QT 7.6 undocumented: Canon 5D Mark II movies

+Apple released Quicktime 7.6 today, which "includes changes that increase reliability, improve compatibility and enhance security." Sweet. Undocumentedly, it also changes how Quicktime movies made with the Canon 5D Mark II are decoded—for the better.+
+*image on site+
+Above is the same 5D clip I wrote about yesterday, back in Color, with Grade Disabled. The clipping is gone. Unlike yesterday, now the waveform is contained entirely between zero and 100 IRE. You'll see this as well in *Final Cut* and any applications that use Quicktime to decode the 5D movies, such as *After Effects*.+
+*image on site+
+Yay! Problem solved, I guess. This is a scary thing for Apple not to document in an update though, because it will radically change the appearance any 5D clips you're already working with. So update with caution, especially if you're in the middle of a project.+

Thanks for posting the link!
Good news all round then!

  • Canon 5D Mark II .mov file corrupt Need help

I have one file captured during a video session that I cannot copy, edit without locking the entire computer and having to hard start the machine. I need this file to finish editing a job. All the other files from this session work flawlessly with this one exception. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cant cut, paste, delete, save as, export, any function without crashing. When I try to export or save as it stops at a certain point and freezes the maching. Export not responding, save as not responding. Then I have to restart

It is because your 5D Mark II files are sRAW images, not raw. (The full 5D Mark II raw files are usually over 20 MB, not ~8 MB.) When you process sRAW files into DNG files, the DNG files are stored in the "linear DNG" format, which is much bigger than the sRAW format.
p.s., these questions should be directed to the Camera Raw, Lightroom, or DNG forums in the future to get a faster reply.

  • Canon 5D Mark II

I am trying to edit RAW footage from the Canon 5D Mark II with FCE. In original form, the footage is H.264, mov. This format needs a serious amount of time to render with every placement and change on the timeline. This is not conducive to editing and I was wondering if there was any format that it could be converted to that would not require rendering. I have tried converting it to AIC, mov but it still requires render and the loss in quality well outweighs the shorter render time. Any suggestions other than buying FCP which is not in the budget right now?

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Obviously, you've had problem on conversion to AIC as this is a editing format opposed as h.264 who is a delivery one. AIC is supported natively in FCE.
Did you try to convert with MPEG STREAMCLIP (www.squared5.com) to the correct AIC (with the right frame size, frame rate, audio codec)? Did you select the correspondent preset in FCE easy setup dialog?
Look at this link and see a Canon 5D Mark II movie edited with FCE:

  • FYI - 5D Mark II movies on iPad

    Hi all...
Just thought I'd provide a tip to getting your Canon 5D Mark II movie files (the files as they were recorded straight off the camera) onto your iPad as quickly (and hopefully painlessly) as possible.
    1. Do as normal and offload the files onto your Mac (this may work with PC too, but I'm 100% Mac now, sorry PC!)
    2. Get a recent nightly build of Handbrake (post 0.94 release).
    3. In Handbrake, I created a new setting called iPad, based off of the existing High setting. I changed the resolution to max dimension of 1024 (no point in creating larger than necessary files).
    4. Select the directory where you imported all of your camera movie files by clicking Source.
    5. Handbrake will chug along for a while, scanning that directory, and every movie file in it. It may take a couple of minutes.
    6. Once it's done, you can now queue up each file very quickly by selecting the title from the drop down below the source button. Just make sure your iPad setting is selected in the panel on the right. (it shouldn't change as you select each movie).
    7. Go make a cup of your favorite brew, sit back, and relax - this will take a lot longer than step 5. (I do this processing overnight usually).
    8. When done, import the newly created files into iTunes.
    9. Plug in your iPad, and under the Movies tab, select your movies.
    10. Sync.
    11. Enjoy!
If for some reason this is a duplicate of another post here, please forgive me and merge this thread with that one (or just disregard this thread). Good luck, and please follow up here with any corrections / refinements!

I am having some huge problems with my colorspace settings. Every time I upload my raw files from my Canon 5D mark II or 6D the pics are perfect in color. That includes the back of my camera, the pic viewer on my macbook pro, and previews. They even look normal when I first open them in photoshop. I will edit, save, and then realize once i've sent it to myself to test the color is WAY off. This only happens in photoshop. I've read some forums and have tried different things, but it seems to be making it worse. PLEASE HELP! Even viewing the saved image on the mac's pic viewer is way off once i've edited in photoshop. I am having to adjust all my colors by emailing myself to test. Its just getting ridiculous.

