QT H.264 files with two audio tracks. Quicktime plays 2nd track first. ***?

I've been experimenting with H.264 (AVC) and my DVDs. Using Handbrake, I ripped a DVD to MP4 (H.264) and including the director's commentary as the second track.
When I play the MP4 with Quicktime Player, it plays the director's commentary instead of the main soundtrack. VLC, however, correctly plays the first track (main movie audio track) and it allows me to select the second track via a menu.
To get Quicktime to play the proper track, I have to open "Movie Properties" and manually uncheck the second track. This was never a problem with DivX/XviD encoded files with two audio tracks; Quicktime Player correctly played the first track.
Why does Quicktime ignore the first audio track in MP4s (but not AVIs) and is there a way to correct this?

I do have QT Pro.
H.264 files are usually saved in a MP4 container. That's what Handbrake, ffpegX, and D-Vision create, anyway.
The "Choose Language" option is greyed out (unavailable) when I open this H.264 MP4 in Quicktime. If I try to change the settings in "Movie Properties," it says that I must save it with the .MOV file suffix.
It makes no sense to me that Quicktime Player can correctly identify the main audio soundtrack in a XviD file with an AVI container but not in a H.264 video with a MP4 container which Apple has been touting as the latest, greatest thing. Even VLC, an open source product still in beta, gets it right.

  • Why video with two audio tracks imports like one track (main)?

Ok, lets face one simple thing that is incredibly stupid in Premiere CC:
    - I make video with two audio tracks (screencast with system sounds and microphone, separated)
    - Import it to Premiere CC and see only one audio track, system sounds!
    - What should I do to see both of them?
    - Why Sony Vegas don't make me to go to support forums and make them both visible without extra actoins?

    Great first post!

  • Seperating audio files with two simultaneous tracks

    hi,
we did some after recording, whereby we recorded a fresh dialogue track over the top of the original movie file, so we now have avi files with video and TWO audio tracks playing at the same time...
How do I go about separating the audio in Premiere CS2?
    Thanks heaps in advance!
    Leo

    hi again,
thanks for those quick replies John and Bill (yes i was wanting to take one of the audio tracks and kind of double-it-up, so that the re-recorded layer replaces the original layer and becomes stereo)...
I actually just found out how to do it... using your helpful "fill left" hints...
for anyone else who is looking to easily use just one audio file...:
just go to the sound effects panel and under the 'stereo' tab there's an option called 'fill left' and 'fill right'...
    just like you mentioned!
    thanks again so much!

  • Help importing WMV files with 4 audio tracks....

    Hello,
I am using a PC to run a robot show. The show runs off of WMV files recorded with 4 audio tracks.
The "front" audio tracks are the left and right chanels for sound.
The "rear" audio tracks are the signals the show runs off of.
(If you want to see the show... it's here http://www.yorkmiss.com/Curtains.wmv
I run the audio files using the windows media player and as you can see... it works fine.
However, I would like to use the I-tunes player since I can then controld the show remotely using my I-Touch.
The problem is that every time I import one of the audio file into I-tunes, it converts it to a new type of file that "blends" the front and rear chanels of audio together.
I've tried every different option in the import prefrences list - and they all have the same result.
Does anyone know a way of playing the files "as-is" without converting them, or is there a way of converting them I do not know about?
Here's an example of one of the files:

Any help or suggestions would be welcome and appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Beth

Yes, I understand that now... but is there a way to convert to those file types while still preserving the 4 seperate audio chanels?
    Thanks, Beth

  • How to burn a DVD with two audio track?

There is a projet with the original video and a second audio track with music. I want to burn a DVD with both audio tracks. When playing the DVD you should be able to select audio track 1 (the original sound) or audio track 2 (the music). With Adobe Encore DVD it was easy to configure the two audio tracks and burn the DVD. It is posible to do the same from Adobe Premier Elements 11?
    Thanks,
    Jordi

    Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, PrE does not allow for supplemental Audio Tracks, when authoring.
I use Adobe Encore for this, but it is only available bundled with Premiere Pro. I do not know if some other, third party, full-featured authoring apps., like Sony's DVD Architect can do that, but I would suspect that they can. The specifications for DVD Architect should have that information, and as it's quite common in full-featured authoring apps., I anticipate that it has that capability.
If you do go with that program, our MOD, Steve Grisetti, has written a very good book on DVD Architect, and it's available at Muvipix.com.
    Good luck,

  • .avi movie with two audio tracks but QT only shows one

I have a .avi file. When I play it in the VLC Player I can choose between two different audio tracks (two different language tracks) but when I open the same file in QT I only get one track and of course it is the language I don't speak. Is there a way to get into this file and delete the track with the language I don't want so that when I open it in QT it plays the right track/language?
If you need more info please let me know.
    thanks

