QT movie flash frame

I'm in 8.5 and am seeing a flash frame (of nothing) when the
frame of my QT movies appears. This doesn't happen if I don't
choose direct to stage, but the video from my movie also doesn't
play (only audio)
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Carrie

This problem is fairly common. The easy solution that usually
works is
to set it up so that when the QT sprite 1st appears, have it
off the
stage for 1 frame. Then, move it into place. The flash will
now happen
when it can not be seen, and the video will appear to start
at the
beginning, since the viewer will only have missed the 1st
1/15th of a
second or so.

  • Flash Frames On Incoming Video

I have the strangest problem with flash frames I've ever seen. Whenever I make a cut at a scene change in my footage I get a flash frame on the incoming cut. I immediately assumed it was a field so I lopped off the first frame and... no luck. I actually have to tim off the first 3 to 4 frames! to rid the cut of the flash.
My sequence of events: I ripped supplied footage from DVD using Handbrake & de-interlacing into an progressive, Mpeg4 file. Then, using Compressor, rendered it into a progressive, ProRes 422 HQ Quicktime. However, the ProRes 422 HQ Quicktime had this bizarre brightness change when I hit play in FCP6. It was annoying so I used compressor again to transcode the ProRes 422 files into progressive H.264 Quicktimes. They seem to play & edit fine... except for this issue. Unfortunately, this issue is a showstopper. There's no way I can continue to edit with this media doing this.
I've searched the forum for similar posts but none of the problems ever seemed solved, and certainly none of the solutions suggested are working for me; I've trashed preferences, trashed rendered files & re-rendered them, etc. I have zoomed in to verify that there are no extraneous frames. Also, if I import the ProRes 422 Quicktimes and edit with them, they don't seem to have this flash frame issue.
Anybody else seen or heard of this issue? Why would an errant field exist across 3-4 frames? Anybody have any suggestions? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Handbrake is the wrong tool for this...MPEG STREAMCLIP or DVDxDV Pro are the better options. I use DVDxDV...REALLY good with non-Hollywood movie type DVDs. Can extract to DV or Uncompressed...whatever you need. MPEG-4 like H.264 isn't meant to be used as an editing codec, it is designed for final delivery. That might be why you are getting the odd flash frames...the way it is compressed.
As for ProRes brightening...that means that your system needs to reduce the quality of the image in order to play it back without dropping frames...that is one symptom. Another is really low quality playback. To see what you really working with it is good to have a capture card and external monitor connected so you can tell what things really look like...as the computer monitors are playing back a low res proxie.

  • Red flash frame

    Hello,
As instructed in this thread, I've started a new thread regarding this problem.
I work as an editor at a channel with Premiere CC 7.2.1 installed as our NLE. We have several 27" iMacs, 21" iMacs and about a dozen MacbookPro's.
We have experienced the red flash frame several times. It has appeared on MXF and ProRes exports. In one case, (using a MacBook Pro) it was generated on a ProRes export, but not on the low res proxy (unsure of format, will update as soon as I know) that is generated when we export to Sienna.
Red frames have also been introduced on MXF exports from iMac's (i7 27"), via ethernet to an Isilon.
I've taken the advice on the previous thread and told an editor to delete her cache and re-export. She did this and the red frames were not on the new export.
However, we have a high turnaround of news and current affairs content where a red frame may not be spotted. This could happen in a SOT or PKG for news. This file with the red frame could be loaded into ENPS and played out live. As the producer will be viewing the proxy in Sienna, they will not see the red frame as it'll only be on the ProRes, which is in a TX server they do not have access too.
The added danger is that if that section of programming is repeated, it will not be TX'd live from in house, it will be TX'd by a third party. Who (I assume) will pick up the red frame and hit us with a fine.
So, Adobe, is there a fix coming? Or is there anything we can do to ensure this does not happen?

To add, the low res proxy is an MPEG movie at 640 x 360, .mov suffix. No red frames appear on this.

  • Flash frame when printing to tape?

