QT and .wmv files

How come I can open a windows media file in QT but it will only playback 15 seconds of a 30 second spot?
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
ceej

We don't have Flip4Mac.Microsoft, the originator of WMV has has abandoned this format so you basically have three options:
1) You use the Flip4Mac component which is current and officially sanctioned by Microsoft.
2) You can try to find a third-party component which is not officially supported but may (or may not) work.
3) Or, you can continue to use the demo mode of what I assume is the old Microsoft software and continue to complain about the restricted output,

  • How do you play MPG and WMV files on a MAC?

I am no longer able to play MPG and WMV files on my MAC. I have Flip4MAC, which is I think what I used to use to play them (but not sure). All I know is that I used to be able to before but now they won't play. Do I need some sort of different software or has Microsoft started making these files in a way that won't allow MAC users to play them? If anyone is kind enough to help, please explain in the most basic terms as I'm not that computer literate.

If the .mpg/.mpeg files are non-rights-protected you should be able to play them in Quicktime or iTunes. If the wmv files are non-rights-protected you should be able to use Flip4Mac. If the mpg/mpeg or wmv files are rights-protected you'll need the software or subscription that allows you to view copyrighted files.

  • Viewing avi and wmv files with QT 10.1 and OS 10.7.4

In the last couple days, I think since I installed the last upgrade in the OS, my QT is 'unable to complete the process' of opening wmv files.
Months ago, I think after I upgraded to Lion, QT stopped allowing me to view avi files.  The file opens, and I can scroll through the content, but to 'play' button doesn't work.  I can still view those files using DivX Player 8.2.2.
These are all files that used to work just fine with QT.  Is there anything I can do to restore this functionality to QT?

Use only QT 7 for those.
Download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac and operating system, of:
Flip4Mac WMV Player from  http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm  (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from  http://perian.org/
You should read this support page  http://perian.org/#support   in case you need to delete older codecs.  In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them), particularly any DivX extension to Safari. However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from  http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac

  • Why can't I open pps and wmv files sent by email!

Many friends send photos and/or files with pps and wmv designations. Windows continually rejects them with the message that it is unable to open them.
    How can I fix this?

I don't know. What exactly happens? (Exactly - including all error messages in full please) What is your computer (e.g. Windows 7), browser, and email program?

  • BEFW11S4 and WMV files

Why does the internet connection get knocked out when viewing WMV files on the internet?
    ajwees41

Could be due to a couple of things:
► firmware issue (can be fixed by updating your routers firmware)
► MTU is wrong ( setting your MTU value to manual and 1450 should do the trick)
Although this could be due to several other factors... like how do you view these files? Wired or wirelessly through the router? Does this happen on all your computers or on just one computer?

  • Can I transfer Mpeg and wmv files to my Ipad and how do I do it?

Just wondering if you can do this

Yes, you can transfer your mpeg or wmv files to you iPad, but they can not be played in iPad, as they are not supported with iPad. So to play them in iPad normally, you should first convert your mpeg or wmv files to mp4, mov, or avi, then transfer the converted mp4(mov, avi) file to your iPad.
What you need is a video converter, and there are many ones on App store or Google.  And I just got Total Video Converter, it depends on your demands.

  • Opening gif and wmv files

I have received emails with attachments in gif and wmv formats that will not open. Yet on my old iMac running 10.3 there is no problem, they open automatically. On wmv format get message OSStatus error -50. My Quick Time Player (v. 7.3.1) implies that I have to buy the program. I thought that when buying the iMac 20" with Leopard installed I would have all applications included. Any suggestions?

For WMV content you'll need the free
    Flip4Mac
(Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported)
For other stuff, here's the list I found to be helpful:
    VLC
    Real Player
    Perian
    Adobe Flash
    Streamclip

  • 6630 and .wmv files

My 6630 won't play .wmv files. How can I remedy this?

I don't think many (if any) Sony Ericsson phones play WMV (Microsoft Windows Media Vido) format files (so no instant gratification that way, either).
You could try a video converter app like SUPER from eRightSoft: http://www.erightsoft.com

    Try VLC media player

  • FLIP AVI and WMV files

FLIP is a new tiny pocket camcorder that produces good 640x480. It has software that places its videos on your computer as WMV or AVI files. The latter will not open in Premiere Elements 7, although earlier avi's did. What am I doing wrong? I believe the WMVs will open but am not sure. Does anybody have experience with Flip?
    Edwin M

AVI is but a wrapper. It can contain all sorts of CODEC's. I recommend G-Spot (www.headbands.com/gspot) to see what is inside. Maybe some users of Flip can tell you, but G-Spot is invaluable.

  • Using a .WMV file in DVD Studio Pro

    Hello All,
I'm so dangerously close to having this whole thing down, that the challenges are becoming excrutiatingly painful.
    I've completed my edit.
I've exported my FCP edit to Quicktime.
    I've downloaded Flip4Mac
I've exported a version of the FCP to a WMV file format.
Now I want to import both assets (QT and WMV) to DVD Studio Pro. I'm trying to make it so there are two seperate versions on the DVD.
As I attempt to link a button to the WMV file, I get the rainbow wheel turning, and it never stops.
So, I guess there are a few questions:
    1. How can I force the rainbow wheel to quit. Until now, I've just shutoff the computer (not a good idea).
    2. Is it possible to combine the QT and WMV files on the same DVD?
    3. Am I totally confused?
    Thanks.
    DG

    Hi
She can't play it on her PC, nor can I at home.
Ussually it's a DVD player software matter. Windows Media Player is not intended for DVD playing. Did you use it when it failed? Try with the free and cross plataform VLC Player.

  • I have adobe premiere elements 12 can not open wmv file made in windows 8 ?

    wmv file not recognized

    tikkadog
From what I have read that Life Frame offers .avi, .asf, and .wmv files. Those are just file extensions. The video compression and audio compression of the file are the first things to define.
If you cannot find that information in your User Guide, then please put the problem video file through the gpsot utility to find out
    Video (Name, Codec, and Status)
    and
    Audio (Name, Codec, and Status).
    http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
and whatever other information you can find there, example, frame size, frame rate, etc.
You could also try recording to .avi instead of .wmv, but there again we would be up against the video and audio compression used.
Let us see what file information you can put together so that you can try to resolve the issue.
We will be watching for your results.
    Thank you.

  • Flip4Mac (WMV Files? --- iMovie?)

I know Flip4Mac allows WMV files to play in quicktime, but can you export them into iMovie as another file type?
How can I take a WMV movie and edit it using iMovie? or Is it not possible? (Remember I'm new at this....)
    -Thanks

Any help I can get with WMV files would be appreciated. This topic just really confuses me and the more that I read the more I seem to confuse myself.
Heres the main problem: The place that I am making a highlight film uses a PC and they do all their editing on it... I am starting to do more of the editing and I need to learn what my options are with my mac and wmv files.
When I attempt to open up [in quicktime on my macbook pro] the highlight film that was done on the PC, the files show up as: VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB... ? ---> Is there anyway to edit [using imovie] these files on my macbook pro? Do I need to save them a special way onto the disk from my PC? Is there software that I can buy to help me?
Remember that I'm new to this... Please don't give me a complicated answer...