  • .ts-files with multiple audio tracks / Premiere Elements 12

    Hello forum,
once more I need a little help please.
I've created successfully a few DVD's, and by now I'm a master in creating my own menue templates , but now I have again some problems.
I imported a .ts file which I recorded on my Sat Receiver. This file contains a video track and 2 audio tracks:
    1. German 6-channel AC3,
    2. English 2-channel AC3 (I can add a screenshot of the file info's if needed).
Now my problem is that I only hear some kind of background sound, music and so on, no voices. So not really one of the tracks I mentioned above.
The file works good when I play them with VLC player, and I'm able to chose the 2 languages there.
What I don't really understand is, I created several DVD's with exactly the same file type, I mean the file info's are identical except the lenght differs for a few minutes.
Is there a way to chose the audio track in Premiere Elements like I can chose it in VLC player? Or is there another way to bring the voices in there?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jessie
My system is a Macbook Pro, 16 GB RAM, 2.5 Ghz, Premiere Elements 12

    Hi ATR,
yes, that's what I meant. It worked without problems with a lot of files in different projects. I made a few screenshots, maybe they help to get it fixed.
This is the file that worked fine:
And this is the one that doesn't work:
By now I haven't changed anything in the settings as I don't know what I could change.
The files that worked came out with the german soundtrack, so I assume 5.1 channel.
I'm really out of ideas now :/

  • Exporting QT file with multiple audio tracks

I'm trying to create a digibeta tape of my movie. The company who does it wanted a QuickTime file with the movie where there were 2 audio tracks (4 in sterio). One with the music and sound effects and another with narration and interviews. I'm not sure if this is possible or where to set the option for this. Can anyone help?

Command+0 (zero) to bring up Sequence Settings, go to the Audio Outputs tab and change the Outputs to 4 whilst keeping the Grouping as Stereo.
Back on the timeline, ensure your audio media is on the correct audio track for export, eg, all music on 7&8 , 9&10, VO on 5 and/or 6 , etc etc. Basically, keeping an organised timeline without spreading audio over random tracks really helps.
Ensure the audio tracks are assigned to the correct channels. To do this, on the timeline you see the 'destination buttons' A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6 etc etc... next to each button is a padlock, then you have the Toggle Auto Select icon. Control-click on this icon and you'll see the Audio Outputs setting, which shows which stereo pair that particular track is assigned to. In this case, you'll want to assign Music and Effects to 3&4, whilst keeping narration and interviews on 1&2.
    Export Quicktime Movie.

  • No audio on files with multiple audio tracks

All my files that have multiple audio tracks (e.g. stereo and surround) no longer have audio when I initially start up my Apple TV 2. When I manually change the audio track in the menu (from stereo to surround or vice versa), I get the sound back but I would have to do this with every single file and do this each time I start up my Apple TV. Anyone else notice this problem. This only started happening after the most recent update.

  • Quicktime file with corrected audio track not working with iWeb Gallery

    Hello Everyone,
I shot a video and accidentally recorded on one audio track only (posted in another post). I've fixed the audio in Quicktime Pro by selecting the audio track (track 1) onto track 2 and hence I've got "fake" stereo or mono audio. The QuickTime file plays perfectly on my desktop. The audio is coming through both channels, as well.
Now, my problem is that when I've tried to upload the file to my iLife '08 iWeb site, the audio is back to one channel again. The video plays beautifully, however. I even uploaded the QuickTime file to my iDisk and from there to my web gallery through iLife '06. Still, the audio is only coming through on one track.
Hmm, is there a setting in QuickTime Pro that I might have missed after I "fixed" the audio? Like I said, the file plays perfectly on my desktop. I've even burned the file to DVD and it plays perfectly on my home DVD player. Somehow along the upload process the 2nd audio track is dropped. Any advice is very much appreciated.
    Frustrated in Texas,
    -Jack

    Hello QuickTimeKirk,
Thanks for all of your advice and to the others who have chimed in with their input. My audio problem is solved. The problem with one of the audio tracks getting dropped once the QuickTime file was uploaded to my Web Gallery has been fixed. I had to re-export the original QuickTime File and somehow the tracks corrected themselves. I believe they were canceling themselves out the first time. Weird.
Now, however, I see that I'm getting the blue Quicktime symbol when I open the URL. It takes about a minute (at least with my cable connection) for the poster frame to show up. I did flatten the file and have it set to play automatically. See what you get on your end: http://web.mac.com/honeybear7/Site/Movie.html if you don't mind. This is just a test page, so this is not the final presentation. The window size of the movie, however, is set.
What is the best possible setting I can have the file set on for it to play the quickest? I know much of it is dependent on the connection speed. This also is not a small file. It's 214 Mb, but it's a 40 minute movie and looks okay on the web. Having burned it on DVD as a 2.9 gig file it, of course, looks much better with no blocking. I originally shot it with an HD Canon camera.
Any more advice is greatly appreciated. Have a great weekend.

