QT 6.5.2 opens these MP4 videos, but QT 7.4.5 cannot

I have a set of videos I downloaded from the Internet in MP4 format. I expect they were extracted from a set of DVDs with HandBrake or something similar. Most of them open and play fine in QuickTime (7.4.5), but two do not; QuickTime says "The movie could not be opened. The movie contains some invalid data." (Nor will iTunes open them.) I thought it might be a Perian problem, so I removed Perian, but that didn't help. RealPlayer apparently uses QuickTime to play MP4, so it couldn't open them. So I tried them on my PowerBook G3, with 10.3.9 and QuickTime 6.5.2, and they opened just fine! Odd that an old version of QT can handle them, but the latest can't? They also open and play fine in VLC. I know very little about video stuff; does anyone have an idea how these videos might be "cleaned up" (without losing any quality) using QT 6.5.2 or VLC (or something else) so they will open in QT 7.4.5?

Well, what's odd is (1) these are two videos out of a set of 15, all converted from DVD to MP4 by (I presume) the same person (probably in Windoze); the other 13 open fine in QuickTime but these don't; but (2) they do open in QuickTime 6.5.2. And they open in VLC, but it's annoyance having to use a different viewer for two out of the set of 15 -- especially since I plan to pass this set on to a non-computer-expert friend or two (they're EFT training videos). Fortunately, I've found both at YouTube, whence I can download them and convert them to MP4 to complete the set.
Thanks for your response.

how can these two issue to resolved

    Hi,
To downgrade your OS, follow these instructions:
How to Downgrade Your Blackberry OS
    1. Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager (BDM) installed on your computer. You can download it for free at http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/ for PC or Mac.
    2. Download the OS you wish to downgrade to and install that file on your computer. It will integrate with BDM.
    3. Backup your contacts, settings, and personal files on your Blackberry with BDM. This will save you from losing your contact list and other personal information.
    4. To begin the downgrade process, start BDM with your Blackberry attached to your computer via the supplied cable.
    5. Once BDM has started and you are at the main screen, click on Application Loader and then Update Software.
    6. After the BDM reads information from your Blackberry, you will be presented with a list of available updates. Select the version you wish to install by checking the box next to the version and click Next.
    7. After the BDM reads your device, the process will start. Once started, follow the prompts and do not unplug your device or the installation will become corrupted. The process will take 25-30 minutes to complete. When the installation is complete, you will receive a message from BDM stating so.
    8. You may have to reinstall some programs such as Blackberry App World, special themes, or games you purchased. If you backed up your device, you can now allow BDM to restore your files.
    9. To restore files and settings, go to the main screen on BDM and select Backup and Restore and then select Restore.
    10. You will be prompted for the backup file from earlier, which by default has the date in the name of the file. Once completed you will be shown a message stating it is complete.
Let me know if you have any problems,

  • Have an MP4 video but can't get it into itunes

I have an MPEG-4 video that I want to import into itunes and then play on ipod video. The file type is fine in terms of the spec that apple says can be played on ipod video.
I have tried dragging the file into the library and 'add folder to library', as well as 'add file to library', but none of them seem to work.
I do not get any error messages, but i can not find the video anywhere in the library. Every websire I have been to says to just drag the file into the library.
    Please can anyone help? thanks....

OK, have tried a different file, which I can now import into itunes. It is showing on the ipod, but without sound. I looked at other post advice, but they don't refer to MP4.

  • I'm trying to play an .mp4 video, but it does not display smoothly; image is jumpy.  The sound is fine, but the image starts and stops.  When I play the same file in WMV, displays just fine.

Any suggestions on what I can try to clear this up?  Videos that I have downloaded through iTunes work just fine.  I don't know how to troubleshoot this file to see what is causing the issue.