Ok, this has never happened to me before, I have an hour long show. The whole project is edited and rendered out in one quicktime movie.
I'm using the final QT movie to edit to tape. At the end of a dissolve I am getting a Flash frame, the funny thing is its only happening on the tape. I have gone through the sequence frame-by-frame and there is no indication of an added frame or
bad edit anywhere. Does anyone know why I would get a Flash frame only when I print to Tape?

are you monitoring on a NTSC monitor or your computer. I've seen this when the flashframe is on a field the computer monitor isn't showing, but the ntsc mon will show it. The other thing is when your deck is brought out of record by hitting stop without rolling enough black prior to stopping this can happen but it sounds like you are seeing this in the sequence somewhere not at the end

  • ITunes movie flashing during playback

Just rented my first movie on iTunes. It was fine for the first 30 mins then paused with no response from my iMac for about a minute, spinning wheel then playback resumed with either green or purple flashes/frames 2 or 3 times a second. Any ideas what I can do? Thanks

Although you don't state the version of iTunes you're using, your description indicates that you are probably encountering the playback issues that some (many?) users have encountered with the 64-bit version of iTunes 12.1. There is an alternative downloader for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the most of these playback issues (the alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer).  The "for older video cards" label appears to be something of a misnomer as some people have reported that this corrects problems found on current / high-spec systems.
Some users have reported that after installing this alternative version it is necessary to adjust the "Play audio using:" selection (normally to "Direct Sound" rather than "Windows Audio Session", though this may vary based on your audio hardware/drivers) in Edit > Preferences > Playback to restore glitch-free audio (one part of the reported symptoms is that the "Direct Sound" choice isn't available, usually in Windows 8).
Another possible remedy relates to a potential clash between the 64-bit version of iTunes 12 and Google Chrome; some users have reported that uninstalling Chrome (not just not having it running) resolves the iTunes playback issues without having to install the alternative version referred to above.
Finally, you may want to think about reverting to iTunes 12.0 - see Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.

  • MPEG Streamclip "Red Flashing Frames"

I am having a problem with mpeg streamclip. I keep getting lots of red flashing frames. These happen when i am playing a dvd or even a .mov footage. I have re-installed also. I am running 10.6.5 on intel chip. Any help would be greatly appreciated or if there is a different forum, please let me know.

I think it's a system glitch because it started happening to me just recently in Final Cut Pro. When I play a clip in the viewer window, it flashes solid red like every half second. There aren't actually any red frames in the clip and once its placed on the timeline it plays fine.
More evidence that it's a glitch is that it'll sometimes go away on its own, sometimes (like now) go away if I pause the clip, go to another program and come back a few seconds later. Other times I have to quit and relaunch Final Cut to solve it.
The only consistent thing I've noticed is that it never happens when I first launch the program. It seems to happen after I've been working in it for at least a few minutes.

  • Flash frames

If I try to export a six minute movie from FCP through export quicktime conversion and choose MP-4, I get 1/24 frame flash frames randomly through the whole movie (random frames flash through the movie). I've tried exporting through different timelines and different, but all the movies do the same thing. Can anyone help me?
    Thank you.

Can you just put the animation into it's own movieClip and
    let it play?

  • White flash frame at chapter start

    Hello,
I have a Mac G5 with FCP HD 5.0.4. It came with iDVD 4.0.1. I wonder if you can help me with my problem.
When I create an iDVD project, I get a brief freeze, then a white flash frame at the start of every chapter (scene selection). Same for "play movie" (the automatic chapter 1).
I found advice online pertaining to the same problem with iMovie and iDVD - so I thought I would give it a shot with FCP. I export my FCP sequence (best quality QT movie) without chapter markers. Then I import the single file into a new FCP project, add chapter markers and export it again - to drop into my iDVD project. But no change. Still the white flash frames.
I have iMovie 4.0.1 - but it only does short movies. My project is about 60 minutes.
Do I need to upgrade to iLIfe, DVD Studio Pro, iMovie HD?
    Thanks,
    Mikado1

    Hi Sue,
    Thanks for this.
Two problems. First, I don't have iMovie HD - I have iMovie 4.0.1.
I tried your idea (with a short clip). I exported QT movie from FCP HD (best quality, no chapters) into iMovie. Then I exported the no chapter QT movie iMovie to desktop. Then I imported the QT movie to an iMovie new project, added chapters and created an iDVD project from iMovie.
Same problem. I never get to the burning stage. The "freeze then flash frame" problem at the beginning of all chapters is in the preview.
My iMovie 4.0.1 doesn't accept my 60m film (too long) - so I'll need another solution anyway.
I tried reinstalling iDVD 4.0.1 - but still the same problem.
At this point I'm willing to upgrade to something else. Sounds like I'm better off with iDVD vs DVD Studio Pro, given my current knowledge. I shouldn't need iMovie HD, if I have FCP HD already?
By the way, the QT movie export of my project plays fine with QT player.
    Thanks so much,
    Mikado1

  • Fcpx with magic bullet green and pink flash frames

Hi I'm using fcpx with magic bullet. all recent updates. an imac 3.4ghz 32gb ram 512ssd drive and 512mb card. I keep getting pink and green flash frames whenever i colour grade in magic bullet.
first 22 secs of project were fine, next day I added to it, flash frames everywhere throughout the entire project. tried everything. is it a bug?
    cheers

This problem is completely averted, for me (and reportedly most others), by exporting using "Send to Compressor" rather than using any FCPX presets. That is, no flashes or green/purple/upside-down frames show up in the final output.
I would hardly have believed that the "engine" used in Compressor is different to FCPX - but that is obviously (simplistically) the case.
This is also some confirmation that the problem is with FCPX - not the plugin.

