QT DEAD ON SAFARI?

help!
i 've just installed my brand new mac pro. everything work ok ....except QT.
the problem is the following:
when i go to the internet with safari (or firefox, or explorer), all photos and videos in QT have a pale gray QT symbol with a red cross on it. can't read them, can't open them....
can anyone help...? (i've already thrown the preferences and re-installed...)
thanks in advance!

Which version of QuickTime? If it's not the latest then Safari would need to be set to use Rosetta. If it's the latest then setting it to Rosetta may show the problem you're seeing, so set it to Universal. You set that in the Get Info dialog.

  • Image with link functions in Firefox, half of the image/link is active in Chrome, image/link dead in Safari

I have a page with 2 nav links originating from 2 different images. 1 image / link works well with Firefox, Chrome and Safari. The other image / link works well with firefox, only half of the image is active in Chrome and none of the image is active in safari. The documents links checkout fine. I have replaced the image, the container as well as relinked. The result is the same. Can someone help please? Here is a link to my site (in progress) PikiPiks: film reviews Only the first 2 images in the left column are currently linked. The first image / link for "Kiki's Delivery Service" is the problematic one.  Thanks! MacOS 10.9 / Dreamweaver CS6

I won't even talk about the liberal usage of absolute positioning -- none of which is needed.  You'll soon learn  that this is not the way to build web pages when this comes back to bite you in the butt.  It almost looks like this layout was created in another program.  Was it?
#1 On the web file names cannot contain special characters like apostrophes. <a href="Kiki'sDeliveryService.html"> is not a valid file name.  You need to rename without the apostrophe.
#2 This link is pointing to a file on your local hard drive which nobody except you can see.
<a href="file:///CARBUNKLE/Users/jev/Sites/WowAbout/index.html">  That path should be pointing to your site.

  • Been using Firefox for 3 years on my iMac (OS 6.8) but , when setting up new gmail acct, it went dead and no clicking anywhere gets response. How reset this??

I tried user: support but clicking didn't start anything. Firefox is there as is my list of bookmarks, but it is dead. Safari and even Netscape are fine. Would resetting work? I ask this because no clicking anywhere does anything at all.

Did Firefox lock up? Freeze, slow down? Did you close it?

  • Safari (only?) errors with Apple Discussion Pages

I have been having connection problems with my ISP -- intermittent inability to load web pages or Widget updates, etc., or just very slow loading. It is extremely intermittent: over the space of an hour or two it can go from full speed cable to near zero to flat out dead.
Complicating things greatly is that sometimes, during the slow-but-not-dead periods, Safari refuses to load Apple Discussions pages at all, displaying error messages with or without an number number, but always saying the connection was lost. Sometimes this is after a minute or so of trying to load the page, which I attribute to the slowness of the connection, but other times it is immediate. When this happens, retry or going to another page with a link back to the first page & trying that continues to get the error immediately.
IOW, Safari won't even try to reload the page. I have tried emptying the cache, but it doesn't help. Other pages will load, but slowly.
At this point, I can get the page to load by copying the URL into Internet Explorer, so I know the page is available & the connection, although slow, is capable of sending the page to my computer.
Does anyone have an explanation for this behavior? Or better yet, a way to convince Safari to try to reload the page?

  • "Reopen all windows from last session" from an earlier session

Is it possible through some trick or hidden feature to restart Safari 5.0.6 and reopen all the windows from an earlier session than the last one?
I recently found a website that crashes Safari every time I visit it. I was runnng with about 16 windows open, but minimized, when i visited this site. I restarted, then visited it again (this was before I knew it was deadly to Safari) crashing Safari immediately. After restarting again, i can find no way to recover the 16 windows that had been open. Safari had been running for over a week when it when down taking the 16 windows with it.
My environment is Leopard 10.5.8 on a quad G5 with 12 Gb of RAM.
Any ideas will be most welcome.