It reads other DVD's just fine.  I've tried playing commercial DVD's and homemade movies and they all work just fine.  I'm also able to create and read data discs with no problem.   I'm only having trouble playing this one particular DVD movie.   I'm able to play the movie in my PS3 with no problem and can play it in a regular HDMI DVD player.   I'm not sure if my computer doesn't recognize the encoding for the movie or if I need to download another type of software to play the movie.  Someone suggested that i try using PowerDVD to see if it could play the movie.
Ok then tell me this what is that DVD your having problem watching then? And what Region Code are you from like Euro is Region 2 and so on??? Could be the Region problem on the DVD doesn't match your drive Region as well?

  • Colors reversed in QuickTime MP4 videos.

Colors are fine if I open .mov files with QuickTime, or if I open MP4 files with DivX, but the colors are reversed if I open MP4 files (loaded from my Kodak camera to Kodak Easy Share on my PC) with Quicktime or Realplayer.  Tried updating both programs, but nothing changed.  I'm baffled.  Help would be appreciated!

Thanks for all your help, and I hope you aren't freezing down there in Christchurch!  I have a couple of online friends in NZ now (discovered when I was watching the lost Emperor Penguin "Happy Feet" last year) and they recently sent me a link to a YouTube video of the KiwiRail train plowing snow in Arthur's Pass.  Looked like the kind of snow we get here in Michigan, but, of course, not in June, and we don't have mountains.  Right now, we're roasting in 90-degree F temperatures.
Anyway, my attempt to bring in the videos on my 93-year-old father's computer was frustrating, but it isn't the type of problem you (or anyone) can solve.  First, I arrived at Dad's house and grabbed his camera, only to discover that he had given up on ever being able to transfer the videos to his PC and had deleted them all! :-((  Then I waited while QuickTime downloaded, but soon realized that it was only updating QT 6, not installing QT 7, so I had to start over.  By then, we had discovered that Dad has some other program (I can't recall the name of it) that would open the MP4 videos, but he wanted QT because he likes being able to cut off the beginning and end of the video to pare it down to the parts he wants.  After I had downloaded and installed QT 7, I was horrified to find that this version will not do that kind of editing unless we buy the Pro edition, which Dad isn't going to do.  So I had downloaded a version of QT that he doesn't need and that actually does LESS than he could do before.  He kept begging me to find a way to retrieve the old version of QT, but I don't think it can be done.  I think we're stuck with the new one.  That's disappointing because many of our videos are of animals, and that usually involves a lot of dull time on the video before and after the animal does something interesting.
Not real happy with Apple right now. :-(  But thanks for all the guidance anyway.  Take care and stay warm!

  • Photoshop wont open .mp4 video file

Could you be missing a codec?

  • Cannot open any mp4 files on Quicktime but plays ok within iTunes.

Hi, I'm new to apple discussion forum, I have been searching for answer to my problems but couldn't find the resolution.
I have dozens of MP4 files which plays well on Quicktime on my other systems running XP-Pro. Recently I transferred my mp4 files on a portable drive and I wanted to open them up on a system which has 64-bit Vista. I can open all the files within iTunes without a problem (although it had to install files within iTunes first) but the same mp4 files won't run on Quicktime.
I wanted to be able to run the mp4 files on Quicktime without the need to open iTunes first, as I don't want to install these mp4 files in iTunes.
If any of these mp4 files are opened on Quicktime, I am getting an "Error -43: file not found..." message although the files are there. I don't think it's related to the 8 character limitation because I even tried to chunk-out the characters. I have tried many times to uninstall and reinstall both iTunes and Quicktime and also tried many times to run the standalone Quicktime setup by itself, but the same error-message remains.
I tried to run the mp4 file on RealPlayer as well as DivX but both program says it needed Quicktime to run the file, although Quicktime was installed it seemed like the programs cannot see quicktime, and yet when I run any of the mp4 files within iTunes they work fine.
Any reason why Quicktime won't open file and yet iTunes can open the same file?
I don't know of any but is there any known Quicktime compatibility problem with 64-bit Vista and if so what causes the conflict, or are there any workaround or patches? (can't find any related issues on Microsoft support)
Is there any way I can resolve this issue, and be able to open these mp4 files within Quicktime without getting error -43 message and without the need to install the mp4 files within iTunes first?
Any help from any good people out there are very much appreciated. Thanks very much in advance.