  • IPhone movies skip frames in iPhoto

iPhone movies skip frames when  imported into iPhoto

When you upgraded to Snow Leopard did you select the option to install the Quicktime 7 Player? If not the start a reinstall, select the Custom install option and install just the Quicktime 7 Player. That will let you play the movies from iPhoto (although it opens and plays outside iPhoto with Quicktime Player.

  • Has anyone solved or worked around the After Effects CC red flash frame glitch?

I can't find any mention on any forums of the After Effects CC red flash frame glitch later than Feb. 2014. I just installed 12.2 (which was my first CC version) on my macpro and started getting the red flash frames randomly, but with increasing frequency, in my projects. I have never had this problem before on any previous computer or version for AE. The forums I've read have referenced ProRes source footage, outputs to ProRes, and lens blur. My project uses all of these things.
If there is a universally accepted solution/work around, I haven't seen it definitively. Do I not use ProRes source footage? Do I not render to ProRes 4444? Do I not use the lens blur effect? Do I give up and go back to CS6?

    Hi Keith,
I have the "same" issue with the red frames in AFX CC
I have seen them first, as I resized a prores4444 HD to a smaller format and saw the redframes in the preview window.
Setup in AFX: I created a comp from the HD Prores4444 footage and put this comp in a comp with resolution of 960x540.
The output format was again prores4444.
I shuttled through the clips in the small comp and I saw the red frames too.
When I switched to the HD comp at the same position everything was fine.
I "solved" the problem by flushing the cache, twice. Because after the first purge I was only able to render the first clip. The second one had the red frame problematic again.
Maybe It has something to do with hardware accelerated layers.
    I'm using a MacPro running OSX 10.8.5 with a Nvidia GTX680.
    Cheers
    Michael

  • How do I get a lip sync flash frame sequence to encode properly

I built a flash frame sequ
ence in Premiere.  It is 2 seconds long with the
first two frame white and the remaining time black
frames. This is repeated for 1 minute.  If I encode it in non-compressed AVI it is correct.  If I use
MPEG2 or H.264 to build a transport stream, I see two white frames
as I would expect, then black frames for the rest of the sequence.  Over 15 seconds, I will start to see three frames, gray, white and gray again.  Eventually, the white or gray frame starts two frames later than it should.  I built this as a 720P/60 sequence with non-drop frame timecode.  I have tried all I frames and the same issue occurs.  The GOP structure does not seem to have an effect.  There is no audio in this stream.  It as if it cannot handle the quick and short transistion from white to black.  There are some advanced settings for MPEG 2 but I cannot see where they are explained in the Premier help document.  I need this stream to measure latency on a piece of video equipment.
    Thanks
    Ralph

    Bill,
Your answer gave me a hint to what was happening.  I'm fairly new to Premier and took for granted that the preset I chose at the begining of the program would carry through to the sequence, wrong!  I found another discussion that talked about resetting the properties of a sequence.  I expanded the project box a little and saw that it said my sequence was 59.94 frame rate not 60.  I followed the instructions on the other discussion.  File, new sequence, general, editing mode, and frame rate.  The frame rate was set to 59.94 not 60.  I reset it to 60, closed all the menues and deleted the original 59.94 sequence.  The new sequence I just created shows a 60 Hz frame rate.  I exported my lip sync project as an MPEG 2 transport stream and it was correct according to our MPEG analyzer.
    Thanks again for the help.

  • Zoom in/out, Move through frame WITHOUT changing the placement/crop size?

How do you actually zoom in and out of a frame, move through it up and down, WITHOUT changing the crop size or placement of the frame?
    Scaling doesn't do it...

I mean I don't want the crop size or dimensions to change but I want to move the frame around within the same crop dimensions. Does that make sense?
While showing the image and wireframe in canvas, I should be able to adjust framing without changing dimensions by shift and dragging up or down, but I'm guessing it doesn't work once I've cropped the image since the dimensions are filled to the edge with black.
How can I accomplish this task. The clip is already in a sequences timeline.