  • Is MOV file with mp2 audio tracks compatible with QT player?

    Hi,
I export multiple .mov files with certain video stream and mpeg layer 2 audio stream inside, using MPEG Streamclip/VLC/FFMpegX. However it turns out that the sound part is not playbak correctly inside QT player. Is QT player not supposed to playback this kind of file? BTW, I'm on OSX 10.7.3, Quicktime player is version 10.1.

Many possible answers here. Since you did not indicated the video compression format, my only recomendation would be to try playback in the QT 7 Player for your specific combination of video, audio, and file container. For instance, "muxed" MPEG-2/MP2 data in an MPEG, MPG, or MOV file container will play correctly in the QT 7 Player. On the other hand, the MPEG and and MPG files only play the video in the QT X Player and the MOV file container will not even open in the QT X Player.
Basically, if you check the QT X Player web page, you will note that MPEG-1, layer 2 audio is not supported by this player. However, whiile MPEG-1, layer 2 audio is still basically supported by the QT 7 Player, certain audio, video, and file container combinations may be problematic.

  • AVI file with 'MS' Audio will not play audio in Quicktime, tried everything

Hey thanks for reading...I have followed all links to xvid compnents nand have installed various ones etc and have tried different combinations and still no luck.
I can see video fine, but I cannot get audio going, and I think this is why....
    'ms' audio....
I REALLY want to get this playing in QT. I know I can watch it in some OTHER player and get video and audio just fine...
but please if anyone knows how to get this going....
    thanks in advance!

I found this component after doing a web search...
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14633
seems to fix the problem....but I noticed the volume is kind of low when playing this avi file in QT, but when I play it in the Mplayer it sounds a lot louder. And that is with the volume sliders on both QT, and Mplayer maxed out, and using the Macs volume to judge the difference.
    Anyway....
The reason I want to play it in QT is that I can use my remote to pause and rewind and fast forward...

  • I need to output a PAL HDV project from FCP as a PAL DV file with 4 audio t

I need to output a PAL HDV project from FCP as a PAL DV file with 4 audio tracks - specifically one stereo pair to be t1&t3, the other stereo pair to be t2&t4. This is the standard way requested by an international distributor of tv programmes. I understand how to set the sequence in FCP to output 4 audio tracks - either 2 stereo pairs (1&2, + 3&4), or 4 discrete tracks. But how do I then output this as a QT file?
The manual tells me that to export multiple audio tracks, File>Export>QT Movie has it's Config pop-up menu in the Audio Settings area of the General tab of the Sequence Settings. Well, that's set for 4 discrete channels, but the QT export settings only allow for 2 mono or 1 stereo output, and that's what I get when I try it. What it says in the manual just doesn't happen.
Exporting via Compressor, on the other hand, has an abundance of choices of 4-track outputs, none of which are labelled as anything resembling 'discrete'. Would any of those 4.0 settings suffice? Or am I likely to get myself into difficulties further down the line? As I am monitoring for this task on a 2-track audio system, I cannot confirm exactly what I am getting when I use any of those settings.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    John

Call me naive, but I've not heard of splitting the stereo pairs like this before.
What broadcaster? (perhaps one of our EU regulars will drop in...)
You can do all sorts of pairing but it is coincident tracks pairing- eg 1/2 + 3/4
    Sorry I can't offer anything.

  • Export to Quicktime with multiple Audio Tracks?

    Hi all --
I am on a tight deadline (48 hrs!) to deliver a Quicktime Prores file with 6 audio tracks: ch 1+2 dialog, ch 2+3 music&effects, ch 4+5 stereo mix. I'm working with FCP 6.
Now, I have figured out how to export the FCP 6 project to a Quicktime file with multiple audio tracks (in the Project settings, I specify 3 stereo channels, then I assign each audio track to one of the channels and export everything to a Quicktime file).
However, how can I send a stereo mix to channels 4+5?? FCP only allows me to assign each audio track one but not multiple output channels, and I didn't see a way where I could create a bus.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

Something is being miscounted here. You say you have dialog on 1+2 and then say you have M&E on 2+3? I think you meant to say 3+4 and the stereo mix will be on 5+6. The easiest way to do this is to copy tracks 1-4 to tracks 5-8 by shift-option-dragging them there. Holding option will copy the tracks instead of moving them and holding shift will insure that the tracks will not move earlier or later. Then send 5+6 (dialog) to the 5+6 output (using the info in the above referenced discussion) and send 7+8 (music&effects) also to the 5+6 output. Done.