    Hi.
Yes, I have the same exact problem. Running pretty much same Vista 64-bit system. When I double click to run a mp4 file I keep getting that same error -43: file not found. The video plays fine through iTunes but won't run at all through Quicktime (outside of iTunes).
Hope someone can come up with an answer or Apple puts in fix.
For now I set iTunes to be the default program to open for this file type but would it rather have remained Quicktime.
Tried the uninstall and reinstall to latest Quicktime version but that didn't fix anything. Same problem....

  • Why doesn't my mp4 video play from an HTML5 Course?

I have an online course that consists of 6 slides.  4 of those slides are for delivering streaming video from a Flash Streaming Server. Per our LMS Solution Provider, I have modified the streaming path names so they point to the mp4 files on the streaming server.  I have the same online course that is published as HTML/SWF to SCORM2004.  That version of the course has the video place holders pointing to the same directories on the Flash Streaming Server, except the stream path/name points to the FLV video files.  That course plays just fine.  I have a Flash Streaming Server test tool from my LMS Provider that I can use to test the mp4 video files to ensure they stream properly.  I have tested the stream names that point to the mp4 files using that tool and the video file stream just fine.  When I launch the same course from our LMS using the content that was published in Captivate 6 as HTML5 to AICC specs, the course launches but the mp4 video files do not play. Keep in mind that they are set to stream and not download.  I can advance thru the slides using a playbar, but the video will not play.  Is anyone else having this kind of problem? Any ideas on where I can look?

I have tried Google Chrome ver. 26.0.1410.43 m.  I have also tried in IE 9. It is my understanding that these are HTML5 compliant.  Since posting this question, I saw some additional information in a different area of the Adobe Forums that suggests that it is not possible to stream MP4 Video from an Adobe Captivate 6 course that is published to HTML5. It was not real clear in the way it was stated, but it seemed to imply that you can embed MP4 video but you cannot stream MP4 video using RTMP from a Flash Streaming Server.  I am now trying to get someone to confirm that statement from the Adobe Captivate 6 Team. I assume that the Captivate 6 Team monitors this forum.

  • MP4 video

Why can't I use my ipad2 without having to connect to a computer?  I purchased a MP4 video but I can't download and view it because my old laptop lost it's Internet capability, so I can't sync it.  Suggestions?

mediacoder.sourceforge.net (Windows/ Mac or Linux with WINE)
Once you've worked out the interface, it's good... plus it's open source.
(top icons) Add... find file copied from phone
[Output] output folder  to desktop, etc
[Audio] tick enable audio and copy audio (or resample if it doesn't work)... you can convert from AAC to MP3 (use Lame option)
[Video] select your format, container and quality (e.g. XVID in an AVI container, 80pc quality)
[Picture] frame rate = original; rotation 90 degrees CW (or whatever)
    (top icons) Start
If it doesn't work first time, try tweaking settings a bit (e.g. sometimes you need to resample audio rather than just copy it).

  • MP4 Videos on Touch

Hi, I have just purchased an iPod Touch v2 and I tried placing my MP4 videos onto it and it says cannot sync because my iPod cannot play this file...
I do have a work around which is converting them using Videora from MP4 to iPod MP4(?)
But this is very time consuming and was under the impression that you could just drop any MP4 onto the touch and plays it in a compressed screen resolution.
For example, iTunes recognizes this MP4 and plays it but refuses to put it onto the iPod: http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/2338/44wa1.jpg
Just curious if this is natural and you have to do lengthy conversions to play videos on the iPod Touch or I'm doing something wrong?
    Thanks!

    Hi Lyenyo,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
For a start, the resolution on that video is too high, it should be 640x480 max as detailed in the "Tech Specs"
H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Looks like you may have to do some conversion, they do take a while but it depends on the power of your computer.
