27" I-Macs, all running Adobe CC. I have several users trying to make simple saves and getting Error -108 Out of Memory errors.

    The Mac OS is 10.9.5.
I've already gone into plug ins and Scratch disk preferences and changed the secondary  location to the user's hard drive, but this does not solve the problem.
I cannot change the "primary " from Startup, but I did change the secondary to the user's ID instead of None.
These are all brand new Macs in use no more than two weeks.

Windows 7 includes DirectX 11 in its baseline and it is not necessary to install another version of it.  Your problems may be caused by the installation of the version of DirectX you installed.  Uninstall the one you installed and see if you
    still have the errors.

  • Osstatus error -108 when exporting slideshow ... what does this mean?

I googles this and can't find anyone who has had it. How can you find out without being an operating systems developer!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What happens to the slideshow other than giving you this error. Don't know what it means. However, several users have reported iPhoto crashing when trying to export a slideshow. You might search this forum for that to see if you're experiencing something similar. As far as I know there was no fix found.
Be sure to report it to Apple via via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.

  • IMovie Error 49 and Error 108 solution

    Hi everyone
I had the well known problem of exporting films from iMovie 11 on my Retine MacBook - three films of 34min, 44min and 67min length - three parts of a trip to Indian ocean. It took some time to solve the problems and I am grateful for the solutions suggested in this forum, but also for support of my son who works on a MacBook too. Firstly, I can say that the authorised really Apple Support couldn't help me. I spent in the Apple Genius Bar over one hour, and they were not able to find solution to my problem. Secondly, the Apple Online support suggested to reinstall iMovie, which didn't help at all. They also wanted me to reinstall the whole MacBook which I refused, because I was aware that other people referred, that this had no effect either. I also tried to export the films from another Retina MacBook and then an older MacBook - both with same iMovie 11 program. However,  the same error message came up there too.
    So what did really help?
First, iMovie doesn't like to have multiple projects opened. I reduced them to only one project in iMovie and then started to export, that means the error -49 didn't occur anymore. (I have 8GB RAM - only a half of it is used, and 500 GB SSD, but only 250 GB used - so it could not be a memory problem).
After one hour of exporting or more, the program couldn't complete the export and displayed error 108. In this case, I managed to fix it by disabling automatic local backup mechanism (typing command 'sudo tmutil disablelocal' on terminal window), but it workedo for the 34min and the 67min films only.
The 44min film still didn't work. Maybe because I used more titles in the sequences or French alphabet signs like 'é'. I dont know. I solved it by splitting the film into two 22min sequences and exported them succesfully. Then I took the 2 sequences as 2 events for a new project and re-exported them - this time succesfully.
I hope this research will help you to solve the problems of exporting films from iMovie.
    Good luck

    Just to explain why:
The iMovie files are being written to backup by Time Machine. Due the files being in use by another process, iMovie can't finish the processes that it began.
Turning off Time Machine or allowing several minutes to hours to complete the TM write will cease the error.
There is also a Terminal method to turn off Local Snapshots:

  • The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -54.)

I have been having trouble with transferring iPhoto to my new iMac from my Mac Pro.
I copied the iPhoto Library over the new drive.  When i opened iPhoto it was blank.  The file was 650GB but no photos in iPhoto.
On my original machine I opened iPhoto and it said it needed to be updated.  After that it opened with no photos showing.
After several tries I used the Time Machine back up and I transferred that.  The photos showed up but the video clips will not play.
Any ideas on how to get the video clips working.  The error I receive when I try to plan the video clips is,
"The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -54.)"
This is for both my new iMac and my old Mac Pro.
    Thanks

Just a few remarks, in addition to Larry's excellent advice:
Any ideas on how to get the video clips working.  The error I receive when I try to plan the video clips is,
"The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -54.)"
The error message is a permissions error. Either iPhoto cannot open the file or cannot find it. I am seeing this error message when copying iPhoto libraries or any packages usually, when one of the drives in question is formatted incorrectly (the file system is not MacOS Extended (Journaled)), or when the package contains unreadable files. Or one of the file names may contain invisible, illegal characters.  Make sure, the "Ignore Ownership" flag is set on both drives in question, to avoid permission problems and make sure the file system is correct  on all drives.
And (OSStatus error -54.) is usually a first warning, when a drive starts to fail. So make sure, you do not delete any backups, you may need them.
After several tries I used the Time Machine back up and I transferred that.  The photos showed up but the video clips will not play.
If your file system is correctly formatted as MacOS Extended (Journaled) and the Database rebuild correctly, but the videos still do not play, it might be a problem of a missing Cache file, typically caused by apps that clean caches, etc, to clean your Mac. On MacOS X 10.8.5 has been a problem with videos in some cases, when cleaning applications cleaned a certain cache, and a helper file was missing, that may be necessary to play videos. That problem still persists with Yosemite.
With MacOSX Mavericks and  Mt. Lion it helped to rebuild the cache using a Terminal command:

