QT giving an extra long timeline

When I open some recently imported .mov files I get an extra long timeline. The video clip is only two minutes long and plays completely - but the video either freezes on the last frame or plays a white frame for another 5 to 15 minutes.
I reinstalled my operating system but had no luck.
Quicktimes that used to play fine now have this problem. They also play this way in Adobe Premiere CS4.
These QT files were originally recorded on a Firestore 100 hard drive with a Panasonic HVX200 camera. The video is DVCPro HD footage. I'm on a Mac Pro - OS 10.5.2
Any help would be great.

You've stumbled across the fact that FCP doesn't act like a lot of other broadcast equipment - it's out point is in a different place - it's actually one frame back from where you think it might be.
Try backing up one frame, hitting out, and see if that makes more sense. There is a page in the manual that explains this much better than I can!

My cinema display won't work over a display port booster and extra long cable.

I have a Mac Pro (mid 2010) and an Apple Cinema Display 27". I also have two other DVI monitors. Recently I got a few extenders, so that I can have the computer in a different room to the monitors. Everything works perfectly except the Cinema Display. My system recognises that the cinema display is connected (as it shows as a display in preferences), but the screen is black.
The series of connections from computer to screen is: mini display port to display port adaptor, short display port cable, gefen display port booster, extra long display port cable, display port (female to female) coupler, display port to mini display port.
Please let me know if you have any ideas what the problem may be.

Per your advice to taking out the longest cable, I ran a couple of tests at different stages of the connection. Over a short conversion to displayport and back to mini display port, the monitor connected no problem. It was only when I introduced the "Display Port Booster" that I lost signal, over the short connection.
I think the unit might be faulty and this is the problem. I sent it back to the company that sold it to me and they're running tests now. Hopefully they will be able to fix it.

If bought directly from an Apple Retail store or Apple Online store, and is still within the 14 day return period Apple Offers you can take it back and get a full refund which you can then use towards buying the other version.
If its already past the 14 day period then you won't be able to return it for a refund no.
If you did not buy it from an Apple Retail store or Apple Online Store you will have to consult with the store you bought it from about their return policies.

As of today feb 15 i have been waiting for 78 days. Finland doesn't have an official apple store (only authorized resellers) It was my mistake because i should have bought from apple.com. But i think 2.5 months is too long and i have no information about when i can get it..

The low-end 15” rMBP with a 8 GB or RAM and a 256 GB SSD costs $2,000.
The low-end 15” rMBP with a 8 GB or RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs $2,300.
With 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD it costs $2,500.
The high-end 15” rMBP with a 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs $2,600.
All cost $500 dollars more with a 1 TB SSD.
So the SSD size is not a differentiating factor unless you prefer 256 GB.
If you think you need 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD then you might as well spend the extra $100 for the high-end model.
The high-end model will make a difference on gaming and graphics-oriented applications.
They tend to run other applications at about the same speed.
Both models are rated with 8 hours of battery life.

The speed was about 10% different between 8 GB and 16 GB models.

Audio-video offset in (extra) long movie recordings

Lately we are recording extra long movies with QuickTime (Mac OS X 10.4.x, QuickTime 7.0.x)
Typical movie recording durations are 2 to 15 hours.
Hereunder the applications we use to record the movies are listed:
* ChannelStorm (http://channelstorm.com/) Live Channel Pro 2.2.2 (Tiger edition)
* Apple QuickTime Player 7.0.x Pro ("new movie recording" option)
We tried a hole host of audio/video codec combinations but, for almost all of them, we got an acceptable audio-video offset (1 to 5 seconds) after the first hour of recording.
Offsets seem to increase roughly linearly with time. Most combinations give audio in advance with respect to video. The remaining combinations behave the other way round.
Anyone?

Extra long lightning to USB cord

Does anybody know when the extra long cords will be available? or if there are any out there now?

I suggest purchasing a USB extension cord. They are probably cheaper and are readily available.