    Try this first...
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Move the Cache.db (or ApplicationCache.db) file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash. Restart your Mac. Try Safari.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
If that doesn't help, post a crash report so we can find the underlying cause for Safari quitting unexpectedly.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash  information.
Copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.
i can find no way to recover the 16 windows that had been open
From your Safari menbu bar click History / Reopen All Windows from Last Session

  • Is there a way to boost Safari? Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Safari 5.1.7 is very slow, almost dead. Thank you.

Is there a way to boost Safari? I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Safari 5.1.7 which has become very slow, almost dead. Many thanks!

If Safari is getting very slow:
(Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
    and clear your History)
Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security, (including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here: http://www.opendns.com/home/nobloat ) and further independent information can be read here:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57338784-263/free-dnscrypt-tool-enhances-ma c-web-security/?tag=mncol;txt
    and here:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1146064/troubleshootdns.html?t=234
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2296
If your computer is part of a network:please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/best_practices/#your_network and follow the advice given.
If you use a Router, make sure it has the latest firmware installed.
One reason for a slowness in page loading may be the 'DNS Pre-fetching' feature of Safari 5.x as is described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408?viewlocale=en_US
You can cancel DNS pre-fetching by going to Terminal and typing:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
You have to restart Safari for it to take effect.
If Safari seems to hang for ages:
If you have a lot of tabs open and/or a lot of pages running Flash, Safari can sometimes 'hang', requiring a restart of Safari. This can often be inconvenient, and as it is rarely Safari itself that is hanging but merely one of its plug-ins, usually Flash, there is a way using Terminal to restart the plug-ins (without restarting Safari and losing your tabs) by quitting the WebPluginHost process:
Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type
    killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page.
Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The later versions of Flash 10.1 onwards appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.
For this and other reasons Apple switched their websites to HTML5 in January 2011:

Safari - When the Phone is horizontal I can't select the Add Bookmark or the Back button.

Please let me know how can I fixed or how can I change my iPhone, I'm working in McAllen Texas and the only Apple Store near to here is the one that is in San Antonio, so its like 3 hours driving, what can I do?

Prior to updating flash player, you must first uninstall all previous versions.  Make sure you are downloading from the proper Adobe website = Adobe Flash Player Software
    Flash Player Uninstaller
Repair permissions and restart your computer after the installations.

  • Dead Google Search Links in Safari

After making a Google search, I hit the 'back' button, only to find all of the links on the page frozen. This happens ALL the time in my Safari Google searches. Is anybody experiencing a similar issue?
    For example:
    1) I search "Martin Luther King" in Google (typing into the Google search box in the Safari toolbar).
    2) Google shows the search results.
    3) I click on an item to read it.
    4) After reading the article, I hit the 'back' button to return to my search.
    5) None of the search results are clickable. They're all dead. Not a single link on the page works. (Control-click does nothing, either)
This happens on a daily basis, with nearly all of my Google searches.
I have done many re-sets of Safari caches, etc. This incredibly frustrating problem continues.

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the errant extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its settings will revert to their defaults. If the extension still causes a problem, remove it permanently or refer to its developer for support.

  • Download items from Safari's Activity window DEAD OS X.7 Lion

Downloading items from Safari's (5.1) Activity window DEAD- Mac OS X.7 Lion
Aargghhh this was brilliant before for grabbing stuff and not working now,
all i get is a massive amount of text showing up and no download anymore.
Yup you can download an earlier version (5.0.6) but Lion will not swallow it
tried pacifist to open the old package but even that fails.
thought i could find it inside and run it.
    so....
    what now?
is there a way round this?
    a third party plug in!
    something?
anyone got any idea how to sort this out?
so i can grab filmclips pictures etc...
    just like before.