  • Imovie 11 , error -108

I made a project, about 9 minutes long, I'm trying to export it to iTunes but it doesnt work. It will always break down and say “error -108“ same if I try to upload it to quicktime or facebook. please help me.

I M also facing this same problem but i think i have figured out some other way to finish it. It is too long and tiresome but at least gives better result then awful MP4 quality.
Its true that it is RAM problem and it comes due to shortage of RAM. One can use Activity monitor to see RAM usage but i used FreeRam software ( u can get it free from App store). It used to crash when my free memory used to almost 0. I have MacBook pro with 4 GB Ram and 500 GB hard disk. My movie was only 3 min long and had all pictures and text in it. It gave 108 error again and again. I tried to check the limit of this error. It successfully converted when video length was around 1:30. It might be different on urs. So i divided into 2 parts. Exported in 1080p HD quality. Then in new project imported those two videos again, added one after another and then it exported successfully in 720p instead of 1080p. But its still way better than MP4 quality. However, problem is to adjust ur backgroud music so that they perfectly unite again. I know it will be hard for those who have very long movie but if its that imp than you should go for it. I think problem comes when you add pictures or text to the videos. If there are only videos then it does fine or maybe not if you do some advanced editing. It worked fine for me and took less than 20 MB RAM.
Or other solution is buy more RAM and install it if compatible with you mac.
    I hope this helps.
PS . Do restart your comp and see to that your free memory is around 2.50 GB atleast. Rest do whatever you want to but just start your exporting after getting your free memory around 2.50 GB

  • In iphoto i get this error for a video that I wanted to play - The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -54.) what is that error and how to fix it?

The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -54.)
My Apple course instructor felt it would be smart to create all in iphoto dragging in all videos and photos to one spot.
I now get these errors and they wont play.
What is the error telling me and how do I fix it and get the video to play please??
Is it true iphoto will be replaced in this New Year and if so does anyo

    No it didn't at all.
I went to the finder and saw several of the same .
When I called Apple they told me not to delete anything using the Finder… odd I thought, as that was the only way I could see the multiple videos and photos.
Do you think there is any harm in deleting from there directly if I have a good playable copy?
    Thank you both for responses.
The clips/videos some are from iPhone 4.
I opened it manually and found 4 copies of most of the same videos, same names, some with slight variations. Don't know why.
Some are titled from iphoto /Masters    don't know why that happened
Now I also have some clips with white dotted line on grey where the clip used to be? why would that occur??
In my finder there are now 97000 images. Yet I only have 22,000 in iphoto. Where are the rest located and why so many duplicates?
Have I checked a box somewhere and need to address that?
Thank you for any insight and guidance.

  • What is OSstatus error -9549 and how to solve it?

When I was using my iPhoto '09 (Version 8.1.2 (424)) to export a slideshow, I got the following error:
    The operation couldn't be completed.
    OSstatus error -9549
I've never seen this error before previously when performing similar operation. What does it mean and any solution?
    Thanks!

I have the same 9549 error condition trying to export a Display resolutions slideshow. I can reliably repeat this error. My slideshow export hasw125 still images ~4mb each and two songs ~ 6 minutes. the error is thrown near the end of the export.
    Running iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 (424)
    OS X 10.8.5
Macbook Pro 2.2.Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.
Would appreciate a solution or workaround. FYI I'm using iPhoto to produce this slidshow because iMovie creates objectionally jumpy transitions when using Ken Burns effects. Pretty frustrating using these Apple products to try to make a slideshow with music. If anyone has a 3rd party software app that can do the job please share that too. I'm spending too much time troubleshooting faulty Apple apps.
    Thanks.