If you're only looking for a longer charging cord, have you considered just buying an extenstion cord? Obviously, that won't work if you're connecting it to a computer but should do fine if you're using the power adapter.

Where is the best place to get a extra long power cord? The one that Apple supplies is just not long enough.

You have a regular AC power cord going from the electrical outlet to the white converter box. From the converter you have a cord attached that has a MagSafe connector on the end. Can you not just use a regular AC extension cord from the electrical outlet?

Problem with New Beat Mapping Feature in a long timeline

I'm trying to retime JUST a part of a long timeline which hase many film cues in it- I like to tap in a metronome over a rubato part and then just retime that section - In the old version of the tempo editor (i.e. the reclock song diaglog), one could usually select an option box that said "Only retime between left and right source" -
now, if I try a retime in the timeline using clicking the 'beats from region button' that section I'm working on retimes perfectely - here's the problem -
the rest of the tempo events in my sequence ALL get changed as well in seemingly odd proprtions - anybody have a clue what's up here??
I'm fearing a once powerful feature used by professionals has been 'dumbed down' - As least we should have the option of opening the old "reclock song' window with all of it's many more options if we want to work that way!

well the ugly discovery led to a workaround and what I would consider a bug in this new feature - I coped all of my tempo events up untill the rubato section I was working on, clicked the the "beats from region" button - (all of earlier tempo events disspeared). The problem seems to be it's trying to 'map' all of the previous 700 measures according to my guide sequence (i got an error message saying 'the corresponding tempo would be too low for this beat - i.e. it was trying to creat a quarter note temp that would cover all 700 bars in the timeline ---
then I pasted them back in and it still seems to line up - I'll send this to apple feedback and hope for a more powerful fix/update of the beat mapper-

Extra long lag with voice-over test questions

I have recently been using voice over on my courses and the test for learners who may not be able to read. I have noticed when I use audio on a test question and choose the correct answer and click "submit" there is a long lag on the slide after clicking. It could be anywhere from 5-25 seconds of a lag between questions. I am at a loss on this and it only happens when I use audio.

Maybe you are not aware of the fact that a question slide has a pausing point that is set by default at 1.5 secs. Look at the timeline: you'll see the pausing point as a vertical bar (not very visible on the blue timeline).
The two-step process for submitting is happening at that pausing point. After the second step (Press Y or...) the playhead will Continue if you keep the default actions for Success and After Last Attempt, which will mean that you'll have to wait till it reaches the end of the slide. Due to your VO the slide will have increased much in duration, original duration was 3 secs, which meant a waiting time of 1.5 secs after the pause. Now you'll have a much longer waiting time.
Two possible solutions:
Drag the pausing point more towards the end of the question slide (there is no other way than dragging)
Change the actions for Success and After Last Attempt to 'Go to Next Slide'. However sometimes this can cause an issue... depending on the deployment

Hey, every SMS program that runs on a standard computer (I mean rather than a tablet computer) that I've ever seen won't let us send SMS text messages to short codes--such as a radio station at 57500 or whatever. My phone can do it, so why not here? So Verizon, will you please upgrade it so that it will do that?
Also, the same question goes for international numbers (yes, the site would make our account pay for those, right?), where 011 and then a country code longer than 1 digit (like longer than our 1 here) are needed. Yes, messaging done on the Verizon site does not go against your allowance. The phone number you put in is so the recipient will know who it is from and can respond. If they respond to your phone number, and you get the text on your phone, that would be charged to your phone. I believe if you use a nickname, it will be sent to [email protected] and not go through your phone number.

Loading SWF giving Instance name as TimeLine

I'm Loading swf into a movieclip name main_mc. After
successfully loading it into main_mc. I had written a function to
get all children present in that movieclip(main_mc). It is getting

MainTimeLine] as instance3 or sometime instance10. How can i
control instance name of maintimeline as it is randomly getting its

you can't control the instance name of a main timeline. but
if you name everything else, the main timeline will be the only
object whose instance name starts with "instance".