Check the color space in camera raw, the options are in the link at the bottom of the dialog box. Then when saving make sure you save it to the srgb color space when sending to others. Not all programs understand color space and or will default to srgb. That won't necessarily mean it will be accurate, but it will put it in the ballpark. Using save for web will use the srgb color space.

  • I have a new canon d7 mark ii and I can not get the raw picture to download in lightroom 6.  Lightroom says it does not recognize the raw format.  Is there a solution?

Lightroom 6 will not open raw files from my new canon d7 mark II camera.  The program says "The files are not recognized by the raw format supported in Lightroom.  The Lightroom 6 is up to date.  Is there a quick fix to this issue?

  • Does PSE11 show HDR exif data for a Canon 5D Mark III?

I have taken some pictures with the HDR feature on my Canon 5D Mark III. The HDR image that the camera creates does not show that it was created using the camera's HDR feature when viewed with PSE11. The Canon Software that came with my camera is ImageBrowserEX 1.4.0 and it shows these data: HDR Shooting Enable, Adjust dynamic range +-2, HDR Effect Natural, Auto Image Align Enable. Is there a way to show the HDR exif in PSE11? Thanks, Anne

Thanks -- I should have mentioned in my original question that I had already looked at File>Info. The usual stuff is there but nothing about the image being created from the HDR camera function, or at least that I could see. I went through all the tabs including Advanced and just don't see it. I will try to figure out how to ask Adobe Technical Support and how to request that they get that info included if it's not there. Anne

  • When will finder show a thumbnail or preview of the raw file images from the Canon 5d mark iii?

I am wondering if anyone has an update on when finder will show a thumbnail for the raw files from the Canon 5d mark III? I've done all the updates possible and nothing has changed, I can't do a quick preview either, it just shows the extension image, not the actual image taken. (The symbol for crw).

I had the same problem for a Canon EOS-1D X and finally got around it by viewing the images in Adobe Bridge. Worked beautifully!

The program used to import and transcode the Can 5D footage but no longer does.   The program freezes often and looses my projects as well.  Hard to make a living when your editing program is on strike!

  • Photoshop CS 4 plug in for Canon D5 Mark 2?

    Hello,
sorry to ask maybe this basic question, but I am really desperate.
I got RAW fotos from a friend and I cannot open them, she has a canon 5D mark 2..
I do have an old Canon 5D myself and they are fine.
Where can I download the plug in that I need for these fotos?
And where do I have to put the plug in on my MAC?
I tried it already, downloaded several plug ins but the I cannot find the path that is suggested on internet...
t says I have to put it in :
    4. Navigate to: c:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS3\File Formats
But after "ADOBE" there is NO "plug ins"...
    Anyone who can help, please?
    Heike

Are you asking how to write such a plugin?
If you're just looking for support in ACR, then you need to post in the ACR forum, not the Developers Kit forum.

  • Images from Canon 7D mark 2 will not open in Photoshop CS6

Images from Canon 7D mark 2 will not open in Photoshop CS6

    Hi Ferdinand12345,
Cannon 7D mark II has been included in the ACR 8.7. I would advise you to wait for the 8.7 camera raw to release.
In the meanwhile you can go to labs.adobe.com and download the 8.7 DNG converter and convert the files to DNG and then try to import.
    Thanks

  • Camera Raw 7 does not recognize Canon 5D Mark III RAW files

    Hello,
I have Adobe Creative Cloud installed and I use Adobe Photoshop CS6 with Camera Raw 7. Photoshop nur Bridge CS6 do not recognize the RAW files from the Canon 5D Mark III, though it says on the Adobe support site that the camera is supported since Camera Raw 6.7
When I try to open the .cr2-File I get the message "Photoshop cannot open the file".
    I use Win7 (64 Bit).
    Any help?
    Thanks in advance,
    Robert

    Hi Robert,
Its a known issue as the PS CS 6 was launched with ACR 7 however the support in Photoshop CS 6 would come with ACR 7.1 update which will be live soon.
You are completely right in saying that Canon 5D Mark III was supported in ACR 6.7 but it was only intended for >PS CS 5 & 5.1.
In the meanwhile if you want you can download the RC version of ACR 7.1 from labs.adobe.com.
    Thanks

  • Not able to open raw files from my CAnon 5D mark III in PS CS6!

I have camera raw 8.6 installed and am running photoshop cs 6.0.  All of a suddened photoshop will not open raw pictures that were shot on a CAnon 5D mark III.  Any ideas on what could be the problem.  The pictures do open in light room.
    Thanks

What exactly happens when you try to open raw files from Canon 5D Mark III in PS CS6. Do you get any error message? An error screenshot would help.
Make sure your PS CS6 is up-to-date from Help > Updates.
    Restart the machine and retry.