I thought I was the only person who was grieving the loss of this feature. I used it mostly for downloading PDFs as preview handles them so much better than shoddy propriety viewers, or even the "preview in safari" mode. During my degree it was invaluable to me as it also let me save these files into folders and keep them for referencing later.
To further exlpain; it was one of the features which set Safari out from the rest. The activity window shows all the different elements of the website which are either being loaded or which have been downloaded. It will show elements of javascript, images, music, PDFs etc embedded in the page including videos and the like.
Within that activity window, you can also see (and copy!) the DIRECT LINK address of each element of the page. ie: Where the actual media files are being hosted, downloaded or streamed from. Certain sites disable this feature for protected works, as they are entitled to do so, but the vast majority allow it.
When we had a separate downloads window, instead of this overlay box in the Lion safari, it enabled the end user to copy the DIRECT LINK in the activity window using Ctrl + C and do the following:
    1) Either paste it into the address bar to watch/ listen to the media free from the other elements of the page which waste memory/ get in the way
    2) Paste it into the "Downloads" window (Using Ctrl + V) which would instantly start downloading the file, as if you had clicked a "Download file ABC Now" link on a web page.
With the loss of the download window, only option 1 is available. This means that only images and certain formats of video/ audio will be viewable off the website in question ie: ones that quicktime can play. And the current version of quicktime embedded within safari doesn't give you the option to "Download a copy" or "Save as" like older versions used to.
This may necessitate a revisiting of Firefox, which has a "Media browser" function.
I wonder if there is perhaps a bookmarklet out there which forces a download of whatever is dragged onto it. Any ideas?

  • Safari 5.1 Snow Leopard, dead windows

Safari 5.1 in Snow Leopard, some buggy behaviour:
    1.  Click on dock icon: no new window appears
File->New Window: now you get window, a dead, blank white one
Re-start Safari: now you get an active window, which is nice until:
    2. Sometimes when you finally get to a web site, all the links within are inactive, and of course the Bug reporter is dead. The window is just dead, dead, dead. Re-start Safari and somtimes it will behave for awhile.
    3. Cannot activate Private browsing
    4. Often will not work with Password Wallet; going to a website from within the application yields a cold, white dead window, though with the correct url in the address bar.

    I have this problem too.
    SL 10.6.8
First window seems to work fine.
New window doesn't display new one unless you then choose from window list.
New windows are "dead" - do not respond to any GUI action, butncan close window with keyboard.
    All Safari extensions turned off.
Another reason to move to Firefox or Chrome :-(
    Anyone have a solution?
    Thanks,
    Ashley.

  • Dead links when using Safari.

I first noticed dead links when trying to read "the Week in iOS Apps," on Macworld. I could go to the second view, but never past the second view. I solved the problem by switching to Firefox. the same thing happened on the Verizon wireless site when I tried to pay my bill.
Should i make Firefox my primary browser? I have a habit of using Safari. Dead links shouldn't be a problem.

You can try this. May help.
    Reset Safari.
Click Safari in the menu bar.
From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
Uncheck the boxes beside  all items.
Just check the box beside “Remove all website data”.
    Click "Reset".
    Empty Caches
    Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
Turn off Extensions if any, and launch Safari.
    Safari > Preferences > Extensions

    My Safari app. is dead.
Once I launch it it freezes witht the round colourfull thing going round and round ad round. The only way out is force quit. I re-installed the Application but the problem persist. I am not running any enhancers/hacks. Any help?

    Hi
There may be an incompatible 3rd party plug-in creating the hang (usually, the hang is due to cache corruption errors).
    Anything installed in these locations:
Either the HD>Library, or your User Account>Library: InputManagers folder or Applications Support>SIMBL>Plug-ins folder

  • It's not that the Flash plugin has crashed, it's that Firefox will not play the code written - IE9 does, Chrome does, Safari does - what's up with your Flash support - it's been brain dead for the last three releases - ever since v4 I think

Enter this url in any modern browser IE9 (I never would have believed that I would be complaining about Firfox not working and IE does! - it that how far you've gone down?), Chrome (no wonder people are switching to it in droves) and even Safari - and it plays, but not in Firefox v6.02 - it used to play fine when I first uploaded it back in July 2010 (v3.6 Firefox I think)

Hope you can fix this or I'll be having a big disclaimer on all of my site - does not work in Firefox. Never thought I would be saying this.
    Thanks. Craig.

I should test it on my wife's old Xp with v3.6 - too late tonight - will check tomorrow. Thanks for your help. Craig.
