QT 7 "Movie cannot be opened" OSStatus error -1409

QT 7.6.4 will not play DVD's, commercial or otherwise. The AV controls are greyed out. I have installed Flip4Mac, Perian and DivX and have restored the authorisations using the Disk Utility.
Have the latest versions of iTunes and Quicktime.
Any suggestions for resolving this?

QuickTime Player isn't designed to play DVD's.
Use DVD Player to view them.

Since upgrading Windows server 2008 R2 to Server 2012 Standard edition, we get this repetitious critical error in the event log:

The NLS operation failed because the registry key Control Panel\International\User Profile cannot be opened. Error code is 2. Error message: The system cannot find the file specified.
We originally found that the regional date settings after changing them in regional settings (DD/MM/YYYY) and they did not inherit properly from the upgrade but they are ok now.
I've looked at HKCU\.Default\Control Panel\International and nothing looks obviously wrong. Country codes, time & date formats are correct.
How do we ascertain the cause of this error and the specific registry key that might be problematic?

I would try uninstalling IE9 as shown in the link below.

When this has completed and you've restarted the PC, see if you can now print. If everything works Ok, try reinstalling IE9 with your Security Software temporarily turned off during the installation.

Data Object cannot be opened / accessed error - help required

I am running a CR 2008 and have a report set against a SQL view linked via a ODBC link. The view however has been updated and now includes an extra field, which I need to add into my report.
When I use the Set Database Location to update the link I get an error message advising "Data Object cannot be opened/accessed". I click OK to this and then get a further error "Unknown Database Connector Error".
Also, when I go to refresh the report I get this error "The database table "..." cannot be found. Proceed to remove this table from the report?" - if I click no the report refreshes correctly anyway, so it must be able to connect.
I have also tried refreshing the fields in field explorer too, but the extra field doesnt appear.
Any help would be gratefully received.

I can connect to the view via a new blank report and the missing field appears. However when I go to verify database it says the database cannot be found. It asks me if I want to remove it from the report, I select No then it tells me the database is uptodate.
Via the set database location it gives me the error in the initial post.
I think I have a workaround in that if I add a new database table to the same sql view the extra field is in there - so I will manually have to go though the report and change each formula, running total, group, and record selection from the original to the new table, then remove the old table.
Frustrating but it does appear to work.

It means that the orignal video file is missing which is not good news. How was the file placed on the backup hard drive? Can you select the file on the EHD and play it with Quicktime Player? That will tell you if the backup is a good backup.

Try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ directory and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

Have you tried quitting Numbers, then opening the app again?
Also, you could try shutting down your Mac and restarting.
If, after doing that, you still have problems, but only with one document, then that document may have become corrupted. In that case you could go back in time in Time Machine and "restore."
If you're saving your documents in iCloud you can still do a Time Machine restore at Library > Mobile Documents > com~apple~Numbers. (To get there hold down the option key in Finder and choose Go from the menu).

Sounds like you created a "Reference" file here. I.e., a "Reference" file is a file that tells the player how to play the data contained in a "Resource" file. When you try to open the "Reference" file in the QT Player app, the first thing the player does is check to see if the "Resource" data file is is still available where it is supposed to be. (I.e., moving/deleting the resource file or moving reference file without moving the resource file to maintain the relative path between the two will generate the error message you mentioned.)

That depends. Deleting a file does not actually erase the data immediately. Instead, the operating system just tells the system directory that the space containing the movie data is available for reuse if/when needed. As time passes, the chance that some of the data sectors will be re-written by other data continuously increases. To restore the file normally requires use of a special utility that both locates and restores all of the linked sectors containing the "deleted" movie data in their correct order. Other methods of restoring files would depend on the software you routinely have active on your system. For instance, do you use "TimeMachine?" or orther software that automatically backs up your data periodically? If so, then follow the instructions for your particular application to recover a deleted file.

After an earlier attempt to move Logic from my other mac (OSX 10.6.8) with the migration assistant to my new mac with OSX 10.8.2. I've re-started the whole start up process by erasing the hard drive from the new machine and build it up from scratch. After a new "out of the box" start, I decided to install LOGIC from my disks : starting with my 2007 package Logic Studio 8 and upgrading with my Logic 9 package from 2009. When trying to start to install 2008 I got the error message : Logic Studio.mpkg cannot be opened as the power pc programs are no longer supported.
What does this mean? HOw do I get this working under 10.8.2 as it works flawlessly under OSX 10.6.8. For sure I didn't buy a new machine to have OSX 10.8.2 but I suspect this is the roadblock to installing my logic package.

I completely lost the thread (I actually got confused between you and another poster on a another forum that was asking the same basic question) and somehow ended up thinking you were trying to install on a PPC Mac
My apologies and please ingnore those parts of my last post relating to the PPC Macs...
You have an Intel Mac and therefore Logic Studio 2 Boxed Upgrade set should install/run on your Mac without issue. As I said earlier.. you do not need to try and install from the original Logic Studio 1 /Logic 8 Boxed set...(It won't work anyhow because you have an Intel Mac and that version had a PPC installer) but just install from the Logic Studio 2 / Logic Pro 9 Upgrade Boxed setof DVDs instead...
Have you tried the "Make Disk Image" solution I gave earlier? That normnally works under such circumstances as what you are describing can happen when your DVD drive cannot read the DVDs correctly... I have had this situation myself where one drive read them okay and another failed to do so for whatever reason. Making and then installing from Disk images of those exact same disks resolved the issue for me...
You can try to reinstall directly from the DVDs of course though under some circumstances it may not allow you to reinstall Logic Pro itself if that part of the original installation attempt was successful... in which case you can also try this... (It's probably the easiest method if Logic 9 was already installed and present in your Apps Folder)
If the Logic Pro App is in your applications folder..
Run Software Updates to update Logic Pro to a version that will run under 10.8.2 (The initially installed version of Logic will not)
Run Logic
Go to the menu bar in Logic and select Logic Pro/Install Additional Content and select all content in there..
This content is basically exactly the same as what is stored on the remaining DVDs of the boxed set so you might not need to use the rest of the DVDs to install from but download it all instead from Apple Servers...

In addition to what Larry said, there is a number of levels you can try for general issues, described in the following list. 1) and 2) are the easy ones, 3) is the basic preference file (irreversible procedure), 4) is the whole preferences folder (reversible and more thorough, needed for some issues), 6) is the full ultimate solution, 5) can be skipped in this case.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media, see below. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:

5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);

There are a couple things that I would recommend trying. Try closing all open applications and power cycle the device. Next, go through the section labeled Troubleshoot issues on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in the second article below. Error: File "x.avi" cannot be opened (86::1)

I've started using a new camera to record some footage and it saves videos in an .avi format with the H.264 codec.
Everytime I try to import footage from the camera I get an error message saying 'After Effects error: File "X.avi" cannot be opened, it may be in an unsupported format ( 86::1 ).
I use After Effects CC and this problem has never occured before. I have tried videos with both 1920x1080 and 1280x720 resolutions and the error still comes up. Converting the footage to another format works but slightly lowers the frame rate and sometimes messes up audio.
Please Help
